Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis frequently experience physical and psychological complaints that may affect their sleep quality. Uremic pruritus, restless legs syndrome, anxiety, and post-hemodialysis fatigue are potential factors that may disrupt sleep quality. Objective: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the sleep quality of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at Bahteramas Regional General Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Methods: This study employed a quantitative analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 83 respondents. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), 5-D Itch Scale, International Restless Legs Syndrome Rating Scale (IRLS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-Anxiety (HADS-A), and a post-hemodialysis fatigue assessment instrument. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and binary logistic regression. Results: Bivariate analysis showed that uremic pruritus (p = 0.046), restless legs syndrome (p = 0.015), anxiety (p = 0.029), and post-hemodialysis fatigue (p = 0.049) were statistically significant factors associated with sleep quality. Simultaneously, the four variables had a statistically significant effect on sleep quality (p = 0.007), with a Nagelkerke R Square value of 0.217. In the multivariable analysis, only anxiety showed a statistically significant independent effect (p = 0.019). Conclusion: Uremic pruritus, restless legs syndrome, anxiety, and post-hemodialysis fatigue were statistically associated with sleep quality in the bivariate analysis. The four variables were jointly significant in the multivariable model, whereas only anxiety remained statistically significant after adjustment for the other variables.
Chronobiology studies indicate that individuals are regulated by three timers: social, solar, and biological. Environmental and behavioral changes can modify the sleep–wake cycle. Many university students adopt nighttime study habits, interfering with the circadian rhythm. Sleep restriction or poor sleep quality compromises memory and significantly reduces academic performance. This study aimed to verify whether there is an association between sleep quality and academic performance among nursing and medical students at a public university in Alagoas, Brazil. This is an observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative study conducted with 137 Nursing and Medical students, selected through stratified probabilistic sampling. Data collection included a sociodemographic questionnaire to characterize the sample, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ), and academic self-assessment. Data were analyzed for normality, and associations were tested using Pearson and Spearman correlations (SciPy – Python). Among the 137 students, 65.7% were women, 70.1% were between 19 and 24 years old, 67.9% rated their academic performance between 7.0 and 8.9, and 66.4% presented poor sleep quality. Negative correlations between the PSQI and self-assessment variables (r = -0.368; p < 0.001 for Pearson; r = -0.360; p < 0.001 for Spearman) reinforce the importance of sleep quality in the academic context. The findings highlight the urgency of interventions that promote sleep hygiene education and strategies to improve rest quality, reducing the likelihood of problems that may negatively impact students’ academic performance.
ABSTRACT Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with a rapidly increasing prevalence worldwide and is frequently accompanied by microvascular complications, particularly diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy often presents with sensory symptoms such as pain, paresthesia, and numbness, which tend to worsen at night and may interfere with sleep quality. Disturbed sleep in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus can adversely affect daily functioning, glycemic control, and overall quality of life. However, previous studies examining the relationship between diabetic neuropathy and sleep quality have reported inconsistent findings. This study aims to determine the relationship between the occurrence of diabetic neuropathy and sleep quality among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at RS Siti Khodijah Sepanjang. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected using primary data from questionnaires and secondary data from medical records of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Diabetic neuropathy was assessed based on clinical evaluation, while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The findings demonstrate an association between the occurrence of diabetic neuropathy and impaired sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Patients experiencing diabetic neuropathy tended to have poorer sleep quality, characterized by prolonged sleep latency, reduced sleep efficiency, increased sleep fragmentation, and shorter sleep duration. Diabetic neuropathy is associated with decreased sleep quality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. These findings highlight the importance of considering sleep quality as part of comprehensive management in patients with diabetic neuropathy to improve overall health outcomes. Aim and background: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is reported far less often than poor nocturnal sleep quality in Indian medical students. We aimed to estimate EDS prevalence and its independent correlates (primary), and to compare these with poor sleep quality correlates in the same cohort and relate both to examination performance (secondary). We hypothesized that sleep hygiene behavior, not global sleep quality category, would dominate.Materials and methods: Prospective cross-sectional study of 354 of 