Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting a curriculum based on citizenship legal literacy education in order to improve the quality of civic education in Iran’s educational system. Methods and Materials: This applied and developmental study was conducted using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design. In the qualitative phase, the statistical population included experts in education, curriculum planning, social sciences, and citizenship rights. Participants were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through 15 semi-structured interviews, which continued until theoretical saturation was achieved. The qualitative data were analyzed using MaxQDA software through open, axial, and selective coding. The extracted themes were then organized to develop a conceptual structure for a curriculum based on citizenship legal literacy education. Findings: The inferential findings supported a multidimensional structure for citizenship legal literacy education. The analysis indicated that five key components formed the core of the proposed curriculum model: citizenship rights education, values and beliefs, practical empowerment, development of social interaction, and media and digital literacy education. These components represented interrelated knowledge-based, attitudinal, behavioral, and social indicators. The findings showed that emphasis on citizens’ rights and responsibilities, justice-oriented attitudes, dialogue skills, social participation, legal awareness, responsible media use, and digital literacy plays a decisive role in designing an effective curriculum for educating law-abiding and participatory citizens. Conclusion: The results suggest that citizenship legal literacy education in Iran requires a shift from the mere transmission of theoretical concepts toward a competency-based, participatory, and practice-oriented curriculum. Such a curriculum can contribute to strengthening civic awareness, promoting legal responsibility, enhancing social participation, supporting educational justice, and preparing students for active and responsible citizenship in contemporary society.

This article analyzes Brazilian academic production on Food and Nutrition Education (FNE) and teacher education based on theses and dissertations available in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, published between 2006 and 2024. The review was conducted in seven stages and used content analysis to investigate the selected studies. The results highlight the contribution of different fields of knowledge to the area, with a predominance of female researchers holding degrees in Nutrition or teacher education programs. Most studies focused on Elementary Education, particularly within the Natural Sciences curriculum, and employed participatory methodologies such as action research and ethnography. The teacher education initiatives analyzed were generally grounded in the Reference Framework for Food and Nutrition Education and the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population, fostering reflective and contextualized approaches. Thus, the present study found that teacher education in Food and Nutrition Education should promote autonomy, critical reflection, and the collective construction of knowledge, in line with contemporary educational perspectives.
Character education is an important foundation for preparing preservice teachers. However, the internalization of moral values does not necessarily entail the ability to make ethical decisions in professional practice. This article aims to synthesize the conceptual relationships among character education, moral development, professional identity, and professional ethics among preservice teachers and formulate a framework for strengthening teacher education. The study employed an integrative literature review involving targeted searches for major theoretical works and scholarly articles on character education, moral reasoning, teachers’ professional ethics, and preservice teacher education. The literature was analyzed thematically by comparing theoretical foundations, research contexts, findings, and pedagogical implications. The synthesis indicates that the transition from personal character to professional ethics is a nonlinear process integrating five mechanisms: recognition of values and moral sensitivity, role modeling, reasoning through ethical dilemmas, guided reflection during field placements, and an institutional culture consistent with ethical values. The synthesis also identifies a gap between ethical knowledge and the ability to apply moral concepts explicitly when considering conflicts between values. These findings underscore the need for ethics education that connects an understanding of norms with reasoning practice and reflection on professional experiences. This article proposes a Character–Professional Ethics Transition Model linking value internalization, moral reasoning, professional identity formation, and accountable ethical action. In practical terms, the framework may guide the integration of learning based on ethical dilemmas, reflection on field placements, and the strengthening of institutional culture into preservice teacher education. The proposed model requires empirical testing, particularly through longitudinal research in Indonesian teacher education contexts.
Abstract Faculty development (FD) and the preparation of future faculty are central to university teaching quality, yet in Japan they are studied separately and remain underexamined in English. Pre-faculty development (pre-FD), a term coined within Japanese higher education, exclusively denotes the pre-service teaching preparation of doctoral students and other prospective academics, broadly corresponding to the American “Preparing Future Faculty” movement. Treating the two as tracks of a single academic-development continuum, this article asks how each has been institutionalized and localized in Japan, and what constrains the translation of policy into teaching improvement. The study is a narrative, document-based conceptual review of policy documents, statutory standards, national surveys, and Japanese- and English-language scholarship, using the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as an analytical lens. Three findings emerge. First, both tracks advanced through top-down policy-driven and policy-induced reform: In-service FD became a legal mandate in 2008, whereas pre-FD remains a best-effort obligation. Second, in-service FD has developed a distinctive cluster of locally grounded practices: inter-university networks, mutual FD, the collegial model, and student-engaged FD. Third, national survey data show participation rising while collegial formats and dedicated provision declined over the same period, indicating that participation rates are a poor proxy for teaching-development quality. Reading the tracks together reveals what single-track accounts obscure: shared organizational carriers and a common ceiling set by the absence of a continuing professional role in academic development. The article argues, as a proposition derived from the analysis, that sustainable development depends on connecting the two tracks into a continuous career pathway framed by SoTL.
This conceptual narrative review stems from a doctoral study that focuses on the teaching of values in the implementation of the secondary school curriculum in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean secondary school history curriculum provides for values inculcation grounded on Ubuntu. However, despite expansive research on the implications of Ubuntu on instructional practice, there is a gap on how it informs pedagogy for values teaching in secondary school history education. The study employed a qualitative approach which enabled an indepth exploration. The review focused on twelve papers on Ubuntu’s application on pedagogy and ten on values pedagogy in secondary school history education that were obtained from Scopus, Google Scholar and ERIC academic databases. Keywords such as Ubuntu and pedagogy, values education and secondary school history education as well as abstracts were used to select the reviewed papers. Thematic analysis was employed to analyse data which involved coding of relevant information to develop themes. Findings show that Ubuntu oriented pedagogy is interactive, practical oriented, learner centered and speaks to the experiences of learners. This paper provides insights on how history teachers can translate Ubuntu pedagogy to instil values in secondary school history education. For this to be effective, we recommend staff development of history teachers by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, use of diverse learner centered pedagogy in history lessons by history teachers and provision of multimedia to secondary schools by relevant stakeholders to ensure creation of engaging learning experiences in the implementation of the history curriculum.
Abstract Online education in Japanese universities expanded rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic, exposing both the genuine value of flexible learning formats and the structural conditions required to make them effective. While students consistently appreciated the temporal and spatial autonomy of online study, research has identified persistent challenges including isolation, physical and psychological fatigue, assignment overload, declining motivation, and inequities in digital access and ICT literacy. This paper presents a narrative synthesis of recent empirical studies on online learning in Japanese higher education, arguing that student success is associated with the coordinated integration of three interdependent dimensions. Drawing on national surveys, institutional reports, and case-based research, the paper proposes the Flexibility–Structure–Support (FSS) Model, in which flexibility without adequate pedagogical structure may increase the risk of disengagement, while structure without sufficient institutional support may contribute to uneven and inequitable learning experiences. Effective instructional design—integrating active learning, motivating assignments, meaningful feedback, and blended formats—must be accompanied by investment in infrastructure, systematic faculty development, and explicit support for student self-regulated learning. Implications for course design, program coordination, and institutional policy are discussed, along with limitations and directions for future research.
The article highlights the use of a Venn diagram in military education as a tool for comparing close concepts and substantiating their general and distinctive features. Based on methodical sources related to graphic organization, a conditional training session designed to study command and leadership activities is developed. Pre-defining comparison criteria, placing features with evidence, and formulating a written conclusion based on the diagram are proposed. The importance of the method is revealed in avoiding the strict antithesis of concepts and demonstrating their mutual relationship.

Inclusive education is one of the main challenges facing contemporary educational systems. This article analyzes inclusive education as an educational paradigm shift, and examines the relationship between diversity, educational inclusion, and the right to education. Drawing on different theoretical perspectives, it explores how traditional educational and pedagogical practices have historically sustained mechanisms of normalization and exclusion within schools. It also discusses the transition from the integration paradigm to inclusive education, understood as a transformation of institutional cultures, policies, and practices, aimed at ensuring the full exercise of the right to education. Finally, it argues that building inclusive schools requires profound cultural, political, and pedagogical transformations, that promote participation, learning, and the recognition of diversity as a constitutive principle of democratic education.

Teacher assessment literacy has received increasing attention, yet evidence remains fragmented across studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized 18 studies comprising 21 independent samples using the ALI, CALI, and TALQ instruments. The pooled mean score was 16.48 (95% CI [14.86, 18.10]) on a 35-point scale, indicating low assessment literacy, with substantial between-study heterogeneity (I² = 99.21%). Publication year, geographical region, instrument type, teacher status, teaching level, and subject specialization were not significant moderators. This review provides the first quantitative benchmark of teacher assessment literacy across the ALI, CALI, and TALQ instruments and highlights the need to strengthen assessment literacy through pre-service education, continuous professional development, and context-responsive educational policies.
The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the methodological toolkit for research on language education in the Baltic States under conditions of digitalization. The expediency of using a multi-level structure of scientific inquiry, which includes theoretical-methodological, system-analytical, and generalizing-prognostic levels, is substantiated. It is proven that such a research logic ensures the integrity of the scientific strategy, consistency in studying the problem, and reliability of the obtained results. The content of the theoretical-methodological level is revealed, which involves understanding the essence of language education digitalization, forming the source base, clarifying the conceptual and terminological framework, and defining the conceptual foundations of the study. The significance of general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, systematization, generalization, and interpretation, as well as specific scientific methods of theoretical generalization, historical-structural, comparative-historical, and terminological analysis, is determined. The system-analytical level aimed at an in-depth study of the source base, systematization of factual material, development of the periodization of language education digitalization, and comparative analysis of educational practices in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia is characterized. The role of the problem-search method, theoretical modeling, retrospective analysis, comparative approach, and periodization method is identified. It has been found that the generalizing-prognostic level ensures the integration of research results, the identification of leading trends in the digital transformation of language education, the formulation of practical recommendations for higher education institutions in Ukraine, and the forecasting of prospects for the field's further development. Particular attention is paid to the possibilities for adapting the Baltic States' construction experience to the Ukrainian educational space. It is concluded that the application of an integrated system of methods and scientific approaches creates a proper basis for studying digitalization of language education, makes it possible to identify patterns of its development, and determine effective directions for modernizing language training in higher education.
This research study was conducted to provide a comparative analysis of the writing skills of intellectually disabled boys and girls studying at the secondary level. The primary objective of the study was to test the hypothesis that "intellectually disabled boys at the secondary level will exhibit higher writing skills compared to intellectually disabled girls." A total of 60 intellectually disabled students (30 boys and 30 girls, aged 12–18 years) were selected from special and inclusive schools in the Raipur district (Chhattisgarh) using purposive random sampling. Data were collected using a standardized 'Writing Skill Assessment Scale' (WSAS), which evaluated fine motor skills, shape imitation, clarity of letters/words, and copying speed. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the mean, standard deviation (SD), and t-test. The results indicated no statistically significant difference between the scores of boys (M=54.20, SD=8.15) and girls (M=52.80, SD=8.40) (t=0.65, p=.518). Consequently, the formulated hypothesis is rejected. The study concludes that, in the context of intellectual disability, the development of writing skills is not gender-dependent but rather relies on individual motor coordination and regular practice.
