Experiences of bullying can have significant psychological consequences, including an increased risk of social anxiety. This study aimed to examine changes in social anxiety following Virtual Reality Social Exposure (VRSE) among bullying victims. A one-group pretest–posttest design without a control group was employed with 12 participants. The intervention consisted of three gradual exposure sessions in virtual environments representing social situations. Social anxiety was measured before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results indicated a statistically significant decrease in social anxiety scores following the intervention (p = 0.002), with a reported effect size of 0.974. These findings suggest that VRSE may be a promising approach for reducing social anxiety among bullying victims. However, the absence of a control group and the small sample size limit conclusions regarding its effectiveness and safety. Further studies with larger samples, control groups, and systematic safety assessments are needed.
Background and Purpose: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a global concern in adolescent mental health. Rural boarding middle school students, as a unique and vulnerable population, remain understudied regarding the potential heterogeneity and longitudinal trajectories of NSSI. This study aimed to identify latent classes of NSSI among this group, examine their transition patterns over time, and evaluate the effectiveness of an emotion management group intervention. Methods: Study 1 cross-sectionally surveyed 927 adolescents; we split samples into non-NSSI and NSSI subgroups and ran latent profile analysis (LPA) only among participants with NSSI ( n =285). Study 2 conducted a 6-month follow-up of 550 participants and applied latent transition analysis (LTA) to examine class shifts and predictive factors. Study 3 was a randomized controlled trial in which 30 students from the High-NSSI received an 8-week emotion-management group intervention. Intervention effects were evaluated using repeated-measures ANCOVA with demographic covariates. Results: Within the NSSI subgroup ( n = 285), two classes were identified: a High-NSSI class ( n = 21, 7.4%) and a Low-NSSI class ( n = 264, 92.6%). Poor sleep quality and bullying victimization independently predicted High-NSSI membership. Longitudinal analysis revealed high stability in the Low-NSSI class (91%) and high fluidity in the High-NSSI class (83% transitioning to low-risk). The emotion-management intervention significantly reduced both NSSI frequency and negative affect. Discussion: These findings demonstrate that clinically meaningful NSSI subtypes exist among rural boarding adolescents and that sleep quality and bullying are key modifiable risk factors. The results support a stepped-care approach in school settings, where the High-NSSI class requires intensive intervention and the Low-NSSI class may benefit from less intensive, universal supports. The emotion-management group intervention is an effective school-based program for the most severe NSSI subtype. Bullying is a behavior that can affect students’ sense of safety and comfort in the school environment. This activity aimed to increase elementary school students’ awareness of the forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying through a Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN). The activity was conducted at SD 1 Way Gubak involving fifth- and sixth-grade students. A qualitative descriptive method was applied through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and documentation. The results showed that students were able to recognize bullying, particularly teasing, hitting, and hurting others, although their initial understanding mainly focused on physical actions. Materials presented using simple language and concrete examples helped broaden students’ understanding of bullying and its prevention. The activity also identified bullying experiences related to students’ social and economic conditions.
Background: Bullying remains a significant adolescent health and school safety concern. Self control may influence students' behavioral regulation and involvement in bullying. Objectives: This study examined the association between self control and bullying behavior among students at SMPN 1 Cikembar, Sukabumi Regency, Indonesia. Methods: A correlational cross sectional study included 293 students selected from a population of 1,059 using proportional stratified random sampling. Self control and bullying behavior were assessed using questionnaires based on the Brief Self Control Scale and Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire. Associations were analyzed using the Chi square test and prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: High self control was reported by 185 students (63.1%), while 184 (62.8%) demonstrated low bullying behavior. High bullying behavior occurred in 56.5% of students with low self control compared with 25.9% of those with high self control. Low self control was significantly associated with higher bullying prevalence (PR = 2.18; 95% CI: 1.62–2.92; X² = 27.22; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Lower self control was significantly associated with bullying behavior, without establishing causality. School prevention programs should integrate behavioral assessment, counseling, and coordinated teacher and parent support.
