Reading comprehension is an essential skill that enables learners to understand texts, interpret information, and determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. However, some Grade 8 learners experience difficulties in comprehending reading materials because of limited vocabulary knowledge and difficulty identifying context clues. This study, titled Improving Grade 8 Reading Comprehension Through Targeted Context Clue Strategies, aimed to improve learners’ reading comprehension by implementing targeted, structured context clue strategies. The study involved 33 Grade 8 learners and focused on five categories: definition and explanation clues, synonym and restatement clues, antonym and contrast clues, example and illustration clues, and inference and general context clues. A pretest and posttest were administered to determine changes in learners’ performance following the intervention. The pretest results revealed an overall mean score of 2.48, interpreted as Low, while the posttest results showed an overall mean score of 3.60, interpreted as High. A paired-samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, t(32) = −10.615, p < .001. The null hypothesis was rejected, indicating that the difference between the learners’ pretest and posttest performance was statistically significant. The findings suggest that targeted, structured context clue strategies may help improve learners’ ability to identify contextual information, infer unfamiliar word meanings, and understand reading passages. The study recommends the continued use of context clue strategies, with additional instructional support for example and illustration clues and definition and explanation clues, to further strengthen learners’ reading comprehension skills.
Collaboration skills and learning outcomes are important aspects that support students’ success in science learning. However, these competencies are often not optimally developed through conventional learning approaches. This study aimed to examine the level, improvement, and significance of the increase in collaboration skills and learning outcomes of Grade VIII students at SMPN 27 Makassar through the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) model assisted by Sketchfab. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 34 students from Class VIII.10 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a collaboration skills questionnaire and a learning outcomes test and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the average collaboration skills score increased from 61.06 to 73.91, while the average learning outcomes score increased from 8.26 to 11.97. The N-Gain values indicated a moderate improvement in collaboration skills (0.32) and learning outcomes (0.55). In addition, the t-test results revealed a statistically significant increase in both variables (p < 0.05). Therefore, the STAD model assisted by Sketchfab can effectively enhance students’ collaboration skills and learning outcomes in science learning.
Vocabulary support in early secondary education needs to reflect differences in learners’ reading readiness and opportunities to use words meaningfully. This study examined reported reading profiles and vocabulary ratings from six public secondary schools in Pio Duran, Albay, Philippines, to inform the development of supplementary vocabulary material. A descriptive analysis was conducted using school assessment summaries, teacher informed vocabulary ratings, and curricular appraisal frequencies documented in the thesis. Reading categories were treated as indicators of reading performance rather than direct measures of vocabulary mastery. School summaries generally showed fewer learners in the frustration category at posttest and more learners in instructional or independent categories. Vocabulary ratings increased across the six schools, from baseline values of 1.67–3.12 to posttest values of 2.06–3.90. However, identical scores across generalization, application, breadth, and precision prevented separate interpretation of these dimensions. Recomputed appraisal means were 4.93 for content quality, 4.94 for format, and 4.92 for presentation and organization on the reported five point scale. Accuracy ratings also identified minor errors requiring editorial attention. The supplementary material was organized around progressively demanding vocabulary tasks, contextual use, and differentiated support. Findings provide a local basis for refining instructional resources, but they do not establish intervention effectiveness. Inconsistent participant totals, incomplete documentation of assessment procedures, and discrepancies in validation records limit interpretation. Verification of the original records and a subsequent classroom evaluation are needed before stronger claims can be made. The study supports alignment between learner evidence, material design, and the scope of conclusions drawn from school assessments.
The development of artificial intelligence in education opens up opportunities to support learning while also raising ethical issues related to academic integrity and students’ digital responsibility. This article aims to analyze the role of character education as a foundation for guiding the use of artificial intelligence in relation to these two aspects. The study employs a literature review using a descriptive-qualitative approach. The findings indicate that the values of ṣidq and amanah provide a conceptual foundation for transparency in AI use, recognition of intellectual contributions, adherence to assignment guidelines, and accountability for learning processes and outcomes. Meanwhile, the values of tabayyun, respect for others, and a focus on the common good underpin digital responsibility in the form of information verification, privacy protection, respect for intellectual property, and consideration of the social impacts of AI use. Strengthening these two aspects requires educators to lead by example, clear institutional guidelines, family support, and reflective learning grounded in ethical dilemmas. This article concludes that the integration of character education and AI literacy should be directed toward developing students who are proficient in using technology while also being able to make decisions honestly and responsibly. The resulting conceptual framework still requires empirical testing according to educational levels and contexts.