Against the backdrop of deepening industry-education integration in vocational education and AI-driven digital transformation, productive teaching projects face not only the perennial challenge of transforming authentic production tasks into teachable activities, but also new challenges such as rapid resource obsolescence, heterogeneous learner foundations, and insufficient evidence for process-based assessment. Taking the “Deployment and Maintenance of a Navigation Data Storage Platform” task from the Yangtze River Trunk-Line Ship Water Pollutant Joint Supervision and Service Information System as a case, this study builds on the six-stage process of Select→Deconstruct→Define→Transform→Integrate→Extend and develops a human–AI collaborative mechanism characterized by real projects as the carrier, job competencies as the main line, and AI-supported cognition as the support. To strengthen AI empowerment across project development and implementation, AI is embedded in project selection, work-process deconstruction, competency definition, teaching-task transformation, curriculum integration, and resource expansion, and is integrated with IDEAL project-based learning, multi-stakeholder whole-process assessment, “dual-teacher + AI assistant” collaboration, and a blended virtual–real training environment. This study provides a reference for IT-related programs seeking to build replicable and iteratively improvable AI-empowered productive teaching projects.
Moral education of the individual is a complex and multifaceted process that includes pedagogical and social phenomena. However, the process of moral education is to some extent autonomous. Moral education is effectively carried out only as a holistic pedagogical process that meets the norms of universal morality, the organization of all life and student life, including modern youth. As well as activities, relationships, communication, taking into account their age and individual characteristics. The result of a holistic process is the formation of a morally whole personality, in the unity of its consciousness, moral feelings, conscience, moral will, skills, habits, socially valuable behavior. Moral education includes: the formation of students’ awareness of their connection with society, dependence on it, the need to coordinate their behavior with the interests of society; familiarization with moral ideals, requirements of society, proof of their legitimacy and reasonableness; transformation of moral knowledge into moral beliefs, creation of a system of these beliefs; formation of stable moral feelings, high culture of behavior as one of the main manifestations of respect for people; formation of moral skills. The content of education is understood as a system of knowledge, beliefs, skills, qualities and personality traits, stable behavioral habits that students should possess in accordance with the set goals and objectives. In today’s rapidly changing world, the ability to be independent and self-sufficient is increasingly recognized as a vital skill for success in various areas of life, including education. This is especially true for first-year university students, as they transition from the structured environment of high school to the more autonomous and demanding world of higher education. Developing independence skills in these students is crucial for their adaptation to the university environment and overall personal and academic growth. The concept of independence encompasses various aspects, including the development of autonomy and the development of skills that enable students to navigate the complexities of university life. Autonomy refers to the ability to make decisions, take initiative, and act independently, while the development of independence skills involves acquiring the necessary competencies to function effectively in the educational environment. The state of knowledge regarding the development of independence skills in first-year students is an area of ongoing research. Understanding the factors that contribute to the development of independence in students is essential for supporting them during this transition and enriching their overall educational experience.
There is growing research interest in how adult education can better respond to an increasingly diverse student population as part of realising inclusive education. However, less attention has been given to practice oriented perspectives that examine how inclusion is enacted as a dynamic, situated process in everyday teaching. This study examines how teachers navigate the challenges involved in shaping inclusive adult education in Swedish municipal adult education (SMAE), drawing on the theory of practice architectures. Qualitative survey data were collected from teachers in eight SMAE institutions. The findings show that teachers encounter challenges embedded in cultural-discursive, material-economic, and social-political arrangements within a marketised system. These arrangements both enable and constrain their efforts to realise inclusive education. Teachers respond by adopting different strategies, ranging from disengagement and workaround solutions to market responsive and professionally accountable approaches, illustrating the uneven conditions shaping inclusive practice.
While research into inclusivity and dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental condition affecting language learning, has gained greater attention, multilevel stakeholders’ perspectives across both public schools and teacher education programs remain underexplored. Addressing this gap, this study adapts the broader UNESCO Policy Review Framework as a lens for investigating dyslexia-friendly inclusive practices among ELT stakeholders, including in-service teachers, school administrators, teacher educators, and university administrators in the Riau Islands, Indonesia. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, this study gathered data through questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, data were analyzed via descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Results revealed limited awareness of dyslexia and inclusive education, alongside misconceptions and reliance on special schools. Although inclusive practices were evident (mainly differentiated instruction), specific support for students with dyslexia remained unaddressed. Despite inclusion being viewed positively and mandated within the education system, its implementation remained weak. The study offers implications for systemic reform, suggesting that ELT stakeholders enhance their inclusive practices through training and developing inclusive institutional management. Additionally, teacher education institutions should pursue curricular adjustments to incorporate dyslexia-friendly inclusive practices.
This study investigates the internalization of moral education values through traditional games in an Islamic early childhood education institution, focusing on the implementation of play-based activities, teacher facilitation, and children's emerging moral behaviors. Adopting a qualitative field research approach, the study was conducted at RA Athfalul Huda GUPPI, Qurnia Village, Mataram, Indonesia. Research participants were purposively selected and included the school principal, teachers, and children involved in traditional game-based learning. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data credibility was supported through source and methodological triangulation and sustained observation. The findings identify four traditional games Cublak-Cublak Suweng, Gobak Sodor, Petak Umpet, and Dakon—as learning activities that provide opportunities for children to experience and practice moral values through shared rules, peer interactions, turn-taking, and collaborative participation. Teacher facilitation, particularly through behavioural modelling, rule reinforcement, guidance, and post-activity reflection, emerged as an important component of the moral learning process. The values addressed through these activities included honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, patience, cooperation, sportsmanship, tolerance, humility, and social awareness. Furthermore, parent-reported observations indicated that some positive behavioral practices were also reflected in children's interactions at home. These findings highlight the pedagogical potential of culturally embedded traditional games as a context for experiential moral education. The study contributes a contextually grounded understanding of how traditional play and teacher mediation can support the development of moral awareness and emerging behavioral practices in Islamic early childhood education.
Background Patient education is an important component of nursing care, influencing treatment outcomes, quality of life, and healthcare costs. However, educational practices are often generalized and may not address patients’ individual needs, health literacy, or socio-cultural contexts. Individualized patient education tailors content to patients’ characteristics, goals, and capabilities, and enhances adherence, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Existing tools mainly focus on general aspects of patient education, such as educational quality or provider competencies, and no comprehensive patient-centered tool has been established to assess the individualized nature of patient education. This may constrain systematic assessment and improvement of individualized educational practices. Therefore, this protocol aims to conceptualize individualized patient education, develop a measurement tool, and evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods This two-phase exploratory sequential mixed-methods study will be conducted in educational hospitals affiliated with Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, northwest Iran. Phase 1 will involve hybrid concept analysis, including a literature review and directed qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with patients with chronic diseases and their family members until data saturation, followed by directed content analysis to clarify the concept, identify provisional dimensions, and generate initial items, which will be evaluated quantitatively. Phase 2 will assess the tool’s psychometric properties. Face and content validity will be evaluated using qualitative feedback and the Impact Score, Content Validity Ratio, Content Validity Index, and Modified Kappa coefficient. Construct validity will be examined using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses in SPSS v.24 and AMOS v.24, with independent samples of at least 200 participants per analysis. Reliability will be assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, McDonald’s omega, and test-retest stability. Interpretability and feasibility will also be evaluated. Discussion If the tool demonstrates adequate validity and reliability, it may provide a standardized measure for assessing individualized educational interventions and support quality improvement, patient engagement, and evidence-informed health education strategies.
This article examines ethics education in schools in the light of three converging processes: the expansion of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), human rights education, and the growing importance of digital environments in everyday life. It argues that Ethics Education goes beyond the transmission of values and involves issues of justice, participation, care, and recognition. Drawing on recent literature, the article analyzes both the contributions and tensions surrounding CSE as well as the challenges posed by digital citizenship. It concludes that schools currently require a broader political-pedagogical horizon to address these issues in an integrated manner.
Background Despite the substantial growth of research on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in higher education, the field remains characterized by geographic concentration, methodological constraints, and conceptual fragmentation between established competence frameworks and emerging demands such as climate literacy and green skills. No prior review has simultaneously mapped the bibliometric architecture and conducted an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted inductive thematic synthesis of this domain. Methods A dual-method design integrated bibliometric network analysis—co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and keyword co-occurrence—with AI-assisted inductive thematic synthesis. A total of 442 peer-reviewed documents were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, and ERIC (2015–2026) through systematic multi-database search, deduplication, and PICO-adapted relevance screening evaluated by a specialized multi-rater panel (Fleiss’ κ=0.55 – 0.69 , 98.4% unanimous agreement on the retained corpus). Thematic extraction was performed using two complementary large language model architectures (Qwen3-235B and DeepSeek V3.2), governed by a stringent verification protocol achieving a 92.0% alignment score; 37 hallucination flags were audited and corrected via human expert review. Results The corpus exhibits substantial and accelerated scientific expansion since 2019 ( R2=0.91 for exponential fit; compound annual growth rate of 18.4%), with Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany accounting for over one-third of output. Five thematic clusters emerged: curriculum integration, transformative pedagogies, institutional and faculty roles, sustainability literacy and behavioral outcomes, and digital innovation. Surveys and case studies dominate research designs (37.7%), while experimental approaches represent only 4.0% of the corpus. Green skills and climate literacy remain conceptually peripheral despite their policy urgency, institutional collaboration is fragmented (20.3% of institutions isolated), and faculty populations are understudied (7.0%) relative to students (32.7%). Fifty-six knowledge gaps were identified across structural, declared, and emergent categories, with methods-by-concepts coverage reaching 64.0%. Conclusions The field would benefit from a methodological transition toward longitudinal and experimental designs, enhanced visibility of Global South scholarship (contextualizing database indexing constraints), systematic pedagogical theorization of simulation-based approaches, and deliberate cross-institutional consortia to transition from conceptual proliferation to evidence-based pedagogical science.
This article reviews the evidence base for a range of contemporary, student-centred curriculum design methodologies, including inquiry-based learning (IBL), problem-based learning (PBL), project-based learning (PjBL), challenge-based learning (CBL), place-based learning and competency-based education (CBE), and considers their applicability to the design of a contemporary undergraduate criminology degree. Drawing on systematic reviews, meta-analyses and recent empirical literature, the article evaluates the theoretical underpinnings, andragogical benefits and structural limitations of each approach. It situates these findings within the requirements of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education Subject Benchmark Statement for Criminology (QAA, 2022), which explicitly positions research and critical enquiry as foundational to the discipline and calls for curriculum designs that embed equality, diversity and inclusion, education for sustainable development, and professional partnership. The article argues that no single methodology is sufficient on its own and that a principled hybrid model, drawing selectively on the strengths of each approach, offers the most coherent and evidence-informed basis for criminology curriculum design. Implications for degree revalidation, staff development, assessment design and partnership are discussed.
The authenticity of Islamic Religious Education in elementary schools faces significant contemporary challenges, shifting from transformative character building toward mechanical cognitive memorization. This study aims to re-actualize the core principles of authentic moral learning through a mindful, meaningful, and joyful paradigm tailored for elementary school students. Using a literature study approach with critical-qualitative analysis, this research examines classical and contemporary pedagogical frameworks to synthesize an integrated moral education model. The findings indicate that mindful learning enhances students' self-awareness and spiritual presence, meaningful learning connects religious doctrines with daily life experiences, and joyful learning fosters intrinsic motivation and emotional well-being. Synthesizing these three elements restores the authenticity of IRE, transforming moral learning from rigid doctrinal instruction into a living, transformative spiritual and ethical experience.
