This study aims to analyze the learning problems experienced by Grade VIII students at UPTD SMPN 16 Kupang based on students’ experiences and teachers’ perspectives. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, using interviews with 16 informants consisting of one homeroom teacher, three subject teachers, and 12 Grade VIII students. The data were analyzed thematically by grouping responses into recurring patterns relevant to the research focus. The findings derived from the available informant accounts revealed several issues, namely students’ limited openness in communicating their difficulties, inconsistent classroom participation, procrastination in completing assignments, and family responsibilities that reduce the time and energy available for learning. Some students reported being distracted by recreational activities, while others experienced fatigue after helping their parents at home. These findings indicate that learning problems need to be understood by considering academic factors, study habits, communication, and family context. Guidance and counseling services can support the identification of students’ needs and the development of effective learning strategies and time management skills.

Fiqh, defined as the human comprehension of Islamic jurisprudence derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah, is a fundamental component of Islamic Studies education and provides a framework for directing practical areas of Muslim life. The fundamental importance of jurisprudential categorisation is essential in fiqh education, however it poses persistent obstacles for students. This study aims to assess the comprehension level of fiqh jurisprudence classification among Islamic Studies students at UiTM Shah Alam as an initial investigation. This study adopted a survey design involving Diploma in Islamic Studies and Education students (n=59) from the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies, UiTM Shah Alam, selected through simple random sampling in line with Johanson and Brooks’ (2010) recommendation for preliminary research. The findings indicate that the understanding of Fiqh classification among UiTM Shah Alam students predominantly falls under the “Good” (39–52.5%) and “Very Good” (30–39%) categories, although the “Excellent” level is rather low (1.7–15.3%). In conclusion, this preliminary study indicates that Islamic Studies students at UiTM Shah Alam possess a robust understanding of fiqh categorisation, primarily within the “Good” and “Very Good” ranges, but face challenges in attaining “Excellent” mastery, implying a necessity for pedagogical improvements to address this deficiency.
implement the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in an IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) lesson on ecosystem harmony, aiming to enhance students' critical thinking skills. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach consisting of two cycles, with each cycle comprising the stages of "look," "think," and "act." Twenty-six fifth-grade students from SDN Tingkir Lor 02 Salatiga participated in the study. Students' critical thinking skills were assessed using a rubric based on the FRISCO indicators: Focus, Reason, Inference, Situation, Clarity, and Overview. The results indicate that students' critical thinking skills improved through the implementation of the PBL approach supported by the Science Escape Room medium. From an initial baseline score of 52.65%, the average critical thinking score rose to 70.94% in Cycle I and subsequently to 84.42% in Cycle II. This improvement reflects student progress in areas such as problem comprehension, reasoning, drawing conclusions, considering context, effectively communicating ideas, and reviewing their own thought processes. Thus, fifth-grade students at SDN Tingkir Lor 02 Salatiga were able to enhance their critical thinking skills while studying the IPAS topic of Ecosystem Harmony through the use of the Science Escape Room medium combined with the Problem-Based Learning model. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Escape Room Sains, critical thinking skills, IPAS, FRISCO.
Identifying the most effective teaching strategies for physics instruction is a persistent challenge for both researchers and schoolteachers. Studies indicate that the answer lies in Research-Based Instructional Strategies. A significant contribution in this area has been made by the theory of Visible Teaching and Learning, which measures the effects of over 250 factors influencing students’ academic success. By knowing the possible impact of specific teaching strategies, educators can design instructional approaches with predictable outcomes. The research was conducted during the 2023-2024 academic year in two public schools in Moldova, involving 305 students across grades 6, 8, and 10. This study aimed to measure the effect of concurrently applying elements from multiple constructivist teaching strategies in physics lessons, including the Flipped Classroom, Early Physics Approach, 5E Model, and Peer Instruction with Conceptual Questions, on students’ academic success and science competence in physics. At its core, the study was based on the 5E model, reinforced with pre-class tasks for students and the use of conceptual questions during the lesson. Science competence of students was structured into five components: understanding definitions, knowledge of measurement units, correct application of formulas, problem-solving skills, and the use of scientific language. The progression of these components was subsequently measured. The study also tracked the individual academic trajectories of both high-performing and low-performing students to assess their progress in physics. The study revealed that the combined application of these constructivist strategies can double students’ ability to solve problem situations and triple the correct use of scientific language. In contrast, knowledge of measurement units (~80%) and the correct application of formulas (in the range of approx. 25% – 33%) remained relatively unchanged. The insignificant progress in the correct application of formulas is explained by the small number of problems analysed on a topic, the lack of individual tasks, and the need for more explicit scaffolding and individual feedback. Additionally, the study revealed that laboratory work marks are strong predictors of overall academic success, with the correlation between laboratory work and final evaluation being 60% in 6th grade, 70% in 8th grade, and 50% in 10th grade. Additionally, the research shows that in middle school, the increase in scores for high achievers is greater than that of low achievers – three times higher in 6th grade. In high school, the increase in scores for high achievers is twice as large as that of low achievers. Both groups, high and low achievers, improve their scores after the application of the Integrated Constructivist Model. Subsequent research would explore the synergistic effect of this, and other, combinations of constructivist teaching strategies on students’ academic success, scientific competence components, and conceptual understanding. Keywords: Integrated constructivist model, didactic synergy, science competence, academic success, physics teaching.
Integrating traditional Bugis-Makassar games into physical education has the potential to support the development of elementary school students’ fundamental movement skills and physical fitness. However, its effectiveness requires empirical testing. This article presents a simulated analysis to illustrate the evaluation of physical education instruction based on traditional Bugis-Makassar games. The research scenario follows a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of fifth-grade students, with 30 students each in the experimental and control groups. The simulated data represent fundamental movement skills and physical fitness test scores before and after the intervention. The analysis includes descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity of variance tests, independent-samples t tests, and normalized gain (N-gain) calculations. The simulated results show that the experimental group’s mean fundamental movement skills score increased from 58.40 to 82.30, while the control group’s mean score increased from 59.10 to 69.20. The between-group difference in the simulated data was significant (t = 5.842; p < .001). For physical fitness, the experimental group’s mean score increased from 61.20 to 79.40, while the control group’s mean score increased from 60.80 to 68.50, with a significant between-group difference (t = 4.763; p < .001). The experimental group’s N-gain values were 0.57 for fundamental movement skills and 0.47 for physical fitness, both classified as moderate. These simulated patterns may inform hypothesis formulation and the design of evaluations for Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) instruction based on local wisdom. Conceptually, this approach connects the development of students’ motor skills with the use of traditional games in instruction. Its effectiveness requires verification through field research using appropriate instruments and documented data collection procedures.
This study investigated the implementation of a gamified English for Specific Purposes (ESP) speaking instructional framework using spinning wheel media among nursing students. A qualitative case study approach was conducted involving 25 nursing students at STIKES Bina Usada Bali. Data were gathered over five instructional sessions through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, followed by thematic analysis. The analysis revealed five themes: students’ engagement, speaking anxiety, speaking confidence, the relevance of nursing-based communication tasks, and classroom participation. The findings suggested that students perceived the randomized speaking prompts as engaging and considered nursing-related scenarios relevant to their prospective professional communication needs. Some participants further described feeling more comfortable and confident through repeated opportunities to practice speaking. Drawing on the classroom implementation, the study identified six related instructional components: context-based nursing tasks, randomized prompts, individual speaking performance, peer interaction, constructive feedback, and repeated practice. This study offers practical insights into the integration of gamification in ESP speaking instruction for nursing students. Nevertheless, the findings represent students’ experiences and perceptions; they do not demonstrate a causal improvement in speaking proficiency or establish the formal validity of the framework. Future research should investigate the framework in diverse educational contexts and explore its association with objectively assessed speaking outcomes.
Reading achievement is influenced by a variety of cognitive and affective elements, with reading motivation and metacognitive awareness identified as two of the most important. This study examined (1) the relationship of students' reading motivation and reading achievement, (2) the relationship between metacognitive awareness and reading achievement, and (3) the combined contribution of reading motivation and metacognitive awareness to reading achievement among eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Sungai Lilin. Employing a quantitative correlational research design, The population for this research comprised 344 students enrolled in the eleventh grade from ten classes. Cluster random sampling was then applied to obtain a sample of 106 students. Data were gathered through the Motivation for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ), the Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS), and a reading achievement test. The obtained data were processed and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25, which included descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, partial correlation, and multiple regression. The findings showed that a positive relationship of moderate strength was associated with reading achievement (r = .600, p < .001), whereas metacognitive awareness demonstrated a strong positive relationship with reading achievement (r = .791, p < .001). In addition, the partial correlation analysis revealed a significant but weak positive association between reading motivation and metacognitive awareness after controlling for reading achievement (r = .304, p = .002). Reading motivation and metacognitive awareness explained 64.5% of the variation associated with reading achievement (R² =.645), according to the multiple regression analysis. These findings underscore the important roles of both reading motivation and metacognitive awareness in supporting students' reading achievement and suggest that both factors should be explicitly integrated into reading instruction to enhance students' reading performance
This study aims to analyze the effect of using gamification-based Quizizz as a digital assessment on the learning motivation and engagement of grade X Building Construction and Housing Engineering students in the Basic Building Construction and Housing Engineering course at SMKN 3 Surabaya. This research examines how Quizizz assessments integrated with gamification influence motivation and learning engagement among 10th-grade students majoring in Building and Housing Construction Engineering in the Basic of Building and Housing Construction Engineering course at SMKN 3 Surabaya. A quantitative experiment was conducted using a single-group pretest–posttest design, and all 33 students in the population participated through total sampling. Data were collected via a Likert scale questionnaire and observation sheets, then analyzed using the paired t-test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, effect size calculations, and N-Gain. The research findings indicate that Quizizz combined with gamification did not result in a significant change in students’ learning motivation (Sig. = 0.769 > 0.05; effect size = 0.05), but it significantly increased learning engagement (Sig. = 0.027 < 0.05; effect size = 0.384). Observational data support this, showing an engagement rate of 86.67% (classified as very high). Therefore, Quizizz-based gamification appears to be more suitable for enhancing engagement than motivation in technical vocational subjects. Gamification-based Quizizz has proven to be more effective in enhancing learning engagement than learning motivation in technical vocational subjects. Teachers are advised to combine Quizizz with additional strategies, such as linking the material to real-world construction work contexts, in order to foster students’ learning motivation more comprehensively.
Background: Body image dissatisfaction (BID) is an emerging public health concern among college students due to its association with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Sociocultural pressures during the transition to adulthood increase vulnerability. Evidence from Western Gujarat remains limited. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of BID and identify its sociodemographic and psychological predictors among undergraduate students in Western Gujarat. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 297 undergraduate students (18–24 years) from a medical college in Western Gujarat. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, including MBSRQ-AS, BDI-II, HAM-A, and RSES. BMI was calculated using standard anthropometric measurements. Data were analyzed using SPSS v25 with chi-square tests, independent t-tests, and binary logistic regression. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: The prevalence of BID was 58.2%. Females reported significantly higher dissatisfaction than males (66.1% vs. 48.5%, p < 0.001). Higher BID was observed among overweight/obese students (75.4%) and underweight students (66.7%). Multivariate analysis identified female gender (AOR = 1.95, 95% CI: 1.13-3.37), overweight/obesity (AOR = 3.59, 95% CI: 1.85-6.97), higher depression scores (AOR = 1.05 per unit), and lower self-esteem (AOR = 0.89 per unit) as independent predictors (Nagelkerke R² = 0.398). Conclusion: BID is highly prevalent among undergraduate students in Western Gujarat, particularly among females and those with higher BMI, depression, and low self-esteem. Targeted campus-based interventions promoting body positivity, self-esteem, and mental well-being are warranted.

Bullying is a behavior that can affect students’ sense of safety and comfort in the school environment. This activity aimed to increase elementary school students’ awareness of the forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying through a Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN). The activity was conducted at SD 1 Way Gubak involving fifth- and sixth-grade students. A qualitative descriptive method was applied through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and documentation. The results showed that students were able to recognize bullying, particularly teasing, hitting, and hurting others, although their initial understanding mainly focused on physical actions. Materials presented using simple language and concrete examples helped broaden students’ understanding of bullying and its prevention. The activity also identified bullying experiences related to students’ social and economic conditions.