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the PJBL model with a scientific approach that influences student learning outcomes. The method used in this study is a literature study by collecting and analyzing various previous research sources related to the implementation of PjBL in elementary schools. This literature study focuses on how PjBL can develop students' cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social-emotional skills. The results of the study show that PjBL through a scientific approach can increase students' interest, motivation, and learning outcomes. This model encourages students to collaborate, think critically, and actively engage in real projects that are relevant to everyday life. However, there are several challenges in its implementation. The success of this model requires support from good time management, teacher guidance, and adequate facilities.
Discipline assessment in elementary schools is essential for systematically monitoring students’ character development and providing a basis for continuous guidance. However, effective assessment depends not only on the availability of instruments but also on consistent implementation and the appropriate use of assessment results. This study aimed to describe the implementation of discipline attitude assessment instruments and the disciplinary behavior of students at SD Negeri 071206 Taluzusua. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The informants consisted of two homeroom teachers and one subject teacher selected purposively based on their direct involvement in teaching and attitude assessment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicated that instrument implementation involved three stages: planning, assessment, and utilization of results. Teachers used observation sheets and attitude assessment journals to assess punctuality, compliance with rules, and responsibility for completing assignments. Students generally demonstrated fairly good discipline, although their behavior was not yet consistent across all indicators. Assessment results were used to provide reminders, guidance, reinforcement, and continuous character development. These findings highlight the importance of systematic assessment and appropriate follow-up in fostering discipline in elementary schools. ABSTRAK Penilaian sikap kedisiplinan penting dilakukan di sekolah dasar untuk memantau perkembangan karakter peserta didik secara sistematis dan menjadi dasar pembinaan yang berkelanjutan. Kedisiplinan peserta didik secara umum cukup baik, tetapi belum konsisten. Hasil penilaian dimanfaatkan untuk memberikan pengingat, arahan, penguatan, dan pembinaan karakter secara berkelanjutan.
The study determined the level of work immersion readiness and career plan preparedness among Senior High School learners and examined their relationship as a basis for developing a Career Readiness Enhancement Program (CREP). A descriptive-correlational research design was used, with 509 Senior High School learners in the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track as respondents; most were 17 years old or below (77%), in Grade 12 (95%), and from the Home Economics strand (92%). Data were gathered through a structured questionnaire measuring work immersion readiness in terms of communication skills, technical and vocational skills, work attitude and discipline, and adaptability and problem-solving skills, and career plan preparedness in terms of self-awareness and interest alignment, career exploration and knowledge, decision-making and goal-setting, and understanding of career pathways. The findings showed high levels of work immersion readiness (general assessment means of 3.52 to 3.61) and career plan preparedness (general assessment means of 3.48 to 3.52), all interpreted as Strongly Agree. Significant positive relationships were found between all dimensions of work immersion readiness and all dimensions of career plan preparedness (r = 0.345 to 0.858, p < .001), including communication skills and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.697), technical and vocational skills and career exploration and knowledge (r = 0.817), work attitude and discipline and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.777), and adaptability and problem-solving skills and self-awareness and interest alignment (r = 0.858). The strongest relationship was between adaptability and problem-solving skills and self-awareness and interest alignment, while the weakest was between communication skills and decision-making and goal-setting (r = 0.345). Decision-making and goal-setting showed the weakest correlations with all four dimensions of work immersion readiness. The findings indicate that workplace-related competencies are significantly associated with career planning preparedness, while decision-making and goal-setting and awareness of certification and training requirements require further strengthening. Based on the findings, a proposed Career Readiness Enhancement Program (CREP) was developed focusing on workplace competencies, career exploration, decision-making, pathway awareness, work immersion preparation, and career portfolio development and monitoring.
