Humanistic–Religious Education in Indonesian Primary Schools: A Systematic Review Protocol and Preliminary Evidence Synthesis for Joint Cooperation Schools (SPK)

Muhammad Burhanul Asfia; Siswantoyo; Ali Muhtadi Journal of General Education and Humanities, 2026, Vol. 5, Issue 5 https://doi.org/10.58421/gehu.v5i5.2169

Humanistic–religious education integrates spiritual values, social relationships, and character development in primary education. However, its conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, and outcome evidence remain inconsistently documented, particularly in Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama (SPK) schools. This study presents a systematic review protocol with preliminary synthesis to examine conceptualisation, implementation practices, potential best practices, and contextual conditions. The planned review covers publications from 2014 to 2026 across Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and Indonesian academic sources. The preliminary corpus comprises ten studies identified through targeted searches, including qualitative case studies, quantitative and mixed-methods research, and conceptual analysis. Formal database searching, PRISMA screening, and critical appraisal remain incomplete. Preliminary patterns indicate that vertical–spiritual and horizontal–social dimensions predominate, while habituation and school culture feature prominently in implementation. Explicit curriculum mapping and family–community engagement are less consistently documented, and comparable pupil-outcome evidence remains limited. Evidence concerning SPK schools is particularly sparse, precluding definitive best-practice claims. A proposed four-layer framework may guide further synthesis of conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, outcomes, and contextual conditions. These preliminary observations require verification through completion of the systematic review before supporting evidence-based recommendations.

Principal leadership strategies for cultivating teachers’ professional care in Indonesian primary schools: A multiple-case study

Y-H. Yunnani H.; Akhmad Habibi; Y. Yantoro Research and Development in Education (RaDEn), 2026, Vol. 6, Issue 2, pp. 682-698 https://doi.org/10.22219/raden.v6i2.46187

Background—Teacher professional care in this study is defined as the integration of functional responsibility (e.g., preparation, punctuality, and completion of assigned duties) with relational and ethical responsiveness to pupils and colleagues. Although principal leadership is widely associated with teacher performance and school climate, less is known about how connected leadership processes cultivate this broader form of care across primary-school contexts. Objectives—This study examined how principals plan, enact, evaluate, and refine leadership strategies intended to strengthen teachers’ professional care. Methods—A qualitative multiple-case study was conducted from May to August 2026 in five public primary schools in Muaro Jambi, Indonesia. Ten participants—five principals and five teachers—were purposively selected. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and school documents and analysed through a mixed deductive–inductive thematic procedure combining within-case analysis and cross-case comparison. Informant bias was mitigated by seeking concrete incident-based accounts, comparing principal and teacher perspectives, checking interview summaries with participants, and requiring major interpretations to be supported by more than one source or method. Results—Across cases, professional care was strongest where principals combined clear expectations with credible modelling, developmental supervision, psychologically safe two-way communication, continuous professional learning, and distributed participation. Evaluation functioned not merely as control but as reflective follow-up that linked observed practice to differentiated support. Conclusion—The findings suggest that leadership enables professional care through a recursive organisational process in which accountability, relational trust, professional learning, and shared responsibility reinforce one another.