The transition from secondary school to higher education is a critical period that shapes students' academic engagement, social integration, and persistence. Despite increased access to higher education in South Africa, many first-year students enter university with expectations that differ substantially from their subsequent experiences, creating adjustment challenges. Guided by Tinto's Theory of Student Integration and Educational Transition Theory, this study explored first-year students' expectations. It examined how students perceived and experienced mismatches between these expectations and the realities of university life. The study adopted an interpretivist qualitative research paradigm and an exploratory descriptive design. Data were collected through three focus group discussions with 21 purposively selected first-year students at a comprehensive university in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. They were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. The findings revealed an expectation–reality mismatch in three areas: social integration and peer relationships, course selection and academic guidance, and academic workload alongside self-directed learning demands. Participants who identified as first-generation students described experiencing additional transition difficulties, which they associated with limited social and cultural capital, inadequate career guidance, and low digital literacy. Participants also associated persistent socioeconomic inequality with these difficulties. The study concludes that expectation–reality mismatch is a psychologically meaningful mechanism through which structural inequality translates into experiences of uncertainty, diminished belonging, and academic disengagement during the first year. Strengthened orientation, mentoring, academic advising, and digital literacy support are recommended to improve student adjustment, engagement, and retention.
This study aims to examine the impact of parental involvement and socioeconomic status (SES) on academic achievement at public senior high schools in Tangerang Municipality. The study used a cross-sectional survey design. The study population consisted of students from public senior high schools in Tangerang Municipality. We applied Weighted Regression analysis utilizing a sample size of 893 participants. We used a validated questionnaire that was distributed via WhatsApp groups. The findings showed that parents with high SES tended to be more involved in their children's learning; however, high parental SES did not guarantee high academic achievement for their children. The mean difference tests revealed that academic achievement did not differ significantly by parental involvement, whereas it did differ significantly by parental SES. Researchers also found that parents’ involvement in education significantly boosted students' academic achievement. In contrast, parents' SES did not have a significant impact. Intensive discussions, good communication, full attention, giving gifts, and providing learning facilities are effective parental involvement actions that encourage increases in children's academic achievement. Parental involvement matters more than parental SES in improving students’ academic achievement. Therefore, maintaining strong relationships between schools and parents is essential to support students’ educational outcomes. Local governments need to strengthen regulations governing parents' roles at home and at school. Keywords: academic achievement, parental involvement, SES.
Traditional games offer accessible opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and the introduction of local cultural practices among elementary school children. This study aimed to describe the implementation of PETRA AKTIF, a community service program introducing traditional games as alternative physical activities for elementary school students. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the program involved 28 third-grade students from Public Elementary School 3 Plumbon, Karanganyar Regency, Indonesia. Four traditional games were introduced: hopscotch, jump rope, fortress, and dragon snake. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, and activity documentation and subsequently analyzed descriptively. Student satisfaction was assessed using a five-level response scale. The findings revealed that students participated in various physical movements, including jumping, walking, running, and balancing. Group activities also demonstrated observable communication, cooperation, coordination, and adherence to game rules. Satisfaction assessments indicated that 25–27 of the 28 participants reported being satisfied or very satisfied with each game. Furthermore, the activities provided students with direct exposure to traditional games as expressions of local wisdom. These findings suggest that PETRA AKTIF provides opportunities for physical engagement, peer interaction, and cultural familiarization, although improvements in physical fitness and social skills were not directly measured.
Abstract Despite decades of effort to improve mathematical outcomes, studies examining the integrated roles of affective dimensions such as confidence, perceived value, and motivation in relation to mathematics achievement among Senior High School students in Ghana remain relatively limited. In this study, confidence was operationalised through items reflecting students’ domain-specific mathematics self-efficacy beliefs. This study examines the structural associations of confidence, perceived value, and motivation with self-reported mathematics achievement among final-year students in a selected Senior High School in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipal Assembly of Ghana. A quantitative descriptive correlational design was employed, and data were collected from 296 students using a structured questionnaire. Self-reported mathematics achievement was measured using students’ responses to items concerning their perceived achievement in mathematics, rather than standardised test scores or school achievement records. The hypothesised structural relationships among confidence, perceived value, motivation, and self-reported mathematics achievement were examined using structural equation modelling (SEM). Within the participating school, the results showed that confidence, perceived value, and motivation were each positively and significantly associated with self-reported mathematics achievement, with confidence having the largest standardised coefficient, followed by motivation and value. Given these findings, instructional practices that support students’ confidence may be considered in mathematics teaching. Likewise, opportunities to connect mathematics with real-world applications may help students recognise its value, while supportive learning environments may provide conditions conducive to sustained engagement with mathematics learning.
Students’ learning outcomes in Informatics remain a challenge when conventional instructional media offer limited interaction, contributing to passive engagement and difficulties understanding learning materials. This study examined changes in Grade X students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of Wordwall-assisted interactive learning media for the Computer Systems topic at SMAN 1 Sawahlunto, Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 30 students from class X E4. Students completed a multiple-choice achievement test before instruction, participated in Computer Systems learning activities supported by Wordwall, and completed a posttest afterward. The intervention incorporated game-based activities to support practice and engagement; however, the research records did not specify its duration. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test, with normalized gain (N-Gain) used to assess the level of improvement. The mean score increased from 53.67 on the pretest to 77.67 on the posttest, a difference of 24.00 points. The paired-samples t-test identified a statistically significant difference between scores (t = 8.664, df = 29, p < 0.001). The mean N-Gain was 0.538, indicating moderate improvement. These results show that students’ scores were higher after the Wordwall-assisted learning intervention. Nevertheless, the study did not include a control group, the observed change cannot be attributed to Wordwall alone; instructional or testing-related factors may also have contributed. Wordwall therefore be considered a useful supplementary medium for Informatics instruction, while further studies using control groups, larger samples, and documented intervention durations are needed to strengthen conclusions about its effectiveness.

Moral education of the individual is a complex and multifaceted process that includes pedagogical and social phenomena. However, the process of moral education is to some extent autonomous. Moral education is effectively carried out only as a holistic pedagogical process that meets the norms of universal morality, the organization of all life and student life, including modern youth. As well as activities, relationships, communication, taking into account their age and individual characteristics. The result of a holistic process is the formation of a morally whole personality, in the unity of its consciousness, moral feelings, conscience, moral will, skills, habits, socially valuable behavior. Moral education includes: the formation of students’ awareness of their connection with society, dependence on it, the need to coordinate their behavior with the interests of society; familiarization with moral ideals, requirements of society, proof of their legitimacy and reasonableness; transformation of moral knowledge into moral beliefs, creation of a system of these beliefs; formation of stable moral feelings, high culture of behavior as one of the main manifestations of respect for people; formation of moral skills. The content of education is understood as a system of knowledge, beliefs, skills, qualities and personality traits, stable behavioral habits that students should possess in accordance with the set goals and objectives. In today’s rapidly changing world, the ability to be independent and self-sufficient is increasingly recognized as a vital skill for success in various areas of life, including education. This is especially true for first-year university students, as they transition from the structured environment of high school to the more autonomous and demanding world of higher education. Developing independence skills in these students is crucial for their adaptation to the university environment and overall personal and academic growth. The concept of independence encompasses various aspects, including the development of autonomy and the development of skills that enable students to navigate the complexities of university life. Autonomy refers to the ability to make decisions, take initiative, and act independently, while the development of independence skills involves acquiring the necessary competencies to function effectively in the educational environment. The state of knowledge regarding the development of independence skills in first-year students is an area of ongoing research. Understanding the factors that contribute to the development of independence in students is essential for supporting them during this transition and enriching their overall educational experience.

This study was motivated by the need to develop learning approaches that encourage active student engagement in understanding pre-production materials in the Fundamentals of Film Studies subject at vocational high schools. Conventional instruction needs to be examined in comparison with learning models that provide students with opportunities to study materials independently before participating in classroom activities. This study aimed to determine the difference in learning outcomes between students taught using the Flipped Classroom model and those taught through conventional instruction in Grade X of the Film Production program at SMK Negeri 1 Ngasem. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design was employed. The participants consisted of 68 students, comprising 35 students from class X PF 2 as the experimental group and 33 students from class X PF 3 as the control group. Data were collected through pretests and posttests. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The Mann–Whitney U test yielded a significance value of p < 0.001, with a mean rank of 50.29 for the experimental group and 17.76 for the control group. These findings indicate a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups, with the experimental group demonstrating a higher mean rank than the control group. Therefore, the Flipped Classroom model has the potential to serve as an alternative instructional approach to support students’ learning outcomes in film pre-production. Nevertheless, these findings should be interpreted in consideration of the quasi-experimental design and the possibility of differences in students’ initial abilities between the groups. This study aims to apply the Project Based Learning model to improve the learning outcomes of Saman Dance among class XI students of SMA Mamiyai Al-Ittihadiyah Medan, based on KD 3.1 “concepts, techniques, and procedures” in the 2013 curriculum. The sample was determined using the Purposive Sampling method through a quantitative descriptive approach, using a 20-question pretest-posttest given to 28 class XI IPA students, with observation, documentation, and literature study as data collection techniques. The study was conducted in 6 meetings to produce a presentation project analyzing Saman Dance. The pretest, given before the Project Based Learning model was used, had an average score of 41, while the posttest after its application had an average score of 86. The t-test shows that t-count = 27.192 > t-table = 1.703 (df = 27, α = 0.05), so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, applying the Project Based Learning model improves Saman Dance learning outcomes among class XI students of SMA Mamiyai Al-Ittihadiyah Medan.
The article analyzes the process of development and initiation of creative abilities at various stages of profession-oriented foreign language training for technical university students. Each stage of foreign language training is described by key characteristics that contribute to the development of students’ creative abilities in a non-linguistic university. The process of developing students’ creative abilities is a hierarchical one. Each stage of foreign language training serves as a preparatory step for the development and initiation of the student's creative abilities.
Secondary students in Malaysia turn away from STEM partly because the curriculum content is abstract and disconnected from real life. This mixed-methods study evaluated a Student-as-Trendsetter framework in which 10 gifted students codesigned 3D-printed STEM kits and mentored 88 peers. The classroom participants highly rated the peer-led sessions (M = 4.14–4.57), including the trendsetters’ expertise (M = 4.35). The trendsetters’ self-rated technical competency decreased significantly after the project (from 4.30–4.90 to 1.80–3.00; p < .001). Reflective journals showed that this decline was a healthy recalibration: moving from digital design to physical fabrication exposed real engineering constraints and built grounded, resilient confidence. The framework offers a low-cost route to engaging in student-led STEM learning.
The massive penetration of digital transactions among adolescents presents real financial vulnerability due to low understanding of Islamic economic contracts and ethics. Conventional fiqh learning is often isolated in textual normative memorization without honing students' critical reasoning skills against contemporary realities. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the learning of Fiqh Muamalah and its impact on strengthening students' critical reasoning and sharia financial literacy on digital economy issues. The research design adopts a qualitative approach with a bounded system case study at SMK Darul Musyawirin Cirebon. The research participants include Fiqh Muamalah teachers, vice principals for curriculum, and grade XI students who are directly involved in the learning cycle. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured in-depth interviews, classroom participatory observations, and review of learning portfolio documentation. Data analysis was carried out cyclically through an interactive model of open coding-based data reduction, presentation of thematic matrix data, and conclusion drawing and verification that were validated through source triangulation, member check, and trail audit. The results of the study revealed that organizing learning through the stages of authentic problem orientation (such as paylater, online loans, and digital investment), legal literature investigation, intergroup discussion-rebuttal dialectic, and value reflection succeeded in transforming students' mindsets from textual-reproductive reasoning to contextual-analytic based on postulates. Students showed a surge in competence in distinguishing murabahah margins from time-based interest, identifying the elements of riba, gharar, and maisir, and compiling simple legal arguments of istinbath al-ahkam. In addition, the structural understanding was internalized into behavioral financial literacy that encourages transaction prudence and verification of sharia legality. This instructional model proves that the integration of real issues of the digital economy into the PBL syntax effectively bridges classical fiqh doctrine with modern challenges, while offering a transformative pedagogical framework for vocational Islamic education curriculum.