This study examined the lived experiences of teachers handling students with special needs in mainstream classrooms at Holy Cross Colleges, Inc. Pampanga during the 2026–2027 school year. Anchored in Husserlian descriptive phenomenology and informed by Social Cognitive Theory and Social Constructivist Theory, the study described how nine purposively selected teachers experienced, responded to, and made meaning of teaching learners with special needs without specialized preparation. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and field notes and analyzed using Colaizzi's method, involving the extraction of significant statements, formulation of meanings, and clustering of themes into a synthesized essential structure. Four themes emerged: Thrown Into Inclusion: Teaching Without a Map, describing participants' unplanned, unsupported entry into inclusive teaching; Reading the Signs: Identifying and Managing Crisis in the Classroom, capturing their reliance on sustained observation and the hidden emotional labor of crisis response; Crafting a Classroom That Fits: Individualized and Relational Pedagogy, describing instructional strategies built through trial and adjustment; and It Takes a School: Collaboration, Gaps, and Shared Responsibility, documenting the collaborative networks and institutional gaps participants navigated. Together, these themes revealed that teaching a student with special needs in a mainstream classroom was experienced as a largely unassisted process of improvisation, sustainable only when a supportive relational and institutional network was present or actively built by the teacher. These findings informed the Teacher Inclusive Practice and Support Framework, proposed as the study's practical output, with implications for classroom practice, institutional policy, and future research on inclusive education.
This study assessed the socio-demographic profile and level of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) functional literacy among senior high school students as a basis for developing a work readiness intervention program. Specifically, it examined the respondents’ profiles in terms of age, sex, general academic performance, and availability of TLE-related tools at home, as well as their level of functional literacy in technology and engineering design, food and nutrition, financial literacy, entrepreneurial competence, and agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness. A descriptive research design was employed involving 406 senior high school students. Data were gathered using a validated researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean. Findings showed that the majority of respondents were 17–18 years old, with male students slightly outnumbering female students. Most respondents demonstrated favorable academic performance, with the largest proportion obtaining grades of 90 and above. In terms of available TLE-related resources at home, students had greater access to common cooking and household tools than to sewing and agricultural equipment. The findings further revealed varying levels of TLE functional literacy across the identified domains. Technology and engineering design literacy, food and nutrition literacy, and financial literacy were assessed as Needs Improvement, indicating areas requiring strengthened practical knowledge and skills. Agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness reflected a relatively higher level of performance, while entrepreneurial competence was assessed as Very Satisfactory, indicating a notable strength among the respondents. Based on these findings, a work readiness intervention program entitled “Ready for Work: A Work Readiness Intervention Program for Enhancing TLE Functional Literacy among Senior High School Students” was proposed to address identified areas for improvement through hands-on, skill-based, and experiential learning activities. The study concludes that although students demonstrate strengths in entrepreneurial competence and academic performance, targeted instructional support and practical learning opportunities are needed to strengthen TLE functional literacy relevant to employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. It is recommended that schools provide structured work readiness interventions, expand opportunities for experiential and hands-on learning, and integrate practical financial, technological, and livelihood skills into TLE instruction to better prepare students for future work environments.
This study examined the reported levels of reading skills, writing skills, academic success, and challenges in literacy development among Grade 5 and Grade 6 learners. The study was conducted in selected public elementary schools in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat during the School Year 2025–2026. A quantitative descriptive-correlational research design was employed. The respondents were 56 learners selected through proportionate sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-developed 40-item questionnaire covering reading skills (comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency); writing skills (syntax, grammar, and morphology); academic success; and challenges in reading and writing. The instrument obtained a mean validity score of 4.36 and a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.762, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that learners reported a very high level of reading skills (M = 4.40) and writing skills (M = 4.51). Academic success was reported as Very Satisfactory (M = 4.50), while challenges in developing literacy skills were reported as Challenged (M = 3.71). The correlation analysis showed a negligible positive relationship between reading skills and academic success (r = 0.119) and a negligible negative relationship between writing skills and academic success (r = -0.097). Neither relationship was statistically significant at the 0.05 level. The findings suggest that although learners reported high levels of reading and writing skills, these skills alone were not significantly related to their reported academic success. Other factors may also contribute to learners’ academic development.
This study aims to synthesize the relationship between deep learning strategies and students' critical thinking skills within the context of Economics education. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, we examined 24 scholarly publications. The synthesis reveals three key findings: (1) a deep learning approach has a significant influence on higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and critical thinking abilities; however, this relationship is complex and mediated by variables such as epistemological beliefs, perceptions of the learning context, and intrinsic motivation. (2) The adoption of a deep learning approach does not automatically result in high-level critical thinking skills; therefore, such skills require explicit and structured development. (3) Inquiry-based learning strategies, structured collaboration, and the integration of technology as a cognitive scaffold have proven most effective in promoting both aspects synergistically. This study offers practical implications for the design of Economics instruction—specifically regarding the cultivation of deep knowledge and the development of critical thinking skills—within the framework of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum).
