Introduction Historical trauma refers to large-scale distressing or life-threatening events experienced collectively by a group with a shared identity, such as ethnicity or nationality, which have intergenerational psychological impacts. Although many Asian American families immigrated to the US as a result of such events, little research has been conducted on Asian American experiences of historical trauma, particularly in terms of how immigrant parents communicate about their past trauma with their children. This study aimed to investigate what adult Asian American children of immigrants learn about their family history and how intergenerational communication about historical trauma takes place in Asian American immigrant families. Methods Twenty Asian American adult children of immigrants completed qualitative interviews about their families' immigration histories and their experiences of intergenerational communication about historical trauma. Interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results Four themes were identified: (1) Family History Related to Historical Trauma, (2) Communication About the Past, (3) Silence About the Past, and (4) Psychological Meaning-Making. Participants reported varied levels of knowledge about family and ethnic group history and varied degrees of engagement in intergenerational communication about historical trauma in their families. While most participants had some knowledge of their families' pre-immigration historical trauma, their family members' willingness to discuss the past ranged widely. Limited communication or silence about historical trauma were common, and participants were often reluctant to ask their relatives about the past due to concern about upsetting them. However, some contexts, such as school assignments related to family history, extended family gatherings, and engaging with relevant media, helped facilitate communication. Discussion This study provides an initial description of how intergenerational communication about historical trauma takes place in Asian American immigrant families. The results are consistent with the small body of previous research on intergenerational communication in Asian American immigrant families and elucidate new aspects and dynamics of this communication. Findings point to the need for further study of the experiences of under-researched Asian American groups and how intergenerational communication about historical trauma can be most beneficial in Asian American immigrant families.

Background: Awareness of youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services (YFSRHS) is an important starting point for enabling young people to identify and seek appropriate sexual and reproductive health information and care. However, awareness of these services may vary across settings, including higher education institutions. Objective: To determine the level of awareness of YFSRHS among undergraduate students at Saint Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), Malimbe Campus. Methods: A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate students at SAUT Malimbe Campus. Data were collected using a structured, self-administered questionnaire. Of 109 questionnaires distributed, 108 completed questionnaires were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize students’ awareness and reported sources of information. Results: Of the 108 respondents, 96 (88.9%) reported having heard of YFSRHS, while 12 (11.1%) had not. Social media was the most frequently reported source of information (44.0%), followed by friends or peers (41.0%) and health facilities (36.0%). University programmes and posters or advertisements were reported less frequently. Conclusion: Most respondents had heard of YFSRHS, with social media and peer networks serving as prominent information channels. Strengthening accurate information through these channels, alongside university-based communication, may help address the awareness gap among students who remain unreached.
Religious education is often expected to promote tolerance, but respect for religious difference does not necessarily ensure accurate understanding of religious others. This study examines how religious education policies in Indonesia and England emphasize different forms of cognitive tolerance. Using qualitative document analysis and comparative policy analysis, the study analyzes selected legal, curricular, and pedagogical documents through four components: Knowledge of Religious Others, Recognition of Internal Diversity, Critical Reflection, and Understanding Commonalities and Differences. Indonesian policy gives greater relative emphasis to understanding commonalities and differences within religion-specific formation, social harmony, and responsible citizenship. English policy gives greater emphasis to critical reflection and knowledge of religious and non-religious worldviews through shared enquiry. Recognition of Internal Diversity appears in similar proportions in both datasets, but it serves different curricular functions. The findings show differently configured pathways toward cognitive tolerance, combining the same cognitive components with different relative emphases and curricular purposes.
Although physical activity enjoyment is associated with athletes’ psychological outcomes, the mechanisms underlying its relationship with mental well-being remain unclear. This study examined the mediating role of loneliness among athletes. A correlational survey design was employed. The participants consisted of 350 athletes selected through criterion sampling, including 178 females (Mage= 20.58 ± 1.99) and 172 males (Mage= 21.91 ± 4.88). Data were collected using the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale–Short Form, and Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. Pearson correlation analysis and PROCESS Macro Model 4 mediation analysis were conducted, and indirect effects were tested using 5,000 bootstrap samples. Physical activity enjoyment was positively associated with mental well-being (r= .586, p< .01) and negatively associated with loneliness (a= −.196, p< .01). Loneliness was negatively associated with mental well-being (b= −.447, p< .01). The mediation analysis revealed a significant indirect effect of physical activity enjoyment on mental well-being through loneliness (indirect effect= .088, 95% CI [.026, .147]). These findings indicate that enjoyment of physical activity contributes to athletes’ mental well-being and that loneliness partially explains this relationship. The results emphasize the importance of considering social connectedness and psychological experiences in understanding athletes’ well-being.
Future orientation is an important developmental aspect for twelfth-grade senior high school students, who must decide on further study or careers after graduation. A preliminary study through interviews with the guidance and counseling teacher and an open-ended questionnaire administered to 50 twelfth-grade students of Sekolah Menengah Islam (SMI) Hidayatullah, Banjar Regency, showed that none of the respondents had clear future goals. This community service activity aimed to provide understanding and initial skills in setting future goals through the “Aku Bisa” (I Can) program, a psychoeducation-based activity consisting of an interactive lecture on goal setting, creating a “my aspirations” mind map, and a short film discussion. The one-day program was attended by 105 twelfth-grade students. Outcomes were evaluated through a pre-test and post-test based on a future orientation scale, observation during the activities, and a participant evaluation sheet. A paired sample t-test showed no significant difference between scores before and after the program (t(95) = 0.245; p = 0.807). Nevertheless, participants were able to write down their aspirations and plan how to achieve them in a mind map, and most participants rated their understanding of the material (78.10% good and very good) and the benefits of the activity (87.62% good and very good) favorably. This program can serve as an initial step in introducing future planning to students; however, longer implementation and follow-up evaluation are needed to detect meaningful changes in future orientation
Bullying is a behavior that can affect students’ sense of safety and comfort in the school environment. This activity aimed to increase elementary school students’ awareness of the forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying through a Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN). The activity was conducted at SD 1 Way Gubak involving fifth- and sixth-grade students. A qualitative descriptive method was applied through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and documentation. The results showed that students were able to recognize bullying, particularly teasing, hitting, and hurting others, although their initial understanding mainly focused on physical actions. Materials presented using simple language and concrete examples helped broaden students’ understanding of bullying and its prevention. The activity also identified bullying experiences related to students’ social and economic conditions.
