Intan Permata Hati Zebua; Trisman Harefa; Dernius Hura; Elwin Piarawan Zebua STRATEGY Jurnal Inovasi Strategi dan Model Pembelajaran, 2026, Vol. 6, Issue 4, pp. 1621-1632 https://doi.org/10.51878/strategi.v6i4.15474

چکیده

Discipline assessment in elementary schools is essential for systematically monitoring students’ character development and providing a basis for continuous guidance. However, effective assessment depends not only on the availability of instruments but also on consistent implementation and the appropriate use of assessment results. This study aimed to describe the implementation of discipline attitude assessment instruments and the disciplinary behavior of students at SD Negeri 071206 Taluzusua. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The informants consisted of two homeroom teachers and one subject teacher selected purposively based on their direct involvement in teaching and attitude assessment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicated that instrument implementation involved three stages: planning, assessment, and utilization of results. Teachers used observation sheets and attitude assessment journals to assess punctuality, compliance with rules, and responsibility for completing assignments. Students generally demonstrated fairly good discipline, although their behavior was not yet consistent across all indicators. Assessment results were used to provide reminders, guidance, reinforcement, and continuous character development. These findings highlight the importance of systematic assessment and appropriate follow-up in fostering discipline in elementary schools. ABSTRAK Penilaian sikap kedisiplinan penting dilakukan di sekolah dasar untuk memantau perkembangan karakter peserta didik secara sistematis dan menjadi dasar pembinaan yang berkelanjutan. Employability, work readiness and job alignment among Qatari STEM graduates of international branch campuses: evidence from a graduate survey

Khalifa Alsalahi Alyafei; Mohammed Abdul-Hai Issa Frontiers in Education, 2026, Vol. 11, pp. 1993591 https://doi.org/10.3389/feduc.2026.1993591

چکیده

International branch campuses (IBCs) deliver foreign science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) qualifications inside host economies, yet how graduates’ reported educational experiences relate to their professional outcomes has received little attention in the Gulf. This study examined employability, work readiness and job alignment among Qatari nationals who completed a bachelor's degree at one of two United States IBCs in Qatar. A cross-sectional survey of 75 employed graduates, recruited purposively through professional networks and snowball referrals, was analysed using Fisher exact tests with exact odds ratios and effect sizes, together with parsimonious binary, ordinal and Firth penalised logistic regression with Wald intervals for coefficients and bootstrap percentile intervals for average predicted probabilities; responses to one open-ended question were categorised descriptively. Most graduates worked in roles related to their major (86.7%) and entered employment immediately after graduation (61.3%). Labour-market preparedness was associated with very high perceived employability (odds ratio 4.9, 95% CI 1.6–14.7) and with a very smooth transition to work (Firth odds ratio 13.9, 95% CI 3.5–54.8), and professional ability development was also associated with very high employability (odds ratio 6.5, 95% CI 1.9–22.4). Job alignment corresponded with smoother transitions, though imprecisely (odds ratio 8.6, 95% CI 1.0–73.0). Women were less likely than men to report being very well prepared (adjusted odds ratio 0.11, 95% CI 0.03–0.45); other gender comparisons were inconclusive. Graduates most often requested internships and practical exposure and locally grounded labour-market knowledge. The findings suggest that monitoring preparedness and occupational alignment alongside employment rates offers a more informative account of the professional experiences reported by graduates of international STEM programmes delivered locally.

Responsible Management Education and Its Potential as an Epistemic Object of Change

Valtteri Aaltonen; Marjo Elisa Siltaoja British Journal of Management, 2026, pp. e70121 https://doi.org/10.1111/1467-8551.70121

چکیده

Abstract This study examines whether and how RME can be performed as an epistemic object to broaden business schools’ education on climate change. The research builds on a qualitative case study involving 10 Finnish business schools. The analysis reveals that RME is performed as both an epistemic object and a boundary object, with different implications for its embeddedness within institutions. Our findings show how accreditations have introduced RME as a boundary object enforcing performativity around sustainability themes yet enabling disciplines to maintain their distinct or limited roles. At the same time, RME is met with both resistance and compliance, depending on how well the object fits with disciplinary boundaries and career trajectories. Lastly, as an epistemic object, RME encourages co‐reflexivity, which is essential for climate‐proofing business schools. We discuss the possibilities of a hybrid orientation of RME as both a boundary object and an epistemic object for enforcing climate‐orientation in management education.

