Effective school leadership is vital to school management, teacher performance, and quality education. This study examined the leadership skills, core behavioral skills, and administrative practices of public secondary school heads in the Schools Division of Cagayan de Oro City during the school year 2025–2026. It assessed key leadership and behavioral competencies and determined their relationships with administrative practices. A descriptive-correlational design was used, with universal sampling of 105 school heads. Data were gathered through a standardized questionnaire anchored on the Results-Based Performance Management System and the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation were used. Findings showed high levels of leadership skills, core behavioral skills, and administrative practices. People development was the strongest leadership dimension, while teamwork and innovation were the most evident core behavioral competencies. Managing school operations and resources, and focusing on teaching and learning, were among the strongest administrative practices. The study found significant positive relationships between leadership skills and administrative practices, and between core behavioral skills and administrative practices. The study concludes that effective school leadership requires a combination of people leadership, professional behavior, instructional leadership, strategic management, and administrative competence. It recommends needs-based leadership development, mentoring and coaching, stronger results-focused practices, ongoing instructional leadership training, stakeholder engagement, reflective practice, and individualized professional development plans to support the continued growth of school heads.
Teachers’ participation in professional development is often high, yet it does not always translate into classroom innovation, a persistent transfer-of-learning gap. This study explores how principals’ assertive communication was associated with teachers’ professional competence development in two junior high schools (one public, one private) in Brebes Regency, Indonesia. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was used: baseline teacher competence was descriptively mapped from the Ruang GTK platform and the Education Report (Rapor Pendidikan), followed by a qualitative phase with 22 purposively selected informants (principals, vice-principals, teachers, students, and parents). Data were gathered through surveys, interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles et al.’s interactive model with triangulation. Baseline data showed high training participation (score 4) but stagnant instructional innovation and classroom management (scores 2–3). Four interactional dimensions of assertive communication emerged: directive transparency, dialogic respect, non-blaming corrective feedback, and facilitative advocacy. These were associated with reduced teacher defensiveness and greater openness to interactive and digital teaching, and varied with institutional readiness. The study frames assertive leadership as a dynamic system of instructional communication rather than a fixed trait. Given its two-school, non-causal design, the findings are context-specific; they suggest that sustaining competence requires structured post-training clinical supervision and a constructive feedback culture.
Abstract This study examines whether and how RME can be performed as an epistemic object to broaden business schools’ education on climate change. The research builds on a qualitative case study involving 10 Finnish business schools. The analysis reveals that RME is performed as both an epistemic object and a boundary object, with different implications for its embeddedness within institutions. Our findings show how accreditations have introduced RME as a boundary object enforcing performativity around sustainability themes yet enabling disciplines to maintain their distinct or limited roles. At the same time, RME is met with both resistance and compliance, depending on how well the object fits with disciplinary boundaries and career trajectories. Lastly, as an epistemic object, RME encourages co‐reflexivity, which is essential for climate‐proofing business schools. We discuss the possibilities of a hybrid orientation of RME as both a boundary object and an epistemic object for enforcing climate‐orientation in management education.
Higher education institutions are expected to continuously evaluate graduate programs to ensure that curricular offerings remain relevant, responsive, and aligned with the evolving demands of professional practice. This study assessed the relevance and applicability of the Master of Arts in Educational Management (MAEM) curriculum of Guagua National Colleges to the current professional work of its graduates and identified areas for curriculum enhancement. Using a quantitative descriptive-comparative research design, data were collected from 33 MAEM graduates through a structured survey questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking were utilized to analyze quantitative data, while thematic analysis was employed to examine graduates' recommendations. Results revealed that most graduates occupy positions closely related to educational leadership and management, with 87.88% indicating that their present work is highly related or related to educational management. The overall relevance and applicability of the curriculum obtained a very high rating (M = 4.69), while the adequacy of competencies developed through the program received a mean rating of 4.67. Human Resource and Organizational Management emerged as the highest-rated competency area (M = 4.76), whereas Problem-Solving and Evidence-Based Decision-Making obtained the lowest mean rating (M = 4.64), though still interpreted as very high. Graduates recommended strengthening content related to digital leadership, educational technology, artificial intelligence, instructional leadership, research utilization, and experiential learning. Based on these findings, a Responsive MAEM Curriculum Enhancement Framework was proposed. The study concludes that the MAEM curriculum remains highly relevant to current professional requirements but should continuously evolve to address emerging educational challenges and technological advancements.
