Multiplicity Theory: Implementation Framework.

Bryson Daudi Kinyaduka Theory & Event, 2026, Vol. 29, Issue 4 https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23832898

Abstract: This paper develops an Implementation Framework as a response to the informal feedback from academics, educators and practitioners on the Multiplicity Theory. The claim the paper responds is that the theory is too abstract; thus, it is difficult to translate it into practice. This paper provides clarification to assist its adoption in education and other fields. We believe the illustrations provided in this paper will be helpful to those interested in applying the Theory in education and other fields. The paper compares the current Implementation Framework with other closely related frameworks. The paper concludes to be able to apply the theory an advanced consideration of sub-activities, aspects and resources among others is helpful in bridging theory-practice gap during implementation of a plan. As a result, we ensure quality of educational activities or products (outcomes). The implication of the framework is stakeholders should understand educational events/products (outcomes) are not from a single process, aspect and resources, but a function of a diversity of the same (processes, aspects and resources).

Basketball expertise is associated with distinct relationship s among dynamic visual tracking, visuospatial working memory, and tactical decision-making

Jinyi Yu; Chang Xin; Yichao Diao Frontiers in Psychology, 2026, Vol. 17, pp. 1988470 https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2026.1988470

Introduction Tactical decision-making in basketball depends on the rapid extraction, maintenance, and use of changing spatial information, but the cognitive abilities associated with tactical performance may not be the same at different levels of expertise. Methods In this cross-sectional study, 90 male basketball players were classified as expert, intermediate, or novice ( n = 30 per group). Participants completed an MOT task, a computerized Corsi block-tapping task assessing VSWM, and a video-based TDM task. Group differences, within-group correlations, and expertise-moderated regression models were examined. Results Experts showed higher MOT thresholds and TDM scores than both intermediate and novice players, and higher Corsi spans than novices. Within experts, MOT was positively associated with TDM ( r = 0.535, FDR-adjusted p = 0.010), whereas within intermediate players, Corsi span was positively associated with TDM ( r = 0.726, FDR-adjusted p < 0.001). The omnibus moderated-regression interaction block was significant, F (4, 80) = 3.331, p = 0.014. Direct pairwise slope contrasts showed that the MOT–TDM slope was stronger in experts than in intermediate players (Δ B = 7.210, Holm-adjusted p = 0.043) and that the Corsi–TDM slope was stronger in intermediate than in expert players (Δ B = 6.682, Holm-adjusted p = 0.042); the other pairwise slope contrasts did not survive multiplicity correction. Sensitivity analyses using Spearman correlations, HC3 robust standard errors, and influence diagnostics supported the main expert–intermediate contrasts. Discussion These findings provide exploratory evidence that cognitive–decision associations differ across basketball expertise levels, particularly between expert and intermediate players. The cross-sectional design does not establish causal mechanisms or developmental transitions.

Holding multiplicity: narrative and trauma-informed couples therapy for dissociative identity disorder

Annemarie Sohn; Eman Tadros; Josh Bolle Sexual & Relationship Therapy, 2026, pp. 1-24 https://doi.org/10.1080/14681994.2026.2741916

Couples therapy involving a couple with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) promotes the incorporation of relational treatment modalities that have historically been regarded as adjunctive in DID care. Through narrative therapy, trauma-informed practice, and a neurodiversity-affirming framework, the case study addresses individual dissociative experiences and relational dynamics while centering client strengths, agency, and meaning-making. In contrast to integration, the therapy respected and honored multiplicity, supporting partners in constructing empowering narratives about their experiences and shared futures. The findings emphasize the need for therapists to master complex therapeutic interventions that enable co-constructed healing for misunderstood populations. Policy and clinical implications promote couples therapy for those with or systems impacted by DID, the enhancement of trauma training for relational therapists, and the encouragement of treatment methodologies that elucidate intimate partnerships as avenues of healing. This case contributes to emerging discourse positioning couples therapy as essential rather than ancillary in comprehensive DID treatment.

