Purpose: This study aimed to explain the factors influencing the construction of national identity in Iraqi school environments. Methods and Materials: This qualitative study was conducted using an exploratory and interpretive approach. Participants consisted of 20 university faculty members, educational researchers, school administrators, and experts from Tehran who had relevant academic or professional experience in education, curriculum studies, sociology, cultural studies, political science, citizenship education, national identity, or the Iraqi sociocultural context. Participants were selected through purposive sampling with maximum variation, and sampling continued until informational saturation was achieved. Data were collected through semi-structured, in-depth interviews lasting approximately 45–70 minutes. Interviews were recorded with participants' permission, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using conventional qualitative content analysis. Meaning units were identified, condensed, coded, compared continuously, and organized into subcategories and broader conceptual categories. Credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability were enhanced through member checking, peer review of coding, maximum variation, systematic documentation of analytical decisions, and repeated comparison of interpretations with the original transcripts. Findings: Qualitative analysis yielded six major categories influencing national identity construction in Iraqi school environments: educational and curricular factors, teacher-related factors, school cultural and organizational factors, sociocultural factors, political and institutional factors, and family, media, and community factors. Educational and curricular factors received the greatest analytical emphasis, particularly inclusive curriculum design, history and civic education, national symbols, cultural representation, and extracurricular citizenship activities. Sociocultural factors highlighted the importance of integrating ethnic, religious, linguistic, and regional diversity within a shared national framework. Political and institutional factors emphasized institutional trust, educational equality, policy coherence, and political neutrality. Teachers and school climate were identified as important mediators through fairness, inclusive pedagogy, participation, and respectful interaction. Family narratives, community discourse, and digital media were also found to reinforce or weaken school-based national identity formation. Conclusion: National identity construction in Iraqi schools is a multidimensional and interactive process requiring coherence among curriculum, teacher practices, inclusive school culture, recognition of sociocultural diversity, institutional fairness, and the wider family, community, and media environment.

Insecurity has become a significant threat to the effective delivery of basic education in Nigeria, particularly in communities affected by banditry, kidnapping, armed attacks, and communal violence. This study examined the influence of insecurity on teaching-learning outcomes in Universal Basic Education primary schools in Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Specifically, it investigated the effects of insecurity on pupils’ academic performance and school attendance and identified strategies for reducing its adverse effects. The study adopted a qualitative documentary research design and relied on secondary data obtained from government publications, policy documents, institutional reports, international organisations, and peer-reviewed journal articles. The selected documents were analysed using qualitative content analysis and organised according to the study’s major themes. The findings revealed that insecurity negatively affects pupils’ academic performance by reducing instructional time, disrupting curriculum coverage, weakening concentration, and creating fear within the learning environment. It also reduces school attendance as parents may prevent their children from attending school because of kidnapping, attacks, unsafe travel routes, and instability within surrounding communities. Consequently, insecurity undermines the implementation of Universal Basic Education by limiting regular participation and disrupting stable teaching and learning conditions. The study concludes that ensuring school safety is essential for achieving the objectives of free and compulsory basic education. It recommends strengthening school security, implementing the Minimum Standards for Safe Schools, improving community participation, providing psychosocial support, protecting routes to school, establishing emergency response systems, and adopting flexible learning arrangements during periods of disruption.
This study investigated the challenges facing head teachers in providing leadership support for the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) in public primary schools in Muleba District, Tanzania. The study was guided by one specific objective: to identify the challenges faced by head teachers in providing leadership support for CBC implementation. Grounded in Hallinger and Murphy's (1985) Instructional Leadership Theory, the study adopted a pragmatic paradigm with a convergent parallel mixed-methods design. The target population comprised 2,166 individuals from 237 public primary schools. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from 112 respondents (100 classroom teachers and 12 heads of schools), semi-structured interviews with head teachers and one School Quality Assurance Officer, and document review. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics through SPSS Version 22, while qualitative data were analysed thematically following Braun and Clarke's (2006) framework. The findings revealed seven interconnected challenges: inadequate CBC training for head teachers themselves (84.8%), inadequate funding preventing leadership support (81.3%), heavy administrative workloads (76.8%), unclear government support (76.8%), financial constraints generally (67.9%), overcrowded classrooms (64.3%), and teacher resistance to CBC changes (52.7%). The study concluded that head teachers' effectiveness in leading CBC implementation is systematically undermined by systemic factors beyond their control. The study recommends mandatory CBC training for head teachers, reduction of administrative workloads, increased capitation grants with CBC-specific allocations, clear national implementation guidelines, and investment in school infrastructure.
The article offers a comparative analysis of the concept of pedagogical mastery in Uzbek, Russian and international scholarship and systematises official statistical data on the teaching workforce in Uzbekistan's general secondary education. The study uses a documentary-analytical review, comparative analysis and descriptive statistics; no experimental component was conducted. According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of teachers in general secondary schools grew from 486.6 thousand in 2019/2020 to 577.7 thousand in 2025/2026 (+18.7%), women account for 72.5% of the workforce, and regional differences reach a factor of 4.6. International evidence (Shulman; Hattie; Kunter et al.; Darling-Hammond et al.) indicates that teaching quality depends less on workforce expansion than on the integration of knowledge, practice, personal-value, reflective and digital-methodological components. The author proposes a five-component integrative conceptual model and formulates recommendations for qualitative monitoring of teacher capacity and for the design of professional development
This study examined how classroom observation by school leaders influenced teachers’ effectiveness in lesson preparation and presentation in public secondary schools in Kyerwa District Council, Kagera, Tanzania. The study was guided by the pragmatist paradigm and employed a mixed-methods approach using a convergent parallel research design. A sample of 87 respondents was selected through stratified random, simple random, and purposive sampling techniques. The sample size was determined using Yamane’s (1967) formula (n=N/[1+N(e)^2]). Quantitative data were collected using structured questionnaires and classroom observation checklists, while qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, means, correlation, and regression analysis, whereas qualitative data were analysed thematically. The findings indicated that classroom observation by school leaders contributed to teachers’ effectiveness in lesson preparation and presentation through professional feedback, identification of instructional weaknesses, guidance, and follow-up support. The findings further showed that regular and constructive classroom observation enhanced teachers’ preparedness, organisation of lesson content, use of teaching and learning materials, and classroom presentation practices. However, inadequate time, limited follow-up, and competing administrative responsibilities constrained the effectiveness of classroom observation. The study concluded that systematic, supportive, and constructive classroom observation was an important instructional supervision practice for improving teachers’ effectiveness in lesson preparation and presentation. The study recommended that school leaders and education authorities should strengthen regular classroom observation, professional feedback, and follow-up mechanisms to promote continuous improvement in teaching practices.
This study aims to examine the impact of parental involvement and socioeconomic status (SES) on academic achievement at public senior high schools in Tangerang Municipality. The study used a cross-sectional survey design. The study population consisted of students from public senior high schools in Tangerang Municipality. We applied Weighted Regression analysis utilizing a sample size of 893 participants. We used a validated questionnaire that was distributed via WhatsApp groups. The findings showed that parents with high SES tended to be more involved in their children's learning; however, high parental SES did not guarantee high academic achievement for their children. The mean difference tests revealed that academic achievement did not differ significantly by parental involvement, whereas it did differ significantly by parental SES. Researchers also found that parents’ involvement in education significantly boosted students' academic achievement. In contrast, parents' SES did not have a significant impact. Intensive discussions, good communication, full attention, giving gifts, and providing learning facilities are effective parental involvement actions that encourage increases in children's academic achievement. Parental involvement matters more than parental SES in improving students’ academic achievement. Therefore, maintaining strong relationships between schools and parents is essential to support students’ educational outcomes. Local governments need to strengthen regulations governing parents' roles at home and at school. Keywords: academic achievement, parental involvement, SES.