The authenticity of Islamic Religious Education in elementary schools faces significant contemporary challenges, shifting from transformative character building toward mechanical cognitive memorization. This study aims to re-actualize the core principles of authentic moral learning through a mindful, meaningful, and joyful paradigm tailored for elementary school students. Using a literature study approach with critical-qualitative analysis, this research examines classical and contemporary pedagogical frameworks to synthesize an integrated moral education model. The findings indicate that mindful learning enhances students' self-awareness and spiritual presence, meaningful learning connects religious doctrines with daily life experiences, and joyful learning fosters intrinsic motivation and emotional well-being. Synthesizing these three elements restores the authenticity of IRE, transforming moral learning from rigid doctrinal instruction into a living, transformative spiritual and ethical experience.
Research on fitrah-based education is mostly conceptual or situated in early childhood and primary schools; its implementation in junior high schools bound by the national curriculum remains underexplored. This qualitative case study describes the forms of implementation, strategies for developing students' academic and spiritual potential, supporting and inhibiting factors, and implications for students at SMP Ar-Rauf Tangerang. Data came from interviews with seven informants, observation, and documents, analyzed with the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model. Four forms of implementation emerged: an integrated curriculum, learning centered on students' uniqueness, narrative assessment (Rapor Fitrah), and a nurturing school culture. Potential was developed through talent mapping, personalized Qur'an memorization, nature-based entrepreneurship, and differentiated instruction. Educator vision, parental involvement, and the environment supported implementation; tension with the national curriculum, teacher workload, and varied parental understanding inhibited it. The study proposes the Formal School Fitrah Ecosystem model.
Present study is directed to analizing general and interpersonal awareness among students of humanities, natural sciences and technical types of education (the sample consisted of 391 students aged 18-26 years, 83 % were female). The hypothesis of a higher level of mindfulness among students of the humanities was tested. It was revealed that all students, regardless of the field of education, received values of the degree of dispositional and interpersonal mindfulness within the average values. Statistically significant lower status of the components of mindfulness Observativon and Attention to self and others were revealed in students of the technical profile. The results obtained open up horizons for further research on the development of mindfulness within the framework of educational practices.
Academic stress is a significant psychological and educational concern among undergraduate students because university study involves high academic workload, frequent examinations, strict performance expectations, overlapping deadlines, adjustment to new learning environments, and crucial decisions about future careers. Anxiety may increase substantially when students perceive academic demands as exceeding their available coping resources, whereas self-efficacy refers to students' internal beliefs about their capability to successfully organize and execute courses of action required to manage academic tasks. The present study proposes to examine the complex relationship among academic stress, anxiety, and self-efficacy among undergraduate students. A quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational research design will be used. Undergraduate students meeting the inclusion criteria will be recruited using an appropriate non-probability sampling technique. Data will be collected using a demographic information sheet and standardized self-report measures of academic stress, anxiety, and general/academic self-efficacy. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression will be used to examine the study variables. The findings may assist counselling psychologists, student-support services, faculty members, and educational institutions in identifying modifiable psychological factors relevant to undergraduate adjustment.
Background: Digital devices have become very important in education. Students are increasingly spending their time on screen for education and other use. However, prolonged screen exposure has led to increasing complaints of digital eye strain, an emerging public health concern. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 165 undergraduate medical students in a tertiary care centre. A pilot studied; semi-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was entered in Microsoft excel and analysed. Results: The prevalence of digital eye strain among undergraduate medical students was found to be 52.7%. Most common symptom noted were Headache (68.5%), Itching (60.6%), tearing of eyes (58.1%). There was a significant association between the duration of mobile screen usage (>4 hours) and digital eye strain (p value=0.0303). Conclusions: Digital eye strain is a common health concern among medical students. Higher the hours of mobile screen use, greater is the risk of digital eye strain.
Introduction: Suicidal behaviors among adolescents are increasing globally, yet the differences between educational levels remain unclear, which hinders the design of specific prevention strategies. Objective: To compare suicidal behaviors (ideation, risk factors, and depression) between middle school and high school students in Pachuca and San Agustín Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Methodology: A quantitative, cross-sectional, comparative, non-experimental study was conducted with 38 students (20 middle school students, 18 high school students) aged 14 to 18 years. Three instruments were applied: a test to assess the risk level of suicidal ideation and behavior, a risk factor guide, and the PHQ-9 depression questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: Middle school students had a higher proportion of high risk for suicidal behaviors (30.00%) compared to high school students (5.56%). A high level of depression was found only in high school seniors (11.11%). Both groups showed similar proportions of high risk based on risk factors (25.00% in middle school and 22.22% in high school). A significant positive correlation (ρ = 0.52) was found between suicidal thoughts and risk factors (p < 0.05). The Mann-Whitney U test revealed no significant differences between groups. (U = 145.5; p = 0.312). Conclusions: Although no statistically significant differences were found between educational levels and the groups were confounded by institution, municipality, and age, a trend toward a higher proportion of high risk for suicidal behaviors was observed in middle school students and of high depression in high school students. These findings should be interpreted with caution and support the need for prevention programs tailored to each educational level, to be confirmed in studies with greater statistical power and adjustment for confounders.
Collaboration skills and learning outcomes are important aspects that support students’ success in science learning. However, these competencies are often not optimally developed through conventional learning approaches. This study aimed to examine the level, improvement, and significance of the increase in collaboration skills and learning outcomes of Grade VIII students at SMPN 27 Makassar through the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) model assisted by Sketchfab. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 34 students from Class VIII.10 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a collaboration skills questionnaire and a learning outcomes test and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the average collaboration skills score increased from 61.06 to 73.91, while the average learning outcomes score increased from 8.26 to 11.97. The N-Gain values indicated a moderate improvement in collaboration skills (0.32) and learning outcomes (0.55). In addition, the t-test results revealed a statistically significant increase in both variables (p < 0.05). Therefore, the STAD model assisted by Sketchfab can effectively enhance students’ collaboration skills and learning outcomes in science learning.
Digital technologies have become integral to higher education, yet the psychological strain they create for students is still poorly understood from the students’ own perspective, particularly in developing countries. This qualitative study explored university students lived experiences of digital stress (used interchangeably with technology stress and technostress to denote stress arising from digital devices and technology-based academic systems), including its sources, psychological impacts, and coping strategies. A phenomenological qualitative design was employed. Fifteen students (7 male, 8 females; aged 19–28 years) enrolled in BS, MS/MPhil, and PhD programmes at public and private universities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Pakistan, were selected through purposive sampling and interviewed using semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The data were analysed using the thematic analysis approach of Braun and Clarke (2006). Five themes were identified: (1) Academic Digital Overload, (2) Technological Anxiety and Uncertainty, (3) Emotional and Cognitive Exhaustion, (4) Constant Connectivity Pressure, and (5) Coping Strategies for Digital Stress. Students described managing multiple platforms and a continuous digital workload, fear of technical failure during examinations and submissions, mental fatigue, reduced concentration and irritability, and an expectation of being permanently available. Despite these stressors, students used time management, digital breaks, and peer support to cope. Interpreted through Technostress Theory and the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping, the findings show that digital stress is a multidimensional phenomenon shaped by academic demands, technological environments, and coping resources. Universities should develop student-centred digital learning systems that reduce technology-induced stress and promote psychological well-being.
Background Insomnia and poor sleep are highly prevalent among university students and are linked to impaired mental and physical health, reduced cognitive functioning, and lower academic performance. Existing interventions for insomnia include cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), mindfulness, and sleep hygiene. CBT-I is widely recognised as effective but remains difficult to access for the general population and lack scalability, long-term follow-up, and feasibility in non-clinical settings. Pragmatic, group-based approaches that can be delivered within the university and are tailored to help students develop self-endorsed routines and competencies for better sleep, creating sustainable changes that extend beyond the program period, is needed. Methods This study is a pragmatic, two-arm randomised controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of a group-based sleep program for university students with insomnia symptoms. A total of 118 full-time students aged 18–30 meeting diagnostic criteria for chronic insomnia disorder will be randomized (1:1) to either the intervention or a wait-list control group. The intervention comprises 12 weekly 90-minute group sessions followed by nine monthly follow-up meetings, facilitated by trained coaches. The program integrates core elements of CBT-I with motivational and coping strategies, delivered in an interactive and peer-supported format. The primary outcome is change in insomnia severity measured by the Bergen Insomnia Scale. Secondary outcomes include subjective and objective sleep measures, mental health, cognitive performance, academic attainment, health behaviours, physical fitness, and biological markers. Assessments will be conducted at baseline, post-program (12 weeks), and 12 months. A mixed methods process evaluation will assess fidelity, acceptability, mechanisms of impact, and contextual influences. Discussion This trial will be among the first pragmatic evaluations of a structured, group-based sleep intervention tailored to university students with insomnia. Key strengths include the randomised controlled design, comprehensive outcome assessment, 12-month follow-up, and embedded process evaluation. If effective, the program could provide a feasible, scalable, and cost-effective model to improve sleep and therein health, and academic performance in young adults in higher education.
The rapid growth of social media has transformed communication and information sharing; however, excessive use can promote procrastination and avoidance of academic tasks, contributing to increased test anxiety among students. This study explores how social media use and procrastination contribute to test anxiety among the said population. A cross-sectional design was employed with sample of 284 university students (M = 110, F = 160) with a mean X age=20.8 years selected through convenience. Social media was measured through Social Media Use Questionnaire (Xanidis and Brignell, 2016), procrastination was assessed using the Lay Procrastination Scale (Lay, 1986) and test anxiety was evaluated by Westside Test Anxiety Scale (Driscoll, 2004). Data was analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. The results revealed significant positive correlation between social media use, procrastination, and test anxiety. Regression analysis showed that both the use of social media and procrastination significantly forecasted test anxiety, indicating that an increased occurrence of problematic digital engagement and reduced self-control leads to academic stress. These findings highlight the fact that university-level interventions encourage healthier digital habits and stronger individual control of students. Also, it emphasizes the need for parents and educators to promote effective study habits and self-regulation, as excessive social media use limits students’ available study time.
Background Over 15 million plastic surgeries and 19 million non-plastic aesthetic procedures were carried out globally between 2020 and 2023, representing a substantial growth of more than 40%, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). The purpose of this study was to ascertain the degree of propensity for cosmetic surgery among Khoy University of Medical Sciences students and investigate its associations with demographic features, the frequency of watching content related to beauty (per day), perceived body image, and self-esteem. Materials and methods This analytical cross-sectional study included 196 students from Khoy University of Medical Sciences, selected via convenience sampling for the 2024–2025 academic year. Valid and reliable questionnaires were used to gather data: 69 items on perceived body image, 10 items on self-esteem, and 24 items on tendency toward cosmetic surgery. Multiple linear regression, ANOVA, and independent t-tests were used to analyze the data in SPSS version 26. Results The mean age of participants was 23 years. The majority were female (86%), single (94%), enrolled in health and basic sciences (43%), at the bachelor level (75%), and reported a monthly income of more than 300 million Iranian Rials (52%). No statistically significant differences were observed between demographic features and mean tendency toward cosmetic surgery (P > 0.05). However, a high frequency of watching beauty‑related content per day (β = 10.06, P < 0.001) and low self‑esteem (β = −1.25, P < 0.001) were significantly associated with a greater tendency toward cosmetic surgery. Conclusion Students’ tendency toward cosmetic surgery is influenced by their self-esteem, and even the frequency of exposure to beauty-related content.
This research explores the critical intersection of consistency, standards and complexity in academic assessment integrity using focus groups consisting of academic staff and undergraduate nursing students. While academic quality standards are mandated by accreditation bodies to ensure accountability and skill acquisition, the marking process remains a complex, intuitive task heavily reliant on a marker's experience and practicality. Significant challenges arise when marking becomes overly criteria-driven at the expense of core assessment goals, leading to variability in judging relevant student ideas or specific technical skills such as referencing. Such variability undermines the reliability and objectivity essential for assessment fairness. To mitigate these risks, pre-marking meetings are identified as essential for establishing shared requirements and expectations among staff. Strategic timing of these supports, ideally pre-semester, provides the necessary framework for quality assurance and enables markers to make meaningful and accurate judgements regarding a student’s true knowledge and performance. Background: Examinations can trigger stress related to performance expectations, uncertainty, and the consequences of receiving a particular grade. Stress may be especially salient for students seeking the highest grade and for students who need a minimum passing grade to complete a course. Objective: To outline a comparative investigation of pre-examination stress among students at Gori State University and European University, with particular attention to students aiming for an A (91–100 points) and students for whom an E-range result (51–60 points) may be sufficient to complete the subject. Methods: The proposed cross-sectional study includes 50 students, 25 from each university. A brief questionnaire should record perceived stress before the examination, grade-related expectations, perceived consequences of the result, and basic demographic/academic variables. Results: The numerical example in this draft is illustrative only and does not represent verified participant data. It demonstrates a reporting structure in which stress scores are compared by university and by grade-related concern. Conclusion: Grade-related expectations and fear of failing may represent different pathways to examination stress. Actual conclusions require analysis of the completed dataset.