School – Based violence has been recognized as a major educational challenge (UNESCO, 2019). In Uganda, and particularly in urban centers such as Mbale City, reports of student misconduct, peer influence, and group-related conflicts are becoming more common. These challenges not only affect academic performance but also threaten the safety and well-being of learners. Therefore, this study examined the causes, effects, and prevention strategies of school-based violence and gang activity in Mbale City. This study adopted a mixed-approach design, combining literature review with contextual observations in the community whereby Secondary data was obtained from text-books, reports, academic publications and newspapers. Studies indicated that violence in schools negatively affects learners’ academic performance, psychological well-being, and social development (UNESCO, 2019; UNICEF, 2018). Locally, informal observations and reported cases in Mbale City suggested increasing incidents of bullying, student grouping, fighting among students, Intimidation and harassment, Group-based conflicts and indiscipline. The study identified key contributing factors such as peer pressure, family background, Weak school discipline systems (Gottfredson, 2001), Exposure to violence in media and community influence, Overcrowding in some schools and school environment. This further highlighted that effective prevention requires a combination of school-based interventions, parental involvement, and policy support. In Mbale City, these activities remain significant challenges in education and these issues are increasingly visible which require urgent attention according to media reports (Daily monitor 2026, April 17). The study concludes that a coordinated approach is essential in promoting safe and supportive learning environments by combining global research with local understanding to strengthen discipline systems and supervision, Guidance and counseling services in schools, student behavior monitoring by parents and Government’s support to policies that promote school safety.
Bullying remains a concern at SDN Sindangsono because teasing and name-calling occur in student interactions, while students’ understanding of the forms of bullying is still limited. This community service activity aimed to describe bullying prevention education through a participatory approach for third- and fourth-grade students. The activity involved 64 students, consisting of 34 third-grade and 30 fourth-grade students, and included an initial question-and-answer session, presentation of learning materials, an educational video, discussion, sharing session, written reflection, oral evaluation, and a joint commitment. Evaluation was conducted through the initial question-and-answer session and oral evaluation. At the beginning of the activity, students’ responses were more focused on physical bullying. Fifteen students (23.4%) voluntarily stated that they had engaged in actions they understood as bullying, while all participants stated that they had experienced feeling bullied, mainly through teasing and name-calling. After the activity, students’ responses began to include verbal, social, and social media-related forms of bullying, accompanied by reflective responses regarding peer interactions. All participants also took part in a joint commitment to prevent bullying. The activity indicated a broader understanding of bullying, the emergence of reflection, and student participation in bullying prevention.
Abstract Importance Bullying is increasingly understood as a social process in which peers influence whether it persists. Anti-bullying policies and programs often encourage bystanders to intervene directly, yet direct defending can carry social costs for defenders, and evidence that it reduces later victimization is mixed. Some interventions already target the peer rewards that sustain bullying, but participant-role classifications tend to absorb deliberate non-reinforcement into outsider behavior or passive bystanding. Objective This paper argues that withdrawing social reinforcement, the deliberate withholding of social rewards that peers confer on bullying, such as attention, approval, amplification, or audience participation, should be conceptualized as a distinct bystander response. Methods This conceptual analysis draws on the social-ecological framework, participant role theory, social cognitive theory, and evidence that the outsider category is internally heterogeneous. Results Withdrawing social reinforcement is functionally positive when it reflects a refusal to endorse bullying and reduces the social rewards available to the student who bullies. It differs from uninvolved passivity in intent and social function, and from indirect defending in primary target, because these responses act on different points in the social process of bullying. When enacted collectively, it may also signal reduced peer endorsement of bullying and shift perceived peer norms. Conclusions Helpful bystander responding should not be defined only by direct intervention. Bystanders can also target the social rewards that sustain bullying, and responses grouped as passive bystanding differ in whether they sustain or withhold those rewards. Future research should test whether withdrawing social reinforcement can be reliably distinguished from uninvolved passivity and indirect defending, and whether it reduces reinforcement for students who bully. Implications for Practice Withdrawing social reinforcement requires less public confrontation than direct defending, offering students who cannot or will not confront the student who bullies another way to respond. Schools can teach this method as an explicit option alongside upstanding.
