This paper presents a practice‑driven software engineering course model that centers the curriculum on multi‑term, client‑partnered projects to cultivate real‑world design, teamwork, and delivery skills at undergraduate scale. The approach combines a shared web application stack, agile project management with iterative demos and retrospectives, and remote mentorship from industry alumni to provide authentic exposure to legacy code, stakeholder communication, and production‑like workflows. Operational experiences (“war stories”) surface recurring risks credential leakage, privacy missteps, shifting stakeholder expectations, and deployment hurdles and translate them into actionable process controls such as time‑boxing, version‑control discipline, and early environment planning. Reported outcomes highlight growth in technical execution and soft skills, increased student ownership through community impact, and a repeatable structure that decouples principles from practicum to support continuity across semesters. The paper concludes with adoption guidance on partner selection, mentor recruitment, and technology standardization to help programs embed authentic, sustainable project work as a centerpiece of software engineering education.
Final-year engineering students frequently face severe psychological stress driven by demanding capstone projects and rigorous accreditation standards. This research proposes a novel decision-support framework to objectively evaluate, categorize, and systematically manage academic stress among engineering undergraduates. By integrating automated non-parametric machine learning with a multi-criteria network decision model, the research bridges diagnostic psychological profiling and strategic institutional intervention. Data were gathered from six hundred eleven final-year students across four engineering departments using a validated psychometric questionnaire. The automated classification engine utilizes a nearest-neighbor algorithm based on spatial Euclidean proximity to categorize individual distress severity into depression, anxiety, and stress levels without relying on rigid parametric assumptions. Subsequently, a strategic situational assessment and a multi-perspective personal performance framework were established to translate abstract psychological findings into measurable indicators. Clinical experts and academic domain specialists evaluated these indicators using an analytical network process, incorporating complex interdependencies and feedback loops to compute steady-state priority weights. Empirical results revealed that over ninety percent of respondents experienced at least moderate psychological distress. Crucially, the mathematical prioritization demonstrated that the financial perspective holds the paramount priority weight, followed by internal cognitive resilience, continuous knowledge acquisition, and external social relationships. This proves that financial stability serves as a foundational prerequisite for academic recovery and intellectual execution. The primary contribution of this research lies in converting static psychometric evaluations into a dynamic, clinically validated decision-support tool. Higher education institutions and academic counselors can implement this prioritized framework to allocate institutional resources effectively, design targeted financial relief initiatives, and optimize student well-being alongside academic excellence.
Engineering education in Nigeria is critical for national technological development and economic transformation. However, the sector faces persistent challenges, including inadequate funding, obsolete curricula, poor laboratory facilities, a shortage of qualified academic staff, and weak industry‑academia linkages. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of engineering education in Nigerian universities and polytechnics. Using a mixed‑methods approach comprising a review of policy documents, institutional surveys, and comparative benchmarking with global best practices, the study identifies key bottlenecks. Results show that only 38% of accredited engineering programmes meet minimum laboratory equipment standards, and student‑to‑lecturer ratios exceed 35:1 in 70% of institutions. Additionally, less than 20% of engineering graduates undergo industrial training of acceptable quality. The article presents a detailed table of accreditation status from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and another on graduate employability. Findings indicate a widening gap between curricular content and industry needs, leading to high graduate unemployment despite reported skill shortages. Recommendations include a sustainable funding model, mandatory curriculum revision every five years, establishment of regional engineering hubs, and a compulsory one‑year industry residency for lecturers. Policy implications for the National Universities Commission (NUC) and COREN are discussed. The article concludes that without urgent structural reforms, Nigeria’s vision of becoming a technologically driven economy by 2030 will remain unattainable.

Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) has the potential to contribute to environmental sustainability and economic diversification through the incorporation of skills and capacities for sustainability in curricula, teaching, governance, and institutional practice. The present study provides a mixed methods institutional analysis of the perceived sustainability and integration of environmental economics in one anonymised public technical education institution in Saudi Arabia. After receiving the appropriate ethics approvals, a survey was conducted to 100 staff (82 trainers and 18 administrators) from 18 April to 31 May 2024. To explain and contextualise the quantitative patterns, semi-structured interviews, open-ended responses, and institutional documents were used. 40% responded “moderate integration”, 35% responded “limited integration”, 15% responded “full embedded”, and 10% responded “not integrated”. The positive associations were found for curriculum integration, the effectiveness of digital tools, governance and leadership, and entrepreneurship-oriented training, whereas resource and trainer-preparation barriers were negatively associated with sustainability-education outcomes. The qualitative evidence converged on three implementation needs: the need for explicit sustainability learning outcomes, systematic monitoring, and targeted trainer development. The results are not to be interpreted as evidence of cause and effect or as nationally representative staff perceptions. The study provides a tentative implementation framework based on indicators, 12 measurable indicators, identified data sources, review cycles, and institutional owners. The framework provides a sensible foundation for local auditing and improvement and needs to be validated both institutionally and over time.