This study investigates the alignment between teacher allocation and learner enrolment patterns in Eswatini high schools following the 2023 teacher allocation policy, assessing whether deployment corresponds to learner demand and to the policy goals of equity and efficiency. Guided by the Theory of Compensating Differences, it analysed disparities in enrolment and teacher distribution using documentary evidence from enrolment records, class registers, staffing information, and policy documents from 23 high schools, supplemented by contextual observations. Findings revealed substantial variation: some schools faced overcrowded classrooms, while others had enrolments far below the advised threshold of 400 students required for certain staffing provisions, with several reporting between 172 and 286 students. This raised concerns about the effective use of human and financial resources, particularly in high-density communities where staffing levels did not consistently reflect student numbers. The study concludes that reallocating teachers is necessary but complex, requiring a more responsive and context-sensitive model that goes beyond fixed enrolment thresholds to incorporate regular monitoring, redistribution mechanisms, and consideration of demographic and school-specific conditions. Such an approach would better balance educational equity, resource efficiency, and sustainability of teaching provision. Limitations include reliance on documentary and administrative records from a convenience sample of 23 schools, restricting generalisation to all Eswatini high schools. Nonetheless, the study provides valuable evidence to inform refinement of teacher allocation policy and offers lessons for other resource-constrained education systems experiencing uneven teacher distribution and shifting enrolment patterns.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most common disabilities in South African schools. However, there is still limited information about children with ASD and their schooling needs in South Africa. Teachers may find it particularly taxing to address behavioral challenges while simultaneously seeking to provide fair and accessible learning opportunities for all learners. This study identifies effective behavioural strategies to help manage the challenging behaviour of learners with ASD. The study conducted observations and semi-structured interviews as part of a qualitative multiple-case study design. The data were analysed inductively, and the results revealed that teachers relied largely on their own informal strategies. These included attempts to meet the child's individual needs, providing positive reinforcement to improve behavioural regulation, practicing positive communication, and using structured routines and regulation breaks. The implementation of these strategies was carried out without formal training or systematic guidance. Learner facilitators also provided valuable support to learners with ASD. These approaches address the inclusion of learners with unique learning capabilities in mainstream learning environments through teacher initiative. This was done to address behavioural challenges in populations with limited systemic support. Given the exploratory, small-scale nature of this study, findings are intended to offer in-depth insight rather than generalisable conclusions. Additionally, recommendations are provided to assist mainstream schools and teacher training.
While existing literature recognises mentorship as an important strategy for leadership development, there is limited empirical understanding of how women experience and negotiate mentorship as they advance into school leadership in the South African context. Despite policy efforts to promote gender equity, women remain underrepresented in school leadership, and the role of mentorship in addressing this disparity remains insufficiently understood. This study explores mentorship as a relational mechanism through which women negotiate access, leadership identity, and social capital in their advancement into school leadership. An interpretive qualitative design, underpinned by a narrative phenomenological approach and informed by Social Capital Theory, was used to explore the experiences of six purposively selected women leaders from township schools in a single district in KwaZulu-Natal. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews and were analysed thematically. Participants reported that supportive mentoring relationships provided them with confidence, professional visibility, networking opportunities, leadership guidance, and encouragement to pursue leadership positions. Participants with limited access to mentorship described feelings of isolation, reduced access to leadership guidance, and fewer opportunities for professional development. They also reported seeking mentorship through external professional networks and women-centered spaces when support within their immediate school environments was limited. Some participants described mentoring relationships characterised by unequal power dynamics, limited trust, or inappropriate behaviour. Based on these accounts, the researchers interpret mentorship as an uneven, relational, and context-dependent mechanism through which women negotiate access to professional resources, leadership identity, and social capital. The findings suggest that mentorship can facilitate women's leadership development when relationships are supportive and trusting, but may also constrain agency when mentoring relationships reproduce hierarchical and gendered power relations. The study, therefore, extends understanding of mentorship by shifting attention from the mere availability of mentors to the relational, institutional, and power conditions that shape how mentorship is experienced and mobilised. Although limited by its small, context-specific sample, the study provides contextually grounded insights into mentorship and women's advancement into school leadership. It highlights the need for structured, responsive, and gender-sensitive mentoring opportunities.
This study examines career development as a predictor of achievement motivation among public elementary school teachers in Pabelan District, Semarang Regency, Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of public elementary school teachers in Pabelan District, and data were collected from 128 teachers using structured Likert-scale questionnaires measuring career development and achievement motivation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, assumption testing, and simple linear regression to determine the predictive association between career development and teachers’ achievement motivation. The findings indicate that teachers’ achievement motivation was generally high, with a mean score of 148.09, while career development also demonstrated a relatively favorable level, with a mean score of 128.93. Among the dimensions of achievement motivation, the need for affiliation obtained the highest percentage (88.10%), followed by the need for achievement (87.30%) and the need for power (85.40%). Regarding career development, self-development showed the highest percentage (87.50%), followed by experience (86.90%) and work performance (82.90%). Regression analysis indicated a positive and statistically significant predictive association between career development and achievement motivation. The estimated regression model was Ŷ = 52.86 + 0.74X, with an estimated R² of 0.490, indicating that career development statistically accounted for approximately 49.0% of the variance in achievement motivation within the sample. These findings highlight the importance of providing sustainable opportunities for teachers’ professional growth, career development, and self-improvement to support achievement-oriented motivation.

Inclusive education is one of the main challenges facing contemporary educational systems. This article analyzes inclusive education as an educational paradigm shift, and examines the relationship between diversity, educational inclusion, and the right to education. Drawing on different theoretical perspectives, it explores how traditional educational and pedagogical practices have historically sustained mechanisms of normalization and exclusion within schools. It also discusses the transition from the integration paradigm to inclusive education, understood as a transformation of institutional cultures, policies, and practices, aimed at ensuring the full exercise of the right to education. Finally, it argues that building inclusive schools requires profound cultural, political, and pedagogical transformations, that promote participation, learning, and the recognition of diversity as a constitutive principle of democratic education.

The article discusses the concepts of spirituality, morality, and personal qualities of students, reveals the essential characteristics of spiritual and moral education of students, and the importance of cooperation between parents and teachers in educational activities.
While research into inclusivity and dyslexia, a neurodevelopmental condition affecting language learning, has gained greater attention, multilevel stakeholders’ perspectives across both public schools and teacher education programs remain underexplored. Addressing this gap, this study adapts the broader UNESCO Policy Review Framework as a lens for investigating dyslexia-friendly inclusive practices among ELT stakeholders, including in-service teachers, school administrators, teacher educators, and university administrators in the Riau Islands, Indonesia. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, this study gathered data through questionnaires, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, data were analyzed via descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Results revealed limited awareness of dyslexia and inclusive education, alongside misconceptions and reliance on special schools. Although inclusive practices were evident (mainly differentiated instruction), specific support for students with dyslexia remained unaddressed. Despite inclusion being viewed positively and mandated within the education system, its implementation remained weak. The study offers implications for systemic reform, suggesting that ELT stakeholders enhance their inclusive practices through training and developing inclusive institutional management. Additionally, teacher education institutions should pursue curricular adjustments to incorporate dyslexia-friendly inclusive practices.