Despite the integration of Earth Sciences into Moroccan secondary education, geology teaching faces multiple obstacles. This study provides a multi‑dimensional analysis of curricular, didactic, epistemological, linguistic, and ideological barriers. Using a mixed‑method design, we analysed official curricula (2007–2025), six textbooks, 47 articles, and surveyed 120 Life and Earth Sciences teachers. Results show that geology accounts for only 17% of total instructional time and is absent from three of seven major streams. 78% of teachers feel unprepared to teach geological time, 65% never use physical models, and only 12% of schools organise field trips. In French‑medium sections, 65% of students score below 50% on geology assessments (vs. 41% in Arabic sections). 72% of students confuse human and geological time scales. We propose evidence‑based remedies: curriculum restructuring (25% of LES time), mandatory field trips, physical modelling, ICT integration, and teacher training in conceptual change approaches.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the Russian Empire underwent reforms in theological and secular education. This article emphasizes the commonality of the administrative and substantive guidelines of these reforms. The reforms led to the streamlining and development of general education in theological parochial schools. During the reform process, the possibility of initial homeschooling for children, considered equivalent to lower theological education, and mechanisms for final examinations were legalized. The financial situation of parish theological schools was dire, which hindered their development.
Folk Development Colleges (FDCs) are intended to equip young people and adults with practical capabilities for productive work, yet little is known about graduates’ transition from training to self-employment. This study explored how vocational training, entrepreneurship education, and life-skills training were perceived to support graduates’ self-employment in two selected FDCs in Mtwara Region, Tanzania. Guided by Human Capital Theory, it used an interpretivist qualitative multiple-case design. Thirty-six participants were selected purposively: 24 graduates, 10 tutors, and two principals. Data were collected through two focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews, then analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Participants reported that vocational training developed practical competencies applied in tailoring, agriculture, poultry keeping, welding, food processing and other income-generating activities. Entrepreneurship education strengthened opportunity recognition, business planning, costing, marketing, record-keeping and financial management, while life-skills training supported communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, adaptability and confidence. Experiential learning connected the three training components. However, outdated or insufficient equipment, restricted finance and markets, weak mentorship and industry linkages, limited incubation support and incomplete graduate tracking constrained application. FDC programmes therefore provided complementary preparation for self-employment, but training alone could not ensure enterprise establishment or continuity. Modern resources, sustained practical learning, stronger enterprise-support linkages and systematic graduate tracking are required. As the evidence is context-specific and self-reported, the findings indicate perceived contributions rather than causal effects or verified long-term business sustainability.
This article analyzes the management of distance education (DE) in the context of continuing education for youth and adults (EPJA), exploring its institutional, pedagogical, and technical dimensions. Through an approach that compares empirical data, obtained from a jurisdictional survey with federal regulations and analyzes them through the lens of contemporary theoretical frameworks, the study examines how provinces operationalize the principles of flexibility and modularity. The results reveal significant heterogeneity in the implementation of teaching roles, technological supports, and assessment criteria. It is concluded that the quality of this modality depends on comprehensive management that ensures coherence between organizational and instructional decisions, thereby guaranteeing the continuity of participants' educational trajectories, through the pedagogical option of distance education, which is mediated and hosted in virtual learning environments (VLEs), designed specifically for the particular needs of adult learners.
Since independence in 1963, Kenya has pursued educational reforms intended to align schooling and training with its social, economic, and political development priorities. This study traces the evolution of these reforms from the Ominde Commission of 1964 to the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in 2017 and examines their relationship with national development. A qualitative document review was employed to analyze reform trajectories across primary, secondary, technical and vocational, university, and examination systems. The review also considered policies concerning free primary and secondary education, bursary and scholarship schemes, and gender affirmative action, focusing on their implications for access, equity, and educational quality. The findings indicate that successive reforms have consistently positioned education as a means of promoting national unity, preparing the workforce, and strengthening civic participation. These priorities reflect the role assigned to education in advancing social cohesion, economic productivity, and political development. However, the translation of policy commitments into practice has remained constrained by inadequate funding, limitations in teacher capacity, and insufficient infrastructure. These implementation gaps restrict the extent to which educational reforms can achieve their intended developmental outcomes. The analysis emphasizes the importance of examining policy design alongside the resources and institutional capacity required for implementation. Sustained investment in teacher preparation and professional development, educational infrastructure, and systematic monitoring is necessary to strengthen reform delivery. The study concludes that education can contribute more durably to national development when policy ambitions are supported by consistent investment and implementation capacity. Its historical and policy perspective provides a basis for policymakers and educational stakeholders to assess reform priorities and strengthen connections between educational change and Kenya’s development goals.
Abstract Do citizens need to grow up in a democracy to value it? We examine how school education – democratic or authoritarian – shapes long-term support for democracy. Leveraging a quasi-natural experiment in the former German Democratic Republic, where rigid school entry rules and abrupt reforms after reunification created exogenous variation in exposure to socialist schooling, we show that an additional year of such education significantly reduced democratic support in adulthood. To test generalizability, we analyze harmonized survey data from 106 countries alongside new expert-coded measures of educational content and state effort. The results reveal that democratic attitudes are shaped not only by the negative imprint of authoritarian schooling but crucially by the positive imprint of democratic civic education, especially when democracies invest heavily in it. Our findings demonstrate that democracy must be learned to be valued, underscoring the central role of education in democratic consolidation and resilience.
This article examines the process of developing the diagnostic and consultative competence of speech and language therapists. The issue is particularly relevant at the present stage of special education development in Ukraine, where competency-based approaches have become central to the professional preparation of future specialists. The study establishes that diagnostic and consultative competence begins to develop during pre-service professional training at higher education institutions and continues to evolve throughout a specialist's professional career. Furthermore, each type of professional activity is accompanied by corresponding emotional responses, which are considered important indicators of successful professional development. The study employed the following research methods: theoretical analysis and synthesis, a sociological survey (questionnaire), and mathematical methods for data processing. The concepts of phase, period, and stage are theoretically distinguished. Four stages in the development of a specialist's diagnostic and consultative competence are identified. Stage I marks the initial development of this competence during professional training. Stage II involves the foundational development of diagnostic and consultative competence in novice practitioners. Stage III is characterized by the formation of an individual professional style of diagnostic and consultative practice. Stage IV represents mastery in both speech and language therapy practice and diagnostic and consultative competence. The article describes the principal characteristics of professional activity and the corresponding changes in specialists' emotional responses throughout each period of every developmental stage. A sociological survey of speech and language therapists with varying lengths of professional experience was conducted to clarify the duration of the developmental periods for diagnostic and consultative competence, as well as the characteristics of their professional activities and the associated emotional states. Physicians with different levels of professional experience also participated in the survey, as diagnostic and consultative competence is similarly essential in medical practice. A pilot study based on interviews with 18 respondents demonstrated that the development of diagnostic and consultative competence follows a sequence of stages throughout the professional careers of speech and language therapists. Each stage encompasses different forms of both cognitive and professional speech therapy activities. The study also describes changes in specialists' emotional responses—from unpleasant emotions to positive feelings of enthusiasm, satisfaction, and psychological comfort—that accompany different types of professional activity at each stage of the development of diagnostic and consultative competence.
Context and relevance. The study investigates the contributions of Lev Vygotsky's cultural-historical theory to Brazilian special/inclusive education, particularly regarding the constitution of the subject with autism in school contexts. The theoretical framework is grounded in the concepts of drama, freedom and singularity, understanding the schooling process as a privileged pathway of human (trans)formation. Objective. To analyse how pedagogical knowledge impacts the constitution of the child with autism, based on the notion of constitutive singularity. Hypothesis. The schooling process anchored in critical-emancipatory pedagogical knowledge operates as a promoter of the subject's humanisation, in opposition to traditional clinical approaches that reduce the subject to diagnosis and to ableist perspectives that position them in a state of devaluation. Methods and materials. The research, adopting a cultural-historical approach, was configured as intervention-research with an eight-year-old student with autism, enrolled in the second year of primary education. Video recordings, audio recordings, photographs, field diaries and interviews with the teacher, the child and his mother were utilised. Data were analysed through the microgenetic approach. Results. The analysis of two paradigmatic episodes of story retelling through illustration and physical education class evidences that the child, upon inserting personal elements into school tasks, manifests his will and singularises himself, expressing the drama of the social personality as a struggle for existence. Conclusions. Understanding singularity as a dialectical, historical, cultural and dramatic process allows us to overcome pathologising views and to recognise that disability is not a destiny, but a condition that, in relations with others and with culture, can be transformed into potentiality.
This study aims to analyze the epistemology of aqidah education constructed by KH. Muhammad Faqih Maskumambang in An-Nushus al-Islamiyyah fi Radd ‘ala Madhhab al-Wahhabiyyah, particularly in establishing the relationship between textual authority, rational reasoning, and the scholarly tradition of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This qualitative study employs a library research method and content analysis of An-Nushus al-Islamiyyah as the primary source, complemented by relevant academic literature as secondary sources. The analysis applies the Islamic epistemological framework of bayani, burhani, and irfani, conceptually distinguishing scholarly authority based on sanad and ijma’ from irfani as the internalization of ethical and spiritual values. The findings demonstrate that KH. Muhammad Faqih’s epistemology of aqidah education is integrative, with bayani authority serving as its primary foundation, reinforced by burhani reasoning and the continuity of the salaf scholarly tradition. The dialogical and argumentative methods employed in the treatise also reveal pedagogical potential for fostering a moderate understanding of aqidah. The novelty of this study lies in reinterpreting An-Nushus al-Islamiyyah not merely as a theological polemical work, but as an epistemological construction of aqidah education integrating textual, rational, and traditional spiritual dimensions
Early childhood education is a crucial stage in preparing children to face further levels of schooling. One important aspect to be developed is naturalistic intelligence, which refers to the ability to recognize, differentiate, and appreciate the natural environment. This study aims to explore how teachers can enhance the naturalistic intelligence of children aged 5–6 years at Al Falah Islamic Kindergarten, Limbur Tembesi, Bathin VIII District, Sarolangun Regency through the use of natural materials. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that teachers play a central role in designing lesson plans semester programs, weekly lesson plans, and daily lesson plans that incorporate natural materials as learning media. Teachers also prepare items such as seeds, soil, stones, and vegetables, while instilling habits of caring for plants and maintaining cleanliness in the school environment. In conclusion, the structured and consistent use of natural materials fosters children’s naturalistic intelligence and nurtures environmental awareness from an early age.
We examine whether a top-up school grant for Ethiopia's emerging regions, introduced under GEQIP-E in 2018/19, narrowed mathematics learning gaps. Difference-in-differences estimates using Grade 4 data from the RISE Ethiopia survey (2018/19–2021/22) show relative gains of 0.42–0.52 standard deviations, largest among rural and poorer children. Results hold with regional controls, gain scores, school-level models and school fixed effects, but shrink under region-specific trends. About half of each gain reflects emerging regions avoiding a post-2018 decline elsewhere, so the estimates are upper bounds for the top-up alone. School leadership, community participation and teacher knowledge appear to be key channels.