This research explores how learning science through Project-Based Learning (PBL) can increase student engagement by influencing student interest and academic performance in the 7th-grade classroom. While elementary students often enjoy science because it is very hands-on, middle school introduces a more structured instruction, which can reduce student motivation and lead to a decrease in engagement. This study sought to understand whether Project-Based Learning (PBL) could help bridge the gap between engagement and rigor. PBL provides students with opportunities to explore authentic, real-world problems, collaborate with peers, and apply scientific concepts in meaningful contexts. Students actively construct knowledge through inquiry, experimentation, and reflection. These elements align closely with the goals of middle school science education—to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while maintaining student interest and joy in learning. The study was conducted in two 7th-grade science classrooms, one of which included a dual-language Spanish program. Students participated in science units designed around PBL principles that emphasized inquiry-based projects, collaboration, and student choice. Data were collected using pre- and post-interest surveys and pre- and post-unit assessments to measure shifts in student attitudes, engagement, and academic performance.
This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Pancasila Education, which was caused by a learning process that had not fully involved students actively. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Role Playing learning strategy and analyze the improvement of students’ learning outcomes after its implementation. The study was conducted at UPTD SD Negeri 074038 TOHIA with 23 fourth-grade students as research subjects. This study employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research instruments consisted of teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and learning outcome tests. Data were collected through observation and tests. The results showed that the implementation of the Role Playing strategy improved the quality of the learning process and students’ learning outcomes. Teacher activity increased gradually in each meeting, while student activity also showed increased involvement throughout the learning process. The learning test results showed that the average student score in Cycle I was 63.43 with classical mastery of 39.13%, which increased in Cycle II to 77.17 with classical mastery of 86.95%. This improvement indicates that Role Playing provided students with active, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences that helped them understand Pancasila Education material more effectively. Therefore, the Role Playing learning strategy can be used as an alternative learning strategy to improve students’ learning outcomes in Pancasila Education at the elementary school level. This study aims to examine the effect of the CTL assisted by audiovisual with a deep learning approach on the critical thinking skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya. Although the effectiveness of CTL has been widely investigated, studies integrating CTL, audiovisual media, and a deep learning approach simultaneously in economics learning remain limited, creating a research gap that underpins this study. The novelty of this research lies in examining the synergistic effect of these three components as a unified instructional intervention. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The research instrument was an essay test measuring critical thinking skills based on Ennis's indicators. The results revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group, with the mean score increasing from 36.22 on the pretest to 85.84 on the posttest, while the control group improved from 35.55 to 73.13. The independent samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), with a Cohen's effect size of 1.29, indicating a very large effect. It can be concluded that the CTL model assisted by audiovisual media with a deep learning approach is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in economics learning.
The Tarbiyah Anak Saleh (TRANS) Program is a character and religious development program for students at Al-Bashirah Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT Al-Bashirah). Although the program has been implemented as one of the school’s flagship programs, it has never been systematically evaluated to identify discrepancies between its planning and implementation. The professionalism of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers plays an important role in services that support students’ personal, social, academic, and career development. However, research on professional challenges, competencies, and development strategies for BK teachers tends to examine these three aspects separately without integrating ethical responsibilities. This article aimed to analyze BK teachers’ professionalism in the digital era, encompassing competencies, challenges and opportunities associated with technology use, and continuing competency development. The study employed a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Articles and documents published between 2020 and 2025 were retrieved through Google Scholar and Portal Garuda and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that BK teachers’ professionalism rests on mastery of pedagogical, personal, social, and professional competencies, alongside continuing competency development. However, training and supervision remain limited in terms of duration, evaluation indicators, and monitoring, with a greater focus on professional competence. Digital technologies extend the reach of services but require digital competence and protection of client data confidentiality. The reviewed literature also indicates limited availability of standardized guidelines for online counseling in Indonesia. These findings provide an integrated perspective on BK teachers’ professionalism in the digital era, linking competency mastery, ethical responsibilities, and the ability to use technology. In practical terms, competency development for BK teachers needs to integrate digital competence and online counseling ethics through continuing training, supervision, and evaluation based on measurable indicators. Support from professional associations in developing online counseling guidelines is also needed to strengthen professional and responsible service delivery.
