Rocío Narváez Diálogos Pedagógicos, 2026, Vol. 24, Issue 48, pp. 37-52 https://doi.org/10.22529/dp.2026.24(48)03

Inclusive education is one of the main challenges facing contemporary educational systems. This article analyzes inclusive education as an educational paradigm shift, and examines the relationship between diversity, educational inclusion, and the right to education. Drawing on different theoretical perspectives, it explores how traditional educational and pedagogical practices have historically sustained mechanisms of normalization and exclusion within schools. It also discusses the transition from the integration paradigm to inclusive education, understood as a transformation of institutional cultures, policies, and practices, aimed at ensuring the full exercise of the right to education. Finally, it argues that building inclusive schools requires profound cultural, political, and pedagogical transformations, that promote participation, learning, and the recognition of diversity as a constitutive principle of democratic education.

A qualitative meta-synthesis of adolescents’ perceptions of school attendance problems

Anne Sophie Kalvatn; Mia Inglingstad; Anurajee Rasalingam Frontiers in Education, 2026, Vol. 11, pp. 1892533 https://doi.org/10.3389/feduc.2026.1892533

Introduction All children have the right to education; however, school attendance problems represent an increasing global concern. The aim of this meta-synthesis is to explore adolescents’ perceptions of their school attendance problems. Methods A meta-synthesis of qualitative primary studies was conducted in accordance with Sandelowski and Barros's guidelines. Seven databases were systematically searched in November 2025. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the findings. Results The adolescentś perceptions of their school attendance problems included mental health challenges, negative peer- and teacher relationships, and a lack of school connectedness. However, positive relationships with teachers, parental support, and appropriate school accommodation supports adolescents’ re-engagement with school. Discussion The findings highlight the complex and multifaceted nature of school attendance problems, and the importance of collaboration between schools and parents to enable early identification and implementation of interventions. There is also a need to strengthen positive relationships between teachers and peers, increase knowledge about school attendance problems, and foster a positive school environment that supports adolescents’ potential. Inclusion as enclosure: how educational rights are undermined in England and Brasil

Jáfia Naftali Câmara International Journal of Inclusive Education, 2026, pp. 1-21 https://doi.org/10.1080/13603116.2026.2715638

This comparative ethnographic study draws on fieldwork in England and Brasil to analyse how refugee and (im)migrant children's educational rights are undermined in these two contexts. I argue that inclusion operates as enclosure: rather than guaranteeing rights, inclusion frameworks reproduce the structural conditions that sustain exclusion. In England, the hostile environment subordinates education to migration control through asylum dispersal, No Recourse to Public Funds, and the Prevent Duty’s surveillance. In Brasil, despite stronger legal protections, the humanitarianisation of Venezuelan displacement obscures the role of US sanctions and uses educational materials to reinforce donor influence. Across both contexts, systemic barriers such as housing instability, language exclusion, and policy fragmentation perpetuate enclosure. The findings challenge universal inclusion frameworks and call for justice-oriented, context-sensitive alternatives to advance educational equity for all children.