Although professional collaboration among teachers plays a critical role in enhancing school effectiveness and instructional quality, empirical studies that jointly examine the organizational and individual determinants of this collaboration remain limited. This study aimed to identify variables that significantly predict the likelihood of elementary school teachers engaging in professional collaboration. The study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational survey design. The sample consisted of 310 teachers working in elementary schools in the city center of Siirt, selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using the Servant Leadership Scale and the Professional Collaboration subscale. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results showed that school level, participation in professional activities, professional seniority, and principals’ servant leadership behaviors significantly predicted teachers’ likelihood of engaging in professional collaboration. In contrast, gender, marital status, educational status, length of time working with the school principal, and length of service at the school were not significant predictors. Overall, the findings highlight the role of servant leadership.
School heads’ leadership practices, such as how they set direction, support instruction, and build trust, are consistently linked to teachers’ work satisfaction, which in turn shapes motivation, commitment, and retention. The main objective of this study was to determine the School Heads’ Instructional Leadership Practices and Teachers’ Work Satisfaction in selected districts of the Division of Bukidnon during the School Year 2026–2027. Specifically, this aimed to find out the level of respondents’ perception of school heads’ instructional leadership practices; ascertain the level of work satisfaction in terms of the motivator factor; and determine whether a relationship exists between school heads’ instructional leadership practices and teachers’ work satisfaction in terms of the hygiene factor and as well as motivator factor. The study used a descriptive-correlational design and included two hundred five (205) Key Stage 2 teachers selected through universal sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using weighted mean, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. Findings showed that instructional leadership was highly practiced, especially in aligning the school vision. Teachers also reported high job satisfaction in both hygiene and motivator factors. Instructional leadership was positively related to teachers’ work satisfaction. It also significantly predicted work satisfaction, with school vision alignment being the strongest predictor. It is concluded that instructional leadership is most effective when school heads ensure that the school’s mission and academic goals are perfectly aligned with the school-wide program and the current DepEd curriculum standards. School heads should improve teamwork, teaching, resource use, staff training, recognition, and the school environment.
This study identified the competency needs of emerging school leaders in financial management, strategic partnerships, and project implementation as a basis for developing a capability building program. Using a descriptive research design integrated with a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the study involved 68 emerging school leaders, specifically Head Teachers and newly appointed School Heads with zero to three years of leadership experience in a public schools division in Northern Luzon, Philippines. The researchers gathered data using a competency needs assessment survey aligned with the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH). The findings revealed that financial management was identified as a Moderate Training Need, while strategic partnerships and project implementation were identified as Extensive Training Needs. Based on these findings, the STEP UP! (Strengthening and Training Emerging Personnel for Upgraded Performance) Capability-Building Program was developed to address the identified competency gaps. The program subsequently underwent expert validation and pilot implementation. Validation results indicated an overall rating of Very Highly Valid, demonstrating strong alignment with competency needs, professional standards, content requirements, and implementation mechanisms. Evaluation based on Kirkpatrick’s Four-Level Model further showed that the program was highly effective, as participants reported positive reactions, increased knowledge and skills, successful application of learning in the workplace, and perceived improvements in leadership performance and school operations. The study concludes that a needs-based and standards-aligned capability-building program can effectively strengthen the competencies of emerging school leaders and contribute to improved school governance, stakeholder engagement, and project implementation.
