چکیده

Impairments in emotional regulation and adverse experiences in early childhood are considered key factors in the development of personality disorders. However, existing theoretical approaches remain fragmented, failing to provide an interdisciplinary synthesis of the neurobiological, psychological, and interpersonal mechanisms within a single explanatory framework. This study aimed to reveal the relationship between deficits in affective regulation and early traumatisation as mutually reinforcing factors in the development of personality pathology, substantiating this relationship at multiple levels. This narrative review with elements of conceptual synthesis is based on 41 sources from PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar covering the period from 2020 to 2025. These sources include meta-analyses, longitudinal cohort studies, randomised controlled trials, and qualitative investigations from Kosovo, Norway, Lebanon, Canada, and other countries. According to the analysed studies, borderline personality disorder is characterised by limbic hyperreactivity associated with emotional abuse, with an odds ratio=11.02; conversely, antisocial personality disorder is characterised by prefrontal hypoactivation and a blunted cortisol response. The reviewed sources indicate that epigenetic modifications of the FK506 binding protein 5 (FKBP5) gene and accelerated biological ageing according to the GrimAge clock (β=0.12; p=0.03) constitute components of a cascading molecular mechanism linking early trauma with neurostructural changes. The literature analysis showed that emotional dysregulation forms a continuum ranging from affective overreactivity (cluster B) and overcontrol (cluster C) to incongruence (cluster A). Mentalisation deficits, self-compassion, and social support were described as mediators of the ‘trauma-personality pathology’ relationship. According to the results of meta-analyses, trauma-informed dialectical behaviour therapy reduces symptoms of borderline personality disorder with an effect size of g=-0.82. Group schema therapy demonstrates an effect size of g=0.859, and eye movement desensitisation shows d=0.65 for psychological symptoms. The four-level substantiation – carried out at molecular-neurobiological, developmental-interpersonal, psychological, and clinical-phenomenological levels – reveals the basis for a stratified approach.

The Relationship between Gadget Addiction Level and Tantrum Behavior in Children Aged 4-6 Years

Lutfia Habibah; Ni Ketut Somoyani; Asep Arifin Senjaya Journal of Multidisciplinary Science MIKAILALSYS, 2026, Vol. 4, Issue 3, pp. 8922-8935 https://doi.org/10.58578/mikailalsys.v4i3.12498

چکیده

Early childhood is a critical period for emotional development and behavioral regulation. Increasing digital device use among young children has raised concerns about its association with tantrum behavior, although research examining addiction-related use rather than screen duration alone remains limited. This study aimed to examine the relationship between gadget addiction levels and tantrum behavior among children aged 4–6 years at Widya Santhi Buana Kindergarten, West Denpasar District. A quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 45 parents or guardians recruited through total sampling. Data were collected on April 15, 2026, through online questionnaires administered using Google Forms. The instruments comprised an adapted Digital Addiction Scale for Children with 25 items, which demonstrated high internal consistency during pilot testing (Cronbach’s α = .977), and the 31-item Rating Scale of Angry Emotional Behavior and Temper Tantrum. Univariate analysis summarized the distributions of gadget addiction levels and tantrum behavior, while Spearman’s rank correlation assessed their relationship. The results showed that 48.9% of children were classified as having moderate gadget addiction levels. Regarding tantrum behavior, 53.3% were classified as exhibiting no tantrum behavior, whereas 22.2% were classified as exhibiting severe tantrum behavior. A strong, positive, and statistically significant correlation was identified between gadget addiction levels and tantrum behavior (ρ = .641, p < .001). Higher parent-reported gadget addiction levels were therefore associated with greater tantrum severity within the participating group. The cross-sectional design and reliance on parent-reported measures limit causal interpretation. These findings may inform parent education concerning supervised device use and consistent family rules. Further research should include larger samples, examine parenting styles and other relevant factors, and use longitudinal designs to clarify the direction of the relationship.

Virtual reality social exposure for social anxiety in bullying victims

Baiq Ade Winanda Agustia Ayu; Sofa Amalia; Miqdad Daly Ahmad; Rachmatul Az-Zahra Ayu Pramutri Cognicia, 2026, Vol. 14, Issue 2, pp. 120-129 https://doi.org/10.22219/cognicia.v14i2.46792

چکیده

Experiences of bullying can have significant psychological consequences, including an increased risk of social anxiety. This study aimed to examine changes in social anxiety following Virtual Reality Social Exposure (VRSE) among bullying victims. A one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group was employed with 12 participants. The intervention consisted of three gradual exposure sessions in virtual environments representing social situations. Social anxiety was measured before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results indicated a statistically significant decrease in social anxiety scores following the intervention (p = 0.002), with a reported effect size of 0.974. These findings suggest that VRSE may be a promising approach for reducing social anxiety among bullying victims. However, the absence of a control group and the small sample size limit conclusions regarding its effectiveness and safety. Further studies with larger samples, control groups, and systematic safety assessments are needed.

