Logical-mathematical reasoning is essential for interpreting representations, applying procedures, justifying relationships, and solving problems; however, evidence regarding students’ performance in Ecuadorian school contexts remains limited. The aim of this study was to characterize students’ diagnostic performance in logical-mathematical reasoning and to examine differences in its distribution across the participating educational institutions. A descriptive, exploratory, non-experimental study with a quantitative approach was conducted. A total of 843 third-year upper secondary school students, aged 15 to 17 years, from 21 educational institutions in Chone Canton, Ecuador, participated in the study. Logical-mathematical reasoning was assessed using a five-task diagnostic test, with each task scored from 0 to 4 points and aggregated into an overall score ranging from 0 to 20 points. Of the participants, 76.39% were classified at the low level, 17.08% at the regular level, 5.93% at the good level, and 0.59% at the very good level; no student reached the excellent level. Statistically significant differences were identified among institutions, χ²(60) = 392.62, p_MC = 0.00001, Cramer’s V = 0.394; H(20) = 208.51, p < 0.001, ε² = 0.229. The study provides a multi-institutional baseline of logical-mathematical reasoning in a relatively understudied Ecuadorian context. The findings may support the identification of educational needs and the planning of differentiated support according to students’ initial performance. Because no comparison group or quantitative pretest–posttest measurement was available, it was not possible to evaluate changes in logical-mathematical reasoning or attribute the results to the use of GeoGebra.

Enabling Sensitive Conversations with Consent Boundaries: Moa, a Platform for Discussing PhD Advising Relationships

Jane Im; Kentaro Toyama Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction, 2026, Vol. 10, Issue 6, pp. 1-35 https://doi.org/10.1145/3816927

When an individual is harmed by someone in power, such as a workplace manager, it can help to identify allies—people who would offer advice or supportive action. However, ally discovery is fraught because the very people who might be most relevant—e.g., someone who reports to the same manager—might not be sympathetic and could exacerbate the harm. We examine this problem in the context of PhD students navigating advising challenges and present a social media platform called “Moa” that brings together a number of features for facilitating ally discovery. Moa’s most novel element is an audience selection process that uses what we call consent boundaries , which allow users to flexibly define each post or comment’s audience based on factors such as common social identity or lived experience, all while preserving mutual anonymity. A 3-week field study with 47 real-world users showed that Moa’s features in combination facilitated sensitive conversations about advising, with 7 out of 31 posters (22.6%) using consent boundaries. We discuss both our overall “recipe” for systems for ally discovery and the benefits of a consent-centered approach to design.

The Reversed Turing Test: Measuring Superhuman AI Performance Beyond Imitation

Maikel Leon WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON COMPUTER RESEARCH, 2026, Vol. 14, pp. 617 https://doi.org/10.37394/232018.2026.14.53

For more than seven decades, Alan Turing’s imitation game has shaped how the AI community discusses machine intelligence, although it was never a psychometric instrument. AI systems now outperform humans in strategic games, scientific prediction, and pattern recognition, achievements better described as domain-specific superhuman performance than as general intelligence unless a novelty condition is enforced. This paper argues that imitation-based evaluation is misaligned with such systems and introduces the Reversed Turing Test (RTT), which asks whether a machine can be identified precisely because its performance is measurably superhuman. The test combines a standardized superhuman index (SI), expressed in standard-deviation units relative to a human reference sample, with a panel of judges whose identifications are verified against the performance evidence. The paper provides a formal definition of the RTT, a taxonomy of novelty types with verification methods, a worked example in protein structure prediction, and a pre-registered text-generation study (n = 500; composite SI ≈ 3.2; 90% identification accuracy grounded in stylometric cues), interpreted as superhuman stylometric performance rather than superhuman intelligence. The RTT is compared against established benchmarks, its philosophical limits are stated, and implications for trust, creativity, governance, and evaluation design are discussed.

Intent Hallucination in Large Language Models: A Systematic Review of Instruction Following, Detection, And Mitigation Techniques

Sai Gadhave; Krutika Sonare; Anushka Varpe; Anushka Waghchoure; Aaryan Laygude; Dr. Shital Ghotekar International Journal of Innovative Research in Technology, 2026, Vol. 13, Issue 5 https://doi.org/10.64643/ijirt.208736-459

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated significant capabilities in generating human-like and contextually relevant responses across a wide range of applications. However, their reliability is affected not only by factual hallucinations but also by failures to correctly understand and follow user instructions. This emerging issue, referred to as intent hallucination, occurs when an LLM omits, misinterprets, or fails to satisfy one or more requirements contained in a user's request, even when the generated response may be factually correct.Such failures can reduce the reliability and usefulness of LLM-based systems, particularly in complex tasks involving multiple constraints. This paper proposes a systematic review of existing research on intent hallucination and instructionfollowing capabilities in Large Language Models. The study will examine major types and causes of instructionfollowing failures, existing benchmarks and evaluation techniques, methods for detecting such failures, and approaches proposed to mitigate them. The review will also compare current evaluation frameworks and investigate limitations in existing research, particularly concerning complex, multi-constraint, and dynamic user instructions.Based on the reviewed literature, the study aims to organize existing approaches into a structured taxonomy covering instruction-following failures, detection and evaluation methods, and mitigation strategies. Finally, the paper will highlight open research challenges and future directions for developing more reliable and intent-aligned LLM systems. The study aims to provide a consolidated understanding of intent hallucination and support future research toward more dependable human-AI interaction.