In the training of accounting professionals, the integration of ideological and political education and employment education is an important way to implement the fundamental task of moral education and enhance students' professional competence. However, there are still some outstanding problems in the process of integration, such as the separation of objectives, the disconnection of content and the lack of coordination between subjects, which restrict the training effect of the comprehensive quality of accounting talents. From the four dimensions of system design, concept cognition, resource allocation and operation mechanism, the causes of the problems are analyzed. Finally, the countermeasures and suggestions corresponding to each cause are put forward : improving the integration system and evaluation system, reshaping the concept of collaborative education, optimizing the allocation of teachers and platform resources, and improving the normal linkage operation mechanism. The purpose of this study is to provide an operable practical reference for the accounting profession to construct an educational model of deep integration of ideological and political education and employment education.
Background Assessing dance performance in physical education teacher education (PETE) requires judges to integrate technical and aesthetic qualities. Analytic rubrics make relevant dimensions explicit, whereas Adaptive Comparative Judgment (ACJ) elicits holistic pairwise decisions and produces a relative performance scale. This study compared the outcomes and student perceptions associated with the two approaches. Methods Seventeen pre-service teachers assessed 46 video-recorded student dance performances using an analytic rubric and ACJ. An expert reference was derived from five PETE lecturers who had assessed the performances live using the rubric and subsequently evaluated the video recordings through ACJ. Analyses examined rubric reliability and ACJ precision, convergence between method-derived rankings, student–expert rank alignment, cross-condition rubric score differences, and students’ perceptions of ease of use, usefulness, transparency, and fairness. Results Rubric- and ACJ-derived rankings were strongly associated within the student panel (Spearman's ρ = .863) and the expert reference panel ( ρ = .879). Aggregated student rankings also aligned closely with the expert-reference rankings under rubric scoring ( ρ = .890) and ACJ ( ρ = .888), with no clear difference in alignment between the methods. Aggregated student rubric scores showed high reliability, ICC(2,17) = .955, while ACJ scale separation reliability was .780 for students and .836 for experts. Student video-based rubric scores were, on average, 0.77 points higher than the archived live expert consensus scores. Students perceived ACJ as easier to use but the analytic rubric as more transparent. Perceived usefulness did not differ clearly, while fairness ratings descriptively favored the rubric. Conclusion Analytic rubric scoring and ACJ produced strongly convergent aggregate rankings, and the aggregated student panel differentiated relative performance quality in ways closely aligned with the expert reference under both approaches. However, the methods differed in score interpretation and perceived transparency. The results support considering ACJ as a complementary approach for digitally supported assessment and moderation rather than as a direct replacement for criterion-based summative assessment.
Academic achievement in higher education is associated not only with individual and instructional factors but also with students' social environment. However, evidence on peer environments among Social Studies Education students in Indonesia remains limited, particularly regarding how peer interactions are experienced in academic contexts. This study examines the relationship between peer environment and academic achievement among pre-service Social Studies teachers at the Social Studies Education Study Program, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was used. The quantitative phase involved 220 students from a population of 488 students in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts and was analyzed using PLS-SEM. The qualitative phase involved semi-structured interviews with 15 students selected purposively from the quantitative phase. The quantitative results indicated a positive and statistically significant association between peer environment and academic achievement (β = 0.145; t = 2.123; p = 0.034), although the effect size was small (f² = 0.014) and the model explained 1.5% of the variance in academic achievement (R² = 0.015). The qualitative findings identified four themes: academic behavior modeling, socio-academic support, group learning norms, and positive competitive drive. Together, the findings suggest that peer environment is a contextual factor associated with academic achievement through students' academic behaviors and interactions, rather than a dominant determinant of GPA. The study extends the application of Peer Influence Theory to pre-service Social Studies teacher education by highlighting the academic orientation and quality of peer interactions.
In early school life, starting in Early Childhood Education, it is necessary to work with texts that circulate socially in a child's everyday life. Children's contact with reading materials must be constant to foster a love for reading, turning it into a habit rather than an sporadic occurrence. Children's Literature, when used appropriately, is an essential tool in constructing the learner's knowledge, helping them engage with the world of reading not only as an act of meaningful learning, but also as an enjoyable activity. Therefore, this article is the result of a bibliographical and documentary research project aimed at analyzing the pedagogical knowledge and procedures of teachers regarding playfulness in Early Childhood Education through literary genres, in accordance with the National Curriculum Guidelines for Early Childhood Education (RCNEI). In light of this, we conclude that it is of paramount importance to work with various literary genres in Early Childhood Education, as it contributes to the child's overall development, especially in shaping their personality, developing their capacity for observation and reflection on oral and written language, and expanding their vocabulary and linguistic knowledge. In this context, the commitment of early childhood educators is fundamental to transforming education and fostering child development.
This study aims to develop an integrative conceptual model that connects student development management and Islamic Guidance and Counseling (Bimbingan dan Konseling Islam/BKI) within the framework of holistic student development in Islamic education. The study employs an integrative conceptual literature review to identify, examine, and synthesize relevant theoretical and conceptual perspectives. Literature was searched through Google Scholar, Garuda, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) during January–July 2026. From an initial 312 records, successive stages of duplicate removal, relevance screening, and full-text assessment resulted in a final corpus of 58 sources. The literature was analyzed through data extraction, initial coding, thematic categorization, cross-source comparison, and conceptual synthesis. The literature synthesis indicates conceptual convergence around the importance of integrating students’ spiritual, moral, psychological, and personal development within Islamic education. Based on this synthesis, the study proposes an integrative conceptual model comprising four interconnected components: fitrah as the philosophical and anthropological foundation of human potential; holistic Islamic education as the overarching developmental orientation; student development management as the institutional framework for planning, coordinating, and evaluating student development; and Islamic Guidance and Counseling as the professional support mechanism for identifying students’ needs and facilitating preventive, responsive, and developmental interventions. Functionally, fitrah establishes the foundational understanding of human potential, holistic Islamic education defines the developmental direction, student development management translates this orientation into coordinated institutional practices, and Islamic Guidance and Counseling provides individualized and group-based support within appropriate professional boundaries. These components operate as a mutually reinforcing framework for integrating educational planning, student support, and holistic development. The study concludes that this model offers a coherent conceptual basis for understanding student development in Islamic education, while its practical applicability and effectiveness require further empirical examination.
Parental education is one of the most visible predictors of children's socio-emotional and academic trajectories, though its influence on their school adjustment and mathematical reasoning is rarely examined together. This review is intended to synthesize theoretical and empirical literature about how parental education level influences adaptation of children at school and their mathematical thinking. There are several pathways through which parental education influences their children's academic behaviour, home environment stimulation for mathematical tasks, and educational expectations. Literature evidence shows that higher parental education is associated with richer home numeracy and literacy environments. More homework involvement, and smooth behavioural and emotional adjustment to school are also positively correlated to higher parental education, whereas lower parental education is associated with socioeconomic disadvantage and lack of access to resources for their children both at home and school. The review is particularly focussed in Indian context covering the National Education Policy 2020 and its emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy, implications of parental involvement , teacher practices, and policy interventions.
With the continuous advancement of the construction of a national lifelong learning system and the deepening reform of the modern vocational education system, exploring the internal and external driving factors underlying the high-quality development of higher vocational colleges in border regions can effectively address several prominent challenges faced by northern higher vocational institutions, including insufficient connotative development in relation to construction requirements, inadequate motivation for autonomous learning among teachers and students, and difficulties in adapting lifelong education services to the needs of regional industries. Therefore, this research has significant practical implications.Drawing on self-efficacy theory and lifelong education theory, this study clarifies the transmission mechanisms among variables and constructs a theoretical model centered on lifelong education driving factors, teachers’ and students’ self-efficacy, and the high-quality development of higher vocational colleges. The study conducted a survey among 14 public higher vocational colleges in Heilongjiang Province, collecting 628 valid teacher questionnaires and 864 valid student questionnaires. Empirical analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0 and the PROCESS macro, including reliability and validity tests, correlation analysis, and Bootstrap tests of mediating effects. The empirical results reveal several key findings. First, four driving factors associated with lifelong education—digital learning resource provision, the implementation of industry–education integration, the cultivation of a lifelong learning-oriented campus environment, and modern institutional governance—can all positively promote the high-quality development of higher vocational colleges. Second, these four types of factors significantly enhance the self-efficacy levels of both teachers and students. Finally, teachers’ and students’ self-efficacy plays a mediating role in this process: various lifelong education-related factors not only directly improve the quality of institutional development but also indirectly facilitate the connotative development of colleges by strengthening teachers’ and students’ confidence in learning and career development.Based on the practical context of higher vocational education in Heilongjiang Province, this study enriches the theoretical framework concerning institutional development from the perspective of lifelong education and provides two practical implications for higher vocational colleges in northern border regions. Higher vocational institutions should not only align their educational practices with local industrial characteristics but also focus on stimulating the subjective initiative of teachers and students, thereby establishing a sustainable and stable model of high-quality development.
This community service initiative aims to provide a platform for students to actualize their religious potential and to strengthen their religious literacy and character through an Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Performance. The activity employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, encompassing planning, action, and reflection (evaluation). It was held from September 10–16, 2026, at the Ki Hajar Dewantara Building in Aikmel District, East Lombok, involving 32 elementary schools and 143 students comprising 65 speech contestants, 44 Quran recitation participants, and 34 PAI Olympiad competitors. The results indicate that the three competition categories provided avenues for demonstrating religious capabilities through communication, Quranic recitation skills, and mastery of PAI knowledge. The event also fostered traits such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, perseverance, adherence to rules, and sportsmanship through the experience of competition. Future initiatives should focus on sustained guidance and systematic evaluation to measure the development of students' religious literacy and character in a more targeted and continuous manner.
Creativity is a core competency within Kenya’s Competency-Based Education framework, and Integrated Science offers opportunities for learners to investigate, collaborate, experiment, and apply scientific knowledge. However, limited context-specific evidence exists on how teachers combine instructional strategies to foster creativity in Junior School Integrated Science. This study assessed variations in teachers’ combined use of inquiry-based, collaborative, experiential and hands-on, and technology-enhanced strategies in public Junior Schools in Ainabkoi Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. Guided by Piaget’s Cognitive Constructivist Theory, it adopted a pragmatic worldview and convergent parallel mixed-methods design. Questionnaires were completed by 81 Integrated Science teachers, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 Lead Integrated Science Teachers. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Collaborative learning recorded the highest use (M = 4.06, SD = 0.65), followed by inquiry-based learning (M = 3.94, SD = 0.66), experiential/hands-on learning (M = 3.54, SD = 0.53), and technology-enhanced instruction (M = 2.92, SD = 0.37). HCA yielded three exploratory profiles distinguished by relative emphasis on technology, inquiry and experiential learning, and collaboration. Interviews indicated that teachers adapted strategy combinations to lesson demands, resources, time, class size, and preparation requirements. The findings show variation in teachers’ reported practices, supporting differentiated professional development and improved access to practical and digital resources. Learner creativity was not directly measured.
The development of artificial intelligence in education opens up opportunities to support learning while also raising ethical issues related to academic integrity and students’ digital responsibility. This article aims to analyze the role of character education as a foundation for guiding the use of artificial intelligence in relation to these two aspects. The study employs a literature review using a descriptive-qualitative approach. The findings indicate that the values of ṣidq and amanah provide a conceptual foundation for transparency in AI use, recognition of intellectual contributions, adherence to assignment guidelines, and accountability for learning processes and outcomes. Meanwhile, the values of tabayyun, respect for others, and a focus on the common good underpin digital responsibility in the form of information verification, privacy protection, respect for intellectual property, and consideration of the social impacts of AI use. Strengthening these two aspects requires educators to lead by example, clear institutional guidelines, family support, and reflective learning grounded in ethical dilemmas. This article concludes that the integration of character education and AI literacy should be directed toward developing students who are proficient in using technology while also being able to make decisions honestly and responsibly. The resulting conceptual framework still requires empirical testing according to educational levels and contexts.