Spiritual Well-Being as Mediator Between Mindfulness and Emotional Dysregulation

Smara Khalid; Kashifa Yasmeen International Journal of Emerging Multidisciplinaries Social Science, 2026, Vol. 5, Issue 6, pp. 139-168 https://doi.org/10.54938/ijemd-ss.2026.05.6.892

چکیده

The present study investigated the mediating effect of spiritual wellbeing on the relationship between mindfulness and emotion dysregulation among young adults. The sample N=200 were selected for the present research. A cross-sectional correlational research design was used for the present study. Through the convenience sampling technique, data were gathered by using the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) by Baer et al. (2006), the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) by Paloutzian and Ellison (1982) Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) by Gratz and Roemer (2004). According to the results, spiritual well-being is positively correlated with mindfulness and its dimensions (observing, describing, acting with awareness, non-judging, non-reactivity). Emotional dysregulation is negatively linked to mindfulness. Mediation analysis showed a significant prediction by mindfulness of spiritual well-being and emotional dysregulation. It was also found that spiritual well-being predicts emotional dysregulation. In addition, spiritual well-being was found to be a mediating factor through which emotional dysregulation and mindfulness are linked. According to the study, interventions aimed at enhancing emotional resilience and well-being in people will be of interest for the mental health section.

A Comparative Study of VR Therapy and Traditional Methods for Stress Management

Anshika Verma; Mrs. Divya singh International Journal of Research Publication and Reviews, 2026 https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23830848

چکیده

Stress arising from academic, professional and financial demands is common among students and young professionals, and the coping methods within easiest reach, such as listening to music, do not always suffice. This paper presents a survey-driven design for a virtual reality (VR) gadget that combines selectable immersive natural environments, environment-matched sound therapy and heart-rate biofeedback for short relaxation sessions. An online questionnaire completed by 24 respondents, mostly college students, supplies the user requirements. Among those who answer the relevant items, 65.2% report daily stress, 73.9% name academic or job pressure as the main cause, and 47.8% state that a busy schedule prevents regular yoga or meditation. Music is the most common coping method (63.6%). Asked about a 10–15 minute VR relaxation session described as free of side effects, 83.3% answer “yes, definitely” and 8.3% answer “maybe” if the price is under Rs. 5000. The findings yield design requirements, a system architecture, a session workflow and a protocol for comparing the gadget with guided breathing, meditation and relaxing music. That comparison is planned, not yet carried out: the prototype has not been tested with users, and the paper makes no claim of clinical effectiveness.

Heterogeneity and Dynamics of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Rural Boarding Adolescents

Yuetan Wang; Jingjing Bai; Yan Zhang; Yiheng Li; Xiaobin Ding Psychology Research and Behavior Management, 2026, Vol. Volume 19, pp. 1-14 https://doi.org/10.2147/prbm.s621051

چکیده

Background and Purpose: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a global concern in adolescent mental health. Rural boarding middle school students, as a unique and vulnerable population, remain understudied regarding the potential heterogeneity and longitudinal trajectories of NSSI. This study aimed to identify latent classes of NSSI among this group, examine their transition patterns over time, and evaluate the effectiveness of an emotion management group intervention. Methods: Study 1 cross-sectionally surveyed 927 adolescents; we split samples into non-NSSI and NSSI subgroups and ran latent profile analysis (LPA) only among participants with NSSI ( n =285). Study 2 conducted a 6-month follow-up of 550 participants and applied latent transition analysis (LTA) to examine class shifts and predictive factors. Study 3 was a randomized controlled trial in which 30 students from the High-NSSI received an 8-week emotion-management group intervention. Intervention effects were evaluated using repeated-measures ANCOVA with demographic covariates. Results: Within the NSSI subgroup ( n = 285), two classes were identified: a High-NSSI class ( n = 21, 7.4%) and a Low-NSSI class ( n = 264, 92.6%). Poor sleep quality and bullying victimization independently predicted High-NSSI membership. Longitudinal analysis revealed high stability in the Low-NSSI class (91%) and high fluidity in the High-NSSI class (83% transitioning to low-risk). The emotion-management intervention significantly reduced both NSSI frequency and negative affect. Discussion: These findings demonstrate that clinically meaningful NSSI subtypes exist among rural boarding adolescents and that sleep quality and bullying are key modifiable risk factors. The results support a stepped-care approach in school settings, where the High-NSSI class requires intensive intervention and the Low-NSSI class may benefit from less intensive, universal supports. The emotion-management group intervention is an effective school-based program for the most severe NSSI subtype.