Implementation of the Hidden Curriculum through School Habits to Shape Students' Multicultural Character at MTs Al-Quraniyah Manna

Emy Herawati; Ali Mahsun; Wiwik Aprilia; Alicia Fadila; Yovita Sari; Reni Haviva Nusantara Journal of Islamic Studies, 2026, Vol. 6, Issue 1, pp. 69-83 https://doi.org/10.64506/8fv4ee76

چکیده

This study aims to explain the implementation of the hidden curriculum through school habituation in shaping students' disciplined character at MTs Al-Quraniyah Manna, South Bengkulu Regency. The hidden curriculum refers to values instilled in students through school culture, teacher role modeling, rules, and daily habits that are not included in the formal curriculum. This study employed a qualitative approach classified as descriptive research. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that the hidden curriculum is implemented through two primary habituation activities: the TAKRIR program (daily Qur'anic muroja'ah before classes) and congregational Dhuhr prayer conducted regularly from Monday to Thursday at the Maria Affan Mosque. Three main mechanisms contribute to the formation of students' disciplined character: behavioral habituation through consistent daily routines, teacher role modeling through active participation and direct guidance, and the establishment of a strong religious school culture. The results indicate improvements in students' punctuality, compliance with school rules, orderliness during worship, and intrinsic awareness to fulfill obligations without coercion. Therefore, the hidden curriculum through sustained religious habituation serves as an effective strategy for building students' disciplined character at MTs Al-Quraniyah Manna.

چکیده

The traditional culture is an old type of culture with distinctive features of ethnicity which was created and evolved through a prolonged historical process of the Chinese nation. The splendid traditional culture of China reflects the indomitable spirit of self-improvement of the Chinese nation and the endless spiritual wealth of the Chinese people, and represents the common values of the Chinese people. This contains countless positive value concepts, philosophical feelings, modes of thinking, ritual systems, codes of conduct, and lifestyle practices, which will offer theoretical direction and spiritual guidance towards developing healthy ideological and moral character as well as instilling in the youth of the new era the core socialist values. General Secretary Xi Jinping has constantly stressed the importance of curriculum and textbooks playing their part in building a strong foundation and building up the spirit, as well as in brightening up minds and increasing wisdom; they should be the style of China and Chinese nation, and the result of the accumulation of knowledge on human cultural heritage and the outcome of innovations in this field. Hence, the incorporation of traditional culture education in primary, secondary, and higher education will greatly contribute to the successful realization of the mission of fostering virtue and nurturing talent in all schools.

Developing an engaged relational pedagogy of shared reading

Bert Carlstrom Open Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, 2026, Vol. 5, Issue 2 https://doi.org/10.56230/osotl.149

چکیده

Shared Reading (SR) is a communal well-being intervention in which a literary text is read aloud and discussed in a group. A form of emotion-centred close reading, SR emerged as a reaction against elitist academic norms and was developed in an attempt to emotionalise and democratise literary study by moving it outside of the confines of the university. This theoretical essay argues that humanities and social science lecturers might benefit from introducing SR praxis into their classes. Each section analyses an aspect of SR through emotionally engaged (hooks, Palmer), relational (Hickey, Riddle, Gravett), and critical (Freire) pedagogical and theoretical lenses, arguing that SR serves many of the aspirations of these pedagogies. I then consider how SR might be implemented in an academic setting and the kind of adaptations that might be necessary. This essay is a thought experiment which I hope will lay the groundwork for a more sustained and applied experiment in SR. Throughout, I argue that infusing SR into university settings has the potential to positively benefit student well-being and academic performance.