450 eligible MBBS students (78.7%) at a Southern Indian college, sampled by stratified proportional randomization.Under supervised standardized administration, they completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS; EDS >10), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI), with screen time, stress, mood, lifestyle, clinical covariates, and the latest university examination percentage.Excessive daytime sleepiness correlates were examined by logistic regression with a pre-specified confounder-adjusted sensitivity model. Results: Excessive daytime sleepiness affected 21.5% [95% confidence interval (CI) 17.5-26.0],more often among poor than good sleepers (27.7% vs 18.6%).Adjusted [area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) 0.773, 0.714-0.832],only poorer sleep hygiene remained independent [odds ratio (OR) 1.12 per point, 1.07-1.18],unchanged after adjustment for all measured confounders (1.12, 1.06-1.17).Examination percentage did not differ by sleep status (67.33 ± 5.16 vs 68.07 ± 5.72; p = 0.229); academic stage and sex, not sleep, predicted marks (R² = 0.152).Conclusion: In this cross-sectional sample, EDS was associated more closely with sleep hygiene behavior than with global sleep quality category, and the two had distinct correlation profiles.Screening for sleepiness alongside sleep quality, and addressing bedtime device use, merit consideration in student health services. These are associations only; no direction of effect can be inferred.Clinical significance: Measuring EDS alongside global sleep quality identifies a partly distinct at-risk group, for whom brief counselling on bedtime device use may be more specific than generic sleep hygiene advice.
Background: Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) undergoing treatment may experience poor sleep quality and fatigue, potentially affecting daily activities and quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep quality and fatigue levels among patients with pulmonary TB undergoing treatment. Methods: This observational analytic study employed a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in April 2026 at Primary Health Center X, Deli Serdang Regency, Indonesia, involving 21 participants selected through total sampling. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while fatigue was measured using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Spearman's correlation test was planned with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: According to the data presented in the manuscript, 14 participants (66.7%) had poor sleep quality, while 7 participants (33.3%) had good sleep quality. Moderate fatigue was the most frequent category, reported in 8 participants (38.1%), followed by severe fatigue in 7 participants (33.3%) and mild fatigue in 6 participants (28.6%). Cross-tabulation indicated that all participants classified as having severe fatigue belonged to the poor sleep quality group. Conclusion: The descriptive findings suggest a tendency toward greater fatigue among patients with poor sleep quality. However, the statistical significance of this relationship remains unconfirmed pending verification of the analysis using individual participant data
Sleep quality is fundamental to college students’ physical and psychological health and academic functioning. Amid increasing digitalization and stress, sleep problems remain prevalent among college students. Previous research has shown that physical activity, cognitive processing styles, and behavioral regulation patterns are associated with sleep outcomes, but these variables have often been examined separately, with limited attention to their integrated association structure. Based on cross-sectional survey data, this study used latent-variable structural equation modeling to examine the sequential indirect association pattern among physical activity, negative attentional bias, bedtime procrastination, and sleep quality. Using cluster sampling, data were collected from 921 college students from four universities in East China (439 males, 482 females; M_age = 20.34, SD = 1.59). Measures included the Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS-3), Negative Attentional Bias Scale, Bedtime Procrastination Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Structural equation modeling and bootstrap methods examined indirect associations. Results indicated that physical activity was significantly associated with lower PSQI scores, indicating better sleep quality (B_total = −0.072, β _total = −0.440, p < 0.001). Negative attentional bias and bedtime procrastination both showed significant partial indirect associations. The simple indirect associations through negative attentional bias and bedtime procrastination accounted for 20.8 and 15.3% of the total association, respectively. The sequential indirect association “physical activity → negative attentional bias → bedtime procrastination → sleep quality” was also significant, although its proportion was relatively small (4.2%). Overall, the total indirect association accounted for 40.3% of the total association. Multi-group structural analysis indicated that the association structure was broadly comparable across gender groups, although associations involving bedtime procrastination appeared stronger among female students. By integrating cognitive processing and behavioral regulation perspectives, this study provides a more integrative view of the association between physical activity and sleep quality. The findings suggest that college students’ sleep problems may be embedded within a broader system of health behaviors and psychological processes. Given the cross-sectional design, future longitudinal or experimental studies should examine the dynamic associations among these variables.
