This study aims to analyze the effect of using gamification-based Quizizz as a digital assessment on the learning motivation and engagement of grade X Building Construction and Housing Engineering students in the Basic Building Construction and Housing Engineering course at SMKN 3 Surabaya. This research examines how Quizizz assessments integrated with gamification influence motivation and learning engagement among 10th-grade students majoring in Building and Housing Construction Engineering in the Basic of Building and Housing Construction Engineering course at SMKN 3 Surabaya. A quantitative experiment was conducted using a single-group pretest–posttest design, and all 33 students in the population participated through total sampling. Data were collected via a Likert scale questionnaire and observation sheets, then analyzed using the paired t-test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, effect size calculations, and N-Gain. The research findings indicate that Quizizz combined with gamification did not result in a significant change in students’ learning motivation (Sig. = 0.769 > 0.05; effect size = 0.05), but it significantly increased learning engagement (Sig. = 0.027 < 0.05; effect size = 0.384). Observational data support this, showing an engagement rate of 86.67% (classified as very high). Therefore, Quizizz-based gamification appears to be more suitable for enhancing engagement than motivation in technical vocational subjects. Gamification-based Quizizz has proven to be more effective in enhancing learning engagement than learning motivation in technical vocational subjects. Teachers are advised to combine Quizizz with additional strategies, such as linking the material to real-world construction work contexts, in order to foster students’ learning motivation more comprehensively.
Final-year engineering students frequently face severe psychological stress driven by demanding capstone projects and rigorous accreditation standards. This research proposes a novel decision-support framework to objectively evaluate, categorize, and systematically manage academic stress among engineering undergraduates. By integrating automated non-parametric machine learning with a multi-criteria network decision model, the research bridges diagnostic psychological profiling and strategic institutional intervention. Data were gathered from six hundred eleven final-year students across four engineering departments using a validated psychometric questionnaire. The automated classification engine utilizes a nearest-neighbor algorithm based on spatial Euclidean proximity to categorize individual distress severity into depression, anxiety, and stress levels without relying on rigid parametric assumptions. Subsequently, a strategic situational assessment and a multi-perspective personal performance framework were established to translate abstract psychological findings into measurable indicators. Clinical experts and academic domain specialists evaluated these indicators using an analytical network process, incorporating complex interdependencies and feedback loops to compute steady-state priority weights. Empirical results revealed that over ninety percent of respondents experienced at least moderate psychological distress. Crucially, the mathematical prioritization demonstrated that the financial perspective holds the paramount priority weight, followed by internal cognitive resilience, continuous knowledge acquisition, and external social relationships. This proves that financial stability serves as a foundational prerequisite for academic recovery and intellectual execution. The primary contribution of this research lies in converting static psychometric evaluations into a dynamic, clinically validated decision-support tool. Higher education institutions and academic counselors can implement this prioritized framework to allocate institutional resources effectively, design targeted financial relief initiatives, and optimize student well-being alongside academic excellence.
This study aims to examine the relationship between critical thinking dispositions and barriers to critical thinking of engineering students. The study is a correlational research. The population of the study includes all the students at the faculties of engineering in universities in Turkey and the sampling consists of 628 students from five different universities; Bartın, Karabük, Bozok, Bayburt and Süleyman Demirel. Convenience sampling was used to select the respondents. Two data collection tools were used in the study. The first one is the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale (CTD) and the second one is the Critical Thinking Barriers (CTB) scale. The collected data were analysed using SPSS 24 statistical analysis programme. The mean values were compared in terms of gender, grade, university and department. The critical thinking disposition scores of the students are high, whereas the scores of barriers to critical thinking are low. The mean scores in the Critical Thinking Barriers scale significantly differ in terms of gender and grade but not university and department. Also, critical thinking dispositions of students differ significantly with respect to universities but not gender, grade and department. Finally, a moderate, negative correlation (-0.54) is observed between CTB and CTD scores

Introduction Although instruments exist to assess complex thinking in college students, their application has limitations in specific disciplinary contexts, and no validated measure is available specifically to assess this construct in the research training of Peruvian engineering students. This study aimed to develop and validate the Complex Thinking Scale for Scientific Research (CTS-SR) among Peruvian engineering students. Methods An instrumental study was conducted with 506 university students divided into non-overlapping exploratory ( n = 250) and confirmatory ( n = 256) subsamples. The scale was initially developed from a five-dimensional theoretical framework comprising problemsolving, critical analysis, metacognition, systems analysis, and creativity. Results Exploratory analyses indicated that the initial dimensions converged empirically into two broader, interrelated domains: criticalstrategic reasoning and metacognitive self-regulation with systemic understanding. The final two-factor model comprised 23 items and showed adequate fit in the confirmatory sample (CFI = 0.964; RMSEA = 0.059) and high internal consistency ( ω = 0.944). Complex thinking was positively associated with satisfaction with studies and positive stress and showed a weak negative association with negative stress. Discussion The CTS-SR-23 provides preliminary, context-specific psychometric evidence for assessing complex thinking in scientific research among Peruvian engineering students. Because the final model involved additional item refinement within the CFA subsample, the 23-item version has not yet been independently cross-validated. Further validation using the unchanged CTS-SR-23 in independent samples and across academic disciplines and cultural contexts is warranted.
Individual learning styles are varying according to the tendency of each individual. An appropriate learning style could help students to achieve good academic record in any subject they learned. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between student achievement and learning style for technical and non technical subject. A total of 288 Diploma student enrolled in Electrical Engineering program participated in this study. Solomon Felder Learning Style Index was distributed to the participants and the Felder and Silverman model was used to interpret the data. Result showed that the electrical engineering students have an active type of learning style for the first dimension, the sensing for the second dimension, visual for the third dimension, and sequence for the fourth dimension. The result showed that there is no significant relationship between the dimensions of learning styles and academic achievement for Electrical Technology subject and only the second dimension has a significant relationship with academic achievement of the Polibriged subject. In conclusion, learning style is not the main factors to enhance students’ achievement, but it can be used to identify the tendency of learning styles possessed by students.