Rebuilding Trust in Higher Education: Strategies for Addressing the “Diploma Divide”

Sebastián Royo Perspectives on Politics, 2026, pp. 1-21 https://doi.org/10.1017/s1537592726106331

چکیده

The Trump administration is using all the levers of executive power to intervene in universities, including multimillion-dollar cuts, investigations into federal regulation violations, visa withdrawals for international students, and ideological pressures. The outcome of this fight over the purpose of higher education could shape the sector for decades. This reflection essay argues that these attacks have been facilitated by a decade-long loss of public trust in higher education. It addresses two main questions: Why have colleges and universities lost the support of society, and what should they do to restore public trust? The essay argues that this loss of support is driven primarily by rising costs, perceived ideological bias, and questions about degree value. By situating these discussions within scholarship on polarization, populist backlash, and the “diploma divide,” this essay moves beyond causes to explore sector-specific solutions. These include improving educational access, redefining political messaging, demonstrating nonpartisanship, supporting their communities, redefining diversity to include social class, and bridging the cultural divide to protect the university as a democratic institution.

چکیده

The study determined the level of work immersion readiness and career plan preparedness among Senior High School learners and examined their relationship as a basis for developing a Career Readiness Enhancement Program (CREP). A descriptive-correlational research design was used, with 509 Senior High School learners in the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track as respondents; most were 17 years old or below (77%), in Grade 12 (95%), and from the Home Economics strand (92%). Data were gathered through a structured questionnaire measuring work immersion readiness in terms of communication skills, technical and vocational skills, work attitude and discipline, and adaptability and problem-solving skills, and career plan preparedness in terms of self-awareness and interest alignment, career exploration and knowledge, decision-making and goal-setting, and understanding of career pathways. The findings showed high levels of work immersion readiness (general assessment means of 3.52 to 3.61) and career plan preparedness (general assessment means of 3.48 to 3.52), all interpreted as Strongly Agree. Significant positive relationships were found between all dimensions of work immersion readiness and all dimensions of career plan preparedness (r = 0.345 to 0.858, p < .001), including communication skills and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.697), technical and vocational skills and career exploration and knowledge (r = 0.817), work attitude and discipline and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.777), and adaptability and problem-solving skills and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.858). The strongest relationship was between adaptability and problem-solving skills and self-awareness and interest alignment, while the weakest was between communication skills and decision-making and goal-setting (r = 0.345). Decision-making and goal-setting showed the weakest correlations with all four dimensions of work immersion readiness. The findings indicate that workplace-related competencies are significantly associated with career planning preparedness, while decision-making and goal-setting and awareness of certification and training requirements require further strengthening. Based on the findings, a proposed Career Readiness Enhancement Program (CREP) was developed focusing on workplace competencies, career exploration, decision-making, pathway awareness, work immersion preparation, and career portfolio development and monitoring.

Bridging Diversity in Learning: Lived Experiences of Teachers Handling Students with Special Needs in Mainstream Classrooms

Rosemarie T. Mallari; Samboy Godoy Nabor INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS, 2026, Vol. 09, Issue 10 https://doi.org/10.47191/ijmra/v9-i10-42

چکیده

This study examined the lived experiences of teachers handling students with special needs in mainstream classrooms at Holy Cross Colleges, Inc. Pampanga during the 2026–2027 school year. Anchored in Husserlian descriptive phenomenology and informed by Social Cognitive Theory and Social Constructivist Theory, the study described how nine purposively selected teachers experienced, responded to, and made meaning of teaching learners with special needs without specialized preparation. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and field notes and analyzed using Colaizzi's method, involving the extraction of significant statements, formulation of meanings, and clustering of themes into a synthesized essential structure. Four themes emerged: Thrown Into Inclusion: Teaching Without a Map, describing participants' unplanned, unsupported entry into inclusive teaching; Reading the Signs: Identifying and Managing Crisis in the Classroom, capturing their reliance on sustained observation and the hidden emotional labor of crisis response; Crafting a Classroom That Fits: Individualized and Relational Pedagogy, describing instructional strategies built through trial and adjustment; and It Takes a School: Collaboration, Gaps, and Shared Responsibility, documenting the collaborative networks and institutional gaps participants navigated. Together, these themes revealed that teaching a student with special needs in a mainstream classroom was experienced as a largely unassisted process of improvisation, sustainable only when a supportive relational and institutional network was present or actively built by the teacher. These findings informed the Teacher Inclusive Practice and Support Framework, proposed as the study's practical output, with implications for classroom practice, institutional policy, and future research on inclusive education.

