Teachers’ Role in Fostering Holistic Student Development

Pardeep Kumar International Journal For Multidisciplinary Research, 2026, Vol. 8, Issue 5, pp. 90739 https://doi.org/10.36948/ijfmr.2026.v08i05.90739

This paper examines the significant role played by teachers in fostering the holistic development of students, extending beyond academic achievement to encompass their intellectual, emotional, social, ethical, physical and creative growth. Teachers play a significant role in shaping students’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and competencies through effective pedagogical practices, learner-centered approaches and inclusive classroom environments. Their ability to recognize diverse learning needs, encourage critical thinking, nurture creativity and promote social-emotional well-being is essential for facilitating meaningful and comprehensive student development. Furthermore, continuous professional development and adherence to ethical and professional standards enable teachers to respond effectively to the evolving educational needs of learners. However, holistic student development cannot be achieved through teacher’s efforts alone. Educational institutions and school leadership also play a crucial role in establishing supportive, equitable, and inclusive learning environments. The paper highlights the importance of shared leadership, collaborative planning and professional learning communities (PLCs) in strengthening cooperation between teachers and school administration. Such collaborative practices can facilitate the integration of academic learning with life skills, value education, experiential learning and the development of essential twenty-first century competencies; the paper also examines challenges that may hinder holistic student development, including limited resources, time constraints, hierarchical administrative structure and inadequate opportunities for professional collaboration. It argues that fostering trust, effective communication, psychological safety and collective responsibility is essential for overcoming these barriers. The paper concludes that holistic student development requires a collaborative and learner-centered educational ecosystem in which teachers; school leaders and other stakeholders work together to nurture well-rounded, responsible, resilient and lifelong learners.

Juanito Eralino; Adrian Nuñez International Journal of Education, Research, and Innovation Perspectives, 2026, Vol. 2, Issue 10 https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23435267

This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of school heads leading Indigenous Peoples (IP) Community Schools in San Agustin and Lianga Districts, Division of Surigao del Sur, during School Year 2025–2026. Seven school heads were purposively selected and interviewed using a semi-structured guide, with data analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings showed that their experiences were shaped by cultural immersion and adaptive leadership, community trust and shared leadership, remote and resource-limited conditions, and fulfillment from learner and community transformation. To address challenges, school heads relied on resourcefulness, stakeholder partnerships, consultation with Indigenous leaders, flexible and participatory governance, and continuous professional learning. The participants also emphasized the need for community-centered governance, culturally responsive and inclusive instructional leadership, sustained Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) training and mentoring, adequate resources, and stronger inter-agency support. The study concludes that effective leadership in IP Community Schools is adaptive, relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in sustained collaboration with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.

Boniface Ushaka Adie; Mary Tate; Wonhyuk Cho; Elizabeth Valentine Government Information Quarterly, 2026, Vol. 43, Issue 4, pp. 102186 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.giq.2026.102186

Digital leadership capabilities and associated clusters of competencies form a foundation for digital transformation in the public sector. This increasingly depends on leadership contributions and strategy-matching competencies shared across organisational levels and professional roles. Drawing on shared leadership theory, we analysed how public sector employees at different organisational levels contribute to digital leadership. The study uses a qualitative research design with independent sources of evidence: document analysis of job descriptions and semi-structured interviews with digital leadership professionals. We mapped the theory-informed competencies to the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA), an industry-recognised competencies framework. We find that digital leadership competencies and contributions should be understood as a shared leadership construct requiring multiple contributions across multiple levels. We offer an illustrative example of our shared digital leadership conceptualisation in practice, using a horizontal and vertical slice of the roles involved in cyber security risk management as the context.