Background: Examination periods can coincide with psychological stress, sleep difficulties, and uncertainty about academic performance. Students may continue to feel tense while waiting for results or further assessment, particularly when they are unsure how well they answered the examination questions. Objective: To describe students’ reported stress and sleep difficulties before and after examinations at Gori State University and European University, and to explore themes appearing in anonymous open-ended questionnaire responses. Methods: The study is described as a comparative questionnaire study involving 50 students, with 25 participants from each university. Anonymous questionnaires were administered before and after an examination. The questionnaire asked about stress, sleep, feeling tired or sleepless, waiting for further assessment or results, and students’ perceptions of how they had answered the test. Results: The preliminary account supplied for this draft indicates that sleep difficulty associated with stress and concern while waiting for further assessment were recurring concerns in open-ended responses. The initial estimate was approximately 5% of students reporting satisfaction with their answers. With 50 participants, the closest possible whole-person counts are 2 students (4%) or 3 students (6%); the original questionnaires must be checked to establish which count is correct. No further frequency estimates or statistical tests are reported because participant-level data were not provided for analysis. Conclusion: Anonymous pre- and post-examination questionnaires may help educators identify students’ concerns about sleep, stress, and uncertainty. Findings should be interpreted as preliminary until response counts, scoring procedures, ethics information, and the exact number of students reporting satisfaction are verified.
Student retention, graduation, and employment are major outcomes in higher education. They reflect the effectiveness of the institution in shaping the future workforce. Thus, this study examined undergraduate retention, graduation, and employment in 2020-2024. The method applied was Vocational Intensive Mentoring, consisting of intensive technical guidance (technical coaching) and independent competency test simulations with service excellence role-play involving lecturers and peer student tutors. Evaluation results demonstrated a significant increase in material comprehension, with average post-test scores exceeding 80. Furthermore, a 100% passing rate was achieved (95 out of 95 students were declared competent), successfully producing systematic executive work agenda drafts and accurate financial reports following junior accounting technician standards. In conclusion, this simulation mentorship not only achieved the 100% passing rate target but also fostered a strategic mindset and digital proficiency relevant to modern workforce requirements.
This community service initiative aims to provide a platform for students to actualize their religious potential and to strengthen their religious literacy and character through an Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Performance. The activity employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, encompassing planning, action, and reflection (evaluation). It was held from September 10–16, 2026, at the Ki Hajar Dewantara Building in Aikmel District, East Lombok, involving 32 elementary schools and 143 students comprising 65 speech contestants, 44 Quran recitation participants, and 34 PAI Olympiad competitors. The results indicate that the three competition categories provided avenues for demonstrating religious capabilities through communication, Quranic recitation skills, and mastery of PAI knowledge. The event also fostered traits such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, perseverance, adherence to rules, and sportsmanship through the experience of competition. Future initiatives should focus on sustained guidance and systematic evaluation to measure the development of students' religious literacy and character in a more targeted and continuous manner.
Students' ability to read the Qur'an and memorize short surahs at MI Muhammadiyah Sidorejo remains low. This condition is reflected in inaccurate hijaiyah letter pronunciation, limited reading fluency, and difficulties in memorizing short surahs accurately. An initial assessment of 32 students showed an average group score of 75. Method: The mentoring program was conducted over two months and involved 32 students and relevant school stakeholders in identifying learning needs, planning activities, implementing interventions, observing progress, and reflecting on the results. The talaqqi method was used through reading demonstrations, imitation, and direct correction, while tikrar was applied through repeated recitation to strengthen memorization. Data were collected through observation, practical assessments, and documentation, then analyzed by comparing average scores before and after the program. Findings: The average group score increased from 75 to 90, representing a 15-point difference or a 20% relative increase from the initial score. Conclusion: Structured mentoring through talaqqi and tikrar can support the development of Qur'anic reading and short-surah memorization skills. Novelty/Originality: This program integrates reading guidance and memorization practice into a single activity and documents its implementation and outcomes through observations and pre- and post-program score comparisons
ABSTRACT Short story writing instruction among eighth-grade students at SMP NW Aikmual faces several challenges, including generating ideas, developing thoughts, selecting appropriate words, accessing reading references, and maintaining concentration. This study aims to describe the teacher’s role in supporting the development of students’ short story writing skills and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in the learning process. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving seven informants selected through purposive sampling, comprising one Indonesian language teacher and six eighth-grade students directly involved in short story writing activities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the teacher acts as a facilitator by providing learning materials and short story examples, a motivator through encouragement and appreciation, a mentor by guiding students in generating ideas and developing stories, and an evaluator by providing corrections and feedback. Supporting factors include teacher guidance, student motivation, and the availability of learning resources, while inhibiting factors include difficulties in developing ideas, limited vocabulary and reading references, and concentration problems. These findings indicate that targeted and continuous teacher support helps facilitate the short story writing process according to students’ needs. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the PJBL model with a scientific approach that influences student learning outcomes. The method used in this study is a literature study by collecting and analyzing various previous research sources related to the implementation of PjBL in elementary schools. This literature study focuses on how PjBL can develop students' cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social-emotional skills. The results of the study show that PjBL through a scientific approach can increase students' interest, motivation, and learning outcomes. This model encourages students to collaborate, think critically, and actively engage in real projects that are relevant to everyday life. However, there are several challenges in its implementation. The success of this model requires support from good time management, teacher guidance, and adequate facilities.
This study assessed the socio-demographic profile and level of Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) functional literacy among senior high school students as a basis for developing a work readiness intervention program. Specifically, it examined the respondents’ profiles in terms of age, sex, general academic performance, and availability of TLE-related tools at home, as well as their level of functional literacy in technology and engineering design, food and nutrition, financial literacy, entrepreneurial competence, and agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness. A descriptive research design was employed involving 406 senior high school students. Data were gathered using a validated researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean. Findings showed that the majority of respondents were 17–18 years old, with male students slightly outnumbering female students. Most respondents demonstrated favorable academic performance, with the largest proportion obtaining grades of 90 and above. In terms of available TLE-related resources at home, students had greater access to common cooking and household tools than to sewing and agricultural equipment. The findings further revealed varying levels of TLE functional literacy across the identified domains. Technology and engineering design literacy, food and nutrition literacy, and financial literacy were assessed as Needs Improvement, indicating areas requiring strengthened practical knowledge and skills. Agricultural literacy and agri-tech awareness reflected a relatively higher level of performance, while entrepreneurial competence was assessed as Very Satisfactory, indicating a notable strength among the respondents. Based on these findings, a work readiness intervention program entitled “Ready for Work: A Work Readiness Intervention Program for Enhancing TLE Functional Literacy among Senior High School Students” was proposed to address identified areas for improvement through hands-on, skill-based, and experiential learning activities. The study concludes that although students demonstrate strengths in entrepreneurial competence and academic performance, targeted instructional support and practical learning opportunities are needed to strengthen TLE functional literacy relevant to employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. It is recommended that schools provide structured work readiness interventions, expand opportunities for experiential and hands-on learning, and integrate practical financial, technological, and livelihood skills into TLE instruction to better prepare students for future work environments.
Background Sleep problems are common among university students due to academic stress, lifestyle factors, and psychological distress and may adversely affect physical and mental health, academic performance, and social functioning. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have increasingly been used as a non-pharmacological approach to improve sleep health; however, previous findings remain inconsistent, and evidence specifically addressing sleep quality in university students remains limited. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of MBIs on sleep quality in university students and explore factors that may account for variations in intervention effects. Methods We searched seven databases—PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, Embase, and ScienceDirect—from inception to June 26, 2026. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating MBIs for sleep quality in university students were included. Two reviewers independently conducted study selection, data extraction, and risk-of-bias assessment using the RoB 2 tool. Meta-analysis was conducted in Stata 17.0 using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, publication bias assessment, and GRADE assessment were also performed. Results Ten RCTs involving 638 university students were included, with 335 participants in the intervention groups and 303 in the control groups. MBIs significantly improved sleep quality [SMD = −0.97, 95% CI (−1.43, −0.51), p < 0.001], although substantial heterogeneity was observed ( I 2 = 85.1%). Subgroup analyses revealed statistically significant between-group differences with respect to sleep-outcome measurement instrument ( p = 0.001), intervention type ( p = 0.009), and session duration ( p = 0.030), indicating that these variables may partially account for the observed heterogeneity. Sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of the pooled results. Egger’s test revealed no evidence of significant publication bias ( p = 0.270). The certainty of the evidence was rated as low according to the GRADE framework. Conclusion MBIs may improve sleep quality in university students. However, given the substantial heterogeneity and low certainty of evidence, further high-quality RCTs are needed to confirm these findings. Aim and background: Sleep is a biological necessity essential for physical and mental well-being, yet many young adults, particularly college students, experience sleep disruptions due to major life changes and poor sleep hygiene. This study aimed to identify the determinants of insomnia among undergraduate female students in a rural area of Haryana.Materials and methods: A mixed-method study was conducted between May 2024 and May 2025 involving 340 undergraduate female students.Quantitative data were collected using a semi-structured socio-demographic questionnaire and the insomnia severity index (ISI).Qualitative insights were gathered through in-depth interviews (IDI) with 15 students identified with clinically significant insomnia.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 26, with significance set at p < 0.05.Results: The prevalence of clinically significant insomnia in the cohort was 5.6% (n = 19).Quantitative analysis revealed that the participant's state of origin was the only statistically significant socio-demographic determinant (p = 0.031).Students from states other than Haryana reported a significantly higher insomnia prevalence (12.5%) compared to those from Haryana (4.2%).Factors such as age, socio-economic status, and type of occupancy showed no significant correlation.Qualitative themes highlighted academic performance, overuse of electronic devices, social environment, and psycho-social stress as primary triggers. Conclusion: While the prevalence of insomnia is relatively low, it is significantly driven by academic transitions, excessive screen time, and communal living challenges.A notable awareness-action gap exists, as students recognize the importance of sleep but prefer self-management or mindfulness over professional clinical help.
Bullying remains a concern at SDN Sindangsono because teasing and name-calling occur in student interactions, while students’ understanding of the forms of bullying is still limited. This community service activity aimed to describe bullying prevention education through a participatory approach for third- and fourth-grade students. The activity involved 64 students, consisting of 34 third-grade and 30 fourth-grade students, and included an initial question-and-answer session, presentation of learning materials, an educational video, discussion, sharing session, written reflection, oral evaluation, and a joint commitment. Evaluation was conducted through the initial question-and-answer session and oral evaluation. At the beginning of the activity, students’ responses were more focused on physical bullying. Fifteen students (23.4%) voluntarily stated that they had engaged in actions they understood as bullying, while all participants stated that they had experienced feeling bullied, mainly through teasing and name-calling. After the activity, students’ responses began to include verbal, social, and social media-related forms of bullying, accompanied by reflective responses regarding peer interactions. All participants also took part in a joint commitment to prevent bullying. The activity indicated a broader understanding of bullying, the emergence of reflection, and student participation in bullying prevention.
Purpose Academic procrastination (AP) is a pervasive self-regulatory problem that undermines students’ academic functioning and psychological well-being. This study examined the direct and indirect relationships between growth and fixed mindsets, internal and external locus of control, and AP in sports science students. Method Internal and external locus of control were tested as parallel mediators in separate growth and fixed mindset models. A cross-sectional predictive design was employed with 544 undergraduate sports science students in Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye. Participants completed measures of mindset, locus of control, and AP. Parallel mediation analyses were conducted using PROCESS Macro (Model 4) with 5,000 bootstrap samples, controlling for age and gender. Results The direct effects indicated that a growth mindset was negatively associated with AP, whereas a fixed mindset was positively associated with AP. A growth mindset was positively associated with an internal locus of control and negatively associated with an external locus of control, whereas a fixed mindset was negatively associated with an internal locus of control and positively associated with an external locus of control. An external locus of control was positively associated with AP and significantly mediated the relationships between both mindset dimensions and AP. In contrast, the internal locus of control did not significantly mediate either relationship. Male students reported higher AP levels than female students, and age was negatively associated with AP. Conclusion These findings suggest that an external locus of control is a key behavioral mechanism linking mindset beliefs to AP. Interventions targeting maladaptive external control beliefs may help reduce AP among sports science students.