This study investigated the relationship between Senior High School mathematics teachers’ epistemological knowledge and mathematical discourse practices, examined differences based on selected profile variables, and determined the predictive influence of epistemological knowledge on discourse practices. Employing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 43 Senior High School mathematics teachers from 13 public secondary schools in the Schools Division of Lipa City, selected through total population sampling. Data were gathered using two researcher-developed instruments: the Epistemological Knowledge in Mathematics Questionnaire (EKMQ) and the Mathematical Discourse Practices Questionnaire (MDPQ), both subjected to expert validation and reliability testing. Following ethical research protocols, questionnaires were administered online. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson product-moment correlation, and simple linear regression. Findings revealed that teachers demonstrated a high extent of epistemological knowledge and highly practiced mathematical discourse in classroom instruction. No significant differences in epistemological knowledge were observed based on ancillary roles, while mathematical discourse practices differed significantly according to the number of mathematics-related trainings and seminars attended. Furthermore, a strong positive relationship existed between epistemological knowledge and mathematical discourse practices, with epistemological knowledge significantly predicting discourse practices. These findings emphasized the importance of strengthening teachers’ understanding of mathematical knowledge and promoting meaningful classroom communication. Consequently, the Mathematical Discourse Enhancement Program (MDEP) was developed as a research-based professional development initiative designed to enhance teachers’ epistemological knowledge, improve mathematical discourse practices, and support effective mathematics instruction through targeted professional learning opportunities and continuous instructional improvement.
This article examines ethics education in schools in the light of three converging processes: the expansion of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), human rights education, and the growing importance of digital environments in everyday life. It argues that Ethics Education goes beyond the transmission of values and involves issues of justice, participation, care, and recognition. Drawing on recent literature, the article analyzes both the contributions and tensions surrounding CSE as well as the challenges posed by digital citizenship. It concludes that schools currently require a broader political-pedagogical horizon to address these issues in an integrated manner.
The diversity present in schools is a reality that demands pedagogical practices that areincreasingly sensitive to the singularities of both subjects and committed to promoting equityInthis sense, the present article intents to discuss the contributions of literary literature as a bookin multiformat Jean and the party across cultures, aiming for an inclusive and accessible practice. Therefore, it aims to reflect, from the Brazilian legislation, or directly to everyone in reading,to understand the books in multiformats with the resource of augmentative and alternativecommunication and to present some accessible literary reading strategies. Methodologically, itis a qualitative approach, of an applied nature, configuring itself as a bibliographic review. Theresults demonstrate that accessible reading strategies are promoted even by considering thediversity and needs of students. This approach does not only enrich or learn, but also strengthenssocial ties, making literary reading an accessible and transformative experience for all.
This article examines the curricular articulation of the Teaching Practice Unit (Práctica Docente, PD) in three Higher Institutes of Teacher Education (ISFD), managed by the Province of Córdoba (Argentina). It is organized around three analytical levels -horizontal, vertical and inter-institutional- and it draws on a qualitative, descriptive-interpretive study: documentary analysis, interviews with two members of the provincial curriculum team and five school principals, and a survey of nine PD instructors. Results show specific devices for horizontal articulation (integrative workshops and seminars), vertical articulation (spiral progression and complementary regulations), and a relationship with partner schools that participants themselves describe as still developing. Limitations, including the absence of partner schools' voices, and the relation to recent provincial curricular changes are discussed.
Although classical poetry is central to Chinese language education, how poetry learning is linked to writing development has rarely been characterized empirically. This one-year longitudinal study followed 1,920 students in Grades 3–6 from 48 classes in 12 primary schools across four waves and applied a four-level growth model (measurement occasions nested within students, students within classes, and classes within schools). The cognitive load components were indexed provisionally by NASA-TLX subscales, and results that depend on their distinction are interpreted as preliminary. Eight confirmatory tests were controlled with the Holm procedure and all remaining analyses were reported as exploratory with Benjamini-Hochberg control; a random-intercept cross-lagged panel model examined within-person lagged associations, which inform rather than establish the ordering of the modeled associations; and the 12-school highest level was examined with leave-one-school-out refits, a wild cluster bootstrap, prior sensitivity analyses, a school fixed-effects model, and a calibrated Monte Carlo simulation. Intrinsic (β = −0.41) and extraneous (β = −0.49) cognitive load were negatively and germane cognitive load (β = 0.45) positively associated with writing ability (Holm-adjusted p < .001), and schema construction, imagery processing, and emotional resonance carried statistical indirect associations totaling 0.587 (76.2% of the total association). The interaction of teaching method with cognitive load ( γ = 0.47, Holm-adjusted p = .011) was retained under all small-cluster sensitivity analyses, whereas the interactions with grade and class environment were exploratory and the school-level variance component was imprecisely estimated, and writing ability followed a mildly decelerating quadratic trajectory ( π 2 = −0.17 points per wave², Holm-adjusted p < .001). With imputation, centering, model reselection, refitting, and BLUP computation confined to the training folds, prediction for new students in the sampled classes and schools reached R 2 = 0.847 and RMSE = 4.28, meeting the preset RMSE target, whereas three-band accuracy (80.3%) fell short of the preset 85% target, and prediction for unseen classes and schools reached R 2 = 0.768 and 0.656. The findings characterize the multilevel associations between classical poetry learning and writing development and support instructional recommendations restricted to the confirmatory results.
The authenticity of Islamic Religious Education in elementary schools faces significant contemporary challenges, shifting from transformative character building toward mechanical cognitive memorization. This study aims to re-actualize the core principles of authentic moral learning through a mindful, meaningful, and joyful paradigm tailored for elementary school students. Using a literature study approach with critical-qualitative analysis, this research examines classical and contemporary pedagogical frameworks to synthesize an integrated moral education model. The findings indicate that mindful learning enhances students' self-awareness and spiritual presence, meaningful learning connects religious doctrines with daily life experiences, and joyful learning fosters intrinsic motivation and emotional well-being. Synthesizing these three elements restores the authenticity of IRE, transforming moral learning from rigid doctrinal instruction into a living, transformative spiritual and ethical experience.