Are Baseline Learning Approaches Associated with Cognitive Load, and Do They Moderate the Cognitive Effects of Contextual Vertical Integration? A Prespecified Secondary Analysis of the CONVINCED-OG Trial

Mohammed Ismail-Khan; Nikhat Yasmeen; Mona Mohamed Ibrahim Abdalla; Porfyrios Korompelis Advances in Medical Education and Practice, 2026, Vol. Volume 17, pp. 1-24 https://doi.org/10.2147/amep.s636155

Introduction: Effective clinical teaching depends on managing cognitive load. Contextual vertical integration (CVI), which interweaves basic-science mechanisms with clinical content within a teaching session, was associated with lower self-reported Intrinsic Cognitive Load (ICL) and Extraneous Cognitive Load (ECL) scores and higher self-reported Germane Cognitive Load (GCL) scores in the CONVINCED-OG cluster-randomized crossover trial. Whether baseline deep and surface learning approaches are associated with cognitive load, or moderate CVI’s benefits, is unknown. This prespecified secondary analysis addressed both questions. Materials & Methods: The dataset comprised 103 third-year MBBS students (824 student-topic observations) taught eight core obstetrics and gynecology topics across two teaching hospitals, each topic delivered under CVI-enabled and non-integrated conditions in a topic-level crossover. Baseline deep and surface learning approaches were measured once using the Revised Two-Factor Study Process Questionnaire; ICL, ECL and GCL were self-reported after each session using the Cognitive Load Questionnaire. For each outcome, two linear mixed-effects models were fitted with random intercepts for participant and cluster-period: a main-effects model, and an interaction model adding condition-by-approach interaction terms. Results: Averaged across instructional conditions, a deeper learning approach was associated with lower ICL (b = − 0.040; 95% CI, − 0.071 to − 0.009; p = 0.011), lower ECL (b = − 0.060; 95% CI, − 0.101 to − 0.019; p = 0.004) and higher GCL (b = 0.037; 95% CI, 0.003 to 0.072; p = 0.033). There was no clear evidence that surface approach was associated with any outcome. No interaction between instructional condition and either learning approach was significant for any outcome, giving no clear evidence that CVI’s cognitive-load benefit varied with learning approach. Sensitivity analyses were consistent. With multiplicity adjustments, ECL survived all adjustments, ICL only Benjamini–Hochberg, and GCL none. Conclusion: There was no clear evidence of moderation of CVI-related differences by learning approaches. Deep-approach scores were associated with lower ICL and ECL and higher GCL; surface approach showed no clear association. Keywords: cognitive load theory, vertical integration, learning approaches, medical education, obstetrics and gynecology, cluster-randomized crossover trial

Grounded in Multiplicity

Christian Morgner; Gregory Hadley MedienPädagogik Zeitschrift für Theorie und Praxis der Medienbildung, 2026, Vol. 72, pp. 139-159 https://doi.org/10.21240/mpaed/72/2026.09.24.x

Grounded Theory (GT), as developed by Anselm Strauss and Barney Glaser in the mid-20th century, originated in a research tradition that refused rigid boundaries between qualitative and quantitative methods. This paper argues that Grounded Theory is not only compatible with mixed methods research, but was, in fact, originally conceived as a mixed methods approach. From its roots in the methodologically pluralistic University of Chicago, GT integrated observational, narrative, and statistical data in a recursive methodological loop. Central to this approach is Strauss’s unique treatment of numbers – not as neutral facts, but as representations of social meaning. Using examples from early seminal studies (1950 – 1965), this paper shows how Strauss converted narratives into statistical patterns, then returned to interpret those numbers through rich contextual analysis. The resulting loop enabled the simultaneous exploration of what, where, why, and how social phenomena occur. The paper concludes by linking these classic GT practices with contemporary challenges: digital data integration, hybrid models, and transdisciplinary design. In an era shaped by AI, NLP, and participatory science, GT offers a robust and meaning-centred model for integrated knowledge production that bridges traditional empirical work with emerging digital methodologies.
