Rahmad Gurusinga Jurnal Kesmas dan Gizi (JKG), 2026, Vol. 9, Issue 1, pp. 34-40 https://doi.org/10.35451/jkg.v9i1.4079

Background: Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) undergoing treatment may experience poor sleep quality and fatigue, potentially affecting daily activities and quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep quality and fatigue levels among patients with pulmonary TB undergoing treatment. Methods: This observational analytic study employed a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in April 2026 at Primary Health Center X, Deli Serdang Regency, Indonesia, involving 21 participants selected through total sampling. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while fatigue was measured using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Spearman's correlation test was planned with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: According to the data presented in the manuscript, 14 participants (66.7%) had poor sleep quality, while 7 participants (33.3%) had good sleep quality. Moderate fatigue was the most frequent category, reported in 8 participants (38.1%), followed by severe fatigue in 7 participants (33.3%) and mild fatigue in 6 participants (28.6%). Cross-tabulation indicated that all participants classified as having severe fatigue belonged to the poor sleep quality group. Conclusion: The descriptive findings suggest a tendency toward greater fatigue among patients with poor sleep quality. However, the statistical significance of this relationship remains unconfirmed pending verification of the analysis using individual participant data

Background Symptom catastrophizing reflects maladaptive cognitive and emotional responses to physical symptoms and may worsen symptom burden, distress, and recovery. However, no validated Chinese instrument is available for cardiac surgery patients, limiting patient-centered assessment and early risk identification. Objective To translate and culturally adapt a symptom-neutral catastrophizing measure derived from the original Post-concussion Symptom Catastrophizing Scale and evaluate its psychometric properties in Chinese cardiac surgery patients. Methods Following Brislin’s translation model, the scale was translated into Chinese. A convenience sample of 676 cardiac surgery patients was recruited from June to October 2025. Item analysis included critical ratio testing, item-total correlations, and internal consistency evaluation. Reliability was assessed using internal consistency, split-half, and test-retest methods. Content validity was evaluated through expert consultation. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to examine construct validity. Data were analyzed using SPSS 29.0 and Mplus 8.0.Results The adapted Chinese Symptom Catastrophizing Scale demonstrated strong content validity in cardiac surgery patients (S-CVI/Ave = 0.975; CVR = 0.800–1.000). Exploratory factor analysis extracted a three-factor model explaining 79.774% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable model fit (χ2/df = 2.175, CFI = 0.970, TLI = 0.962, RMSEA = 0.059). Reliability coefficients included Cronbach’s α = 0.936, split-half reliability = 0.894, test-retest reliability = 0.958, and McDonald’s ω = 0.934.Conclusion The Chinese Symptom Catastrophizing Scale demonstrated satisfactory initial reliability and validity evidence in cardiac surgery patients. It provides a brief, standardized, patient-centered measure for identifying maladaptive symptom responses and may facilitate early psychological risk screening, targeted symptom management, and future patient-reported outcome research.

Chronic insomnia frequently co-exists with nocturia, contributing to impaired sleep quality and reduced health-related quality of life. A recent randomized cross‑over study found that daridorexant improved sleep duration, insomnia severity, daytime functioning, and nocturnal voiding in patients with chronic insomnia and nocturia. To complement these quantitative outcomes, the study incorporated qualitative free‑text surveys capturing patients’ lived experiences, addressing an existing gap in patient‑reported insights for this multifaceted condition. Here, we report these qualitative findings assessed at baseline and post‑treatment. This double-blind, placebo-controlled, two-way crossover trial of patients with insomnia disorder and comorbid nocturia included 60 adults ≥ 55 years with ≥ 3 months of insomnia symptoms, an Insomnia Severity Index ≥ 13, and ≥ 3 nocturnal voids per night. Patients were randomized to daridorexant 50 mg or placebo for 4 weeks, followed by crossover after a washout period. Free‑text surveys at baseline and after each treatment period captured patient‑reported impacts of their conditions on daily life and perceived changes during treatment. At baseline, patients reported broad negative impacts across physical, emotional, cognitive, and daily functioning domains. During treatment, more patients reported improvements in sleep (87% vs. 50%) and nocturia (79% vs. 32%) on daridorexant than on placebo, and improvements in functioning, particularly physical, cognitive, emotional, and daily activities. Patients reported meaningful improvements with daridorexant 50 mg, including better sleep, reduced nocturia, and enhanced physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Daridorexant consistently elicited more positive patient‑reported changes than placebo. These findings highlight the value of free‑text surveys for capturing patient‑centered outcomes. NCT05597020.