Purpose To investigate the longitudinal relationship between university students’ subjective exercise experiences and their physical exercise behavior using a cross-lagged research design, and to analyze the moderating role of motivational beliefs in this relationship. Methods A one-year, two-stage longitudinal questionnaire survey was conducted among 422 university students in Jiangxi Province (52.6% male, mean age = 18.29 ± 0.632 years) using the Subjective Exercise Experience Scale, the Adolescent Physical Activity Scale, the Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale and the Perceived Value of Exercise Scale. Results (1) Gender differences were observed in both subjective exercise experience and physical exercise behavior across the two phases; male participants scored higher on average than female participants across all measures. (2) There was a significant positive correlation between subjective exercise experience and physical exercise behavior among university students. (3) Results from a cross-lagged model controlling for gender indicated that subjective exercise experience at T1 significantly and positively predicted physical exercise behavior at T2 ( β = 0.385, p < 0.001), and physical exercise behavior at T1 significantly and positively predicted subjective exercise experience at T2 ( β = 0.336, p < 0.001). (4) Motivational beliefs exerted a significant positive moderating effect on both cross-lagged pathways. Conclusion Gender differences exist in both subjective exercise experience and physical exercise behavior among university students; there is a longitudinal relationship across time between subjective exercise experience and physical exercise behavior; and motivational beliefs exert a significant moderating effect on the prospective predictive pathways between subjective exercise experience and physical exercise behavior.
This study aims to explore and analyze effective learning strategies for gifted and talented students in elementary schools. Using a systematic literature review, it identifies the distinctive needs of gifted students and examines appropriate strategies, including curriculum enrichment, curriculum compacting, and acceleration. The findings indicate that gifted students need more challenging and targeted approaches to help them reach their full potential. Dynamic and relevant curriculum development, together with professional teacher training, is essential to creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment. Educational policies should therefore be more responsive to the needs of gifted students.
The research aimed to examine the effects of gamification environments on university students' achievement, flow experiences, and emotional states. This study utilized a mixed-methods design, incorporating a quasi-experimental approach for the quantitative phase and a phenomenological approach for the qualitative phase. The study group consisted of 80 students (Quizizz, n = 32; Quizlet, n = 48) enrolled in the Educational Psychology course at a state university. Data were collected through the Achievement Test, Flow Experience Scale, and Positive and Negative Affect Scale. Both groups showed significant pre-test to post-test gains in achievement, with no significant difference between the two groups. Flow experience was positively correlated with positive emotion in both groups, but with achievement only in the Quizlet group. In the Quizizz group, achievement was moderately and negatively correlated with negative emotion, whereas no such relationship was found in the Quizlet group. No significant relationship was found between achievement and positive emotion in either group. Qualitative findings revealed that students actively engaged in both environments, reported higher motivation, and found learning more enjoyable. However, they experienced the platforms differently. Quizizz users emphasized excitement through competition and scoring, whereas Quizlet users highlighted confidence gained from repetition and individual progress. Overall, these results indicate that gamification tools led to similar achievement gains, but through different flow and emotional processes.
Objectives Cross-cultural equivalence translations of the widely used Implicit Theories of Intelligence Scale (ITIS) into Chinese are limited. Past research has focused on Western educational contexts, and Eastern cultural perspectives have been overlooked. This study aimed to translate and validate the Chinese version of the ITIS, and assess the growth mindset in undergraduate medical students. Methods This study was conducted among final-year undergraduate medical students in Fujian, China. Following forward and back-translation of the Implicit Theories of Intelligence Scale (ITIS), cognitive interviews were conducted with students to assess the clarity and comprehensibility of the translated items, followed by an online survey distributed through medical schools. Construct validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity were evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability (CR), while test–retest reliability was evaluated separately for the Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset dimensions using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results A total of 444 responses were obtained. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a two-factor structure with satisfactory model fit ( χ 2 = 52.293, df = 17, CMIN/DF = 3.076, CFI = 0.984, NFI = 0.977, RFI = 0.962, IFI = 0.984, TLI = 0.974, RMSEA = 0.068, SRMR = 0.059). Standardized factor loadings were satisfactory, while CR values were 0.908 for Fixed Mindset and 0.910 for Growth Mindset, and AVE values were 0.713 and 0.717, respectively, supporting convergent validity. Discriminant validity was supported by the Fornell–Larcker criterion, AVE values exceeding the corresponding maximum shared variance values, and HTMT ratios below 0.90. Test–retest reliability differed between the two dimensions: the Fixed Mindset dimension demonstrated moderate temporal stability (ICC = 0.662, 95% CI: 0.443–0.806), whereas the Growth Mindset dimension showed limited temporal stability (ICC = 0.159, 95% CI: −0.158–0.446). The mean scores for Fixed Mindset items ranged from 2.64 (SD = 1.09) to 2.86 (SD = 1.56), whereas those for Growth Mindset items ranged from 3.81 (SD = 1.16) to 3.96 (SD = 1.21), indicating relatively stronger endorsement of fixed-mindset beliefs in this sample. Conclusions The Chinese version of the ITIS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing the intelligence mindset of medical students.
Pesantren-based madrasahs may organize religious and general learning through two configurations, separated and integrated, yet students' experiences under the two configurations are rarely compared sequentially within one institution. Prior studies mostly address the epistemological and curricular dimensions of knowledge integration, while students' experiences under both configurations have not been compared directly. This study compares academic achievement, religious understanding, and student well-being between the cohort of students who studied under the separated system and the cohort who later studied under the integrated system at MA Khozinatul Ulum Blora, as reported by teachers and students. It uses an embedded case study with two units of analysis. Thirteen informants took part: five students from each cohort, one madrasah diniyah teacher, one general subject teacher, and one deputy head for curriculum. Data came from semi-structured interviews for both cohorts, along with observation and document analysis for the currently running integrated system, analyzed thematically with triangulation. Three differences emerged. Separated-system students described more structured learning, whereas integrated-system students described difficulty keeping focus as the scope of material widened. Broader religious understanding across subjects was described by integrated-system students, while separated-system students tied it to religion class hours. Fatigue was reported more often in the integrated group. The study contributes a comparison of two periods of learning systems within one institution.
This research explores how learning science through Project-Based Learning (PBL) can increase student engagement by influencing student interest and academic performance in the 7th-grade classroom. While elementary students often enjoy science because it is very hands-on, middle school introduces a more structured instruction, which can reduce student motivation and lead to a decrease in engagement. This study sought to understand whether Project-Based Learning (PBL) could help bridge the gap between engagement and rigor. PBL provides students with opportunities to explore authentic, real-world problems, collaborate with peers, and apply scientific concepts in meaningful contexts. Students actively construct knowledge through inquiry, experimentation, and reflection. These elements align closely with the goals of middle school science education—to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while maintaining student interest and joy in learning. The study was conducted in two 7th-grade science classrooms, one of which included a dual-language Spanish program. Students participated in science units designed around PBL principles that emphasized inquiry-based projects, collaboration, and student choice. Data were collected using pre- and post-interest surveys and pre- and post-unit assessments to measure shifts in student attitudes, engagement, and academic performance.
The purpose of this action research study was to explore how humorous science books can be purposefully integrated into elementary science instruction to enhance student engagement and conceptual understanding. Participants included nineteen second-grade students, ages seven to eight. The study examined the impact of teacher-led, intentional humor embedded in science texts featuring jokes, playful language, and a narrative voice. Data were collected through pre- and post-surveys assessing students’ understanding of grade-level science concepts, as well as their interest in and enjoyment of science learning. Results indicated that students responded positively to humorous science texts and demonstrated gains in content knowledge. These results suggest that humor can serve as an effective instructional strategy and that engaging, humorous science books can be a meaningful tool in elementary science education.
Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam/SKI) learning requires students to understand values and meaning beyond historical facts, yet empirical explanations of how storytelling connects narratives with students’ meaning-making remain limited. This study analyzes storytelling as a narrative pedagogy practice in SKI learning, identifies its pedagogical potential and limitations in supporting students’ understanding and meaning-making of Islamic historical narratives, and formulates a conceptual model of the meaning-making process emerging from the practice. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed at MA Khozinatul ‘Ulum Blora. Data were obtained from 10 informants, comprising one Grade XI SKI teacher, one vice principal for curriculum affairs, and eight Grade XI students, through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that storytelling was implemented dialogically and adaptively rather than as a stand-alone method, being integrated with teacher explanations, questions, and classroom discussions. The practice supported students’ understanding of historical events, figures, conflicts, and values, while its limitations included students’ perceived difficulty in recalling factual details when narratives were lengthy or contained numerous names and dates, as well as dependence on teacher mediation. Meaning-making developed through narrative understanding, personal reflection, and pedagogical dialogue. The study contributes the Multi-Pathway Meaning-Making model, which conceptualizes storytelling as a trigger for engagement and meaning-making rather than as a single causal mechanism.
This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in Pancasila Education, which was caused by a learning process that had not fully involved students actively. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Role Playing learning strategy and analyze the improvement of students’ learning outcomes after its implementation. The study was conducted at UPTD SD Negeri 074038 TOHIA with 23 fourth-grade students as research subjects. This study employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research instruments consisted of teacher activity observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and learning outcome tests. Data were collected through observation and tests. The results showed that the implementation of the Role Playing strategy improved the quality of the learning process and students’ learning outcomes. Teacher activity increased gradually in each meeting, while student activity also showed increased involvement throughout the learning process. The learning test results showed that the average student score in Cycle I was 63.43 with classical mastery of 39.13%, which increased in Cycle II to 77.17 with classical mastery of 86.95%. This improvement indicates that Role Playing provided students with active, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences that helped them understand Pancasila Education material more effectively. Therefore, the Role Playing learning strategy can be used as an alternative learning strategy to improve students’ learning outcomes in Pancasila Education at the elementary school level.
The increasing use of electrical and electronic devices in students’ daily lives highlights the importance of introducing electrical safety awareness at the high school level. Improper use of electrical installations, such as overloading electrical outlets and using inappropriate components, may increase the risk of short circuits, electric shocks, and fires. Therefore, practical education on safe electrical installation is important to equip students with basic electrical safety knowledge and awareness. The electrical workshop aimed to introduce basic science and technology concepts through a practical workshop on electrical installation safety for students of SMA Yos Sudarso Cilacap. The workshop consisted of theoretical explanations, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and safety simulations covering basic electrical installation principles, component selection, safe assembly, and testing. A total of 35 students participated in the activity. Among the 35 students who completed the questionnaire, 60% reported that they had not previously been familiar with the material, while 91.4% perceived the workshop as beneficial. Observations during the practical session indicated active student participation in assembling simple electrical circuits and applying safety procedures. The activity provided students with practical knowledge and strengthened their awareness of safe electrical installation practices.
This study examines the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by flashcard media to improve third-grade elementary students’ critical thinking skills in Landscape (Bentang Alam) material. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control-group design. The sample consisted of 44 third-grade students from SD Negeri in Semarang, divided into an experimental class (22 students) taught using PBL assisted by flashcards and a control class (22 students) taught using conventional learning. Data were collected using pretest and posttest instruments with 120 multiple-choice items (30 per skill) and analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, paired-sample t-tests, independent-sample t-tests, Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis, and analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with the pretest as the covariate. Because of third-grade students' cognitive capacity, the test was administered in four separate sessions on four different days, with each session lasting approximately 45 minutes. Effect size was reported using Partial Eta Squared to measure the magnitude of the intervention’s impact. Both groups showed increased critical thinking ability after treatment, but the experimental group's increase was significantly higher than the control group's. After controlling for pretest scores, the ANCOVA results showed a significant difference between groups (F = 16989.679; p < .001; η²p = .998), indicating a large effect size. The experimental group's average N-Gain score was 0.7336, categorized as high and fairly effective, while the control group's average was 0.3784, categorized as medium and less effective. The greatest improvement occurred in the analysis and evaluation indicators. Implementing PBL assisted by flashcards effectively improves students’ critical thinking skills on Landscape material, as flashcards function not merely as visual media but as contextual problem triggers integrated into each stage of the PBL syntax. Keywords: problem-based learning, flashcard, critical thinking, landscape, elementary school.