The dance piece “Luka Pulih” (Healing Wounds) is a contemporary dance work that explores the emotional experiences of individuals who have been bullied and subjected to social pressure from their surroundings. This work was created as an effort to visualize the psychological process of a person when facing adversity until they are able to rise again through inner strength. The purpose of this work is to convey the message about the impact of bullying on mental health and to describe the healing process as a form of courage and determination in living life. The creative method in this work includes the stages of idea gathering, movement exploration, concept formation, composition, and evaluation. The movements were developed from observations of human body expressions under emotional pressure, which were then processed into contemporary movements with varying dynamics. The accompanying music, makeup, and costumes were designed to reinforce the emotional character in each part of the work. The results of the creation show that the processing of movement, tempo dynamics, and changes in spatial composition are able to present a representation of the character's emotional transition from a phase of despair and indecision to a phase of awakening. Through the work “Luka Pulih”, the choreographer hopes that the audience can understand that the healing process from the experience of bullying requires time, acceptance, and determination. Background Cumulative exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is associated with an increased risk of substance use, overdose, and suicide. Rural children are more likely to experience most ACEs. There is limited literature contextualizing rural individuals’ experiences with ACEs. Public Health 3.0 calls for multisector partner engagement to generate collective impact. The purpose of this study was to evaluate rural providers’ perspectives on challenges and recommendations for ACEs mitigation in their community from a cross-sector context. Participants and setting Participants were 74 providers enrolled in an online ACEs training. Participants lived and/or worked in five rural Missouri counties with high drug overdose death rates. Methods This was a conventional content analysis of written responses to structured discussion prompts from three training modules. Analysis included familiarization, inductive identification of major codes, and refinement of codes, followed by independent coding by two authors until consensus, and reporting major patterns. Artificial intelligence supported preliminary code development. An adapted Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) framework organized challenges and recommendations by setting. Results Results included personal stories about how ACEs impacted their communities through overdose, suicide, homelessness, unemployment, and adverse health effects. Settings included schools, government, healthcare, daycares, criminal justice, Extension, fire departments, libraries, and nonprofits. Participants recommended expanding the ACEs definition to include satanic abuse, bullying, incest, war, genocide, military family stressors, and death of a loved one. Intervention recommendations included whole-family interventions, community-wide training, trauma-informed training, expanded access to treatment, classes in prison/jails, and fostering positive childhood experiences. Conclusion Community voice is necessary to contextualize setting-specific insights that inform development of upstream interventions appropriate for and tailored to the community. Participants identified both strategies that could be incorporated into everyday practice—including empathy, listening, providing judgment-free and safe spaces, providing food for children experiencing hunger, encouraging positive childhood experiences, mentoring, and connecting individuals with resources for food, shelter, clothing, and mental health—and broader structural changes that may require policy-level action. The adapted SIM organizes these concepts.
Bullying is a problem in educational settings associated with students’ psychological conditions and learning processes. However, research on the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Education at the junior high school level, particularly at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat, remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in PAI and Character Education. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design involving 45 eighth-grade students at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and Pearson’s product–moment correlation with IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning (r = .531; p < .001), with a moderately strong correlation. Based on the instrument’s scoring system, this relationship was interpreted as indicating that lower levels of bullying were associated with greater interest in learning. These findings contribute to the empirical evidence on the association between bullying and interest in learning in PAI and Character Education and underscore the importance of a safe and comfortable learning environment. The practical implication is that schools need to address bullying prevention as part of their efforts to support students’ interest in learning. Future research should involve a broader sample, examine a wider range of variables, and employ more comprehensive data collection methods.