Introduction Translating complex research into public and K-12 curricula comprises a significant component of science education and outreach. This paper examines the topics and experiences that are the focus of marine science education outreach. Methods Surveys were administered to marine science institutions (25 institutions responded) and undergraduate students (290 students responded). Results Institutional data from 25 organizations showed that 88% of respondents target 3rd–5th grade but only 68% reported serving PreK–2nd grade. Findings show 58% of STEM major respondents to the undergraduate survey identified elementary as their earliest exposure. For the STEM major respondents, 7% of respondents identify PreK, 18% identify middle school, 16% identify high school, and 2% as NA. Discussion Findings highlight the prevalence of early recalled science experiences among surveyed undergraduates and differences in the grade levels served by participating marine science outreach institutions. Expanding opportunities for PreK–2nd grade ocean education may help institutions engage younger audiences and support the development of ocean literacy. Further research using larger, more representative samples is needed to investigate relationships between early science education and later academic interests.
Abstract This study examines whether and how RME can be performed as an epistemic object to broaden business schools’ education on climate change. The research builds on a qualitative case study involving 10 Finnish business schools. The analysis reveals that RME is performed as both an epistemic object and a boundary object, with different implications for its embeddedness within institutions. Our findings show how accreditations have introduced RME as a boundary object enforcing performativity around sustainability themes yet enabling disciplines to maintain their distinct or limited roles. At the same time, RME is met with both resistance and compliance, depending on how well the object fits with disciplinary boundaries and career trajectories. Lastly, as an epistemic object, RME encourages co‐reflexivity, which is essential for climate‐proofing business schools. We discuss the possibilities of a hybrid orientation of RME as both a boundary object and an epistemic object for enforcing climate‐orientation in management education.
The traditional culture is an old type of culture with distinctive features of ethnicity which was created and evolved through a prolonged historical process of the Chinese nation. The splendid traditional culture of China reflects the indomitable spirit of self-improvement of the Chinese nation and the endless spiritual wealth of the Chinese people, and represents the common values of the Chinese people. This contains countless positive value concepts, philosophical feelings, modes of thinking, ritual systems, codes of conduct, and lifestyle practices, which will offer theoretical direction and spiritual guidance towards developing healthy ideological and moral character as well as instilling in the youth of the new era the core socialist values. General Secretary Xi Jinping has constantly stressed the importance of curriculum and textbooks playing their part in building a strong foundation and building up the spirit, as well as in brightening up minds and increasing wisdom; they should be the style of China and Chinese nation, and the result of the accumulation of knowledge on human cultural heritage and the outcome of innovations in this field. Hence, the incorporation of traditional culture education in primary, secondary, and higher education will greatly contribute to the successful realization of the mission of fostering virtue and nurturing talent in all schools.
The Trump administration is using all the levers of executive power to intervene in universities, including multimillion-dollar cuts, investigations into federal regulation violations, visa withdrawals for international students, and ideological pressures. The outcome of this fight over the purpose of higher education could shape the sector for decades. This reflection essay argues that these attacks have been facilitated by a decade-long loss of public trust in higher education. It addresses two main questions: Why have colleges and universities lost the support of society, and what should they do to restore public trust? The essay argues that this loss of support is driven primarily by rising costs, perceived ideological bias, and questions about degree value. By situating these discussions within scholarship on polarization, populist backlash, and the “diploma divide,” this essay moves beyond causes to explore sector-specific solutions. These include improving educational access, redefining political messaging, demonstrating nonpartisanship, supporting their communities, redefining diversity to include social class, and bridging the cultural divide to protect the university as a democratic institution.
This study aims to examine research trends and synthesize key findings related to the implementation of outdoor learning in science education through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The literature search was conducted using the Scopus database and focused on publications published between 2021 and 2025. The initial search retrieved 197 records, which were subsequently screened in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 12 studies being selected for further analysis. Based on the descriptive mapping and synthesis of the selected studies, the findings suggest that outdoor learning may enhance students' conceptual understanding, engagement, learning motivation, and several aspects of thinking skills, although direct evidence regarding critical thinking remains limited. The reviewed studies suggest that outdoor learning may support conceptual understanding, engagement, motivation, and some aspects of thinking skills, although direct evidence on critical thinking remains relatively limited. Mixed methods emerged as the most frequently used research approach, followed by qualitative and quantitative methods. The review further identifies underexplored areas, particularly technology integration and the implementation of outdoor learning across diverse educational contexts, highlighting important opportunities for future research.
This study aims to explore and analyze effective learning strategies for gifted and talented students in elementary schools. Using a systematic literature review, it identifies the distinctive needs of gifted students and examines appropriate strategies, including curriculum enrichment, curriculum compacting, and acceleration. The findings indicate that gifted students need more challenging and targeted approaches to help them reach their full potential. Dynamic and relevant curriculum development, together with professional teacher training, is essential to creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment. Educational policies should therefore be more responsive to the needs of gifted students.

Blended learning (BL) has become increasingly established in higher education, yet research has focused more on effectiveness, engagement, and learning regulation than on how face-to-face and online learning jointly facilitate value internalization. In Pancasila Education, this issue matters because learning outcomes extend beyond knowledge of values to students’ decision-making and relationships. This exploratory qualitative study analyzed open-ended questionnaire responses from 67 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia students using directed qualitative content analysis, complemented by a contextual review of learning materials and activities available through SPOT UPI. The findings reveal four patterns. First, students perceived face-to-face learning primarily as a relational space for dialogue, clarification, deliberation, and collaboration. At the same time, online learning served mainly as a regulatory space for flexibility, access to materials, time management, and independence. These functions complemented each other but were not exclusive. Second, value internalization became visible when Pancasila shifted from content to be understood into a basis for decision-making, respect for differences, rule compliance, and responsibility. Third, good character was associated with relational pathways toward justice and collaboration and self-regulatory pathways toward discipline, responsibility, and work ethic. Social support, digital culture, and LMS reliability influenced these processes. Fourth, discrepancies between ideal values and reality triggered moral reflection for some students, described as productive moral dissonance. The study interprets BL as an architecture of relational-regulatory functions and suggests connecting social interaction, self-regulation, authentic cases, reflection, process assessment, and reliable digital infrastructure in Pancasila Education. Keywords: Pancasila education, Value internalization, Blended learning; Good character; Higher education
This study aimed to develop and examine the validity, practicality, and preliminary effectiveness of the Outcome-Based Authentic Learning Model (OBALM) for strengthening the professional competence of prospective vocational educators. This Research and Development (R&D) study employed the ADDIE model and involved 54 third-semester students of the Vocational Makeup Education Study Program at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Padangpanjang. Data were collected through expert validation, implementation observations, student responses, and a professional performance rubric, and were analyzed using Aiken’s V, percentage scores, N-gain, and inferential statistics. OBALM comprises six stages: Authentic Problem Orientation, Problem Analysis, Strategy Design, Implementation, Feedback, and Reflection. Expert validation yielded an Aiken’s V of 0.89, indicating high content validity, while the overall practicality score was 85.0%. Students’ mean professional competence score increased from 62.18 to 82.94, with an N-gain of 0.55. The pretest–posttest difference was statistically significant, t(53) = 13.44, p < .001, with a very large effect size (Cohen’s dz = 1.83). Improvements were observed across the seven targeted professional competence dimensions. These findings provide initial empirical support for OBALM as a structured learning approach that integrates outcome-based learning, authentic problems, practical performance, feedback, and reflection in vocational higher education. Keywords: outcome-based education, authentic learning, professional competence, vocational education, instructional model.
Family-school engagement is key to holistic development and educational equity in early childhood. This study proposes and empirically evaluates a hierarchical model of engagement, composed of five dimensions: communication-participation, trust-inclusion, learning support, institutional resources, and digital mediation. The objective was to analyze the relationships between these dimensions from a dual perspective (families and teachers) in early childhood education contexts. Participants included 299 teachers and 308 family members from urban early childhood institutions, who completed a validated Likert-type questionnaire. A cross-sectional quantitative design was applied, employing descriptive analyses, internal consistency estimation (Cronbach's alpha), interdimensional correlations, and hierarchical modeling. The findings revealed: (a) high internal consistency across all dimensions (α ≥ .90), (b) strong correlations between dimensions within each group, (c) a more cohesive perceptual pattern in families, and (d) a greater weight of relational dimensions in the hierarchical model. This study provides empirical evidence and a robust theoretical framework for evaluating engagement in an integrated manner. Its distinctive value lies in offering a useful tool for institutional assessments, pedagogical decisions, and public policies aimed at improving communication, cultural inclusion, and digital equity in early childhood education settings
Ecuadorian higher education policy combines the constitutional recognition of education as a right with admission rules that allocate scarce quotas through academic background, evaluations, and affirmative action measures. The objective of this article is to determine under what conditions meritocratic admission fulfills a legitimate allocative function and under which it becomes a judgment about the intellectual value of the applicants. A conceptual analysis is employed: Jacques Rancière's concepts of explanatory order, dumbness, intellectual emancipation, and equality of intelligences are placed in dialogue with meritocracy research, with the current regulatory framework, and with the available evidence on unequal access in Ecuador. The analysis distinguishes three propositions that are often confused: that applicants differ in their demonstrated preparation, that institutions should assign limited quotas, and that the resulting ordering reveals unequal intelligences. Only the first two are necessary to admit; the third is an inference that the framework allows to be questioned. Four conditions are specified: semantic totalization, interpretative monopoly, temporal fixation, and public circulation of the verdict under which an assignative procedure becomes part of an explanatory order, and it is shown that they are separable from assignment and therefore institutionally modifiable. Five rights-oriented design principles are proposed, with their stated foundation. It is concluded that a defensible alternative is not selection without standards, but selection that limits the meaning attributed to its instruments and identifies testable directions for future empirical research.
This qualitative descriptive study examined the perspectives of teachers with direct experience implementing the push-in model in general education classrooms in selected schools in Nevada, California, Arizona, and New Mexico, United States. It explored perceived educational value, implementation challenges, collaborative practices, professional roles, and opportunities for growth, and used the findings to formulate the Collaborative Push-In Enhancement Program (C-PEP). Participants were purposively selected from teachers experienced in push-in delivery or collaboration; the methodology described 11 co-participants, although another part of the dissertation reports a different sample count. Semi-structured interview accounts were examined using the six-phase thematic-analysis approach described in the dissertation. Five overarching themes were developed: push-in as inclusive and collaborative support for diverse learners; navigation of instructional, structural, and relational challenges; collaboration as the foundation of effective implementation; evolving instructional roles and complementary push-in/pull-out functions; and professional growth with holistic student development. Participants described greater classroom participation, confidence, access to grade-level teaching, and belonging, while emphasizing constrained planning time, scheduling, resources, and ambiguous teacher roles. The proposed C-PEP integrates differentiated instruction, problem-solving, co-planning, role clarification, mentoring, learner monitoring, and sustainability measures. Findings concern teachers’ reported experiences rather than independently measured student outcomes. The study highlights how inclusive practice depends on both responsive instruction and organizational support.