This study determined the administrative strategies employed by school leaders in implementing enhanced digital-based literacy instruction in selected public elementary schools in the City of Naga, Cebu (Region VII), and Calubian, Leyte (Region VIII), during School Year 2025–2026. It examined the respondents’ demographic and professional profiles; the level of implementation of digital-based literacy instruction in terms of curriculum integration, technological infrastructure and resources, and teacher pedagogical competence; the administrative strategies employed in resource allocation and maintenance, capacity building and professional development, and instructional supervision and monitoring; and the issues and concerns encountered. The study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational and descriptive-comparative research design. The respondents comprised 110 school heads and teachers from six public elementary schools, consisting of six school heads (5.45%) and 104 teachers (94.55%). Data were gathered using a researcher-made structured questionnaire anchored on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework and the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH). Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation were used for descriptive analysis, while an independent-samples t-test or analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were proposed for examining differences and relationships. The findings revealed that digital-based literacy instruction was implemented to a great extent (overall weighted mean = 3.45, SD = 0.42), while administrative strategies were employed to a great extent (overall weighted mean = 3.51, SD = 0.39). Instructional supervision and monitoring were revealed to be the most frequently implemented administrative strategy, whereas technological infrastructure and resources were revealed to be the area requiring the greatest improvement. A significant positive relationship was revealed between administrative strategies and the level of implementation (r = 0.62, p < 0.001). Limited internet connectivity, insufficient digital equipment, and the need for continuous teacher training were revealed to be the major implementation concerns. These findings suggest the value of an enhanced digital-based literacy instruction framework emphasizing strategic resource allocation, sustained professional development, reliable technological infrastructure, and consistent instructional supervision.
Our study examines the mechanisms of retention for non-mechanized and unpaid teachers (NU/NP) in public schools or institutions under the Protestant conventionized system, not as an act of volunteerism, but as a dialectical phenomenon shaped by the tension between commitment and constraint. Based on a mixed survey conducted with NU/NP teachers, school principals, and Protestant coordinators, we showed that the permanence of these teachers cannot be explained solely by vocation, nor by the painful coexistence of these two logics. The dialectical thematic analysis of the respondents’ statements reveals pairs of opposing forces: vocation/exploitation, hope/slowness, divine service/survival. Thus, 74.8% of respondents simultaneously express a missionary attachment to the school and a feeling of experienced distributive injustice. This contradiction, far from causing a break, actually drives retention itself: the expectation, Legitimate faith, fear of losing accumulated seniority, but also the lack of job opportunities elsewhere; all prevent people from leaving. On the institutional side, managers maintain this paradox through a multi-valued discourse, mixing structural helplessness with the instrumentalization of faith. The study concludes that keeping NU/NP loyal is dialectical because it doesn’t rely on satisfaction, but on the impossibility of choosing between staying out of conviction and leaving out of dignity. It makes recommendations to the State: increase the number of schools, ensure retirement and mechanization for NU and NP; to the Church, to avoid reassuring NU and NP that their future mechanization is the State’s responsibility through religious discourse and unkept promises.
The implementation of the Tilawati method as a method of learning the Qur'an requires the support of an organizational system capable of ensuring effective, efficient, and sustainable learning. However, studies on the relationship between organizational design based on Islamic educational management and the implementation of the Tilawati method are still relatively limited. This study aims to formulate an organizational design based on Islamic educational management that is effective and efficient in supporting the implementation of the Tilawati method by strengthening the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling to improve the quality of Qur'an learning. The study used a qualitative approach with a literature study (library research). Data were obtained from scientific articles, books, proceedings, and various relevant academic sources, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results show that the successful implementation of the Tilawati method is determined not only by the competence of educators and learning methods, but also by organizational governance that is able to systematically integrate the functions of Islamic educational management. This study resulted in the concept of Tilawati Organizational Design Based on Integrative Islamic Educational Management that emphasizes the synergy between planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling in managing Qur'an learning. Thus, organizational design becomes a strategic factor in supporting the continuous improvement of the quality of Qur'an learning.
