Workplace Stress, Mental Health and Job Satisfaction among Entry-Level Managers in India: A Correlational Study

R Senthil Kumar; Saptarshi Sengupta International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR), 2026, Vol. 15, Issue 10, pp. 1722-1728 https://doi.org/10.21275/sr261025120315

چکیده

Entry-level managers are usually promoted for their technical skills and are then expected to meet targets, lead teams and resolve conflicts with little preparation for the role. This study examined the relationship between workplace stress, mental health and job satisfaction among entry-level managers in Indian organizations. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected through an online questionnaire from 47 managers with up to five years of managerial experience across finance, manufacturing, IT/ITES, healthcare and service operations. Most participants reported moderate workplace stress (61.7%), while nearly half (46.8%) reported high job satisfaction. Workplace stress was positively correlated with mental health difficulty (r = .641) and negatively correlated with job satisfaction (r = -.477), and mental health difficulty was negatively correlated with job satisfaction (r = -.536), all at p < .01. Stress explained 41% of the variance in mental health difficulty, and mental health explained 29% of the variance in job satisfaction. When both were considered together, only mental health remained a significant predictor of satisfaction. The findings suggest that the mental health of new managers is central to their job satisfaction and point to the need for training, mentoring and psychological support early in a managerial career.

ANALYSE DIALECTIQUE DE LA FIDELISATION DU PERSONNEL ENSEIGNANT NOUVELLE UNITE NON REMUNERE DANS LES ECOLES PUBLIQUES DU REGIME PROTESTANT EN REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO

Nzuzi Lubadika Lazard Journal of Advance Research in Business Management and Accounting, 2026, Vol. 12, Issue 4, pp. 1-12 https://doi.org/10.61841/nn-bma-12-4-48

چکیده

Our study examines the mechanisms of retention for non-mechanized and unpaid teachers (NU/NP) in public schools or institutions under the Protestant conventionized system, not as an act of volunteerism, but as a dialectical phenomenon shaped by the tension between commitment and constraint. Based on a mixed survey conducted with NU/NP teachers, school principals, and Protestant coordinators, we showed that the permanence of these teachers cannot be explained solely by vocation, nor by the painful coexistence of these two logics. The dialectical thematic analysis of the respondents’ statements reveals pairs of opposing forces: vocation/exploitation, hope/slowness, divine service/survival. Thus, 74.8% of respondents simultaneously express a missionary attachment to the school and a feeling of experienced distributive injustice. This contradiction, far from causing a break, actually drives retention itself: the expectation, Legitimate faith, fear of losing accumulated seniority, but also the lack of job opportunities elsewhere; all prevent people from leaving. On the institutional side, managers maintain this paradox through a multi-valued discourse, mixing structural helplessness with the instrumentalization of faith. The study concludes that keeping NU/NP loyal is dialectical because it doesn’t rely on satisfaction, but on the impossibility of choosing between staying out of conviction and leaving out of dignity. It makes recommendations to the State: increase the number of schools, ensure retirement and mechanization for NU and NP; to the Church, to avoid reassuring NU and NP that their future mechanization is the State’s responsibility through religious discourse and unkept promises.

Professional identity and self-rated caregiving performance among work-integrated childcare trainees and early-career practitioners: an indirect association through work engagement

Chen Chunhua; 何郁達 Frontiers in Psychology, 2026, Vol. 17, pp. 1919887 https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2026.1919887

چکیده

Introduction This study examined associations among professional identity, work engagement, and self-rated caregiving performance among childcare trainees and early-career practitioners in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey included 318 participants recruited through 11 vocational colleges and 50 childcare institutions in Guangdong Province. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling assessed the measurement structure and associations, with bootstrapping and robustness analyses. Results The three-factor model showed good fit (CFI = 0.954, RMSEA = 0.039). Professional identity was positively associated with self-rated caregiving performance (total β = 0.694; direct β = 0.465), including an indirect association through work engagement (β = 0.229, bias-corrected 95% CI [0.128, 0.339]). Findings remained consistent across robustness analyses. Discussion Professional identity and work engagement were associated with more favourable self-appraisals of caregiving performance. The cross-sectional, single-source design precludes causal inference, and self-rated performance should not be equated with observed caregiving quality.

The relationship between perceived AI replacement threat and employment anxiety among English-major undergraduates: the mediating role of career insecurity and the moderating role of career decision-making self-efficacy

Suojun Zhang; 郑海荣 Frontiers in Psychology, 2026, Vol. 17, pp. 1867329 https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2026.1867329

چکیده

Background Concerns over possible employment displacement among undergraduates majoring in English have been raised by the growing use of artificial intelligence in writing, translation, and language services. However, limited research has examined the association between perceived AI replacement threat (PAIRT) and employment anxiety among English-major undergraduates or the roles of career insecurity and career decision-making self-efficacy (CDMSE). Methods This cross-sectional study surveyed 711 Chinese English-major undergraduates recruited through convenience sampling. After controlling for gender and grade level, AMOS and PROCESS Model 7 with 5,000 bootstrap resamples were used to examine the indirect and conditional indirect associations. Results PAIRT was positively associated with both career insecurity and employment anxiety. A significant indirect association between PAIRT and employment anxiety through career insecurity was observed, accounting for 48.29% of the estimated total effect. CDMSE significantly moderated the association between PAIRT and career insecurity, with this positive association becoming weaker at higher levels of CDMSE. The conditional indirect association through career insecurity was smaller at higher levels of CDMSE, and the index of moderated mediation was significant. Sensitivity analyses excluding the career replaceability items from employment anxiety produced substantively consistent results. Discussion These findings extend understanding of employment anxiety among English-major undergraduates in the context of AI.

