Purpose: The present study aimed to examine the associations between anthropometric indexes derived from body measurements and body satisfaction. Methods: The study included voluntary female aged 19–64 years. The face-to-face questionnaire included questions on participants’ sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, educational level, marital status, employment status, and socioeconomic status), the Body Image Scale (BIS), and the Body Appreciation Scale (BAS). Anthropometric measurements were obtained by trained researchers in accordance with standardized procedures. Using measurements, anthropometric ratios and indices—waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), body mass index (BMI), conicity index (CI), body shape index (BSI), abdominal volume index (AVI), and body adiposity index (BAI)—were calculated. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0.Results: A total of 1.291 female participated in the study, with a mean age of 36.8 ± 12.7 years. Scale scores varied significantly across participants’ sociodemographic characteristics (p

Body dissatisfaction is common, particularly among those with higher BMIs. Issues with BMI as an adiposity measure may limit our understanding of how body weight is associated with body dissatisfaction, particularly given gendered body ideals. We investigated the association of childhood trajectories of BMI, fat mass index (FMI), and fat-free mass index (FFMI) with body dissatisfaction at age 14, and sex differences in these associations. This was a secondary analysis of UK Millennium Cohort Study data. Our exposures were trajectories of BMI (3−14 years), FMI and FFMI (7−14 years), modelled using latent class growth analysis. Our outcome was body dissatisfaction at 14 years. We used univariable and multivariable linear regression models to investigate associations and interaction terms to test for sex differences. Among 13,025 participants (49.2% female; 84.4% White), we found three BMI, FMI, and FFMI trajectories (low, moderate, high). Participants with moderate (adjusted mean difference [aMD] 0.32, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.24, 0.39) and high (aMD 0.71, 95% CI 0.55, 0.86) BMI trajectories and those with moderate (aMD 0.33, 95% CI 0.25, 0.41) and high (aMD 0.73, 95% CI 0.57, 0.89) FMI trajectories had higher body dissatisfaction scores than those with low trajectories. We did not find evidence that these associations differed by sex. For FFMI trajectories, boys with high (aMD 0.31, 95% CI 0.17, 0.46), but not moderate (aMD 0.07, 95% CI −0.03, 0.17) trajectories had greater body dissatisfaction. In girls, mean differences by FFMI trajectory were consistent with adiposity results. BMI and FMI trajectories are similarly associated with body dissatisfaction when FMI is estimated using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Both boys and girls may be susceptible to weight-related body dissatisfaction in adolescence. Further research is needed to understand how muscularity is associated with body dissatisfaction.

Background: Body mass index (BMI) is a widely used surrogate marker of nutritional and adiposity status. Handgrip strength (HGS), measured conveniently with a hand-held dynamometer, is a simple, inexpensive and reproducible indicator of overall muscular strength and general health, while blood pressure (BP) indices reflect early cardiovascular risk. Young adulthood is a formative period during which unfavourable trends in body composition and blood pressure often begin, yet region-specific data from Jharkhand remain limited. The objective is to assess the correlation of BMI with handgrip strength and blood pressure indices, and to identify associated risk factors among young adults attending a tertiary care centre of Jharkhand. Materials and Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 114 young adults aged 18–25 years, selected by consecutive sampling. Anthropometric measurements, handgrip strength (Jamar hand-held dynamometer) and blood pressure (digital sphygmomanometer) were recorded using a pre-tested proforma. Data were analysed using SPSS version 26.0, applying Pearson's correlation, Chi-square test and odds ratio with 95% confidence interval; p<0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results: The mean BMI of participants was 23.6 ± 3.4 kg/m². A statistically significant negative correlation was observed between BMI and handgrip strength (r = -0.42, p<0.001), while BMI showed a significant positive correlation with systolic (r = 0.38, p<0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (r = 0.31, p=0.001). Overweight/obese participants had significantly higher odds of low handgrip strength (OR=2.86, 95% CI 1.32–6.19) and pre-hypertension/hypertension (OR=3.41, 95% CI 1.54–7.55) compared to those with normal BMI. Sedentary lifestyle, positive family history and excess dietary salt intake emerged as important associated risk factors. Conclusion: Rising BMI among young adults is associated with declining handgrip strength and rising blood pressure. Early identification of high-risk individuals through simple bedside tools such as BMI and handgrip dynamometry can help in timely lifestyle intervention and prevention of future cardiometabolic morbidity.