Shift work is associated with irregular eating behaviors, increased energy intake, and impaired sleep quality. Poor dietary patterns may elevate systemic inflammation, contributing to long-term metabolic and cardiovascular risks. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), sleep quality, dietary intake, and anthropometric and body composition measures between fixed daytime workers and rotating shift workers and to examine the associations among these parameters. This cross-sectional study included 52 male workers employed at a defense industry factory in Ankara, Türkiye, who worked either fixed daytime or rotating shifts. Dietary intake was assessed using 24-h dietary recalls for three non-consecutive days, from which macronutrient and micronutrient intakes were calculated. DII scores were computed to assess the inflammatory potential of the diet. Sleep quality was evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Anthropometric measurements, body composition, blood pressure, and biochemical parameters, including fasting plasma glucose, lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, and triglycerides), C-reactive protein, and homocysteine, were measured using standardised protocols. Rotating shift workers had significantly higher total energy intake and higher daily intakes of fructose, total fat, saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, cholesterol, and several micronutrients, including vitamin A, folate, iron, calcium, and phosphorus compared with fixed daytime workers (p < 0.05). Mean DII scores did not differ significantly between the groups (Fixed daytime: 0.2 ± 1.86; rotating shift: −0.2 ± 2.25). DII scores were positively correlated with global PSQI score (r = 0.278, p = 0.046), the PSQI sleep duration component score (r = 0.319, p = 0.021), and daytime dysfunction component score (r = 0.287, p = 0.039); however, the association between DII and overall sleep quality was no longer statistically significant after adjustment for potential confounding factors (age, BMI, smoking status, physical activity, and work schedule). These findings suggest that dietary habits, pro-inflammatory dietary patterns, and poor sleep quality may represent co-existing factors associated with metabolic risk, and addressing these factors may contribute to better overall metabolic health.
Background Diabetes self-management requires consistent daily behaviors. Social jetlag, the mismatch between workday and free-day sleep timing, may disrupt daily behavior routines. This study examined the association between social jetlag and self-management in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D), and whether sleep quality and depressive symptoms statistically accounted for portions of this association. Methods This cross-sectional study recruited employed adults aged 18–60 years with T2D from the endocrinology departments of three tertiary public general hospitals in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China, from January to April 2026. Social jetlag was calculated from the micro Munich Chronotype Questionnaire; sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and diabetes self-management were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities, respectively. Multivariable linear regression and serial mediation analysis with 5,000 bootstrap resamples were performed. Results A total of 339 participants were analyzed. Each additional h of social jetlag was associated with higher PSQI score ( B = 1.352, 95% CI 1.042 to 1.663), higher PHQ-9 score ( B = 3.772, 95% CI 3.314 to 4.229), and lower SDSCA score ( B = −6.623, 95% CI −7.566 to −5.679). The direct association remained significant after PSQI and PHQ-9 scores were included ( B = −3.830, 95% CI −5.048 to −2.611). The specific indirect association through depressive symptoms alone was −2.230 (95% bootstrap CI −3.053 to −1.469), and the serial indirect association through sleep quality and depressive symptoms was −0.314 (95% bootstrap CI −0.534 to −0.150). Conclusion Greater social jetlag was associated with poorer diabetes self-management. Significant indirect associations were observed through depressive symptoms alone and through the serial pathway from sleep quality to depressive symptoms. These associations do not establish temporal ordering or causal mediation because the data were cross-sectional.