The mediating role of perceived stress between the job demand-control-support model and occupational fatigue among operating room nurses: a multi-Center cross-sectional study

Wenjing Qian; Liping Wu; Xiaoning Wang Frontiers in Public Health, 2026, Vol. 14, pp. 1947875 https://doi.org/10.3389/fpubh.2026.1947875

چکیده

Objective Operating room nurses work long-term in high-intensity, high-risk environments and suffer from a high prevalence of occupational fatigue, which seriously affects their physical and mental health as well as patient safety. Based on the Job Demand-Control-Support (JDCS) model, this study aimed to examine the mediating role of perceived stress between the dimensions of the JDCS model and occupational fatigue—including acute fatigue, chronic fatigue, and inter-shift recovery—among operating room nurses. Methods This multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted from August to September 2026, enrolling 1,122 operating room nurses from 9 tertiary Grade-A hospitals in eastern, central, and western China. A general information questionnaire, the Occupational Fatigue Exhaustion Recovery Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) were administered. SPSS 25.0 was used for descriptive statistics, difference analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression; AMOS 21.0 was used to construct a structural equation model, and the bias-corrected Bootstrap method was employed to test mediating effects. Results The scores of acute fatigue, chronic fatigue, and inter-shift recovery among operating room nurses were 45.55 ± 18.77, 44.13 ± 17.89, and 56.27 ± 17.83, respectively, indicating an overall moderate level of occupational fatigue. The perceived stress score was 21.01 ± 5.24; job demand was 36.44 ± 4.80; job control was 71.54 ± 18.07; and social support was 24.02 ± 6.61. Hierarchical regression showed that, after controlling for demographic and work characteristics, job demand, job control, and social support remained independent correlates of all three outcomes (acute fatigue model R 2 = 0.460, chronic fatigue R 2 = 0.305, inter-shift recovery R 2 = 0.353). The structural equation model showed that job demand positively predicted perceived stress ( β = 0.182, p < 0.001), while job control ( β = −0.251, p = 0.033) and social support ( β = −0.168, p = 0.040) negatively predicted perceived stress. Perceived stress positively predicted acute fatigue ( β = 0.336, p < 0.001) and chronic fatigue ( β = 0.209, p < 0.001), and negatively predicted inter-shift recovery ( β = −0.134, p = 0.029). Bootstrap tests indicated that perceived stress played a significant partial mediating role between job demand, job control, and social support and the outcomes of acute fatigue, chronic fatigue, and inter-shift recovery, although the indirect effects were small in magnitude (proportion mediated 3.41–17.35%). Conclusion Occupational fatigue among operating room nurses in 9 tertiary Grade-A hospitals is at a moderate level, and inter-shift recovery needs improvement. Perceived stress acted as a mediating variable linking JDCS dimensions to occupational fatigue, although the mediating effects were modest in magnitude. Nursing managers can improve occupational fatigue and recovery among operating room nurses by reducing unreasonable job demands, enhancing job control, strengthening social support, and alleviating perceived stress.

Impact of a Short Online Digital Skills Training Program on the Employability Readiness of Unemployed Graduates in Cebu City, Philippines

Ruben Josol International Journal of Transformative Multidisciplinary Studies, 2026, Vol. 2, Issue 4, pp. 370-381 https://doi.org/10.66074/k1v5x6b3c

چکیده

The increasing demand for digital competencies in the current labor market has intensified concerns regarding the employability of unemployed graduates, particularly in developing economies. This study examined the impact of a short online digital skills training program on the employability readiness of unemployed graduates in Cebu City, Philippines. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed to assess changes in participants' employability readiness following a structured, self-paced online training intervention. The program focused on productivity software, digital communication platforms, and online job-search strategies. Employability readiness was measured using a validated, researcher-developed questionnaire assessing digital literacy, job-application preparedness, digital communication skills, and job-search confidence. The instrument demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency, with an overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.88. Results indicated a statistically significant improvement in participants' employability readiness after completing the intervention (t = 9.87, p < 0.001). Improvements were observed across all measured dimensions, with the greatest increase found in job-search confidence. While the findings suggest that participation in the online training program was associated with improved employability readiness, the absence of a control group limits causal interpretation. Nevertheless, the study highlights the potential of short-duration online digital skills training as a practical and scalable strategy for supporting workforce preparedness among unemployed graduates in developing-country contexts. Future studies employing more rigorous experimental designs are recommended to validate these findings further.