The digital revolution has fundamentally transformed childhood experience across the globe. In Ghana, rapid mobile internet penetration, the proliferation of low-cost smartphones, and COVID-19-induced remote learning have dramatically intensified basic school children's exposure to digital screens. Emerging evidence links digital screen addiction (DSA) to significant impairments in children's psychological well-being encompassing emotional, cognitive, social, and behavioural dimensions. Yet, school management responses in Ghanaian basic schools remain underdeveloped and largely uncoordinated. This narrative literature review synthesizes global and sub-Saharan African evidence on digital screen addiction and its psychological well-being consequences among basic school children (ages 5–15), critically examines existing school management frameworks, and proposes a School-Based Digital Wellness Management Framework (SBDWMF) for Ghanaian basic schools. A narrative synthesis approach was employed. Literature was sourced from PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, PsycINFO, African Journals Online (AJOL), and grey literature from the WHO, UNESCO, UNICEF, Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Health Service (GHS), and the Ministry of Education. Peer-reviewed empirical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and policy documents published from 2010 to 2024 were included, with a total of 72 sources forming the evidence base. DSA is prevalent among basic school-age children globally, with pooled prevalence estimates ranging from 19% to 38% depending on measurement tools and contexts. Excessive screen exposure is consistently associated with psychological distress, anxiety, depression, attentional difficulties, emotional dysregulation, impaired self-esteem, peer-relationship deficits, and poor academic well-being. In Ghana, contextual risk amplifiers, including parental digital literacy gaps, absent school mental health services, post-COVID normalization of extended screen use, and fragmented policy, compound the psychological burden. School management frameworks in Ghanaian basic schools are largely inadequate to address DSA, with critical deficits in policy, counselling capacity, teacher training, and parental engagement. DSA poses a mounting psychological well-being challenge for Ghanaian basic school children, demanding an urgent, evidence-informed school management response. The proposed six-pillar SBDWMF offers a practical governance architecture for Ghanaian basic school heads, district education officers, and national policymakers to address DSA comprehensively within the school setting.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the Russian Empire underwent reforms in theological and secular education. This article emphasizes the commonality of the administrative and substantive guidelines of these reforms. The reforms led to the streamlining and development of general education in theological parochial schools. During the reform process, the possibility of initial homeschooling for children, considered equivalent to lower theological education, and mechanisms for final examinations were legalized. The financial situation of parish theological schools was dire, which hindered their development.
Abstract Educational tracking shapes students’ learning opportunities, yet isolating its effects from prior selection remains a key challenge in large-scale assessment research. This study examines both the size and the mechanisms of academic-track advantages by integrating longitudinal population-level administrative data from INVALSI with school- and student-level indicators from PISA 2018 in Italy. Focusing on lyceums versus technical schools, we exploit rich pre-tracking information on achievement, socio-demographic background, and early attitudes, and apply entropy balancing to adjust for selection into tracks. Results show that achievement gaps at Grade 10 are large across domains, but substantially reduced once differences in prior competencies and backgrounds are accounted for. Nonetheless, a meaningful academic-track advantage persists after balancing. Decomposition analyses indicate that this residual gap is largely explained by differences in school environments, particularly classroom academic and SES composition alongside school climate, while instructional practices and organizational policies or school resources contribute little on average. The findings support a dual interpretation of tracking effects, combining cumulative selection and exposure to differentiated learning contexts, and highlight the value of linking administrative panels with international assessment data to study both outcomes and mechanisms of educational stratification.
Research on fitrah-based education is mostly conceptual or situated in early childhood and primary schools; its implementation in junior high schools bound by the national curriculum remains underexplored. This qualitative case study describes the forms of implementation, strategies for developing students' academic and spiritual potential, supporting and inhibiting factors, and implications for students at SMP Ar-Rauf Tangerang. Data came from interviews with seven informants, observation, and documents, analyzed with the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model. Four forms of implementation emerged: an integrated curriculum, learning centered on students' uniqueness, narrative assessment (Rapor Fitrah), and a nurturing school culture. Potential was developed through talent mapping, personalized Qur'an memorization, nature-based entrepreneurship, and differentiated instruction. Educator vision, parental involvement, and the environment supported implementation; tension with the national curriculum, teacher workload, and varied parental understanding inhibited it. The study proposes the Formal School Fitrah Ecosystem model.
This study examined teachers’ readiness and perceived effectiveness in implementing Makabansa and Araling Panlipunan under the revised K to 10 (MATATAG) Framework across 33 public schools in the Schools Division of Parañaque City during School Year 2025–2026. Specifically, it sought to determine whether teacher readiness significantly predicted perceived effectiveness and to identify which readiness domains most strongly influenced outcomes. Employing a quantitative-correlational design, the study utilized stratified random sampling to ensure proportional representation across grade levels and supervisory contexts. The study involved 271 public school respondents, composed of 227 teachers handling learners in Key Stages 1–3 and 44 immediate coordinators, namely head teachers and master teachers. Data were collected through validated researcher-made survey instruments measuring readiness and perceived effectiveness and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression techniques. Findings revealed that both teachers and coordinators demonstrated very high levels of readiness and effectiveness. Correlation analysis confirmed a significant positive relationship between readiness and effectiveness, while regression analysis demonstrated that readiness significantly predicted effectiveness. Teacher readiness explained 22.4% of the variance in perceived effectiveness (R² = .224, β = .473, p < .001), while coordinator readiness explained 53.9% (R² = .539, β = .734, p < .001). As a practical output, the study developed a Teacher Readiness Toolkit for Makabansa and Araling Panlipunan.
Curriculum reform depends on how school leaders support its everyday implementation. This study examined the relationship between curriculum leadership practices and perceived curriculum implementation effectiveness among public school heads in Albay, Ligao City, and Iriga City, Philippines. Guided by Hallinger and Murphy’s instructional leadership model, a cross-sectional descriptive-correlational design was used. Fifty school heads voluntarily completed a questionnaire containing 60 items across six subscales. Analyses included descriptive statistics, internal consistency estimates, Pearson correlation, and simultaneous multiple regression, supplemented by rank-based correlation, robust standard errors, and influential-case checks. Respondents reported very high leadership practices (M = 4.702, SD = 0.375) and implementation effectiveness (M = 4.678, SD = 0.359). However, 71.2% of item responses received the highest rating, indicating a ceiling effect. Overall leadership and implementation scores were strongly associated (r = .804, p < .001). The regression model explained 66.8% of the observed variance. Positive learning climate was the only dimension with a significant unique association (B = 0.535, β = .595, p = .002), a finding retained in sensitivity analyses. Mission definition and instructional management did not contribute significant additional variance after their overlap with learning climate was considered. Findings suggest that collaboration, recognition, inclusion, and professional learning deserve attention in curriculum support. Nevertheless, the voluntary sample, common source of measurement, unverified content validity, and overlapping predictors limit interpretation. The results describe perceptions rather than independently demonstrated effectiveness and cannot establish causation. Larger studies using validated instruments, teacher reports, observations, and documentary evidence are needed to test these relationships.
Introduction: Psychological factors can be important for the physical performance of developing female football players, but research is needed to assess their impact. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a motivational psychological intervention strategy to improve physical performance in female U-15 football players from a football school in Zone 8 of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Method: Pre-experimental design with a single group and pretest-posttest measurements. Thirty football players participated. For the evaluation of the motivational climate, the PMCSQ-2 was used, while the YYIR1 and the Cooper Test were the instruments employed to assess physical performance. The intervention consisted of 12 sessions of 45 minutes over six weeks. The Shapiro-Wilk test was applied and then the Student's t-test for dependent samples. Results: The overall PMCSQ-2 score did not show statistically significant changes (t(29) = −1.37; p = 0.182; d = −0.250). On the contrary, statistically significant differences with large effect sizes were found for both the YYIR1 (t(29) = −16.08; p < 0.001; d = −2.936) and the Cooper Test (t(29) = −19.54; p < 0.001; d = −3.567). Discussion: Improvements are evident in the evaluated physical indicators, without significant changes in the overall motivational score. This divergence indicates that the physical response and the perception of the motivational climate do not always develop at the same pace. Conclusions: The intervention was associated with significant improvements in physical performance, which supports its application in youth women's football.