The purpose of this study is to determine pre-service early childhood teachers’ views and perceived competency levels regarding neurolinguistic-based science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) applications in phonemic skills instruction, and to examine whether these perceptions differ significantly according to demographic (gender, age, and grade level) and professional/experiential (having received phonemic awareness training, STEAM experience, and familiarity with the concept of neurolinguistic programming [NLP]) variables. Adopting a descriptive survey design, one of the quantitative research methods, the study group consisted of 179 pre-service teachers enrolled in an early childhood education undergraduate program at one university in Kazakhstan. The research data were collected through a demographic information form, a structured views questionnaire, and a data collection tool measuring pre-service teachers’ perceived competency. The findings show that participants’ overall perceived competency was high. However, 36.9% of participants regarded phonemic awareness as a naturally developing process and 31.3% viewed STEAM as unrelated to language skills, which may indicate conceptual gaps; and although 41.9% stated that the art component made phoneme discrimination more concrete, 53.6% considered art either unrelated to phonemic awareness or merely entertaining. Perceived competency did not differ significantly by gender or age, whereas third-year pre-service teachers reported lower perceived competency than first- and second-year students; a “reality shock” after practicum is a possible but untested explanation, as practicum was not measured. In addition, pre-service teachers who had previously received phonemic awareness training, who had STEAM experience, and who were familiar with the concept of NLP reported significantly higher perceived competency. The findings suggest that teacher educators may consider adding applied, STEAM-integrated phonemic awareness modules supported by microteaching, including a critical examination of the evidence on NLP and learning-styles claims. The findings are limited by self-report data and a single-university convenience sample.
This study aims to analyze the integration of social reconstruction and technological models in the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum as an effort to balance the intellectual tradition of Islam with the demands of social change and technological development. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data were obtained from relevant scholarly literature, including journal articles, books, and academic documents addressing curriculum development, social reconstruction models, technological models, and Islamic education. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically by comparing the characteristics, orientations, strengths, and limitations of both models to formulate an appropriate integration framework for PAI curriculum development. The findings indicate that the social reconstruction model provides a foundation for the PAI curriculum to respond to social issues, develop critical awareness, and promote social transformation, while the technological model strengthens instructional systems through competency-oriented learning, technology utilization, and measurable evaluation. Integrating the two models produces a PAI curriculum framework that remains rooted in Islamic intellectual traditions while being adaptive to social change, technological developments, and students’ needs. Thus, their integration can serve as a strategic alternative for developing a relevant, contextual, and socially transformative PAI curriculum.
The purpose of this study is to give an overview of the evolution of digital learning paradigms, its implementation in Indian institutions and the challenges and opportunities which it provides. The review also seeks to identify gaps in the current research that can be used to direct future empirical and theoretical research. The study adopts a systematic literature review methodology to explore the academic literature on the topic of online education and digital learning paradigm in India. Secondary data sources such as peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, government reports, policy documents and institutional publications were referred for the exhaustive review of literature. The search strings and keywords used were in various combinations such as online education, digital learning, distance education, e-learning, MOOCs, SWAYAM, OER and ICT in education and e-learning in Indian higher education. Only English-language publications that had an Indian focus were considered. To ensure comprehensive coverage, conceptual, empirical and review studies were included. The literature was broken down into themes and the following main categories were identified: distance learning, online education models, digital learning technologies, OER initiatives and national educational platforms. This systematic synthesis enables the structured understanding of the developments, trends and research gaps in the field. It is evident in the literature that low completion rates, lack of multilingual content, digital divide issues as well as a lack of learner engagement and mentoring, are still issues. However, the platforms are crucial for lifelong learning and skill development.
Addressing the structural imbalance in smart tourism course teaching—characterized by "emphasizing technical principles while neglecting value guidance, and prioritizing case introductions over critical thinking and character cultivation"—this study takes the ideological and political education (IPE) reform of the course "Introduction to Smart Tourism" as its vehicle to construct a "dual-integration driven" teaching model. This model is driven by two wheels: interdisciplinary integration and industry-education integration. It systematically excavates the IPE elements embedded in the course, including cultural confidence, ecological protection, rural revitalization, red heritage, technological self-reliance, and data ethics. By building a full-chain IPE implementation system of "theoretical immersion—case discussion—project practice—evaluation feedback," and relying on a localized typical case database and a government-enterprise-university collaborative education platform, the model enables students to advance from "technical cognition" to "value internalization" and further to "professional practice." A three-year teaching practice shows that this model effectively enhances students' cultural identity, technological ethics awareness, and cross-cultural narrative ability, providing a replicable practical paradigm for similar universities to carry out IPE construction in smart tourism courses.
This study designed and validated a Technology-Enhanced Inquiry-Based Learning Package (TIBLEP) for junior secondary natural science in a resource-constrained context, addressing the offline connectivity barriers common in under-resourced schools. A Design and Development Research (DDR) approach guided needs analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, and field implementation. TIBLEP was built as an offline environment combining curriculum-aligned content, guided inquiry, multimedia demonstrations, self-paced navigation, and formative feedback. Five experts assessed the package across six dimensions. Sixty Grade 8 students from two intact classes then completed a five-week field trial (30 in the TIBLEP group and 30 in the conventional group), with interviews capturing participant experiences. Expert ratings were consistently positive (grand mean = 3.69, SD = 0.29), with the highest ratings for overall suitability (M = 3.78) and the lowest for technology integration (M = 3.60). Posttest achievement was higher for TIBLEP (M = 68.30, SD = 6.20) than for the control group (M = 54.70, SD = 5.80). Interviews indicated perceived gains in conceptual clarity, autonomy, engagement, collaboration, and teachers' technological competence. TIBLEP is a feasible, expert-validated offline model for inquiry-oriented science learning where connectivity is unreliable and access remains uneven. The package offers teachers and policymakers a validated, curriculum-aligned tool for delivering inquiry-based science instruction without depending on internet access.
The University of South Africa (UNISA) is the largest higher education institution (HEI) in Africa. In fact, UNISA is one of the largest and leading open-distance e-learning (ODeL) institutions in the world and is reputable for its commitment to providing increased access to quality education and flexible teaching. Therefore, UNISA presents a unique context for exploring teacher education through flexible learning. To this end, the current research was conducted between February and May of 2025 and explored the role of flexible learning in teacher education at an influential model in the Global South. The rationale for this research was grounded in the need to address educational challenges in Africa through innovative teaching methods. Employing systematic document analysis and governed by the principles of grounded theory in the collection and analysis of data, this study aimed to explore UNISA’s provision of flexible teacher education. The findings revealed that flexible teacher education in Africa is a necessity and a complex undertaking. It is shaped by demographic pressures, economic constraints, historical inequalities, and crisis events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Flexible learning expands access, reduces costs, and offers opportunities for curriculum transformation. Its effectiveness, however, is constrained by systemic challenges, including digital inequalities, resistance to pedagogical change, and limitations in institutional capacity. A key contribution of this research is the development of an emerging theory that reveals that flexible education is a balancing act between expanding access and maintaining quality.
This paper presents an educational framework developed to promote the values and skills that business students require to successfully navigate the ethical and environmental challenges in the current digital era. The work focuses on the development of green skills and responsible digital behaviour in business students through innovative and interdisciplinary learning that integrates sustainability principles with digital citizenship. Drawing on a narrative exploration of the literature on digital citizenship, sustainability education, and gamified learning, the paper proposes three educational activities based on playful learning, gamification, business games, and project-based learning. Each activity is based on instructional techniques that promote civic engagement, critical thinking, and reflection about the future social and environmental responsibilities of business managers. By placing business education within the framework of sustainability and digital citizenship, this paper offers teachers and instructors a hands-on approach for developing future graduates who are socially conscious of the impact of their decisions. Rather than presenting empirical findings, the paper provides a conceptual and practice-oriented framework for designing sustainability-oriented and digitally responsible learning experiences in business education.
Introduction Computer teachers are widely recognized as key drivers of digital transformation in education, given their central role in integrating technology into teaching and learning processes. Their position places them at the forefront of adopting and modeling innovative pedagogical approaches and associated technologies—such as gamification—to support sustainable integration within schools. Methods The study aimed to identify the extent of gamification adoption among computer teachers in Jordan; to do so, a descriptive approach was used. The study instrument was a questionnaire that had items measuring computer teachers' familiarity with gamification, attitudes toward gamification, employment of gamification, and the obstacles to employing gamification. The participants were 104 computer teachers from one governorate in Jordan. Results Results indicated that computer teachers had high familiarity with gamification and positive attitudes toward gamification, reflecting strong conceptual acceptance, whereas their reported classroom use was moderate. Teachers tended to rely on basic elements such as points and rewards rather than advanced strategies, indicating surface-level application. Additionally, familiarity with gamification was not comprehensive, with a stronger understanding of general concepts than specific tools. Perceived obstacles were moderate, with administrative and institutional factors identified as the most influential barriers. Discussion The study recommends strengthening institutional support and providing targeted training to enable effective and sustained implementation of gamification in practice.
Bullying is a problem in educational settings associated with students’ psychological conditions and learning processes. However, research on the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Education at the junior high school level, particularly at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat, remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in PAI and Character Education. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design involving 45 eighth-grade students at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and Pearson’s product–moment correlation with IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning (r = .531; p < .001), with a moderately strong correlation. Based on the instrument’s scoring system, this relationship was interpreted as indicating that lower levels of bullying were associated with greater interest in learning. These findings contribute to the empirical evidence on the association between bullying and interest in learning in PAI and Character Education and underscore the importance of a safe and comfortable learning environment. The practical implication is that schools need to address bullying prevention as part of their efforts to support students’ interest in learning. Future research should involve a broader sample, examine a wider range of variables, and employ more comprehensive data collection methods.
The present study addresses the theme of Inclusive Education, ensuring access, permanence, and the development of students with specific educational needs within the school environment, while recognizing their differences and potential. In this context, the role of Multifunctional Resource Rooms and Specialized Educational Assistance (SEA) in supporting students with Giftedness/Talentedness (G/T) is highlighted. The objective is to analyze the importance of resource rooms and specialized educational assistance in the holistic development of students with giftedness/talentedness. The research was carried out through a bibliographic review, based on authors who discuss inclusive education and policies for serving students with G/T, such as Mantoan (2003), Virgolim (2014), Gama (2013), Vieira (2020), Piske (2013), among others, these authors reported legal and pedagogical advances that have paved the way for inclusive education for students with giftedness/talentedness in Brazil. However, challenges related to teacher training, infrastructure, and the implementation of public policies still persist. The inclusion of students with specific educational needs—particularly those with giftedness/talentedness—requires differentiated pedagogical practices, continuous professional development, and the strengthening of specialized support policies to ensure equitable and high-quality education.
Humanistic–religious education integrates spiritual values, social relationships, and character development in primary education. However, its conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, and outcome evidence remain inconsistently documented, particularly in Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama (SPK) schools. This study presents a systematic review protocol with preliminary synthesis to examine conceptualisation, implementation practices, potential best practices, and contextual conditions. The planned review covers publications from 2014 to 2026 across Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and Indonesian academic sources. The preliminary corpus comprises ten studies identified through targeted searches, including qualitative case studies, quantitative and mixed-methods research, and conceptual analysis. Formal database searching, PRISMA screening, and critical appraisal remain incomplete. Preliminary patterns indicate that vertical–spiritual and horizontal–social dimensions predominate, while habituation and school culture feature prominently in implementation. Explicit curriculum mapping and family–community engagement are less consistently documented, and comparable pupil-outcome evidence remains limited. Evidence concerning SPK schools is particularly sparse, precluding definitive best-practice claims. A proposed four-layer framework may guide further synthesis of conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, outcomes, and contextual conditions. These preliminary observations require verification through completion of the systematic review before supporting evidence-based recommendations.