چکیده

This study examined the usability of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools, teacher cognition regarding ICT integration, and students’ technical proficiency in Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) among junior high school students in pasig. Specifically, it investigated how teachers use simulation software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and instructional videos/multimedia resources, the relationship between ICT usability and teacher cognition, and the influence of teacher demographics on these variables. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, with data collected from 33 teacher-respondents through total enumeration, representing the entire available population of EIM educators in the selected schools. Statistical analyses, including means, standard deviations, t-tests, ANOVA, and pearson correlation, were used to interpret the results. Findings revealed that teachers extensively used instructional videos and multimedia resources, while simulation software and CAD tools were underutilized. Teacher cognition regarding ICT integration was generally high in multimedia resources but low for specialized CAD tools in terms of awareness, knowledge, and operational skills. Students demonstrated proficiency in wiring diagram accuracy and installation skills and were highly proficient in safety practices. Significant differences in ICT usability and teacher cognition were influenced by age, sex, grade level taught, and years of teaching experience, whereas students’ technical proficiency was not significantly affected by these demographic factors. Correlational analysis showed that simulation software, CAD tools, and multimedia resources positively influenced teacher cognition, while only instructional videos and multimedia resources significantly impacted students’ safety practices. Based on these findings, a blended ICT-based instructional framework was proposed, integrating simulation software, CAD tools, and multimedia resources with hands-on practice, assessment, and feedback to enhance both teacher competence and student technical proficiency. This study highlights the importance of ICT integration in technical education, emphasizing that teacher competence with ICT tools enhances instructional delivery, while practical application remains essential for developing students’ technical skills in EIM.

چکیده

Improving the quality of Islamic education requires a quality management approach that is not only oriented toward meeting established standards but also grounded in Islamic values, including trustworthiness (amanah), justice (‘adl), excellence (ihsan), consultation (shura), and continuous improvement. This article focuses on synthesizing quality management principles with Islamic educational values and developing a quality management model that systematically integrates audit, self-evaluation, benchmarking, and accreditation. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method. The research stages include identifying and selecting relevant literature, analyzing the concepts of quality management and Islamic educational values, synthesizing relevant principles, and formulating an Islamic education quality management model. The findings indicate that integrating Islamic values with quality management principles can establish a quality assurance system that goes beyond compliance with standards toward fostering an ethical, integrity-based, and sustainable quality culture. Audits function as instruments for assessment and control, self-evaluation as a reflective process for identifying institutional achievements and weaknesses, benchmarking as a means of learning from best practices, and accreditation as formal recognition of quality standards compliance. The proposed model positions Islamic values as its philosophical foundation, quality management as its organizational framework, and the four instruments as mechanisms for continuous quality improvement. Therefore, the model provides a conceptual framework for developing Islamic education quality management that is integrative, adaptive, sustainable, and oriented toward public benefit.

Specifically, it examined the respondents’ profiles in terms of age, sex, general academic performance, and availability of TLE-related tools at home, as well as their level of functional literacy in technology and engineering design, food and nutrition, financial literacy, entrepreneurial competence, and agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness. A descriptive research design was employed involving 406 senior high school students. Data were gathered using a validated researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean. Findings showed that the majority of respondents were 17–18 years old, with male students slightly outnumbering female students. Most respondents demonstrated favorable academic performance, with the largest proportion obtaining grades of 90 and above. In terms of available TLE-related resources at home, students had greater access to common cooking and household tools than to sewing and agricultural equipment. The findings further revealed varying levels of TLE functional literacy across the identified domains. Technology and engineering design literacy, food and nutrition literacy, and financial literacy were assessed as Needs Improvement, indicating areas requiring strengthened practical knowledge and skills. Agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness reflected a relatively higher level of performance, while entrepreneurial competence was assessed as Very Satisfactory, indicating a notable strength among the respondents. Based on these findings, a work readiness intervention program entitled “Ready for Work: A Work Readiness Intervention Program for Enhancing TLE Functional Literacy among Senior High School Students” was proposed to address identified areas for improvement through hands-on, skill-based, and experiential learning activities. The study concludes that although students demonstrate strengths in entrepreneurial competence and academic performance, targeted instructional support and practical learning opportunities are needed to strengthen TLE functional literacy relevant to employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. Rissa Ade Kusuma; Fadhilah Khairani; Yoga Fernando Rizqi; Frida Destini Journal of Multidisciplinary Education, 2026, Vol. 1, Issue 2, pp. 97-106 https://doi.org/10.68692/mfdt8n69