School – Based violence has been recognized as a major educational challenge (UNESCO, 2019). In Uganda, and particularly in urban centers such as Mbale City, reports of student misconduct, peer influence, and group-related conflicts are becoming more common. These challenges not only affect academic performance but also threaten the safety and well-being of learners. Therefore, this study examined the causes, effects, and prevention strategies of school-based violence and gang activity in Mbale City. This study adopted a mixed-approach design, combining literature review with contextual observations in the community whereby Secondary data was obtained from text-books, reports, academic publications and newspapers. Studies indicated that violence in schools negatively affects learners’ academic performance, psychological well-being, and social development (UNESCO, 2019; UNICEF, 2018). Locally, informal observations and reported cases in Mbale City suggested increasing incidents of bullying, student grouping, fighting among students, Intimidation and harassment, Group-based conflicts and indiscipline. The study identified key contributing factors such as peer pressure, family background, Weak school discipline systems (Gottfredson, 2001), Exposure to violence in media and community influence, Overcrowding in some schools and school environment. This further highlighted that effective prevention requires a combination of school-based interventions, parental involvement, and policy support. In Mbale City, these activities remain significant challenges in education and these issues are increasingly visible which require urgent attention according to media reports (Daily monitor 2026, April 17). The study concludes that a coordinated approach is essential in promoting safe and supportive learning environments by combining global research with local understanding to strengthen discipline systems and supervision, Guidance and counseling services in schools, student behavior monitoring by parents and Government’s support to policies that promote school safety.
Vocabulary support in early secondary education needs to reflect differences in learners’ reading readiness and opportunities to use words meaningfully. This study examined reported reading profiles and vocabulary ratings from six public secondary schools in Pio Duran, Albay, Philippines, to inform the development of supplementary vocabulary material. A descriptive analysis was conducted using school assessment summaries, teacher informed vocabulary ratings, and curricular appraisal frequencies documented in the thesis. Reading categories were treated as indicators of reading performance rather than direct measures of vocabulary mastery. School summaries generally showed fewer learners in the frustration category at posttest and more learners in instructional or independent categories. Vocabulary ratings increased across the six schools, from baseline values of 1.67–3.12 to posttest values of 2.06–3.90. However, identical scores across generalization, application, breadth, and precision prevented separate interpretation of these dimensions. Recomputed appraisal means were 4.93 for content quality, 4.94 for format, and 4.92 for presentation and organization on the reported five point scale. Accuracy ratings also identified minor errors requiring editorial attention. The supplementary material was organized around progressively demanding vocabulary tasks, contextual use, and differentiated support. Findings provide a local basis for refining instructional resources, but they do not establish intervention effectiveness. Inconsistent participant totals, incomplete documentation of assessment procedures, and discrepancies in validation records limit interpretation. Verification of the original records and a subsequent classroom evaluation are needed before stronger claims can be made. The study supports alignment between learner evidence, material design, and the scope of conclusions drawn from school assessments.
Student retention, graduation, and employment are major outcomes in higher education. They reflect the effectiveness of the institution in shaping the future workforce. Thus, this study examined undergraduate retention, graduation, and employment in 2020-2024. The Divisions of Academic Affairs, Registration, and Planning provided secondary data on 9 issues: admission plans, enrolment reporting, course registration, leave of absence, academic results, loss of student status, retention, graduation, and employment status. The study found that most students who lost status were from large northeastern institutions and were reported for portfolio round enrolment. They had low entrance academic performance. Most students in this cohort had GPAXs between 0.00 and 0.99 in 2024, with the lowest being 1.19. The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies lost the most students. Mahasarakham Business School had the most, mostly first-year students. Many retained students came from big northeastern schools and reported for enrolment in the Portfolio round, followed by the Quota round. The mean entrance GPAX was 3.27, and the mean current GPAX was 2.34. The Faculty of Nursing had the greatest retention rates in the second and third years. Pharmacy and veterinary sciences had the highest retention rates in the fifth year and above. Most students who graduated within the curriculum's timeframe came from major northeastern schools and reported for portfolio round enrolment. Most students graduated on schedule, usually in the second semester. Large-school graduates worked largely in the northeast. The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies had the greatest employment rate, whereas Mahasarakham Business School had the most employed graduates. Overall, 94.92% of graduates found work within a year. At 100.00%, the Faculty of Medicine achieved the greatest employment rate in its field.
School violence continues to present serious challenges to teaching, learning, and teacher well-being in post-apartheid South Africa. Existing research has largely focused on the prevalence, causes, management, and disciplinary responses associated with violence in schools. Thereby positioning teachers as informants for experiences of school violence. Such a singular focus limits our understanding of how teachers interpret and make sense of these experiences within their professional lives. This paper attempts to fill this gap by using currere as a reflective, autobiographical approach to study lived educational experiences. I purposively selected two teachers from schools in the Mashishing Circuit of Mpumalanga Province to participate in the study. To collect data, I used reflective journals guided by the four stages of currere: regressive, analytical, progressive, and synthetic. Currere created a platform for teachers to revisit their past experiences of school violence and analyse how these experiences shape their current pedagogical choices and practices. The findings suggest that violence in schools is an ongoing emotional and structural condition. It influences teachers’ well-being, authority, pedagogical choices, and attitude toward learners. Currere enabled teachers to reimagine pedagogical approaches that balance classroom safety with meaningful learning. The study highlights the methodological value of currere for examining teachers' lived experiences in violent school settings. The paper recommends providing well-being support for teachers who experienced violence and adopting restorative approaches in schools.
The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in elementary schools requires continuous teacher professional development and collaborative support systems. Teacher working groups have an important role as professional learning communities that facilitate teachers in adapting to curriculum changes and improving instructional practices. This study aims to analyze the role of the Sekbin 2 Teacher Working Group (Forum Kelompok Kegiatan Guru/ FKKG) in strengthening the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at elementary schools in Tonjong District, Brebes Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The research participants consisted of the FKKG chairperson, administrators, elementary school teachers, principals, and school supervisors selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that FKKG Sekbin 2 plays three strategic roles in supporting the Merdeka Curriculum implementation. First, FKKG functions as a professional learning community that strengthens teacher competence through collaborative discussions, sharing best practices, and developing learning tools. Second, the sustainability of FKKG activities is supported by educational leadership and organizational support from principals and supervisors. Third, FKKG contributes to transforming instructional practices by encouraging student-centered learning, differentiated instruction, and innovative teaching strategies. This study concludes that FKKG can serve as a strategic educational management instrument for strengthening curriculum implementation through collaborative professional development, organizational support, and sustainable improvement of teacher practices.
This study assessed the extent of instructional supervision practices among head teachers in public primary schools in Kibondo District, Tanzania. The study was guided by the positivist research paradigm and employed a mixed-methods approach using a convergent parallel research design. A total of 294 participants were involved in the study, comprising 12 head teachers, 272 primary school teachers, 9 Ward Education Officers (WEOs), and 1 District Education Officer (DEO). Head teachers, WEOs, and the DEO were selected using purposive sampling, while primary school teachers were selected through simple random sampling. Quantitative data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to teachers, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews with head teachers, WEOs, and the DEO. Documentary review was also used to examine supervision schedules, classroom-observation records, lesson-plan monitoring records, and teachers’ feedback records. Quantitative data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) through descriptive statistics, particularly means and standard deviations, while qualitative data were analysed thematically. The findings revealed that instructional supervision practices were generally implemented at low to moderate levels. Maintaining written supervision records received the highest rating (M = 2.80, SD = 1.40), followed by organising school-based professional development (M = 2.65, SD = 1.40) and encouraging peer observation and mentoring (M = 2.61, SD = 1.44). In contrast, classroom-focused activities recorded relatively lower ratings, including reviewing teachers’ schemes of work (M = 2.26, SD = 1.51), classroom observation (M = 2.27, SD = 1.48), checking lesson plans (M = 2.29, SD = 1.47), and monitoring continuous assessment practices (M = 2.29, SD = 1.53). Qualitative and documentary evidence indicated that competing administrative responsibilities, staffing constraints, and other school-level demands constrained the consistent implementation of classroom-focused supervision. The study concludes that instructional supervision was implemented unevenly, with relatively greater emphasis on administrative documentation and professional development activities than on direct classroom-focused supervision. The study recommends strengthening head teachers’ instructional leadership competencies, reducing competing administrative workloads, addressing staffing constraints, and establishing systematic mechanisms for regular classroom observation, constructive feedback, professional development, and follow-up of instructional practices.