Introduction: Polysomnography technologists perform overnight sleep studies requiring continuous patient monitoring, technical management of diagnostic equipment, and sustained attention.Although night-shift work has been associated with adverse health outcomes among healthcare workers, the occupational health burden among polysomnography technologists remains poorly characterized in India. This study evaluated sleep quality, excessive daytime sleepiness, burnout-related symptoms, musculoskeletal symptoms, and selected cardiometabolic indicators and examined their associations with years of night-shift work experience. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study used an online structured questionnaire distributed through professional groups to polysomnography technologists working in private hospitals and sleep centers in South India.Participants were graduates with at least six months of night-shift experience.Of 196 responses, 16 were excluded for less than six months of night-shift experience and 30 for incomplete questionnaires, leaving 150 participants for analysis. The questionnaire included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), and musculoskeletal assessment.Height and weight were measured by participants.Blood pressure was manually assessed, while fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were obtained from recent laboratory reports.Poor sleep quality was defined as PSQI >5 and excessive daytime sleepiness as ESS >10.The CBI was analyzed continuously and categorized operationally as 0-49, 50-74, and 75-100.Years of night-shift work experience were analyzed as a continuous exposure and categorized as ≤5 versus >5 years.Multivariable logistic regression was adjusted for age, sex, and BMI.Results: Mean age was 29.97 ± 4.43 years, and BMI was 24.16 ± 3.19 kg/m².Mean PSQI, ESS, and CBI scores were 7.09 ± 2.95, 9.20 ± 3.39, and 45.99 ± 20.95, respectively.Poor sleep quality occurred in 97 (64.7%), excessive daytime sleepiness in 56 (37.3%), and musculoskeletal symptoms in 126 (84.0%).CBI scores were categorized as 0-49 in 86 (57.3%), 50-74 in 48 (32.0%), and 75-100 in 16 (10.7%).Hypertension-range blood pressure was identified in 21 (14.0%) and prediabetes in 11 (7.3%).Each additional year of night-shift work experience was associated with higher odds of poor sleep quality (adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 1.433, 95% CI: 1.118-1.835),excessive daytime sleepiness (aOR: 1.205, 95% CI: 1.001-1.450),CBI ≥50 (aOR: 1.810, 95% CI: 1.350-2.428),musculoskeletal symptoms (aOR: 1.372, 95% CI: 1.003-1.878),lower-back symptoms (aOR: 1.296, 95% CI: 1.051-1.598),neck symptoms (aOR: 1.272, 95% CI: 1.043-1.552),and hypertension-range blood pressure (aOR: 1.387, 95% CI: 1.052-1.829).No significant associations were observed with shoulder symptoms or prediabetes. Conclusion: Polysomnography technologists reported frequent poor sleep quality, excessive daytime sleepiness, burnout-related symptoms, and musculoskeletal symptoms.More years of night-shift work experience were associated with several adverse health outcomes after adjustment for age, sex, and BMI.These findings should be interpreted cautiously given the cross-sectional design and potential residual confounding.Prospective multicenter studies are warranted.
This study investigates the relationships among sleep quality, social inclusion, and psychological resilience in older adults and examines whether social inclusion moderates the association between sleep quality and psychological resilience. Grounded in the Main Effect Model, social inclusion is conceptualized as a key psychosocial resource in later life. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 455 older adults in Türkiye. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Social Inclusion Scale, and the Psychological Hardiness Scale. Hierarchical multiple regression and moderation analyses were performed while controlling for demographic variables. Findings revealed a strong positive association between social inclusion and psychological resilience (r = .664, p < .001) and a negative association between sleep quality scores and resilience (r = –.305, p < .001). In regression analyses, social inclusion emerged as the strongest predictor of resilience (β = .60, p < .001), whereas sleep quality did not make a significant independent contribution. The interaction between sleep quality and social inclusion was not significant. The results highlight social inclusion as a primary psychosocial factor supporting resilience in later life and underscore the importance of strengthening social participation to promote psychological well-being among older adults.