چکیده

The central issue that is being addressed in this particular research endeavor pertains to the notably inadequate science learning outcomes that have been observed among the fourth-grade students enrolled at SD Negeri 1 Labuah Ratu Dua. The primary objective of this research is to systematically investigate and elucidate the effects that the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model has on improving these educational outcomes. The methodological framework employed in this study is characterized by a quasi-experimental design, which allows for the exploration of causal relationships while maintaining a level of control over extraneous variables. The total population under consideration in this research comprises 60 students, and it is noteworthy that the sample size is also exactly 60 students, thereby ensuring comprehensive representation. In determining the research sample, a non-probability sampling technique was utilized, which is particularly relevant in contexts where random sampling is not feasible or practical. The data collection methods employed in this study encompass a variety of non-test techniques, including but not limited to observation and documentation, alongside test techniques, which are specifically structured in the format of multiple-choice questions. The subsequent data processing was conducted using statistical methods such as the chi-square formula, F-test, and simple linear regression analyses, all of which collectively provide robust evidence supporting the hypothesis. The results indicate a statistically significant effect of the TGT learning model on the academic performance of students in the fourth grade of elementary school, as substantiated by the finding that Fhitung exceeds Ftabel, specifically with values of 19.77 and 4.20, respectively. This compelling evidence serves to underscore the efficacy of the TGT learning model as an innovative pedagogical approach aimed at enhancing science learning outcomes within this educational context. Overall, the implications of these findings are far-reaching, suggesting that the implementation of such collaborative learning strategies could potentially transform educational practices in similar settings.

Yang Lan; Jun Tong; Binyang Li; Shengtao Wang; Kui Dong Frontiers in Psychology, 2026, Vol. 17, pp. 1989620 https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2026.1989620

چکیده

Background Academic burnout is a concern among undergraduate sports majors. Although previous studies have emphasized training- and school-related stressors, less is known about the role of family resources and related psychological mechanisms. Objective This study examined the associations among family capital, academic self-efficacy, and academic burnout, including differences across family capital dimensions and the mediating role of academic self-efficacy. Methods This cross-sectional study included 325 first- and second-year students enrolled in sports-related degree programs at a sports university in Yunnan Province, China. Pearson correlation, one-way ANOVA, and mediation analysis using PROCESS Model 4 with 5,000 bootstrap resamples were conducted. Results Family capital was positively associated with academic self-efficacy (r = 0.554, p < 0.001) and negatively associated with academic burnout (r = −0.575, p < 0.001). Cultural and social capital were significantly associated with higher self-efficacy and lower burnout, whereas economic capital was not significantly associated with burnout. Students with lower family capital reported lower self-efficacy and higher burnout. Academic self-efficacy partially mediated the association between family capital and burnout (B = −0.52, 95% CI [−0.66, −0.40]), accounting for 44.33% of the total effect. Conclusion Family capital was associated with academic burnout among undergraduate sports majors, with stronger associations for cultural and social capital than for economic capital. Academic self-efficacy represented a partial mediating pathway. Universities should provide targeted academic guidance, learning support, and educational and career information for students with limited family resources and lower academic self-efficacy.