Bullying victimization is an important public health concern that has been linked to adverse psychological outcomes among adolescents. The study used mental health well-being data collected in the most recent Bangladesh Adolescent Health and Wellbeing Survey (2019–2020) (BAHWS). A total of 9,116 adolescents aged 15–19 years with complete depression data were included in the analysis. A three-level linear mixed-effects model was employed to account for the hierarchical structure of the survey, with adolescents nested within primary sampling units and districts. Additional analyses examined gender and marital status interactions, subgroup differences, and the cumulative association between multiple forms of bullying and depressive symptoms using a composite bullying measure. The findings revealed that verbal bullying (β = 1.39, p < 0.001) and cyberbullying (β = 1.15, p = 0.012) were independently associated with higher depressive symptom scores. The association between physical bullying and depressive symptoms differed significantly by gender, whereas interactions of gender with verbal and cyberbullying were not statistically significant. Exploratory subgroup analyses showed variation in the magnitude of estimated associations across ever-married females, unmarried females, and unmarried males. A graded association was observed for cumulative bullying exposure: compared with adolescents reporting no bullying exposure, those exposed to on (β = 1.25), two (β = 2.61), and three (β = 4.99) bullying types had progressively higher depressive symptom scores (all p < 0.001). Adolescent Age, Current school or college attendance and higher household wealth were associated with lower depressive symptom scores. Bullying victimization, particularly verbal bullying, cyberbullying, and exposure to multiple forms of bullying, was associated with higher depressive symptoms among Bangladeshi adolescents. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive bullying prevention strategies and accessible psychosocial support services, with particular attention to adolescents experiencing multiple forms of bullying and other vulnerable groups.
The exclusion and bullying targeting minority groups--including sexual minorities, individuals with disabilities, and orphans--have become observable social phenomena in Chinese campus settings. This review examines, from a social psychological perspective, how the herd effect operates within physical campus environments to trigger, amplify, and consolidate prejudice and discrimination held by majority groups toward minority students. Adopting a literature review methodology, this paper synthesizes Asch's conformity experiments, behaviorist theory, Freudian individual unconscious, Jungian collective unconscious, and empirical studies on school bullying and peer conformity published over the past two decades. The central argument proposes a "three-tiered ladder" through which the herd effect function: first, linguistic stigmatization transforms neutral identity labels such as "gay" and" Tang"(a colloquial abbreviation for Down Syndrome in Chinese, used similarly to offensive slurs like "mong" in English) into tools of humiliation; second, social isolation dismantles the victim's support network; and third, peer pressure escalates into physical violence and property damage. This mechanism is significantly amplified within the Chinese collectivist educational context, where the physical inseparability of fixed-class systems extends conformity pressure from temporary behavior into chronic survival anxiety.
Community service through the university’s fieldwork program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) provides students with an opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with community needs at the village level. This article describes the 2026 KKN program of Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau in Meranti Village, Pangkalan Kuras District, Pelalawan Regency, under the theme “Strengthening Communities Based on Local Wisdom”. The activities were conducted from late July to late August 2026 through observation, mapping, discussion, implementation, and continuous communication. Activity data were obtained through field observation, communication with village officials and residents, activity documentation, and reflection on program outputs. The core programs consisted of producing cemetery and hamlet direction signs, establishing QRIS-based digital payment access, and installing road reflectors. Discipline-based programs included bullying awareness, Maghrib Qur’an learning, MDA teaching, education on unhealthy social relationships, public speaking education, and saving education. Supporting activities included creative and basic learning activities at TK Pertiwi, participation in the DEWI (Tourism Village) event, Independence Day activities, volleyball, and futsal competitions. The results indicate that the programs produced practical outputs in the form of village information facilities, digital payment access, road visibility markers, educational activities for children and adolescents, and spaces for social interaction and preservation of local practices. The implementation also strengthened communication among students, village government, educational institutions, and residents. The experience demonstrates that needs-based community service can integrate practical interventions, education, and community participation within a village development context.