Understanding dynamic electricity is important because students often experience difficulties in understanding the relationships among electric current, voltage, and resistance in series and parallel circuits. This study aimed to analyze changes in students’ conceptual understanding before and after learning with the Physics Education Technology (PhET) virtual laboratory supported by student worksheets (LKPD), test the statistical significance of these changes, and determine the magnitude of improvement. The study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design without a comparison group. The participants were 20 eighth-grade students at MTs Alkhairaat Biromaru. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests administered before and after instruction and an observation checklist assessing implementation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a paired-samples t-test, and N-Gain. The results showed that the mean score increased from 43.75 to 53.75, with a statistically significant difference (t(19) = −5.210; p < 0.001). Cohen’s dz was 1.17, indicating a large effect size, whereas the N-Gain of 0.18 was categorized as low. All instructional stages were implemented as planned. Thus, students’ scores increased following the intervention; however, the effectiveness of PhET supported by LKPD cannot be conclusively established without a comparison group. Future research should include a comparison group and a longer instructional period. Ukuran efek Cohen’s dz sebesar 1,17 termasuk kategori besar, sedangkan N-Gain sebesar 0,18 termasuk kategori rendah. Seluruh tahapan pembelajaran terlaksana sesuai rencana.
Blended learning (BL) has become increasingly established in higher education, yet research has focused more on effectiveness, engagement, and learning regulation than on how face-to-face and online learning jointly facilitate value internalization. In Pancasila Education, this issue matters because learning outcomes extend beyond knowledge of values to students’ decision-making and relationships. This exploratory qualitative study analyzed open-ended questionnaire responses from 67 Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia students using directed qualitative content analysis, complemented by a contextual review of learning materials and activities available through SPOT UPI. The findings reveal four patterns. First, students perceived face-to-face learning primarily as a relational space for dialogue, clarification, deliberation, and collaboration. At the same time, online learning served mainly as a regulatory space for flexibility, access to materials, time management, and independence. These functions complemented each other but were not exclusive. Second, value internalization became visible when Pancasila shifted from content to be understood into a basis for decision-making, respect for differences, rule compliance, and responsibility. Third, good character was associated with relational pathways toward justice and collaboration and self-regulatory pathways toward discipline, responsibility, and work ethic. Social support, digital culture, and LMS reliability influenced these processes. Fourth, discrepancies between ideal values and reality triggered moral reflection for some students, described as productive moral dissonance. The study interprets BL as an architecture of relational-regulatory functions and suggests connecting social interaction, self-regulation, authentic cases, reflection, process assessment, and reliable digital infrastructure in Pancasila Education. Keywords: Pancasila education, Value internalization, Blended learning; Good character; Higher education
This action research study examined the impact of interactive math games on engagement and achievement in a second-grade classroom at an urban Title I elementary school. Fourteen students participated in a six-week multiplication unit that integrated weekly math games alongside standard instruction. Data sources included pre- and post-tests, interest surveys, and understanding surveys. Results showed very high student engagement, moderate gains in conceptual understanding, and a positive trend in achievement scores, with most students demonstrating growth. Results suggest that game-based learning can support mathematical practices and may help address achievement gaps for students of color when thoughtfully implemented.
This study examined the associations of self-regulation, self-esteem, and digital literacy with students' perceived learning achievement at Ariya Metta Vocational High School, Tangerang. The quantitative ex post facto study included 154 students drawn from a population of 250 through proportional stratified random sampling. Online questionnaire responses were analysed using multiple linear regression in SPSS version 27. Self-regulation (B = 1.349; β = 0.494; t = 6.739; p < .001) and self-esteem (B = 0.624; β = 0.345; t = 4.113; p < .001) were positively associated with perceived achievement after adjustment for the other predictors. Digital literacy showed no significant unique association (B = 0.040; β = 0.019; t = 0.248; p = .804). The model accounted for 63.0% of the observed variation (R² = .630; adjusted R² = .622). Although digital literacy was significant in a simple regression, the association did not persist in the full model, indicating overlapping explanatory information among predictors. The findings support attention to learning management and students' evaluations of themselves while encouraging academically purposeful uses of digital resources. Because achievement was self-reported and the design was observational, the results do not establish causality.
Low learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and the prevalent use of conventional instructional models pose challenges in eighth-grade instruction at MTsN 2 Kota Pariaman. However, research specifically examining the effect of the probing–prompting model on PAI learning outcomes in this context remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the probing–prompting instructional model on eighth-grade students’ PAI learning outcomes at MTsN 2 Kota Pariaman. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample comprised 64 students selected through purposive sampling, including 32 students from class VIII.2 as the experimental group and 32 students from class VIII.3 as the control group. Data were collected through achievement tests administered as a pretest and a posttest and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity of variance tests, and an independent-samples t test with IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a mean posttest score of 78.59, compared with 69.84 for the control group. The t test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < .001). These findings provide empirical evidence of higher PAI learning outcomes among students taught using the probing–prompting model. In practical terms, the findings support the use of this model as an alternative approach to PAI instruction that promotes student engagement through targeted questioning. Future research should involve larger samples, cover a broader range of instructional content, and examine students’ active participation, motivation, and critical thinking skills.
The tahfiz juz’i method helps students memorize the Qur’an gradually. However, its implementation in Juz ‘Amma memorization instruction continues to face various challenges, particularly among third-grade students at SDN 07 Lembah Melintang, Pasaman Barat. This study aimed to describe the challenges in implementing the tahfiz juz’i method and teachers’ efforts to address them. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data trustworthiness was assessed through source and methodological triangulation. The findings revealed that implementation challenges included differences in students’ Qur’anic reading and memorization abilities, limitations in memory and concentration, varying levels of learning motivation, limited teacher time for individual guidance, and uneven family support for murajaah at home. Teachers’ efforts included assigning memorization tasks gradually, strengthening motivation, adapting memorization targets to students’ abilities, establishing regular murajaah routines, correcting tajwid and letter articulation, and collaborating with parents. These findings provide an empirical account of the challenges in implementing tahfiz juz’i instruction at the elementary school level and teachers’ efforts to address them. The study underscores the importance of guidance tailored to students’ abilities and collaboration between schools and families in supporting Qur’anic memorization instruction. Practical implications include the need to adjust memorization targets and ensure continuity of guidance at school and at home. Future research should include more research sites and longer observation periods to gain a deeper understanding of the implementation of the tahfiz juz’i method.
Bullying is a problem in educational settings associated with students’ psychological conditions and learning processes. However, research on the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Character Education at the junior high school level, particularly at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat, remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning in PAI and Character Education. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design involving 45 eighth-grade students at SMPN 02 Sungai Beremas Pasaman Barat. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation and analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and Pearson’s product–moment correlation with IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between bullying and students’ interest in learning (r = .531; p < .001), with a moderately strong correlation. Based on the instrument’s scoring system, this relationship was interpreted as indicating that lower levels of bullying were associated with greater interest in learning. These findings contribute to the empirical evidence on the association between bullying and interest in learning in PAI and Character Education and underscore the importance of a safe and comfortable learning environment. The practical implication is that schools need to address bullying prevention as part of their efforts to support students’ interest in learning. Future research should involve a broader sample, examine a wider range of variables, and employ more comprehensive data collection methods.
This study was motivated by low learning outcomes in Buddhist Religious Education and Character Building at SMKS Bakti Pangkalpinang: 82.35% of students had not achieved mastery in Semester 1 and 58.82% in Semester 2, presumably related to differing learning styles and low viriya (perseverance). This study analyzed the influence of learning styles and viriya on learning outcomes, partially and simultaneously, using a quantitative ex post facto approach on 58 of 68 students (Slovin formula, purposive sampling). Data were collected via a Likert questionnaire and outcome documentation, analyzed using multiple linear regression (IBM SPSS 25); instruments were valid-reliable and the model met the classical assumption tests. Results: Y = 15.479 + 0.747X1 + 0.297X2. Learning styles (t = 7.510; sig. = 0.000) and viriya (t = 2.993; sig. = 0.004) each had significant positive partial effects, and jointly significant effects (F = 74.112; sig. = 0.000) with an Adjusted R Square of 0.720 (72.0%). Learning styles were the most dominant, contributing 55.14%, underscoring the importance of appropriate learning styles and strengthened viriya.
Introduction: During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global prevalence of anxiety and depression rose by about 25%, with women and young people most affected. Now that the emergency phase is over, it is necessary to know the mental health status of university students' families, a group that is rarely measured directly. Objective: To describe the levels of anxiety, depression and perceived stress among nursing students and their family members, and to explore their relationship with age, gender, socioeconomic stratum and religion. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study with non-probability convenience sampling. Thirty-nine people aged 17 to 79 took part: third-semester nursing students at Universidad Metropolitana de Barranquilla and their family members. The GAD-7, the PHQ-9 and the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) were administered. Associations were tested with the chi-square test and, because of the small cell counts, with an exact test estimated by Monte Carlo simulation. Results: Of the participants, 67% were women, 31% were aged 17 to 25, 49% belonged to socioeconomic stratum 2 and 87% were Catholic. Absence of symptoms and mild levels predominated. Mild anxiety was the most frequent category among those aged 17 to 25 (66.7%), and 25% of those aged 44 to 52 had severe anxiety. The chi-square test suggested an association between age and anxiety (p = 0.046), but the exact test did not confirm it (p = 0.080). No other variable was significantly associated with anxiety, depression or stress. Conclusions: Participants mostly showed mild or no symptoms, with no significant differences by sociodemographic variables. The cross-sectional design and the sample size do not allow these levels to be attributed to the pandemic, but the cases of severe anxiety and moderately severe depression among middle-aged family members warrant follow-up of family mental health in the post-pandemic period.
Background: The increasing use of Instagram among medical students has raised concerns about its potential impact on academic performance. However, existing evidence remains inconsistent, and researchers have not yet fully understood the psychological mechanisms underlying this relationship. Objective: To evaluate the association between Instagram use intensity and academic performance while investigating the mediating role of grit. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 128 third-semester medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. Instagram use intensity was measured using the Instagram Intensity Scale Questionnaire (IISQ), and grit was assessed with the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S). The assessment of academic performance was conducted through pharmacology and biochemistry block examination scores, the semester grade point average (SGPA), and the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Correlation analyses, group comparisons, and mediation analysis using PROCESS Macro Model 4 with bootstrap resampling were performed. Results: Instagram use intensity was not significantly associated with any academic performance measure (p>0.05). However, it was negatively associated with grit (r= −0.276, p=0.002), whereas grit was positively associated with all academic outcomes (all p<0.001). Mediation analysis demonstrated significant indirect effects of Instagram use intensity on pharmacology and biochemistry examination scores, SGPA, and CGPA through grit, indicating full mediation. Conclusions: Instagram use intensity was not directly associated with academic performance. Instead, its influence operated indirectly through grit, suggesting that interventions promoting perseverance and self-regulated learning may be more beneficial than strategies focused solely on reducing Instagram use.
Sleep quality is fundamental to college students’ physical and psychological health and academic functioning. Amid increasing digitalization and stress, sleep problems remain prevalent among college students. Previous research has shown that physical activity, cognitive processing styles, and behavioral regulation patterns are associated with sleep outcomes, but these variables have often been examined separately, with limited attention to their integrated association structure. Based on cross-sectional survey data, this study used latent-variable structural equation modeling to examine the sequential indirect association pattern among physical activity, negative attentional bias, bedtime procrastination, and sleep quality. Using cluster sampling, data were collected from 921 college students from four universities in East China (439 males, 482 females; M_age = 20.34, SD = 1.59). Measures included the Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS-3), Negative Attentional Bias Scale, Bedtime Procrastination Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Structural equation modeling and bootstrap methods examined indirect associations. Results indicated that physical activity was significantly associated with lower PSQI scores, indicating better sleep quality (B_total = −0.072, β _total = −0.440, p < 0.001). Negative attentional bias and bedtime procrastination both showed significant partial indirect associations. The simple indirect associations through negative attentional bias and bedtime procrastination accounted for 20.8 and 15.3% of the total association, respectively. The sequential indirect association “physical activity → negative attentional bias → bedtime procrastination → sleep quality” was also significant, although its proportion was relatively small (4.2%). Overall, the total indirect association accounted for 40.3% of the total association. Multi-group structural analysis indicated that the association structure was broadly comparable across gender groups, although associations involving bedtime procrastination appeared stronger among female students. By integrating cognitive processing and behavioral regulation perspectives, this study provides a more integrative view of the association between physical activity and sleep quality. The findings suggest that college students’ sleep problems may be embedded within a broader system of health behaviors and psychological processes. Given the cross-sectional design, future longitudinal or experimental studies should examine the dynamic associations among these variables.