چکیده

Purpose: This study aims to develop and evaluate an adaptive ergonomic framework for reducing Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) risks among pre-elderly workers in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Methodology: This study adopted a sequential quantitative design consisting of two consecutive phases. The first phase involved a cross-sectional ergonomic assessment of 50 pre-elderly MSMEs workers using the Nordic Body Map (NBM), Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), and Quick Exposure Checklist (QEC). Based on the integrated assessment results, an adaptive ergonomic framework incorporating administrative controls, engineering controls, ergonomic personal protective equipment (PPE), and anthropometry-based workstation redesign was developed. The second phase evaluated the framework through a 14-day before–after intervention study in five selected MSMEs. Results: Most workers were exposed to moderate-to-very high ergonomic risks, with musculoskeletal complaints predominantly affecting the lower back, back, wrists, neck, and lower extremities. Following implementation, QEC exposure scores decreased across the five MSMEs from 68.7–84.5% before intervention to 46.3–63.2% after intervention, accompanied by reductions in REBA/RULA risk classifications and lower NBM complaint levels. Conclusion: The proposed framework effectively reduced ergonomic risks and musculoskeletal complaints among pre-elderly MSMEs workers through practical and low-cost interventions. Originality: This study contributes a comprehensive and context-specific adaptive ergonomic framework that integrates risk assessment, workstation redesign, administrative controls, and ergonomic PPE recommendations tailored to the characteristics of pre-elderly workers in resource-constrained MSMEs.

چکیده

Background Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is common during adolescence and is associated with substantial psychological burden and elevated subsequent suicide risk. Physical activity (PA) may be a modifiable correlate of NSSI, but prospective evidence on potential emotional mechanisms and social boundary conditions remains limited. This study examined whether baseline PA was associated with subsequent NSSI, whether anxiety symptoms accounted for part of that association, and whether baseline social support moderated the relevant pathways. Methods A school-based two-wave cohort of 756 Chinese adolescents and young students (mean age = 17.36 years, SD = 2.58; 51.7% female) was followed for 6 months. At Time 1 (T1), participants reported PA, social support, anxiety symptoms, NSSI, and demographic characteristics; anxiety and NSSI were reassessed at Time 2 (T2). Autoregressive regression models adjusted for baseline anxiety or NSSI as appropriate, together with age, gender, and urban/rural residence. Indirect effects were estimated with 5,000 bootstrap resamples, and interaction terms were used to examine first- and second-stage moderation. Results Higher T1 PA was associated with lower T2 NSSI after adjustment for T1 NSSI. The indirect association through T2 anxiety was −0.12 [95% CI (−0.18, −0.06)], representing 48.0% of the reported total association. T1 social support significantly moderated the T1 PA-T2 anxiety association ( p = 0.003); simple-slope estimates indicated a stronger inverse PA-anxiety association at higher social support. Social support did not significantly moderate the T2 anxiety-T2 NSSI association ( p = 0.281). Conclusion The findings are consistent with a model in which greater PA is prospectively associated with lower NSSI partly through lower subsequent anxiety, while social support may shape the PA-anxiety link. Because anxiety and NSSI were measured concurrently at follow-up, the indirect effect should not be interpreted as definitive causal mediation. Multi-wave and intervention studies are needed to establish temporal ordering and causality.

The role of speaker accuracy and mutual exclusivity in children’s novel word learning

Shalini Banerjee; Ishanti Gangopadhyay PLoS ONE, 2026, Vol. 21, Issue 10, pp. e0361483 https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0361483

چکیده

Children draw on multiple sources of information during word learning, including speaker testimony and lexical expectations. Yet, little is known about how these cues jointly influence children’s ability to learn new words. The present study examined the combined effect of speaker accuracy and mutual exclusivity (ME) on short-term retention of label-object associations in 4- to 7-year-old monolingual English speaking children. Children were presented novel and familiar object pairs, and were taught novel labels by either an accurate speaker (one who previously labeled familiar objects correctly) or an inaccurate speaker (one who previously labeled familiar objects incorrectly). Novel labels were introduced under two conditions: Align-with-ME (speakers labeled the novel object with novel names) and Conflict-with-ME (speakers labeled the familiar object with novel names, conflicting with ME). Results showed that children retained novel labels for novel objects from both accurate and inaccurate speakers when speaker testimony aligned with ME expectations. This suggests that children are open to learning novel words from speakers regardless of their prior accuracy and may also draw on other available cues, such as label–object co-occurrences, during learning. However, when speaker testimony violated ME expectations, children performed poorly, possibly due to difficulty disambiguating between speaker testimony and their existing lexical knowledge. Together, these findings suggest that children’s short-term retention of label–object associations is supported when available cues align, irrespective of speaker accuracy status. These associations, however, become less robust when ME and speaker cues provide conflicting information.
