Margaretha Karolina Sagala; Afif Rahman Riyanda; Daniel Rinaldi; Ghea Chandra Surawan Journal of Hypermedia & Technology-Enhanced Learning (J-HyTEL), 2026, Vol. 4, Issue 3, pp. 246-259 https://doi.org/10.58536/j-hytel.263

Student diversity poses a continuing challenge in higher education, particularly when common learning objectives must be maintained while providing flexibility in learning resources, activities, interaction, support, and assessment. This study examined students’ perceptions and acceptance of digitally supported differentiated learning in Information Technology Education. A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted with 35 students at Universitas Lampung, Indonesia, after the learning experience. Data were collected using a 31-item questionnaire rated on a four-point Likert scale, with reported high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.985), and were analyzed using means, standard deviations, and normalized mean scores. Students rated the five implementation dimensions favorably (M = 3.28, 81.88%). Digital pedagogical design received the highest rating (M = 3.34, 83.45%), whereas product and assessment differentiation received the lowest (M = 3.18, 79.57%). Technology-supported collaboration was the highest-rated individual item (M = 3.49, 87.14%), whereas choices in presentation formats and the timeliness of digital feedback received lower ratings. The secondary acceptance summary was similarly favorable (M = 3.31, 82.74%), with increased learning motivation receiving the highest rating. These findings identify digital support and collaboration as perceived strengths of the learning design, while flexibility in student products and the timeliness of feedback warrant further attention. Given the single-cohort, post-only design and absence of objective learning-outcome measures, the findings should be interpreted as context-specific evidence of students’ perceptions of implementation rather than evidence of causal effects on learning.

Flipped classroom and technology-enhanced learning in dermatology education: evidence, implementation, and future directions

Meng Zhang; Ruiqi Chu; Shengni Zhang; Xing Li; Xiangxiang Ren Frontiers in Medicine, 2026, Vol. 13 https://doi.org/10.3389/fmed.2026.1955942

Dermatology education faces limited curriculum time, a visually demanding specialty, and the need to develop both clinical reasoning and procedural competence. The flipped classroom (FC) delivers didactic content before class and reserves class time for active learning. This mini review synthesizes evidence on FC in dermatology education, distinguishes true FC from broader blended or active-learning approaches, and examines how newer image-based technologies such as teledermatology, gamified education, and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted tools can complement FC. PubMed, Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar were searched through August 2026 for studies on FC, blended learning, or technology-enhanced learning in dermatology. Across the reviewed studies, FC and closely related blended approaches were associated with short-term gains in knowledge and satisfaction relative to traditional teaching, with particular promise when combined with case-based or problem-based learning. COVID-19 accelerated adoption and demonstrated adaptability to remote formats. However, most dermatology studies are single-institution, quasi-experimental, small, and short-term, and only two dermatology-specific studies used randomized designs. Evidence on long-term retention, patient-related outcomes, and clinical competence remains lacking, and gains in satisfaction or confidence should not be equated with objective gains in knowledge or skills. Based on the currently limited evidence, FC appears at least comparable to, and sometimes better than, traditional teaching for short-term knowledge and skills. Educators can reasonably adopt FC as part of blended curricula, while researchers should prioritize multicenter randomized trials with standardized objective outcomes, longer follow-up, and patient-level endpoints.

Assessing technology and engineering learning outcomes of pre-service preschool teachers through epistemic networks of DSRP systems thinking

Brina Kurent; Stanislav Avsec Frontiers in Education, 2026, Vol. 11 https://doi.org/10.3389/feduc.2026.1931621

As technology-enhanced learning environments increasingly promote active and situated engagement, assessment must move beyond isolated tests of knowledge and skills to capture learners' performance in authentic contexts. In technology and engineering education, systems thinking is often embedded in product-based learning, yet technical product quality alone may not show how pre-service preschool teachers organise, connect, and justify systems-related ideas. The aim of this study was to examine systems-oriented reasoning as part of complex technology and engineering learning outcomes by combining the Distinctions, Systems, Relationships, and Perspectives (DSRP) framework with Epistemic Network Analysis (ENA). Students' written reflections on the “Product as a System” were coded across the four DSRP dimensions and re-encoded as binary indicators of DSRP achievement levels for ENA. Using ENA, we identified differences in the prominence and co-occurrence of DSRP-related reasoning elements between students taught through the technology-enhanced systems-thinking approach (STICT) and those taught through a traditional approach. The findings revealed distinguishable DSRP epistemic network structures between the two groups, with the STICT group displaying a more heterogeneous structure and the traditional group showing a more concentrated network around system organisation, functional relationships, and multiple perspectives. The ENA indicators were more clearly associated with written report quality than with technical product quality. This study contributes to the assessment of systems-oriented reasoning. It suggests that integrating DSRP-based coding and ENA provides complementary evidence about systems-oriented reasoning beyond that captured by product quality alone, thereby contributing to a broader assessment of technology and engineering learning outcomes in authentic higher education assessment tasks.