The study covered Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States. The population comprised 1,730 principals, 30,232 teachers, and 402 quality assurance officers. Using a multi-stage sampling technique, a sample of 785 participants (274 principals, 375 teachers, and 136 quality assurance officers) was selected from 274 public senior secondary schools. Data were collected using a self-structured questionnaire titled Influence of Planning and Coordination in Quality Assurance Practice on Management of Instruction in Public Secondary Schools (IPCQAPMIPSS). Reliability was established through Cronbach’s alpha (α = 0.889), indicating strong internal consistency. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) were used to answer research questions with a decision mean of 2.50. Findings revealed that planning practices such as timely preparation of timetables and lesson plans were generally accepted, while coordination practices showed moderate implementation across schools. The study concludes that strengthening coordinated quality assurance strategies is essential for improving instructional management and educational outcomes in the region
Effective school leadership is vital to school management, teacher performance, and quality education. This study examined the leadership skills, core behavioral skills, and administrative practices of public secondary school heads in the Schools Division of Cagayan de Oro City during the school year 2025–2026. It assessed key leadership and behavioral competencies and determined their relationships with administrative practices. A descriptive-correlational design was used, with universal sampling of 105 school heads. Data were gathered through a standardized questionnaire anchored on the Results-Based Performance Management System and the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation were used. Findings showed high levels of leadership skills, core behavioral skills, and administrative practices. People development was the strongest leadership dimension, while teamwork and innovation were the most evident core behavioral competencies. Managing school operations and resources, and focusing on teaching and learning, were among the strongest administrative practices. The study found significant positive relationships between leadership skills and administrative practices, and between core behavioral skills and administrative practices. The study concludes that effective school leadership requires a combination of people leadership, professional behavior, instructional leadership, strategic management, and administrative competence. It recommends needs-based leadership development, mentoring and coaching, stronger results-focused practices, ongoing instructional leadership training, stakeholder engagement, reflective practice, and individualized professional development plans to support the continued growth of school heads.
This study investigated how school leadership teams drive equity-centered instructional practices in K–12 schools. It aimed to synthesize contemporary research to identify leadership behaviors, structures, and conditions that contribute to equitable student learning environments. This qualitative literature review examined 10 peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2019 and 2025. Studies were selected based on their focus on instructional leadership, equity, and K–12 educational contexts. A thematic analysis was used to identify recurring patterns and strategies across the literature. Five major themes emerged: (1) inclusive leadership that fosters shared decision-making and relational trust; (2) equity-focused leadership pipelines that prepare leaders to identify and address systemic barriers; (3) equity-oriented data practices that contextualize academic metrics and inform instructional change; (4) culturally responsive instruction supported by school-wide professional learning; and (5) collaborative leadership that centers family and community engagement. These themes were reinforced across studies involving varied contexts and leadership roles. The review was limited to studies published in English and focused primarily on U.S. educational contexts. Districts and policymakers can use these findings to design leadership preparation programs, refine professional development strategies, and align accountability frameworks with equity goals.
This study examined the relationships among teachers’ core behavioral competencies, professional performance, and students’ learning achievement in Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) in the Department of Education Districts of Ilog I and II, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 38 MAPEH teachers and 190 students from ten public secondary schools, selected through total enumeration and proportional sampling, respectively. Data were gathered using a standardized questionnaire based on DepEd Order No. 2, s. 2015, teachers’ Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form (IPCRF) ratings, students’ academic records, and supplementary key informant interviews. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis were employed. Findings revealed very high competencies in self-management (M = 3.826) and professionalism and ethics (M = 3.736), while result focus, teamwork, service orientation, and innovation were rated high. Teachers demonstrated very satisfactory professional performance (M = 3.557), whereas students achieved satisfactory academic performance in MAPEH (M = 84.142). Significant positive relationships were reported between result focus and teachers’ performance (r = .869, p = .028), innovation and students’ learning achievement (r = .797, p = .043), and teachers’ performance and students’ learning achievement (r = .797, p = .043). The findings highlighted the relevance of result-oriented practices, instructional innovation, and professional competence in supporting educational outcomes. Continuous professional development and a one-year competency enhancement plan were recommended to strengthen teaching effectiveness and student achievement. The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by emphasizing teacher development and improved learning outcomes. Its contribution to educational and institutional sustainability lies in supporting continuous professional improvement, instructional innovation, and sustained educational quality in public secondary schools.
Discipline assessment in elementary schools is essential for systematically monitoring students’ character development and providing a basis for continuous guidance. However, effective assessment depends not only on the availability of instruments but also on consistent implementation and the appropriate use of assessment results. This study aimed to describe the implementation of discipline attitude assessment instruments and the disciplinary behavior of students at SD Negeri 071206 Taluzusua. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The informants consisted of two homeroom teachers and one subject teacher selected purposively based on their direct involvement in teaching and attitude assessment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was strengthened through source, technique, and time triangulation. The findings indicated that instrument implementation involved three stages: planning, assessment, and utilization of results. Teachers used observation sheets and attitude assessment journals to assess punctuality, compliance with rules, and responsibility for completing assignments. Students generally demonstrated fairly good discipline, although their behavior was not yet consistent across all indicators. Assessment results were used to provide reminders, guidance, reinforcement, and continuous character development. These findings highlight the importance of systematic assessment and appropriate follow-up in fostering discipline in elementary schools. Abstract This study examines whether and how RME can be performed as an epistemic object to broaden business schools’ education on climate change. The research builds on a qualitative case study involving 10 Finnish business schools. The analysis reveals that RME is performed as both an epistemic object and a boundary object, with different implications for its embeddedness within institutions. Our findings show how accreditations have introduced RME as a boundary object enforcing performativity around sustainability themes yet enabling disciplines to maintain their distinct or limited roles. At the same time, RME is met with both resistance and compliance, depending on how well the object fits with disciplinary boundaries and career trajectories. Lastly, as an epistemic object, RME encourages co‐reflexivity, which is essential for climate‐proofing business schools. We discuss the possibilities of a hybrid orientation of RME as both a boundary object and an epistemic object for enforcing climate‐orientation in management education.