INTRODUCTION: The PEACE Pack, originally devised to address bullying in secondary (high) schools, has demonstrated efficacy in several countries. The 4th edition now includes social-emotional learning and has been adapted (co-designed with teachers and students) for primary (elementary) schools, but not previously evaluated with this younger age group. As many young people now acquire personal phones at this age, it covers cyberbullying as well as 'traditional' bullying. METHODS: This effectiveness study evaluated the program with 826 students (mean age 9.7 years) in Australia. Wellbeing (level of happiness and number of good friends), frequency of being bullied, and self-efficacy for coping with bullying were measured before and after the program and at 3-month follow-up. RESULTS: A large effect was found for reduction in bullying frequency for the most severely affected students (bullied once a week or more often before the program, being a quarter of the sample). The percentage of this subsample still being bullied this frequently at 3-month follow-up was 33.4%, a reduction of 66.6%. Most other effects of the program were statistically significant but very small, although there was a general pattern of significant linear trends towards 'improvement'. No evidence was found for a suggested 'healthy context paradox'. CONCLUSIONS: The PEACE Pack, as modified for primary school students, strongly reduced bullying frequency for the most severely affected students, indicating that the program was fulfilling its core function. In general, other measures improved slightly after the program and were sustained or still improving at the 3-month follow-up. SO WHAT?: The PEACE Pack shows promise as a primary-school anti-bullying program that has sustained effects. It includes cyberbullying and social-emotional learning and is designed to be engaging for all students. Being curriculum-based, it stands to benefit from students' relationships with their regular teachers within the broader school context.
Depression is a major public health concern in China, with growing urban-rural disparities. This study aimed to examine how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and other factors contribute to these disparities. Data were drawn from 7979 adults aged ≥45 years from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Twenty-four ACEs were obtained from the 2014 wave, while individual characteristics and depressive symptoms were extracted from the 2018 wave, and the Fairlie model was used to analyze factors contributing to urban-rural disparities. Overall, 36.08% of participants reported depressive symptoms, with a higher rate in rural than in urban areas (39.7% vs. 30.3%, p < 0.001). In terms of ACEs, parental anxiety, parental strictness, and childhood adverse health conditions were risk factors in rural areas but not in urban areas, whereas adverse intra-parental relationship and childhood poor friendship were risk factors in urban areas but not significant in rural areas. Parental divorce was a protective factor in rural areas, while parental depression was a risk factor in both settings. The Fairlie model revealed that 55.65% of the urban-rural difference could be explained by self-rated health status (18.24%), Internet use (7.70%), retirement (6.32%), parental depression (6.19%), educational level (5.35%), life satisfaction (4.68%), gender (-2.56%), childhood starvation (1.68%), parental disability (1.44%), age (0.79%), childhood disease (0.63%), childhood bullying (0.60%), childhood adverse health conditions (0.55%), and marital status (-0.34%). These findings indicate that urban-rural disparities in depressive symptoms may be attributed to both individual and ACEs factors, and interventions should address both structural determinants and ACEs.
Abstract Internalizing disorders are the most common adolescent mental disorders. Using complementary variable-centered and person-centered approaches, we examined whether internalizing symptoms across eight years of adolescence (Grades 5–12) followed a continuous developmental trend or were disrupted by the transition to secondary school, and if different subgroups followed different pathways. Participants were 701 Canadian youth (52.9% girls; 75.9% white). Annual self-reported internalizing symptoms (ages 11–18) were examined using piecewise latent growth curve analysis (LGCM), revealing significant curve and level discontinuity at the transition, with distinct developmental phases in elementary and secondary school. Girls, youth with lower household income, and those with higher bullying victimization and lower social support showed elevated symptoms and/or steeper growth. An LGCM yielded four classes: Low (51.8%), Moderate (32.5%), Increasing (10.6%), and Declining (5.1%). The Declining and Moderate classes had comparable risk for early adulthood outcomes, demonstrating equifinality. Although beginning with similar levels, the Increasing class was at elevated risk compared to the Moderate class, demonstrating multifinality. Findings underscore that the secondary school transition can be viewed as a transition-linked turning point for a subset of adolescents, with implications for targeted screening and intervention beginning in elementary school.