Background: Sleep disturbances impact outcomes in major depressive disorder (MDD). This cross-sectional study evaluated subjective sleep quality and habits in adolescents with MDD and their associations with suicide attempt (SA) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).Methods: Sixty-eight adolescents aged 13–18 years with MDD were classified as NSSI-only, SA-only, and combined. Clinical severity and depressive symptoms were measured with Clinical Global Impression– Severity scale and Children’s Depression Rating Scale–Revised (CDRS-R). Self-harm and suicidality were evaluated using Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) assessed past-month sleep quality and past-week sleep habits. Results: Participants had poor sleep quality (89.7%) and disturbed sleep habits (83.8%), without group differences. CSHQ scores correlated moderately with lifetime NSSI frequency (r = .36, P = .003), whereas PSQI scores correlated weakly (r = .28, P = .023). PSQI scores were modestly related to past-month suicidal ideation severity (r = .28, P = .022). In hierarchical regressions controlling for sedative medications and CDRS-R scores, CSHQ (β = 0.299, P = .022) and PSQI (β = 0.248, P = .047) accounted for incremental variance in lifetime NSSI frequency. Conclusion: Sleep problems are common among adolescents with MDD, suggesting a clinical feature rather than a subgroup-specific trait. Sleep disturbance was associated with lifetime NSSI burden beyond depression severity, indicating a clinically relevant assessment domain. Prospective longitudinal studies should clarify temporal and bidirectional relationships with self-harm outcomes.
Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury و Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale ارزیابی گردید.
Background: Sleep disturbances impact outcomes in major depressive disorder (MDD). This cross-sectional study evaluated subjective sleep quality and habits in adolescents with MDD and their associations with suicide attempt (SA) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).Methods: Sixty-eight adolescents aged 13–18 years with MDD were classified as NSSI-only, SA-only, and combined. Clinical severity and depressive symptoms were measured with Clinical Global Impression– Severity scale and Children’s Depression Rating Scale–Revised (CDRS-R). Self-harm and suicidality were evaluated using Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) assessed past-month sleep quality and past-week sleep habits. Results: Participants had poor sleep quality (89.7%) and disturbed sleep habits (83.8%), without group differences. CSHQ scores correlated moderately with lifetime NSSI frequency (r = .36, P = .003), whereas PSQI scores correlated weakly (r = .28, P = .023). PSQI scores were modestly related to past-month suicidal ideation severity (r = .28, P = .022). Primary insomnia is a common sleep–wake disorder characterized by impaired sleep initiation and maintenance with associated daytime dysfunction, while current pharmacological treatments are often limited by safety and tolerability concerns. This study examined the independent and combined effects of a sensory-mediated non-pharmacological intervention using Viola odorata L. and an oral botanical preparation derived from Papaver somniferum L. seeds in adults with primary insomnia. This exploratory, prospective, randomized, three-arm, component-based integrative trial enrolled 90 participants aged 18–65 years, randomized equally to Viola odorata –based Natūl therapy, Papaver somniferum seed powder, or combination therapy and treated for four weeks. Sleep outcomes—including Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), daytime dysfunction (VAS), and number of nocturnal awakenings—were assessed at baseline and post-intervention and analysed using a per-protocol framework with non-parametric methods. Recurrence rate has been assessed after three months of treatment. All three interventions were associated with significant improvements across all sleep parameters (all p < 0.001), with large within-group effect sizes (r ≈ 0.86 – 0.89). Between-group comparisons of change scores demonstrated significantly greater improvements with combination therapy compared with either monotherapy (η 2 ≈ 0.21–0.26). Viola odorata –based Natūl monotherapy produced improvements comparable to oral Papaver somniferum therapy for most outcomes. No clinically meaningful safety concerns were observed. Sensory-mediated therapy using Viola odorata L. and oral administration of Papaver somniferum L. seeds are effective in the management of primary insomnia, with combination therapy providing additive sustained with less recurrence rate and supporting a graded, personalized integrative treatment approach.