This study examined the implementation and perceived effectiveness of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) strategies in science among teachers and students in five public junior high schools in Panabo City, Davao del Norte. Anchored in Constructivist Learning Theory, Social Constructivism, Progressive Inquiry, and Cognitive Load Theory, it employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational design. Respondents comprised 31 Science teachers selected through total enumeration and 100 Grade 10 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated researcher-developed questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and independent samples t-tests. Teachers rated IBL implementation as Highly Implemented (M = 4.66) and its effectiveness as Highly Effective (M = 4.71), whereas students rated implementation as Implemented (M = 4.17) and effectiveness as Effective (M = 4.09). Significant positive relationships emerged between implementation and perceived effectiveness, with stronger associations in students’ assessments. Significant differences between teacher and student ratings indicated disparities in their classroom perceptions. The findings concerned student engagement, conceptual understanding, scientific inquiry skills, collaborative learning, and problem-solving abilities. The study proposed the INQUIRE+ Professional Development Program to strengthen Science teachers’ inquiry-based instruction through coaching, collaborative lesson study, reflective practice, and systematic monitoring and evaluation. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting improved Science instruction and continuing teacher development. Its contribution to educational and institutional sustainability lies in promoting sustained professional learning, school-based collaboration, and evidence-informed instructional improvement across participating schools and varied local classroom learning contexts. Further evaluation of the proposed program is needed to establish its effectiveness after implementation.
This study aims to explore and analyze effective learning strategies for gifted and talented students in elementary schools. Using a systematic literature review, it identifies the distinctive needs of gifted students and examines appropriate strategies, including curriculum enrichment, curriculum compacting, and acceleration. The findings indicate that gifted students need more challenging and targeted approaches to help them reach their full potential. Dynamic and relevant curriculum development, together with professional teacher training, is essential to creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment. Educational policies should therefore be more responsive to the needs of gifted students.
This action research study examined the relationship between social–emotional learning (SEL) and early mathematical achievement among transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students in a large urban Title I elementary school. National organizations emphasize that high-quality mathematics instruction for young children must consider cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social–emotional development. Guided by this framework, the study investigated whether systematic SEL instruction using the district adopted Second Step curriculum would increase students’ SEL competencies and support growth in foundational math skills measured by the Eureka Math Module 4 assessment. Using a pre- and post-test design, data were collected from eight students who received structured SEL and mathematics instruction over one semester. Results indicated consistent improvement in students’ SEL competencies, including executive functioning skills, alongside significant gains in mathematical performance. These findings align with prior research suggesting that SEL supports school readiness, adaptive learning behaviors, and academic achievement.
Reading is one of the main ways through which middle school students learn English, and the quality of their reading depends largely on the level of thinking involved in the learning process. In actual teaching, however, many reading tasks remain at a low cognitive level, and students encounter difficulty when questions require inference, evaluation, or creation. SOLO taxonomy, which describes the structural complexity of observable learning outcomes, provides a basis for planning and assessing reading tasks across cognitive levels. Drawing on representative studies from China and abroad, this paper reviews research on the application of SOLO taxonomy in English reading teaching in middle schools. It traces the origin and development of the taxonomy, analyzes its compatibility with reading teaching, and examines two lines of applied research, namely SOLO-based reading teaching design and SOLO-based reading teaching assessment. The review indicates that design research has consolidated a working model of tiered objectives, ascending tasks, and question chains, while assessment research has produced level descriptions, evaluation scales, and process-oriented frameworks. And the two lines converge on aligning objectives, activities, and assessment within one level system. The field nevertheless remains constrained by predominantly case-based methods, scarce controlled or longitudinal evidence, and uneven attention between junior and senior high schools. The review concludes that SOLO taxonomy provides an operational definition of thinking depth in reading and supports the integration of teaching, learning, and assessment, but that future work requires more rigorous empirical designs, validated instruments, and broader coverage of learners and reading contexts.

This action research study examined the impact of interactive math games on engagement and achievement in a second-grade classroom at an urban Title I elementary school. Fourteen students participated in a six-week multiplication unit that integrated weekly math games alongside standard instruction. Data sources included pre- and post-tests, interest surveys, and understanding surveys. Results showed very high student engagement, moderate gains in conceptual understanding, and a positive trend in achievement scores, with most students demonstrating growth. Results suggest that game-based learning can support mathematical practices and may help address achievement gaps for students of color when thoughtfully implemented.
Although professional collaboration among teachers plays a critical role in enhancing school effectiveness and instructional quality, empirical studies that jointly examine the organizational and individual determinants of this collaboration remain limited. This study aimed to identify variables that significantly predict the likelihood of elementary school teachers engaging in professional collaboration. The study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational survey design. The sample consisted of 310 teachers working in elementary schools in the city center of Siirt, selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using the Servant Leadership Scale and the Professional Collaboration subscale. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results showed that school level, participation in professional activities, professional seniority, and principals’ servant leadership behaviors significantly predicted teachers’ likelihood of engaging in professional collaboration. In contrast, gender, marital status, educational status, length of time working with the school principal, and length of service at the school were not significant predictors. Overall, the findings highlight the role of servant leadership.
Access to functional digital infrastructure is a prerequisite for teachers to convert information and communication Technology (ICT) competence into classroom practice, yet the quality and distribution of infrastructure remain uneven in many developing education systems. This paper examined the effect of the status of institutional ICT infrastructure and digital tools on teacher use of digital technologies in public junior schools (JS) in Kakamega County, Kenya. Relying on the Theory of Organizational Information Processing, the study used a convergent parallel mixed-methods design involving 332 responding JSS teachers, 11 Sub-County Directors of Education and observations from 78 schools. Factor analysis of 12 infrastructure indicators produced a factor-based index of 3.500, interpreted as good, although important differences were evident across infrastructure components. Electricity, computer rooms, broadband connectivity, and technical support were relatively strong, whereas specialized digital tools, suitable educational software and security mechanisms were weaker. Teachers most frequently identified inadequate computers/devices (26.8%) and unstable or absent internet connectivity (22.9%) as the leading infrastructure challenges. Pearson correlation showed a significant positive moderate relationship between infrastructure status and technology use (r = .417, p < .001). In Model 1, infrastructure significantly predicted technology use (B = .525, β approximately .417, p < .001; R² = .174). After adjustment for gender, age, education, teaching experience, subject and JSS enrolment, the detailed regression table reported B = .579, β = .465, t = 7.94, p < .001, R² = .473 and adjusted R² = .451. The null hypothesis was rejected. The paper concludes that functional infrastructure and appropriate digital tools are essential enabling conditions, but infrastructure development should address advanced tools, software, connectivity, maintenance and security rather than focusing only on basic provision. This study also recommends that the infrastructure budgets should move beyond hardware acquisition to include suitable educational software, specialized digital tools, maintenance, backups, antivirus protection and user-safety measures.