Education is a fundamental pillar of human resource development; however, equitable access to supplementary education remains a challenge in rural areas. Children in Tegalan Hamlet, Bolopleret Village, Juwiring District, Klaten Regency, face limited learning assistance outside school hours because their parents work as traders, laborers, and farmers. The Community Service Program (KKN) conducted by students of UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta designed a tutoring program as a form of educational assistance for children. This community service aims to describe the implementation and impact of tutoring on children's learning motivation and engagement. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, carried out through the stages of problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The participants were approximately 15 children from kindergarten to elementary school levels who attended voluntarily. The program was conducted in four sessions held every Saturday on June 27, July 4, July 11, and July 18, 2026, covering Mathematics, Science, English, the effects of gadgets on children, and anti-bullying education through educational films. The results showed an increase in participants' enthusiasm, engagement, confidence in expressing opinions, and discipline, as well as the growth of habits to use leisure time for more productive activities. The main obstacles were the limited duration of the KKN program and the absence of a sustainable program mechanism. Continuous collaboration among village government, schools, parents, and the community is needed so that similar programs can be sustained.

Bullying remains a prevalent social issue, especially among adolescents, and requires analysis from the perspective of Qur’anic exegesis. This study aims to analyze Qur’anic verses related to bullying through the perspectives of Tafsir Al-Misbah, Marah Labid, and Tafsir Al-Ibris, as well as to examine their relationship with local wisdom values as a preventive effort in contemporary society. This research employs a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach and thematic interpretation (maudhu’i). The findings indicate that bullying in the Qur’an includes behaviors such as mocking, insulting, and degrading others. Tafsir Al-Misbah emphasizes social ethics, Marah Labid highlights spiritual purification, while Tafsir Al-Ibris relates it to local cultural values such as politeness (unggah-ungguh). These values align with local wisdom such as empathy, cooperation, and respect, which can serve as a foundation for preventing bullying in society.
This study aims to analyze the role, implementation, challenges, and solutions regarding the "Seven BK Strategies" program (specifically the pillars of Maintaining Consistency, Managing Situations, and Managing Emotions) in fostering discipline, preventing bullying, and improving emotional control among students at SMA Negeri 3 Selong. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data sources included the School Principal, Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers, homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and students. Structured interviews served as the primary data collection technique. Data validity was verified through source triangulation. The results indicate that: (1) The "Maintaining Consistency" strategy acts as an anchor for discipline through the habituation of the "3S" culture (Smile, Greet, and Salute) and the enforcement of educational sanctions; (2) The "Managing Situations" strategy effectively mitigates bullying through the engineering of physical and social environments, optimization of CCTV and "problem boxes," and the provision of a child-friendly counseling room; (3) The "Managing Emotions" strategy enhances student self-regulation through breathing relaxation techniques and individual counseling. The primary institutional challenge is the imbalance in the BK teacher ratio (two teachers serving approximately 800 students). Strategic solutions implemented include optimizing peer counseling, tightening supervision during class transition periods, and conducting home visit programs (door-to-door). Keywords: Seven Great BK Strategies, Character Building, Discipline.
Procrastination is unnecessary delay that can cause various problems. There are uncertainties around how common exactly it is among students, how much it affects them, and how its prevalence and impact compare to those of other issues that students regularly face. Accordingly, this study examines data from 65,950 students (in all degree types and stages), who were surveyed across 97 US institutions of higher education as part of the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA). Students were asked about 36 life and health issues, like procrastination, career, finances, appearance, family, bullying, anxiety, depression, ADHD, sleep difficulties, allergies, and influenza. Procrastination was found to be the most common issue that students reported (functionally tied with stress), affecting 72.3% of them. Procrastination was also the issue that most often harmed students’ academic performance, affecting 45.4% of them (62.7% of those who experienced it), which was several times as often as issues like finances (2.8x) and ADHD (3.5x). And, procrastination was the most common cause of significant distress compared to the other life issues, affecting 45.7% of students (63.2% of those who experienced it). These rates were higher among undergraduate students, although procrastination was a leading issue among graduate and professional students too. This sheds light on the scale of student procrastination—both in absolute terms and relative to other issues they face—and highlights the need to address it using relevant interventions.
