Teacher Self-Efficacy and Integration of Social-Emotional Learning in the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program: Its Influence on Teacher Effectiveness

Ellen Marie I. Villar; Bernarda R. Villarojo International Journal of Sustainable and Integrated Studies, 2026, Vol. 1, Issue 3, pp. 992-1004 https://doi.org/10.65339/ijsis.v1.i3.241

This study examined teacher self-efficacy, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) integration, and their predictive relationships with teacher effectiveness in the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program in the Tagbilaran City Division, Bohol, Philippines. Anchored in Social Cognitive Theory, the Prosocial Classroom Model, the CASEL SEL Framework, Self-Determination Theory, and Emotional Intelligence Theory, the study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Quantitative respondents comprised 202 ARAL teachers and 23 school heads or designated supervisors from eight public junior high schools. The qualitative phase involved 15 teachers and five supervisory participants. Data were collected using a validated, researcher-developed questionnaire, open-ended questions, and interviews, and analyzed through descriptive statistics, multiple regression, Welch’s t-test, and thematic analysis. Findings revealed high teacher self-efficacy (M = 3.99), SEL integration, and teacher effectiveness. SEL integration significantly and positively predicted content knowledge and pedagogy (R² = .154), assessment and reporting (R² = .520), and learning environment (R² = .537), whereas teacher self-efficacy showed no statistically significant unique contribution after accounting for SEL integration. Teachers’ and supervisors’ assessments showed no significant differences. Challenges included learner disengagement, language barriers, diverse learning needs, inadequate instructional resources, insufficient training, and monitoring difficulties. Professional commitment, instructional adaptability, supportive relationships, and administrative assistance facilitated implementation. The study recommends sustained SEL-focused professional development, differentiated instruction, strengthened supervision, and systematic learner monitoring. It supports Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through inclusive learning recovery, socio-emotional support, and teacher welfare. Its sustainability contribution lies in informing institutional capacity-building, equitable educational opportunities, and continuing professional support for effective ARAL implementation.

Envisioning Norwegian teacher education for public good professionalism: a curriculum policy analysis

Ciara Solheim; Tobias Christoph Werler Nordic Journal of Studies in Educational Policy, 2026, pp. 1-17 https://doi.org/10.1080/20020317.2026.2742560

Teacher education (TE) policy is often caught between preparing teachers as agents of social change and a narrow ‘teacher effectiveness’ paradigm. This article examines this tension in Norway, where egalitarian traditions meet global neoliberal accountability discourses. Analysing the pivotal Norwegian TE curriculum policy document, Stortingsmelding nr. 11 (Minstry of Education and Research, 2008–2009), the study uses the Public Good Professionalism (PGP) framework as an analytical lens to assess the extent to which the policy enables the development of teachers as transformative public good professionals. We employ an AI-assisted deductive content analysis using a multi-coder ensemble of nine GPT-4 assistants configured with diverse parameters (temperature and top_p) to provide a parametric stress-test of the coding scheme. Findings reveal a significant discrepancy between stated social equality goals and substantive content. Capabilities explicitly addressed in policy (e.g. Informed Vision) show high ensemble convergence but are instrumentally reframed, stripped of their transformative potential. Conversely, capabilities essential for social justice (e.g. Social and Collective Struggle) show the lowest convergence, reflecting their marginalization. The study concludes that the policy prioritizes a ‘proficient technician’ over a ‘public good professional’, revealing a fundamental structural barrier to socially just teacher education in Norway.

Bridging the performance gap: the predictive role of leadership support in Tanzanian secondary schools

Joseph Stephen Magani; Alex Ochumbo; Makungu Bulayi Frontiers in Education, 2026, Vol. 11 https://doi.org/10.3389/feduc.2026.1964055

In Tanzania, the persistent challenge of low academic achievement in secondary schools has been linked to underperforming teachers, prompting a need to investigate the organisational factors that predict educator effectiveness. This study examines whether leadership support from heads of schools, particularly decision-making involvement, recognition, role modelling, and managerial support, predicts teachers' work performance. Using an explanatory research design and quantitative approach, data were collected from 380 teachers in Iringa and Njombe regions, with 378 valid responses analysed. Regression analysis using SPSS version 27 assessed the strength and significance of relationships between leadership support and teacher performance. Findings revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between overall leadership support and teacher performance. Among the individual leadership dimensions, involvement in decision-making was the strongest predictor, enhancing teachers' sense of ownership and commitment. Although recognition and role modelling showed positive contributions, they were not individually statistically significant. The study concludes that supportive school leadership is significantly associated with improved teacher performance. It recommends a holistic leadership-support framework, prioritising participatory decision-making, to strengthen teacher effectiveness, classroom productivity, educational outcomes, and overall school effectiveness.