This study explores the teacher–student relationship and students’ sense of school belonging help prevent school dropout in Moroccan secondary schools. School dropout remains an issue with academic and social consequences. The study involved 480 students from educational settings. Data were collected through validated questionnaires. The results show that positive relationships with teachers strengthen students’ sense of belonging to their school. This stronger attachment reduces the risk of leaving school early. Mediation analysis confirms that school belonging explains part of the positive effect of teacher support on dropout prevention. However, the teacher–student relationship also has a direct influence. This suggests that other factors, such as motivation, self-confidence, and classroom engagement, play an important role. The findings emphasize the need to create supportive and inclusive school environments. They also encourage teacher training in relational skills, mentoring, and personalized guidance to improve student engagement and reduce dropout in Moroccan secondary education.
This study designed and simulated an instructional model for integrating green manufacturing concepts into industrial engineering education to strengthen students’ environmental literacy. The study responded to the tendency of manufacturing courses to emphasize productivity, cost, and quality while treating environmental considerations as supplementary content. A design-oriented literature synthesis and curriculum simulation were employed. Green manufacturing principles were mapped onto four environmental literacy dimensions: knowledge, cognitive skills, attitudes and values, and action competence. Two eight-week curriculum scenarios were then compared: a conventional lecture-centered model and an integrated model combining material and energy flow analysis, cleaner production, life-cycle thinking, circular economy, contextual industrial cases, collaborative projects, and reflective assessment. A transparent opportunity-to-learn rubric was used to score curriculum coverage; the scores represented design characteristics rather than observed student achievement. The simulation showed that the integrated scenario provided substantially broader and deeper coverage across all environmental literacy dimensions, particularly cognitive application and action competence. The proposed model also linked technical analysis with the spatial and social consequences of industrial activity, enabling students to consider communities, workers, resource users, and other stakeholders in engineering decisions. The study concluded that green manufacturing should be embedded across learning outcomes, content, pedagogy, assessment, and partnerships rather than offered as an isolated topic. A phased implementation involving lecturer preparation, local industry collaboration, project-based assessment, and empirical pilot evaluation was recommended.
Rapid technological improvements present both opportunities and difficulties for teaching and learning, elevating digital media to the forefront of vocational education discussions. This study investigates the evolution of digital media research in vocational education to determine its impact on current and future educational practices. The Scopus database was used to conduct a bibliometric analysis of 28 publications published between 2005 and 2024. Despite rare oscillations, the main research trend is steadily increasing, particularly after 2020. The analysis identified four key research areas: (1) innovative digital learning via virtual reality, simulation, and e-learning platforms; (2) technological adaptation and teacher preparedness; (3) industry relevance and employability enhancement; and (4) inclusive and ethical digital transformation. Co-authorship and keyword network studies show that developing nations have contributed very little to this field's research, which is still largely regional in scope. The focus of recent research has switched to data analytics, immersive learning, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven personalization, which reflects the intersection of emerging technologies and digital pedagogy. This paper proposes the Digital Media Integration Framework for Vocational Education Transformation, which links digital media platforms, AI integration, pedagogical innovation, and institutional preparation, based on the findings presented. The findings highlight the need for inclusive, interdisciplinary, and policy-supported strategies to assist the digital transformation of vocational learning and provide valuable insights about how digital media is changing in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
As technology-enhanced learning environments increasingly promote active and situated engagement, assessment must move beyond isolated tests of knowledge and skills to capture learners' performance in authentic contexts. In technology and engineering education, systems thinking is often embedded in product-based learning, yet technical product quality alone may not show how pre-service preschool teachers organise, connect, and justify systems-related ideas. The aim of this study was to examine systems-oriented reasoning as part of complex technology and engineering learning outcomes by combining the Distinctions, Systems, Relationships, and Perspectives (DSRP) framework with Epistemic Network Analysis (ENA). Students' written reflections on the “Product as a System” were coded across the four DSRP dimensions and re-encoded as binary indicators of DSRP achievement levels for ENA. Using ENA, we identified differences in the prominence and co-occurrence of DSRP-related reasoning elements between students taught through the technology-enhanced systems-thinking approach (STICT) and those taught through a traditional approach. The findings revealed distinguishable DSRP epistemic network structures between the two groups, with the STICT group displaying a more heterogeneous structure and the traditional group showing a more concentrated network around system organisation, functional relationships, and multiple perspectives. The ENA indicators were more clearly associated with written report quality than with technical product quality. This study contributes to the assessment of systems-oriented reasoning. It suggests that integrating DSRP-based coding and ENA provides complementary evidence about systems-oriented reasoning beyond that captured by product quality alone, thereby contributing to a broader assessment of technology and engineering learning outcomes in authentic higher education assessment tasks.