Abstract The study is aimed at enhancing access to quality basic education in kebbi state. Universal Basic Education (UBE) policy in Nigeria aims to provide free and compulsory education to all children aged 5-16.
The preschool period is a critical time for developing emotional regulation and problem-solving skills. Children frequently encounter various stressors such as separation anxiety, peer bullying, and sibling rivalry, which require effective coping mechanisms. Parental support is crucial in developing children’s problem-solving skills. Children’s literature is an important resource in showing children the problems they may encounter and how to cope with them. This study aims to examine how the role of the family in children’s problem-solving processes is represented in illustrated children’s books and to identify the forms of support portrayed by family members within these narratives. The study was designed as a qualitative document analysis employing purposive criterion sampling to examine selected picturebooks as cultural products. Purposive sampling was used in the research. Ten illustrated books selected for this study were examined through content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the forms of parental participation in the process of developing children’s problem-solving skills in the books were categorized under the dimensions of “metaphorical concretization and cognitive guidance,” “metaphorical concretization and cognitive guidance,” “democratic participation and joint decision-making” and “play, role-playing, and creating a safe rehearsal space.” In the 10 works examined, parents participated in the problem solving process; They have “metaphorically concretized abstract concepts and Cognitive Guidance” “transformed social crises into safe rehearsals by gamifying them,” “exhibited participatory attitudes that encourage democratic participation in decision making processes,” and established an “unshakeable climate of trust through the emotional validation and reassurance strategy” they offered. The findings show that in children’s literature, the family is not merely a figurehead, but is positioned as an “external regulator” that helps children develop coping strategies for dealing with problems.

Purpose: This study examined with the aim of examining the levels of exposure to cyberbullying and emotional abuse among students in health sciences–related fields.Material and Methods: The sample for this cross-sectional study comprised 590 students enrolled in the departments of Midwifery (n = 200), Nursing (n = 144), Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (n = 128), and Health Management (n = 118) at a Faculty of Health Sciences of a university. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Revised Cyber Bullying Inventory–II (RCBI-II), and the Emotional Abuse Exposure Scale (EAES).Results: 41.9% of students reported witnessing cyberbullying at least once, while 36.1% reported being exposed at least once. Among exposed students cyberbullying, 27.3% indicated that cyberbullying occurred through social networking sites, and 53.9% reported awareness of emotional abuse. The mean RCBI-II scores were 13.92 ± 5.93 for cyber victimization and 12.47 ± 4.83 for cyberbullying, whereas the total EAES mean score was 54.27 ± 26.78. A statistically significant moderate positive correlation was identified between RCBI-II (cyber victimization and cyberbullying) scores and total EAES scores (p < 0.001).Conclusion: The findings indicate that students experience higher levels of cyber victimization and moderate levels of emotional abuse. As cyber victimization and cyberbullying levels increase, exposure to emotional abuse increases. Students in the midwifery department were found to experience lower levels of cyber victimization, to engage less frequently in cyberbullying behaviors, and to be exposed to lower levels of emotional abuse overall.
Bullying is widespread and negatively impacts youth mental health. However, differences between in-person bullying, cyberbullying, and their combination are understudied. To compare the prevalence, clinical presentations, and impairment associated with in-person bullying, cyberbullying, and their combination among depressed youth. Participants were N = 1,281 depressed and/or suicidal youth in Texas aged 8-17 years. Chi-square tests compared bullying prevalence across age, sociodemographic, and identity groups. Multivariate analysis of variance and post-hoc tests compared clinical presentations across forms of bullying experienced. Bullying prevalence differed by age group. Youth who experienced cyberbullying or combined bullying reported greater depression, anxiety, and impairment than non-bullied youth. Prevention and intervention strategies should address the combined effects of in-person and cyberbullying.