Depression is a leading cause of illness and disability among adolescents worldwide, yet evidence on its burden among school-going adolescents in rural Kenyan counties remains limited. This study determined the prevalence and socio-demographic factors of depression among secondary school students in Bungoma County, Kenya, to provide baseline evidence for mental health planning. The study was guided by Hopelessness Theory of Depression and Ecological Systems Theory. An analytical mixed methods cross-sectional study design was adopted. The target population consisted of secondary school students, with a sample size of 400 respondents determined using Taro Yamane formula. The respondents were selected through multistage stratified and systematic sampling from three sub-counties of Bungoma County (Mt. Elgon, Kimilili and Bungoma South). Quantitative data were collected using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and a structured questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression in SPSS version 28. Qualitative data were obtained through ten Focus group discussions with students and twelve in-depth interviews with class teachers, and analyzed thematically. The overall prevalence of depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 score ≥ 5) was 55.5% (n = 222), 41.5% (n = 166) had mild depression, 9.5% (n = 38) moderate depression, 3.5% (n = 14) moderately severe depression and 1.0% (n = 4) severe depression, while 44.5% (n = 178) were not depressed. Female students were found to be almost twice as likely to experience higher levels of depression compared to the males (AOR= 1.71, P= 0.04). On the other hand, students in mixed day and boarding schools were 78% less likely to experience higher level of depression, (AOR = 0.22, P<0.001), compared to those in girls’ boarding and day schools. Further, students who live with extended family were more than twice as likely as those with both parents to experience higher depression levels (AOR = 2.10, P= 0.04). The qualitative data pointed to gender and family structure as possible associations of depression. Depression is highly prevalent among secondary school students in Bungoma County, with one in seven students experiencing moderate to severe depression. Routine school-based mental health screening using validated tools such as the PHQ-9 is recommended to enable early identification, counselling and referral of affected students.
The article discusses the theoretical and practical foundations for improving an inclusive digital learning environment aimed at developing the information competence of deaf and hard-ofhearing high school students. Drawing on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and official and scholarly sources from Uzbekistan, it shows that 22,381 deaf and hard-of-hearing people were registered in the country in 2021, 13,501 of them (about 60.3%) living in rural areas, while 4,965 children study in specialized boarding schools.
Objective This cross-sectional study (1) compared social support, psychological-capital dimensions, and both C-MLQ dimensions between students with and without visual impairments; and (2) among students with visual impairments, examined the association between social support and presence of meaning (C-MLQ-P) and tested the a priori hypothesized cross-sectional indirect association through hope. Self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism were examined exploratorily in descriptive/correlational and hierarchical-regression analyses. Methods Participants were 170 students with visual impairments and 294 students without visual impairments from a vocational college in China. They completed measures of social support, psychological capital, and meaning in life. Group differences were examined using MANCOVA with follow-up ANCOVAs. Among students with visual impairments, Pearson correlations and an exploratory hierarchical regression were conducted, and H3 was tested using a single cross-sectional indirect-effect model with social support (ASSS-Total) as the predictor, hope (PPQ-Hop) as the indirect variable, presence of meaning (C-MLQ-P) as the outcome, and age and sex as covariates. Results After adjustment for age and sex, students with visual impairments scored significantly lower on objective support, support utilization, self-efficacy, optimism, presence of meaning, and search for meaning than students without visual impairments, whereas no significant group differences were observed for subjective support, resilience, or hope. Among students with visual impairments, social support was positively associated with the presence of meaning (r = 0.56, p < 0.01). In the H3 model, the total association between social support and presence of meaning was 0.8912 (95% CI [0.6988, 1.0835]), the direct association was 0.3560 (95% CI [0.1655, 0.5465]), and the indirect association through hope was 0.5352 (BootSE = 0.0923, 95% bootstrap CI [0.3680, 0.7239]). Conclusions In this sample from a single Chinese vocational college, social support was positively associated with the presence of meaning, and a significant cross-sectional statistical indirect association was observed through hope. Because the data were cross-sectional, the observed indirect association does not establish temporal ordering or a causal mechanism. Longitudinal and experimental studies are needed to determine whether changes in social support precede changes in hope and presence of meaning.
This study aims to analyze the model of ecotheological value internalization through bil-hal da’wah in school co-curricular programs at SD Al-Ishlah Tulungagung. The research employed a qualitative approach with a field research design to examine how ecotheological values are introduced, practiced, and integrated into students’ daily habits. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation focusing on the implementation of the Urban Farming program. The findings reveal that ecotheological values are internalized through practical environmental activities, including plant cultivation, environmental care habits, and religious reflections connecting environmental preservation with human responsibility as Khalifah fil Ardh. These activities provide opportunities for students to relate religious values to concrete actions in caring for their surroundings. The internalization model consists of four interconnected components: value transformation, value transaction, value transinternalization, and ecological-spiritual habituation. Its implementation positively contributes to students’ environmental awareness, responsibility, patience, compassion, and spiritual consciousness. This study concludes that bil-hal da’wah through environmental co-curricular activities effectively promotes ecotheological education and character development by integrating practical environmental engagement with religious understanding among elementary school students.
Abstract Summer melt describes the phenomenon of graduates who appear ready for college opting not to enroll after high school, often because of challenges arising during the summer. Using the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002, this study situates summer melt within the broader college-choice process by comparing summer melters with students who follow through on their intentions, those who never intend to enroll, and those who enroll without prior intent. Socioeconomic differences in summer melt are closely tied to earlier disparities in progressing toward college intent. Summer melters also share some academic and behavioral characteristics with students who do not intend to enroll and are less likely than college-intending enrollees to maintain consistently high educational expectations during high school. They also exhibit differences in their model-predicted probabilities of enrollment between the 10th and 12th grades, with larger differences more common among lower-SES students. These results highlight the value of viewing summer melt as one point among several at which students reconsider their postsecondary plans, as well as the need for conceptual models that incorporate ongoing, rather than discrete, decision-making in the transition to college.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a participatory greening program in implementing a Green Campus and achieving SDG 12 among Biology students. A quantitative pre-experimental, one-group pre-test post-test design was employed with 80 undergraduate student selected by purposive sampling. Instruments included expert-validated knowledge tests, environmental questionnaires, and observation checklist (instrumental validity score of 100%). The four-month program involved activities such as planting, watering, weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring, specially designed to promote sustainable consumption and production practice-including organic fertilization efficient water usage, composting, and responsible resources management. Student participation averaged 84.15%. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a significant increase in environmental knowledge (Z = -7.786, p < 0.001) with a high N-gain score of 0.83. Additionally, students’ environmental care attitude improved significantly, with the mean score rising from 51.37 to 91.81, categorized as “very positive”. These findings demonstrate that the greening program is empirically effective in improving ecological literacy and foresting proenvironmental attitude while reinforcing sustainable production principles. Therefore, this program can be adopted as a scalable and sustainable model for Green Campus initiative in higher education.
Students' conceptual understanding of force is challenged by persistent difficulties in interpreting interactions, resultant forces, and changes in motion. This study examined the classroom implementation of a five-phase Experiential-Based Deep Learning (EBDL) instructional model designed to connect firsthand observation with reflection, evidence-based explanation, and transfer. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent pretest–posttest design involved 40 eighth-grade students at one Indonesian junior secondary school, with 20 students receiving EBDL and 20 receiving Direct Instruction. Conceptual understanding was assessed using five essay items on force; expert content ratings yielded an overall Aiken's V of 0.870 after recalculation. Available group-level posttest results favored the EBDL group (M = 85.85, SD = 5.51) over the control group (M = 81.30, SD = 7.00). The reported Mann–Whitney test indicated a between-group difference (U = 124.00, Z = −2.06, p = 0.039, r = 0.326). The model's distinctive instructional contribution is its explicit progression from discrepant experiences through reflective meaning-making and force-based reasoning to contextual application and transfer. However, aggregate posttest results do not establish which cognitive process benefited most, whether individual misconceptions were corrected, or the magnitude of pretest-to-posttest change. These findings support further testing of EBDL as a structured, context-sensitive alternative for junior secondary force instruction, with stronger item-level and implementation evidence required before wider causal or generalizable claims are made.
Developing civic skills and dispositions in elementary school is essential to preparing students to participate, collaborate, and act responsibly in a democratic society. However, students’ involvement in expressing opinions, participating in discussions, making collective decisions, and fulfilling responsibilities requires further improvement. This study aimed to improve students’ civic skills and civic disposition through the Project Citizen learning model in Pancasila Education for Grade V-B students at SDN 165/IV Kota Jambi. The study employed classroom action research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model and was conducted in three cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 18 students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. Preliminary calculations indicated that the percentage of civic skills increased from 59.03% in the pre-cycle to 90.89% in Cycle III. Meanwhile, civic disposition increased from 59.72% to 91.76%. These findings indicate that implementing Project Citizen has the potential to improve students’ civic skills and dispositions through discussion, collaboration, expressing opinions, and collective decision-making. Therefore, this model may serve as an alternative approach to developing civic competencies among elementary school students. Academic Competency Test (TKA) is an assessment tool designed to measure the literacy, numeracy, and reasoning abilities of high school students as indicators of academic readiness for higher education. However, TKA results show that student achievement is still relatively low and varies between subjects. This study aims to comprehensively examine the determining factors that influence the low achievement of senior high school students in the Academic Competency Test (TKA). This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature study method, with data sources in the form of reputable national and international scientific articles and secondary data from TKA results published by the Education Assessment Center, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. The data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that low TKA achievement is influenced by internal factors, including weak higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), low basic literacy and numeracy, high academic anxiety, and low student motivation to learn. In addition, external factors such as the gap between learning practices and national assessment requirements, the phenomenon of learning loss after the pandemic, limitations in teachers' pedagogical competencies, and socio-economic conditions also contribute to low TKA achievement. These findings show that TKA achievement is a reflection of the overall quality of the learning ecosystem and requires the strengthening of literacy, numeracy, and reasoning-based learning on an ongoing basis.
Objective: to report the experience of remote teaching in an academic master’s degree course during the covid-19 pandemic. Methods: this is a descriptive study, experience report type, experienced from October to December 2020 in a mandatory subject of the Postgraduate Program in Nursing of a Public University in the state of Pará. Results: The educational activities took place synchronously and asynchronous, from virtual classes and texts for reading, all of that was possible by the use of educational technological strategies in the experienced pandemic scenario. Remote teaching required students and teachers to adapt to the new classroom routine in their homes, adapting the study environment and appropriate equipment for this context. Even with the challenges faced, the establishment of the remote learning process added skills among those involved, improvement of tools and digital transformation of the conventional classroom. Conclusion: remote teaching was efficient and provided opportunities for pedagogical mediations, promoting collaborative learning among students. It also revealed the need for training for those involved in the process.
Student learning outcomes are often suboptimal due to inadequate internal factors, such as learning motivation, learning discipline, and critical thinking skills. Students can achieve optimal learning outcomes when these internal factors are consciously, systematically, and intentionally developed as part of their efforts to improve their learning achievement. This study aims to examine the factors that influence student learning outcomes, namely learning motivation, learning discipline, and critical thinking skills, among students at Al-Amin Islamic Senior High School, Sukodono, Sidoarjo. This study employed a quantitative approach, with data collected through questionnaire distribution, documentation of relevant documents, and direct observation at the research site. A total of 97 students constituted both the population and the sample, selected using the total sampling technique. The collected data were assessed for validity and reliability before being analyzed using multiple linear regression. Accordingly, classical assumption tests were conducted as prerequisites for the analysis. The results showed that two independent variables, namely learning motivation and critical thinking skills, had a positive and significant effect on student learning outcomes. In contrast, learning discipline did not show a significant effect on student learning outcomes.