Gender inequality in higher education remains a concern in rural Pakistan, where women’s education opportunities are shaped by social expectations concerning mobility, family responsibilities, and appropriate gender roles. This study examined how social stigmatization associated with staying at home and performing domestic roles is experienced by rural females and how public and self-stigma relate to their participation in higher education. A qualitative descriptive phenomenological design was employed. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews from 30 participants in rural Pakistan, including eight female students and nine female family members, and 13 male family and community members. Thematic analysis identified four interrelated themes: restricted mobility and chaperonage, conditional educational and career aspirations, internalized domestic identity, and protectionist concerns surrounding coeducation. The findings indicate that female education was generally valued, but support was often conditional on family approval, proximity to home, supervision, and conformity with socially accepted roles as daughters, wives, and mothers. Public stigma was reflected in shared expectations that restricted women’s mobility, educational location, and career choices. While self-stigma through self-censorship became apparent when some female students anticipated these judgments and adjusted their educational aspirations accordingly. These findings suggest that educational inequality in the setting examined is associated not only with material and institutional barriers but also with social judgments and their internalization. By applying a stigma perspective, the study provides a context-specific account of how public stigma, self-stigma, and self-censorship may interact with gendered expectations to narrow higher education opportunities for rural females.
Introduction Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has emerged as a prominent framework for promoting inclusive education by addressing learner variability through flexible curriculum design, instruction, and assessment. Although interest in UDL has expanded globally, evidence regarding its implementation in primary mathematics education remains fragmented across diverse educational contexts. This systematic review synthesized empirical evidence on UDL implementation in primary mathematics education and developed an evidence-informed integrative framework to guide research and practice. Methods The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) guidelines. Searches conducted in Scopus and Web of Science identified 168 records, from which 14 studies met the inclusion criteria. Methodological quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT, Version 2018), and data were synthesized through thematic analysis. Results Three substantive themes emerged: instructional practices supporting UDL implementation, educational outcomes associated with UDL implementation, and contextual challenges and enabling factors. The findings revealed that effective UDL implementation was characterized by differentiated instruction, multiple means of representation, engagement, and action and expression, supported by accessible learning resources and digital technologies. These practices were associated with improved mathematics achievement, conceptual understanding, learner engagement, participation, and accessibility. However, successful implementation depended on sustained teacher professional development, institutional support, and equitable access to instructional resources. Discussion The review informed the development of an evidence-informed integrative framework that contextualizes UDL implementation within primary mathematics education. By linking enabling conditions, instructional practices, contextual influences, and learner outcomes, the framework extends existing UDL applications and offers a comprehensive model for advancing inclusive mathematics education. The findings underscore the importance of systemic support structures in ensuring effective and sustainable UDL implementation.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is increasingly recognized as an important component of elementary education, supporting students’ social-emotional development, engagement, well-being, and academic learning. However, the relationships among teacher social-emotional competence, learning climate, implementation quality, and student outcomes remain insufficiently integrated, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aims to synthesize literature on these relationships and examine their implications for SEL implementation in Indonesian elementary schools. A narrative literature review was conducted using an existing source corpus supplemented by relevant peer-reviewed literature. The synthesis examined major themes concerning teacher competence, classroom practices, learning climate, student outcomes, implementation conditions, and contextual adaptation. The findings suggest that teacher competence is associated with the quality of SEL enactment, while a supportive learning climate provides a context for student participation and social-emotional learning. Implementation quality and cultural context also shape how SEL is adapted and sustained. These relationships should not be interpreted as a universally established causal pathway. The review highlights the need for context-responsive teacher development, school-level support, and rigorous evaluation of SEL practices. Future empirical research in Indonesian elementary schools should investigate these relationships using longitudinal and mixed-methods approaches.
This article investigates the role of project-based learning in the process of teaching visual arts, particularly from the perspective of developing students’ creative, research, and collaborative competencies. The object of the study is the process of teaching visual arts in a general education school, while the subject of the research is the pedagogical potential of applying project-based learning within this process. The aim of the article is to substantiate that project-based learning can transform visual arts lessons into an active research-oriented and creative process, in which the learner not only acquires artistic knowledge, but also independently explores cultural, social, and aesthetic issues. The results of the experimental work conducted within the framework of the study indicate that project-based activities contribute to the analysis of information, the visual interpretation of ideas, group interaction, and the development of creative solutions. It is concluded that project-based learning enhances the effectiveness of visual arts education by fostering proactive, responsible, and independently thinking learners who are able to respond to cultural issues through art.
Automotive electrical-system education requires an understanding of circuit principles and component functions, yet evaluations based on class averages can obscure individual differences and assessment limitations. This study examined changes in test performance before and after instruction recorded as problem-based learning in a headlamp and starter-system unit for Grade XI vocational automotive students. A one-group design was used to analyse 34 matched pre-test and post-test scores on a 0-to-100 scale. Descriptive statistics, paired t tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, an exact sign test, standardized mean change, normalized gains, bootstrap confidence intervals, and exploratory analyses of baseline scores and gains were conducted. Mean scores increased from 71.91 to 95.88, representing a gain of 23.97 points. Thirty-two students improved, while two recorded lower post-test scores. All paired-change tests indicated statistically significant differences, with p values below 0.001, and the standardized within-student effect size was 1.09. An inverse association between baseline performance and arithmetic gain requires caution because the measures are mathematically linked. Seventeen students attained the maximum post-test score, indicating substantial ceiling concentration that may limit the assessment's discrimination at higher achievement levels. The results document a large, widespread improvement in recorded scores following the instructional unit. However, the absence of a comparison group prevents causal attribution of the improvement to problem-based learning. Student-level analysis and scrutiny of assessment properties offer a more informative basis for evaluating learning gains in vocational education.
The article discusses the specifics of social-pedagogical work with students majoring in “Social Pedagogy,” focusing on interacting with learners who require special educational conditions due to visual impairments. It presents the educational and social needs of the learners, the pivotal role of the social pedagogue, and the blended teaching methodology developed for this topic. Special attention is paid to the interconnected organization of lectures and practical sessions, the execution of case studies, and the core role of establishing trust and mutual understanding with the learner—all of which foster students’ professional competencies and inclusive mindset. The objective of the article is to present the methodical implementation experience of teaching the topic “Specifics of working with learners with special educational needs conditioned by visual impairments,” highlighting the complementary role of lectures and practical seminars in the professional development of future social pedagogues. During the lectures and practical seminars, a comprehensive range of methods and tools are utilized: slide presentations, lecture-discussions, Q&A sessions, “one-minute reflection,” brainstorming, video screenings, graphic charts, case studies, individual and group work, role-plays, educational games, discussions, and the “invisible trust” method. The application of these methods stimulates students' active engagement, enhances initiative, fosters positive interpersonal relationships, and develops essential social skills. Main Conclusion. The methodical framework proposed in this article can serve as a practical guide for higher education instructors. Such in-depth preparation for working with learners with visual impairments ensures that future educators enter the school system not as passive observers of the inclusion process, but as active, competent creators of a high-quality, accessible, and safe learning environment.
Learning Pancasila Education on the topic of rules at home and school for second-grade elementary students still faces challenges because some students have difficulty understanding abstract concepts of rules when they are delivered only through conventional methods. This study focuses on the effect of using the Rule Box Media on learning outcomes in Pancasila Education among second-grade students at SD QTa Annawa. This study aims to determine the differences in students' learning outcomes before and after using the Rule Box Media. The research employed a quantitative approach using a Pre-Experimental Design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research stages included administering a pretest to identify students' initial abilities, implementing learning activities using the Rule Box Media, administering a posttest to measure changes in learning outcomes, and analyzing the data using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Paired Sample T-Test with the assistance of Jamovi software. The results showed an increase in the average student learning score from 36.6 in the pretest to 92.0 in the posttest. The Paired Sample T-Test results obtained a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between students' learning outcomes before and after using the Rule Box Media. Therefore, the Rule Box Media has an effect on improving Pancasila Education learning outcomes on the topic of rules at home and school among second-grade students at SD QTa Annawa.
This research analyzes the implementation of a gamification strategy as a methodological framework for delivering curricular content in a sixth-grade primary education class over the course of a full academic year. The study aimed to understand how the integration of game-based elements fosters motivation, participation, collaborative work, and learning processes within an inclusive environment. The research employed a qualitative approach through a case study involving twenty-two students, including one student with a developmental language disorder, one with dyslexia, and one with autism spectrum disorder (level 2). Data were collected through participant observation, checklists, rubrics, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires administered to students and families, and an analysis of the work produced during learning projects. The strategy involved organizing content from four formative domains into thematic "worlds" and "islands," while incorporating avatars, badges, and an experience point (XP) system that recognized both individual and collective effort and progress. The findings indicate a significant increase in active student participation, improved attendance, greater peer collaboration, heightened engagement with school activities, and a positive perception among families regarding the students' learning and emotional well-being. It is concluded that gamification when grounded in the principles of neurodidactics, formative assessment, and educational inclusion serves as a methodological strategy capable of fostering learning environments that are motivating, equitable, and focused on the holistic development of students.
Purpose This study examined the global landscape of mental health literacy (MHL) education for health professions students, focusing on publication trends, intervention designs, pedagogical approaches, MHL domains addressed, evaluation methods, and contextual influences. Methods Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines, an Evidence and Gap Mapping (EGM) scoping review was conducted to identify and visually synthesize MHL education interventions. Searches were conducted in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCOhost (including CINAHL, PsycINFO, and ERIC), and APA PsycArticles (February 1997-May 2025). The included studies involved pre-licensure health professions students and implemented structured educational interventions explicitly targeting MHL domains. The data were extracted using a standardized framework and analyzed through descriptive synthesis and visual mapping to identify research clusters and gaps. PROSPERO registration: CRD420251050891. Results Fifty-five studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. Notably, the number of publications increased significantly after 2016, with most of the evidence coming from Europe, the Western Pacific, and the Americas, while representation from the African and Eastern Mediterranean regions was limited. Quasi-experimental designs were the most common, characterized by short-term, classroom-based interventions primarily targeting specific professions, particularly nursing and medicine. Although traditional didactic teaching methods remained prevalent, experiential strategies such as simulation, role-play, and reflective practices were increasingly adopted. Within the existing body of evidence, interventions predominantly emphasized knowledge, attitudes, and confidence, whereas skills development, behavioral change, self-awareness, and help-seeking were less consistently addressed. Furthermore, evaluations mostly relied on short-term, self-reported outcomes, with few studies examining behavioral change or long-term impacts. Conclusions MHL education for future health professionals is expanding but remains unevenly distributed, pedagogically conservative, and methodologically limited. Advancing the field will require longitudinal, theory-informed, and experiential approaches, stronger evaluation designs, integration of lived-experience perspectives, and targeted capacity-building in low- and middle-income settings.
