Correlates of Teachers’ Core Behavioral Competencies, Performance, and Students’ Learning Achievement in MAPEH

Dave J. Trases International Journal of Sustainable and Integrated Studies, 2026, Vol. 1, Issue 3, pp. 1005-1011 https://doi.org/10.65339/ijsis.v1.i3.242

چکیده

This study examined the relationships among teachers’ core behavioral competencies, professional performance, and students’ learning achievement in Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) in the Department of Education Districts of Ilog I and II, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 38 MAPEH teachers and 190 students from ten public secondary schools, selected through total enumeration and proportional sampling, respectively. Data were gathered using a standardized questionnaire based on DepEd Order No. 2, s. 2015, teachers’ Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) ratings, students’ academic records, and supplementary key informant interviews. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis were employed. Findings revealed very high competencies in self-management (M = 3.826) and professionalism and ethics (M = 3.736), while result focus, teamwork, service orientation, and innovation were rated high. Teachers demonstrated very satisfactory professional performance (M = 3.557), whereas students achieved satisfactory academic performance in MAPEH (M = 84.142). Significant positive relationships were reported between result focus and teachers’ performance (r = .869, p = .028), innovation and students’ learning achievement (r = .797, p = .043), and teachers’ performance and students’ learning achievement (r = .797, p = .043). The findings highlighted the relevance of result-oriented practices, instructional innovation, and professional competence in supporting educational outcomes. Continuous professional development and a one-year competency enhancement plan were recommended to strengthen teaching effectiveness and student achievement. The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by emphasizing teacher development and improved learning outcomes. Its contribution to educational and institutional sustainability lies in supporting continuous professional improvement, instructional innovation, and sustained educational quality in public secondary schools.

Study Habits, Learning Styles and Performance in Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) among Junior High School Learners

Darwina B. Castillo; Gail G. Gumilet International Journal of Global Goals and Sustainable Development, 2026, Vol. 1, Issue 1, pp. 40-50 https://doi.org/10.65339/ijggsd.v1.i1.6

چکیده

This study examined the relationships among study habits, learning-style preferences, and academic performance in Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) among Grade 10 learners of Solano High School, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines, during School Year 2025–2026. Anchored in Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory and Biggs' Presage–Process–Product Model, the study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design involving 300 learners selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using an expert-validated, researcher-made questionnaire and official first-quarter MAPEH grades, with descriptive statistics and Pearson's product-moment correlation used for analysis. Findings revealed high levels of study habits (M = 3.01) and learning-style preferences (M = 3.06), with concentration and interest emerging as the strongest study-habit dimension and tactile learning as the most preferred modality. Academic performance yielded a mean grade of 86.58, with most respondents attaining outstanding or very satisfactory ratings. A significant moderate positive relationship was established between study habits and learning styles (r = 0.635, p < 0.001). However, study habits (r = 0.277, p < 0.001) and learning styles (r = 0.135, p = 0.019) demonstrated statistically significant but negligible positive relationships with academic performance. Visual and auditory preferences showed significant positive correlations with academic achievement, whereas tactile and kinesthetic preferences showed no significant relationships. The study concludes that study habits and learning preferences have limited associations with MAPEH performance, highlighting the need for improved study routines, diverse instructional strategies, and further investigation of other contributing factors. The research supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and indirectly contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being). Its potential sustainability impact lies in strengthening educational practices, supporting evidence-based instructional improvement, and promoting long-term educational and institutional development.
