Eva dos Reis Araújo Barbosa; Maria Geralda Caetano Olhares Revista do Departamento de Educação da Unifesp, 2026, Vol. 14, Issue 1 https://doi.org/10.34024/olhares.2026.v14.22132

چکیده

This article addresses Deaf Literature in relation to Multimodality within the context of Deaf Education, considering the linguistic, cultural, and visual specificities of this population. It investigates how the multimodal resources present in a literary work addressing Deaf-related themes may offer possibilities for reading practices. The study aims to analyze the multimodal resources in the literary work A pílula de Tábata and discuss the possibilities for reading and pedagogical mediation arising from its multimodal organization. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach and documentary research design, based on the analysis of a literary work that combines different semiotic modes and resources, such as drawings, colors, written Portuguese, Libras, and SignWriting. The results demonstrate the presence of resources related to representational, interactive, and compositional meanings, such as narrative and mental processes, offer gaze, framing, and salience. The analysis also highlights the centrality of visuality and the complementary distribution of information among written Portuguese, SignWriting, and other visual elements. It is concluded that the work presents potential for the development of multimodal reading practices and pedagogical mediation in Deaf Education, particularly through the articulation of different modes of linguistic and visual representation. However, these potentialities were not empirically investigated with students, and further research involving reception data and concrete reading situations is therefore needed.

چکیده

The present study addresses the theme of Inclusive Education, ensuring access, permanence, and the development of students with specific educational needs within the school environment, while recognizing their differences and potential. In this context, the role of Multifunctional Resource Rooms and Specialized Educational Assistance (SEA) in supporting students with Giftedness/Talentedness (G/T) is highlighted. The objective is to analyze the importance of resource rooms and specialized educational assistance in the holistic development of students with giftedness/talentedness. The research was carried out through a bibliographic review, based on authors who discuss inclusive education and policies for serving students with G/T, such as Mantoan (2003), Virgolim (2014), Gama (2013), Vieira (2020), Piske (2013), among others, these authors reported legal and pedagogical advances that have paved the way for inclusive education for students with giftedness/talentedness in Brazil. However, challenges related to teacher training, infrastructure, and the implementation of public policies still persist. The inclusion of students with specific educational needs—particularly those with giftedness/talentedness—requires differentiated pedagogical practices, continuous professional development, and the strengthening of specialized support policies to ensure equitable and high-quality education.

Are we in the same boat? Parents' and educators' perspectives on kindergarten transition for children with SEN

Hanan Nabih Radwan; Elizabeth F.S. Hannah Research on Preschool and Primary Education, 2026, Vol. 4, Issue 1, pp. 136-148 https://doi.org/10.55976/rppe.420261600136-148

چکیده

The transition from early childhood education to kindergarten is a critical developmental period for all children, and one that can be particularly demanding for those with special educational needs (SEN). This article presents findings from a mixed methods case study conducted in two private schools in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This study investigates how parental attitudes, teacher preparedness, communication gaps, and structural barriers influence school transitions. Findings reveal a consistent divergence in perspective: parents generally regarded transition difficulties as normal and time-limited, whereas teachers identified sustained, complex challenges related to emotional regulation, large class sizes, limited specialist training, and insufficient information about incoming children. Parental reluctance to accept a formal diagnosis was viewed as a significant barrier in both schools. Given the small and unevenly distributed sample, reported divergences are viewed as illustrative rather than generalisable. The study contributes to a growing body of research evidence on inclusive educational transitions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) context. Its originality lies in comparing perspectives within an under-researched educational and cultural context, revealing differences in how parents and teachers perceive transition difficulties. This context-specific evidence has implications for educational policy and practice.