This study aims to analyze the concept of educational learning in KH. Hasyim Asy'ari's thought and examine its relevance to contemporary Islamic education. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach through library research, this study utilizes Adāb al-‘Ālim wa al-Muta‘allim as the primary source, supported by relevant scholarly literature. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis involving thematic classification, contextual interpretation, and conceptual synthesis. The findings reveal that KH. Hasyim Asy'ari's educational philosophy integrates theocentric and anthropocentric orientations, emphasizing the interconnected development of intellectual, moral, spiritual, and humanistic dimensions. Educational learning is characterized by teachers' moral exemplarity, students' ethical responsibilities, and reciprocal relationships grounded in four essential principles: tazkiyat al-nafs (spiritual purification), al-ikhlāṣ (sincerity), at-tarāḥum (mutual compassion and respect), and at-tawādud (affection). These principles establish an integrated framework that positions educational interactions as instruments of character formation and spiritual development rather than merely knowledge transmission. This study contributes a conceptual framework for strengthening ethical teacher–student relationships and promoting holistic Islamic educational practices. The findings highlight the continuing relevance of KH. Hasyim Asy'ari's educational thought in addressing contemporary challenges related to moral development and character education.

Hasyim Asy'ari
The article presents the challenges of civic education and a civic upbringing in the era of the transforming of society in response to climate change. These challenges include not only support for mitigation and adaptation measures but also support for maintaining or deepening democratic processes and institutions.Following the UNESCO call for educational transformation (2021), responsible civic education was defined as education that leads students to support pro-climate measures (a shared truth and a vision of the future) but also to embrace democratic civil attitudes.According to UNESCO, education should lead to peaceful activism that criticises and confronts the power structures that disrupt or prevent shared truths about a possible future. The authors therefore describe the transformations in civil disobedience (CD) and theoretical reflections on CD that appreciate its importance and potential for promoting pro-climatic measures. They also present other civil approaches and examples of addressing the climate crisis, specifically examining the democratic limits and positive aspects of the concepts of environmental and ecological citizenship, deliberative democracy, and eco-modernism.They then present the concepts of civic education and offer answers to the question of what parameters responsible civic education should meet.First, they show the current interdependence between the subject of civic education and climate change. They then present Westheimer's models of civic education in relation to sustainability and the deepening of democratic processes. Here, the model of a justice-oriented citizen is presented in relation to the concept of responsible citizenship, where responsibility is extended to that of taking action for the benefit of society as a whole.
Purpose: This study examines the role of individual management educators in implementing Responsible Management Education (RME). It addresses a critical gap in the literature, which has disproportionately focused on institutional adoption and programme-level commitments rather than the agency, practices, and development of academics who translate these principles into reality. Methodology: Following PRISMA guidelines, this systematic literature review identified 42 peer-reviewed articles from Google Scholar (2000–2025). The data were analyzed using the inductive Gioia methodology to capture educators' actions and mapped against the UN’s seven Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Findings: The review synthesizes individual academic action into four interconnected, mutually reinforcing themes: curriculum revisions, enhanced external engagement, embodiment of pedagogical changes, and academic development in teaching, learning, and researching (TLR). Crucially, academic development serves as the foundational connective thread, empowering educators with the research capability, credibility, and peer support required to drive the other three dimensions. Implications: For academics, the study demonstrates that RME is enacted through everyday choices in classroom pedagogy and collaborative research. For business school leadership, it highlights that institutional change requires actively supporting educators through protected time, mentoring, and revised workload and promotion incentives that reward responsible scholarship. Originality: By shifting the unit of analysis from the institution to the individual academic, this paper addresses why top-level PRME commitments often decouple into symbolic rhetoric. It contributes to a dynamic conceptual framework that models the individual educator as the central change agent orchestrating curriculum revision, pedagogical innovation, external collaboration, and scholarship. Limitations and directions for future research: This review primarily draws literature from Google Scholar and provides an interpretive thematic synthesis. Future research should empirically validate the framework through surveys and interviews across diverse geographic and developing-economy contexts, while further exploring the under-researched PRME Practice principle. This study was motivated by the fact that some students still showed a lack of empathy and social awareness in their daily lives. Therefore, Islamic Religious Education learning is expected not only to focus on knowledge but also to instill empathy values to improve students' social awareness. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of Islamic Religious Education learning based on empathy values and the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers, the principal, and eleventh-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Palembang. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results showed that the implementation of Islamic Religious Education learning based on empathy values had been carried out well through habituation, teacher role modeling, group work, motivation, social activities, and religious activities involving students directly. The implementation had a positive impact on students' social awareness. Supporting factors included the role of teachers, a conducive school environment, and support from the principal and parents. Inhibiting factors included differences in students' characteristics, lack of consistency in applying empathy values, and the use of gadgets. Efforts to overcome these obstacles were carried out through student guidance and parenting activities for parents.
This article aims to analyze the problems faced by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in shaping students’ morals amid the development of social media. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by examining scholarly journals on digital morality, Islamic education, social media etiquette, teacher role modelling, and digital literacy. The literature synthesis indicates that social media has become an environment that can influence students’ values and behavior. The issues discussed include exposure to content that contradicts Islamic values, impolite communication, cyberbullying, dependence on peer approval, and the gap between students’ understanding of Islamic values and their application in digital behavior. Nevertheless, social media also has the potential to serve as a medium for moral education when used appropriately. This study emphasizes the importance of teacher role modelling, digital literacy, habituation of Islamic values, contextual learning, and collaboration among schools, families, and communities. The fundamental issue to consider is how to connect students’ religious understanding acquired through classroom learning with the application of moral values in everyday life, including their use of social media. Therefore, PAI learning should focus not only on religious knowledge but also on developing students’ ability to apply Islamic ethics critically, wisely, and consistently in digital spaces.
Teacher–student relationships outside formal lessons are part of school social life and may provide opportunities to practice democratic values. This qualitative case study examined patterns of out-of-class interaction, their relationship to democratic values, and factors shaping them at SMK Lingga Kencana Depok. Fourteen informants participated: two vice principals, a Pancasila and Civic Education teacher, a religious education teacher, and ten eleventh-grade students. Data came from in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Findings show open communication, mutual respect, professional closeness, and opportunities for students to express opinions. Democratic values appeared through openness, respect for differences, participation, dialogue, and responsibility. Teachers’ personal approaches and the school environment supported interaction, while differences in student characteristics, limited time, and some students’ lack of confidence posed challenges. Unlike studies centered on formal lessons or structured programs, this case foregrounds everyday out-of-class interactions in vocational education. These interactions may provide a contextual space for practicing democratic values relevant to building democratic culture, but this case study does not establish a direct causal effect on its formation.
The rapid expansion of online learning in higher education has transformed the way students interact with course content, instructors, and peers, making student engagement a critical indicator of learning success. This study investigates the influence of online learning quality, lecturer support, and academic self-efficacy on student engagement in an online learning environment. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from university students through a structured questionnaire measuring the four key constructs. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis to examine the direct effects of each independent variable on student engagement. The results reveal that all three variables—online learning quality, lecturer support, and academic self-efficacy—have significant positive effects on student engagement. Among these, academic self-efficacy emerged as the strongest predictor, indicating that students’ confidence in their academic abilities plays a central role in shaping their level of participation and involvement. Online learning quality also significantly contributes to engagement, emphasizing the importance of well-designed, interactive, and accessible digital learning environments. Additionally, lecturer support was found to positively influence engagement, highlighting the role of instructor presence, feedback, and communication in fostering an engaging learning experience. These findings suggest that improving both structural and psychological aspects of online education can enhance student engagement. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on online learning by providing empirical evidence on key factors that influence engagement and offers practical implications for educators and institutions aiming to optimize online learning experiences.

STEM-focused higher education systems worldwide face increasing pressure to prepare learners for complex, ill-structured challenges, from climate resilience to AI ethics, that demand adaptive expertise and integrative thinking. Yet most higher education environments remain oriented toward near transfer, emphasizing the application of knowledge within familiar boundaries more consistently than flexible reasoning across diverse contexts. This essay advances the Fractal Systems Model (FSM), an equity-centered conceptual framework that integrates cognitive, sociocultural, and systems-theoretical perspectives to examine how higher education systems might be designed to support adaptive expertise. FSM reconceptualizes far transfer as a potentially designable system property shaped by recursively aligned learning processes across educational scales. Drawing on research in cognitive science, situated learning, equity studies, and Discipline-Based Education Research, the model specifies how opportunities for abstraction, integration, and recontextualization can recur across the micro, meso, and macro levels of higher education. FSM further proposes that alignment across these levels may strengthen opportunities for far transfer and adaptive expertise while reducing reliance on isolated courses or selective enrichment experiences. The model offers researchers, practitioners, and policymakers an empirically testable systems framework for examining how equitable learning ecosystems can be designed to support adaptive expertise for the complex challenges of the twenty-first century.

Nigeria’s ambition to build a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030 requires more than macroeconomic reforms, infrastructure development and increased investment. It requires a well-educated, highly skilled and productive population capable of generating knowledge, developing technologies, creating businesses and solving national problems. Quality education is therefore one of the most important foundations for achieving this economic ambition. This paper examines the critical role of quality education in supporting Nigeria’s aspiration for a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative documentary research design, applying thematic content analysis to eighteen secondary sources drawn from national policy documents, reports of international organisations and peer-reviewed literature. It argues that quality education contributes to economic transformation through the development of a skilled workforce, promotion of science, technology and innovation, expansion of entrepreneurship and employment, strengthening of research and industrial productivity, promotion of inclusive economic growth, and development of effective leadership and institutional capacity. The paper observes that Nigeria’s challenge is no longer simply increasing access to education but ensuring that what learners acquire is relevant to the changing requirements of the Nigerian and global economy. The paper suggests increased and sustainable investment in education, curriculum reform, stronger university-industry partnerships, expansion of technical and vocational education, improved funding for research and innovation, digital transformation of education, and stronger accountability in educational institutions. It concludes that the one-trillion-dollar economic ambition cannot be sustainably achieved without corresponding investment in the quality of Nigeria’s human capital. Quality education should therefore be treated as productive economic infrastructure and a central pillar of Nigeria’s long-term economic transformation.

The rapid development of digital technology has created opportunities to support Hifz al-Quran education through digital memorisation applications, interactive multimedia, online learning platforms and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools. However, the extent to which these technologies improve measurable Hifz outcomes remains unclear. This systematic literature review examined the roles, forms and reported effects of digital innovation in Tahfiz education. Searches were conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and MyJurnal for studies published between 2020 and July 2026 in English or Malay. The manuscript records 280 identified records, of which 75 duplicates were removed; 205 records were screened, 50 full texts were assessed, and 24 studies were included in the synthesis. Thematic synthesis organised the literature into four dimensions: digital memorisation applications, interactive multimedia, digital learning platforms and AI. Across the included literature, digital tools were reported to support access to resources, repetition and murajaah, motivation, learner autonomy, monitoring and continuity of learning. Nevertheless, the evidence presented is more consistent for learning support and learner perceptions than for demonstrable improvements in memorisation accuracy, tasmi’ fluency, memorisation quantity or retention. Digital tools should therefore complement, rather than replace, teacher-guided talaqqi, musyafahah, tasmi’ and murajaah. The review identifies a need for transparent quality appraisal and further empirical studies using clearly defined Hifz outcome measures.
Teacher professional development is particularly important in special education, where teachers are expected to respond to diverse and complex student needs. This study examines school-based professional development workshops implemented through a voluntary, group-oriented adaptation of the peer coaching model in a special education school.