Mathematics achievement remains a major concern in Ghanaian senior high schools despite the increasing emphasis on effective classroom assessment and instructional quality. This study examined the relationship between formative assessment practices and perceived students’ mathematical achievement, while investigating the mediating role of cognitive activation-oriented instruction. The study adopted a positivist paradigm with a quantitative cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected from 320 Senior High School students selected through a multistage sampling procedure from two public senior high schools in Ghana. A structured questionnaire measured formative assessment practices, cognitive activation-oriented instruction, and perceived students’ mathematical achievement. Data were analysed using SPSS version 23 and AMOS version 23. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling were employed to test the measurement and structural models. The findings revealed that formative assessment practices significantly predicted perceived students’ mathematical achievement and were positively associated with cognitive activation-oriented instruction. Cognitive activation-oriented instruction was also positively associated with perceived students’ mathematical achievement and statistically mediated the relationship between formative assessment practices and perceived students’ mathematical achievement. The findings suggest that formative assessment practices and cognitive activation-oriented instruction are positively associated with students’ perceptions of their mathematical achievement.
Learning Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) not only aims to improve students' conceptual understanding but also to foster awareness of energy-saving behavior in everyday life. However, understanding the importance of energy conservation is not necessarily followed by consistent implementation of these behaviors. This study aims to describe the use of animated media in IPAS learning and its role in building energy-saving awareness among elementary school students. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive method and was conducted at SDN Rambi Gundam 03 in September 2026, involving 30 fourth-grade students as observation subjects. Data were collected through learning observations and interviews with teachers. The results showed that students responded positively to the use of animated videos, characterized by enthusiasm and interest in participating in learning compared to learning that only relied on lecture methods. Students also began to understand simple actions to save energy, such as turning off lights when not in use. However, the implementation of energy-saving behaviors has not been consistent. These findings indicate that animated media has the potential to support IPAS learning about energy conservation, but it is not sufficient to prove its direct influence on changes in student behavior. Therefore, the use of animated media needs to be combined with habits and real-life activities so that students' understanding can be applied in everyday life.
Scholarship initiatives support students by easing the financial burdens of their academic experiences and facilitating access to higher education. Literature on scholarship programs primarily emphasizes their benefits, including reduced stress and broader opportunities. Yet the results show contrasting findings. Some studies report greater persistence and better examination performance among recipients, while others show no statistically significant difference in overall achievement compared to non-recipients. This inconsistency underscores the need to further examine whether academic results consistently differ by scholarship status. Although scholarships are widely recognized to alleviate financial problems and expand access, evidence remains inconclusive about whether these benefits consistently translate into improved academic performance. Thus, this study examined whether accounting students’ final examination scores and General Weighted Average (GWA) differed by scholarship status. These questions were tested using the Jamovi software to determine whether a statistically significant difference exists between the two groups. Results showed a contrasting pattern: scholarship recipients performed better on the final examination, while non-recipients performed better in the GWA. These outcomes indicate that scholarship status was associated with different patterns across the two academic performance measures. Thus, the results provide empirical evidence to inform scholarship program refinement and support higher education policy decisions.
Riverbank sanitation is a socioscientific issue that students in Indonesian river cities encounter first-hand, yet validated instruments for assessing how students perceive it are scarce. This study examined a 22-item instrument and how two dimensions, perceived sanitation conditions (KS; 8 items) and perceived government policy (KP; 14 items), constitute students' overall perception (PM) of sanitation on the Kuin River, Banjarmasin. Seven experts reviewed the items before administration. After screening 300 returned questionnaires and removing 49 duplicated records, 251 responses from students at three universities adjoining the Kuin riverbank were analysed. PM was specified as a reflective–formative higher-order construct and estimated with PLS-SEM (5,000 bootstrap resamples). Internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach's α = 0.715 for KS, 0.831 for KP and 0.866 for PM; composite reliability = 0.800 and 0.865) and discriminant validity was supported (HTMT = 0.791), but average variance extracted was below 0.50 (0.33 and 0.32). Both dimensions contributed significantly to overall perception: perceived policy (β = 0.725, 95% CI [0.677, 0.774], p < .001) and perceived sanitation conditions (β = 0.374, 95% CI [0.327, 0.420], p < .001). When the two dimensions were given equal numbers of items, however, their weights converged (0.59 vs. 0.54), indicating that much of the apparent dominance of policy reflects its larger item set. Students' overall appraisal of riverbank sanitation therefore draws on both institutional and physical appraisals, with a modest edge for perceived policy. The instrument offers a starting point for diagnosing such perceptions in place-based science education, pending further validation.
Learning Pancasila Education on the topic of rules at home and school for second-grade elementary students still faces challenges because some students have difficulty understanding abstract concepts of rules when they are delivered only through conventional methods. This study focuses on the effect of using the Rule Box Media on learning outcomes in Pancasila Education among second-grade students at SD QTa Annawa. This study aims to determine the differences in students' learning outcomes before and after using the Rule Box Media. The research employed a quantitative approach using a Pre-Experimental Design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research stages included administering a pretest to identify students' initial abilities, implementing learning activities using the Rule Box Media, administering a posttest to measure changes in learning outcomes, and analyzing the data using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Paired Sample T-Test with the assistance of Jamovi software. The results showed an increase in the average student learning score from 36.6 in the pretest to 92.0 in the posttest. The Paired Sample T-Test results obtained a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between students' learning outcomes before and after using the Rule Box Media. Therefore, the Rule Box Media has an effect on improving Pancasila Education learning outcomes on the topic of rules at home and school among second-grade students at SD QTa Annawa.
Cost estimation (Rencana Anggaran Biaya, RAB) is a course that demands careful calculation and an understanding of how costs arise in real projects. An initial observation at SMK Negeri 1 Baureno found that roughly 63% of students grasped and could apply RAB concepts. This research examines whether industrial internship (Prakerin) experience and learning motivation, individually and jointly, influence the RAB learning outcomes of Building Modeling and Information Design (DPIB) students. It adopts an associative quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. Purposive sampling selected 68 twelfth-grade students who had finished their internship. Four-point Likert questionnaires measured Prakerin experience and learning motivation, while a multiple-choice test and grade records supplied the outcome data. Classical assumption tests and multiple linear regression were run in SPSS. Prakerin experience had a significant positive effect on outcomes (B = 1.137, t = 2.717, p = 0.008); the effect of motivation was positive but not significant (B = 0.782, t = 1.754, p = 0.084). Together, the two variables had a significant effect (F = 44.231, p < 0.001), explaining 57.6% of the variance. Schools should improve internship quality and link students' industry experience to RAB teaching
Empathy toward animals plays an important role in developing children’s positive attitudes toward animals. However, validated educational modules and culturally appropriate assessment tools for Indonesian elementary school students are still limited. This research comprised two sequential studies. Study 1 focused on developing and validating the Empathy for Animals Module and adapting the Animal Attitude Scale-10 (AAS-10) for Indonesian upper elementary students. Study 2 examined the module’s preliminary effectiveness in improving students’ attitudes toward animals. Study 1 included expert content validation, readability testing, cross-cultural adaptation of the AAS-10, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability testing. Study 2 used a quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test control group design with 46 fourth-grade students assigned to experimental and control groups. In Study 1, the module showed strong content validity, with Aiken’s V values ranging from 0.82 to 0.92, and excellent readability, with an FVI of 0.90. The adapted AAS-10 maintained a one-factor structure and demonstrated good internal consistency, with Cronbach’s α = 0.870. In Study 2, the experimental group’s mean attitude score increased from 33.42 to 37.42, while the control group showed no significant improvement. Gain score analysis indicated a significant difference between the groups (p = 0.032), suggesting that the module was effective in enhancing students’ attitudes toward animals. The Empathy for Animals Module and the adapted Animal Attitude Scale-10 (AAS-10) showed satisfactory psychometric properties and are appropriate for Indonesian upper elementary school students. The module also demonstrated preliminary effectiveness in improving students’ attitudes toward animals.
Background Depression and anxiety symptoms are common among college students. Behavioral and psychosocial indicators may support preventive campus mental health work, but risk-stratification frameworks require external validation. Methods We developed a construct-level model-explanation framework using questionnaire data from a development sample. The cleaned dataset included 1,267 students; internal-validation analyses included 1,096 students for depression risk and 1,095 for anxiety risk. Risk was defined as a Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) or Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) score of 10 or higher. The primary Feature set C random-forest (RF) pipelines integrated demographic, traditional, and emerging behavioral and psychosocial indicators. Fold-specific preprocessing and percentile cutoffs were used for internal validation. Locked pipelines were applied without retraining, predictor reselection, optimization, recalibration, or threshold adjustment to an independent university sample of 1,468 students. Results External area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), area under the precision–recall curve (PR-AUC), and Brier scores were 0.813 (95% CI, 0.776–0.848), 0.402 (0.325–0.491), and 0.090 (0.083–0.098), respectively, for depression and 0.809 (0.765–0.851), 0.205 (0.144–0.300), and 0.063 (0.056–0.070), respectively, for anxiety. Ordinary participant-level bootstrap was the primary approach, with stratified bootstrap as a sensitivity analysis. Depression calibration was close to the prevalence baseline (Brier 0.091; intercept −0.668; slope 1.401), whereas anxiety showed miscalibration (Brier 0.063 vs. baseline 0.051; intercept −1.227; slope 1.102). The models supported external discrimination and risk ranking but did not validate individual absolute-risk probabilities or clinical thresholds. Conclusion Behavioral and psychosocial indicators supported externally validated risk stratification in an independent university sample. Anxiety-risk findings should be interpreted as preliminary because the number of positive cases was limited. Further evaluation is needed before wider implementation.
This study aims to compare the motivation levels of male and female eighth-grade students during volleyball instruction at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Samarinda. The study employs a quantitative descriptive design with a comparative approach. The sample consisted of 61 students: 30 males and 31 females. A total sampling technique was used, meaning all members of the population meeting the research criteria were included in the sample. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire based on indicators of needs, persistence, drive, expectations, reinforcement, and goals. The instrument underwent validity and reliability testing prior to use. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an independent samples t-test. The results showed an average motivation score of 134.13 for male students and 125.61 for female students, with a mean difference of 8.52. The independent samples t-test yielded a t-value of 2.992 (df = 59) and a significance value of 0.004 (p < 0.05). These findings can serve as a reference for physical education teachers in developing instructional strategies that are varied, inclusive, and responsive to students' characteristics and needs, thereby fostering increased learning motivation in volleyball lessons.
Background/Aim: Ageism can influence the quality of geriatric dental care, yet evidence among dental students remains inconsistent across cohorts. This study compares ageism between students at two institutions within the same district sharing identical training requirements and evaluated the questionnaire's internal consistency. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the 15-item, six-component ageism questionnaire was administered online to 100 undergraduate dental students (65 from Institution 1; 35 from Institution 2). Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's alpha; Welch's t-tests compared institutions, with a Bonferroni-adjusted significance level ≤ 0.008 for the six component comparisons. Results: The mean total score was 48.81 (SD 5.83). Overall internal consistency was weak (α = 0.521). The total score did not differ significantly between institutions (48.58 vs. 49.23; t (54.12) = 0.48, p = 0.634), and no component difference was observed with Bonferroni adjustment. Conclusions: Ageist attitudes did not differ between institutions, but the questionnaire's weak overall reliability limits interpretation. Larger samples, confirmatory factor analysis, and testing of measurement invariance are warranted.
This study investigated the effectiveness of using the Frontload vocabulary strategy in improving reading comprehension among EFL learners. Since vocabulary knowledge plays a central role in reading comprehension, the study examined whether pre-teaching key vocabulary items before reading tasks could enhance students’ understanding of texts. A quantitative quasi-experimental design employing pre-test and post-test measures was used with a sample of 27 preparatory-year EFL students at Taibah University. Participants received structured vocabulary instruction prior to reading activities over a three-week intervention period. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension performance after the implementation of the Frontload vocabulary strategy. The results suggest that pre-teaching vocabulary facilitated students’ understanding of reading passages and enhanced their engagement with texts. The study supports the effectiveness of vocabulary-focused instructional strategies in developing reading comprehension among EFL learners and highlights the importance of integrating explicit vocabulary instruction into reading classrooms.