Background and Objective The baseline sleep phenotype of early Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients entering lecanemab therapy is poorly characterized. Methods Forty-four consecutive early AD patients (mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia) awaiting lecanemab underwent attended polysomnography, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Forty-four controls without documented cognitive disorder, referred for polysomnography by the study’s sleep specialist over the same period, were balanced on sex, age and apnea–hypopnea index. Comparisons used independent-samples tests with Benjamini–Hochberg false discovery rate correction within pre-specified families. Results Obstructive sleep apnea was prevalent (61.4% moderate-to-severe) despite a body mass index of 22.5 kg/m2; groups were balanced (all p>0.15). Early AD patients showed greater wake after sleep onset (114.0 min vs. 78.7 min; q=0.006), lower sleep efficiency (67.7% vs. 77.2%; q=0.006) and shorter total sleep time (284.0 min vs. 321.1 min; q=0.039) with comparable recording time, and lower REM arousal index (13.9/h vs. 21.3/h; q=0.012). Differences were moderate (|g| 0.49–0.72); sleep-stage distribution and total arousal index did not differ. ISI (3.8 vs. 13.8) and PSQI (4.1 vs. 10.0) were nonetheless lower in AD (both q<0.001; |g| 1.52–1.86); BDI did not differ. Conclusions Early AD patients awaiting lecanemab therapy had a high prevalence of sleep apnea and reduced objective sleep continuity despite reporting fewer subjective sleep complaints than controls, a contrast that may partly reflect the symptomatic sleep-clinic comparator. Objective sleep assessment before initiating lecanemab therapy may therefore be considered.
Objectives: Given the limited pediatric-specific evidence in this area, we aimed to examine the association between federated-level gymnastics participation and sleep quality and sleep timing in adolescents. The global Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score was defined as the primary outcome, sleep-timing measures as secondary outcomes, and individual PSQI component analyses as exploratory. Methods: This observational, cross-sectional comparative study included adolescents aged 12 to 16 years participating in federated gymnastics and controls who did not participate in federated sports.Demographic variables included age, sex, and parental educational level, while training-related variables included weekly training duration, number of training sessions, and training schedule.Sleep quality was assessed using the PSQI, and bedtime, wake-up time, sleep duration, and sleep latency were derived from the corresponding PSQI items.Multiple linear regression models included age, sex, maternal educational level, and paternal educational level as covariates. Results: The study included 60 gymnasts and 37 controls, with baseline differences in age, sex distribution, and parental educational level between groups.Gymnasts trained a median of 12.0 hours/week (Q1-Q3: 8.25 to 20.0) over five sessions/week (Q1-Q3: 4 to 6), with a median training-session end time of 20:30 (range: 18:00 to 22:00).In adjusted analyses, gymnast status was associated with later bedtime (B=0.392hours, 95% CI 0.043 to 0.740, p=0.028), whereas no statistically significant association was observed between study group and global PSQI score (B=0.311,95% CI -0.720 to 1.343, p=0.550).Increasing age was associated with later bedtime (B=0.231hours, p=0.004) and shorter sleep duration (B=-0.398hours, 95% CI -0.560 to -0.236, p<0.001).Among gymnasts, training-session end time was not associated with global PSQI score (B=0.141,95% CI -0.344 to 0.625, p=0.563;R²=0.006).Overall, 19/97 participants (19.6%) met the conventional PSQI >5 threshold for poor sleep quality, although an optimal adolescent-specific clinical cutoff has not been definitively established. Conclusion: No statistically significant difference in adjusted global PSQI score was detected between federated adolescent gymnasts and controls.Gymnast status was associated with later bedtime.Approximately one in five participants met the conventional PSQI >5 threshold for poor sleep quality.Given the cross-sectional design, these findings should be interpreted as associations, and larger longitudinal studies incorporating objective sleep measures are warranted.