This study examined the contribution of service delivery to students’ enrolment in public secondary schools in Busega District, Tanzania. The study was guided by the need to understand how the quality and responsiveness of educational services influence parents’ decisions to enroll their children and students’ retention in public secondary schools. A mixed-methods approach with a predominantly quantitative orientation and an explanatory research design was employed. The study targeted 655 respondents from 30 public secondary schools, from whom a sample of 104 respondents was selected, comprising 85 teachers, 6 heads of schools, 6 Ward Education Officers, 1 District Education Officer, and 6 school board chairpersons. Data were collected using questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and observation. Validity was established through expert and supervisor review, while reliability was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha, which yielded a coefficient of 0.916 for 20 questionnaire items. Quantitative data were analysed using frequencies and percentages through SPSS version 26, while qualitative data were analysed thematically. The results showed that service delivery played an important role in contributing to student enrolment. More specifically, the majority of teachers were in agreement or strongly in agreement that effective academic service delivery contributed to increased enrolment. Moreover, they noted that quality teaching and learning contributed to the decision making of parents on enrolment of their children and that educational support services in time contributed to enrolment. Also, teachers noted that effective administrative services attracted many students and that effective service delivery generally contributed to student enrolment and retention. Another finding from open-ended questions showed that effective school-community relations and sufficient learning facilities played an important role in student enrolment. The study concluded that quality, timely, and responsive service delivery strengthened school reputation, parental confidence, students’ retention, and enrolment. The study recommends that Busega District Council and school authorities improve teaching and learning services, strengthen students’ support and administrative systems, enhance school-community partnerships, provide adequate infrastructure, and maintain safe and supportive learning environments to increase students’ enrolment in public secondary schools
This study designed and validated a Technology-Enhanced Inquiry-Based Learning Package (TIBLEP) for junior secondary natural science in a resource-constrained context, addressing the offline connectivity barriers common in under-resourced schools. A Design and Development Research (DDR) approach guided needs analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, and field implementation. TIBLEP was built as an offline environment combining curriculum-aligned content, guided inquiry, multimedia demonstrations, self-paced navigation, and formative feedback. Five experts assessed the package across six dimensions. Sixty Grade 8 students from two intact classes then completed a five-week field trial (30 in the TIBLEP group and 30 in the conventional group), with interviews capturing participant experiences. Expert ratings were consistently positive (grand mean = 3.69, SD = 0.29), with the highest ratings for overall suitability (M = 3.78) and the lowest for technology integration (M = 3.60). Posttest achievement was higher for TIBLEP (M = 68.30, SD = 6.20) than for the control group (M = 54.70, SD = 5.80). Interviews indicated perceived gains in conceptual clarity, autonomy, engagement, collaboration, and teachers' technological competence. TIBLEP is a feasible, expert-validated offline model for inquiry-oriented science learning where connectivity is unreliable and access remains uneven. The package offers teachers and policymakers a validated, curriculum-aligned tool for delivering inquiry-based science instruction without depending on internet access.
This study explored collaborative lesson planning practices as part of lesson study-based supervision in selected public primary schools in Bagamoyo District, Tanzania. The study was guided by Social Constructivist Theory and employed a qualitative case study design, with Bagamoyo District as the bounded case and four selected public primary schools as embedded units of analysis. A total of 34 participants, comprising 28 classroom teachers, four head teachers, and two Ward Education Officers, were purposively selected. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, observation, and document analysis and were analysed thematically. The findings revealed that collaborative lesson planning was widely practiced in the selected schools through joint preparation of lesson plans, discussion of learning objectives and teaching strategies, development of teaching aids, and sharing of instructional knowledge and resources. Teachers reported that these practices enhanced professional learning, teaching confidence, pedagogical knowledge, and collective problem-solving. However, the implementation of collaborative lesson planning was constrained by heavy teaching workloads, limited time, inadequate instructional resources, and competing administrative responsibilities. The study concludes that collaborative lesson planning constitutes an important foundation of lesson study-based supervision and provides teachers with opportunities for continuous professional learning and improvement of instructional practice. The study recommends that school leaders and education authorities allocate adequate time and resources for collaborative lesson planning, strengthen institutional support, and minimise competing responsibilities that interfere with regular lesson study activities
This study determined the administrative strategies employed by school leaders in implementing enhanced digital-based literacy instruction in selected public elementary schools in the City of Naga, Cebu (Region VII), and Calubian, Leyte (Region VIII), during School Year 2025–2026. It examined the respondents’ demographic and professional profiles; the level of implementation of digital-based literacy instruction in terms of curriculum integration, technological infrastructure and resources, and teacher pedagogical competence; the administrative strategies employed in resource allocation and maintenance, capacity building and professional development, and instructional supervision and monitoring; and the issues and concerns encountered. The study employed a quantitative descriptive-correlational and descriptive-comparative research design. The respondents comprised 110 school heads and teachers from six public elementary schools, consisting of six school heads (5.45%) and 104 teachers (94.55%). Data were gathered using a researcher-made structured questionnaire anchored on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework and the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH). Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation were used for descriptive analysis, while an independent-samples t-test or analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were proposed for examining differences and relationships. The findings revealed that digital-based literacy instruction was implemented to a great extent (overall weighted mean = 3.45, SD = 0.42), while administrative strategies were employed to a great extent (overall weighted mean = 3.51, SD = 0.39). Instructional supervision and monitoring were revealed to be the most frequently implemented administrative strategy, whereas technological infrastructure and resources were revealed to be the area requiring the greatest improvement. A significant positive relationship was revealed between administrative strategies and the level of implementation (r = 0.62, p < 0.001). Limited internet connectivity, insufficient digital equipment, and the need for continuous teacher training were revealed to be the major implementation concerns. These findings suggest the value of an enhanced digital-based literacy instruction framework emphasizing strategic resource allocation, sustained professional development, reliable technological infrastructure, and consistent instructional supervision.
This study examined the coping mechanisms and pedagogical challenges experienced by elementary teachers in utilizing interactive multimedia tools in selected public elementary schools in the Schools Division of Leyte, during School Year 2025–2026. Specifically, it determined the teachers’ demographic and professional profiles, assessed the extent of pedagogical challenges encountered in terms of technological fluency, competence, curriculum and lesson integration, time management, and resource management, and identified the coping mechanisms used to address these challenges. The study also examined whether significant differences existed in the teachers’ assessments when grouped according to their demographic characteristics and determined the relationship between pedagogical challenges and coping mechanisms. A quantitative descriptive-correlational and descriptive-comparative research design was employed, involving the total population of 145 elementary teachers from five selected public schools. Data were gathered using a researcher-made questionnaire validated by educational technology experts and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, t-test, analysis of variance, and Pearson product-moment correlation at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that teachers experienced varying degrees of difficulty in integrating interactive multimedia tools, particularly in managing technological demands, aligning digital resources with lessons, allocating preparation time, and addressing limitations in available resources. Despite these challenges, teachers demonstrated adaptive coping practices, particularly through collaboration and peer support, resourcefulness, adaptation, personal reflection, and self-care. The findings further indicated differences in some assessments when respondents were grouped according to selected demographic characteristics, while the relationship between pedagogical challenges and coping mechanisms reflected the teachers’ efforts to adjust to technology-related demands. Based on the findings, enhanced digital-based literacy teaching-learning activities were developed to strengthen teachers’ technological and pedagogical competencies and support more practical, engaging, and sustainable technology integration in elementary classrooms.
Purpose: Although leadership behaviors have been widely examined in relation to teacher outcomes, limited empirical research has explored how different leadership dimensions influence teachers’ morale within highly centralized educational systems such as Thailand’s primary education sector. Existing studies have often emphasized administrative control and procedural compliance, while comparatively less attention has been given to the role of relationship-oriented leadership behaviors in sustaining teachers’ morale within centralized administrative contexts. This study therefore examines the relationship between leadership behaviors within educational administration and teachers’ morale in Thai primary schools in central Thailand. Research design, data and methodology: This study employed a quantitative research design using a survey approach. Data were collected from 417 teachers and educational personnel working in primary schools across central Thailand through anonymous self-administered questionnaires. Leadership behaviors were categorized into task-oriented and relationship-oriented dimensions, while teachers’ morale was examined through Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships between leadership behaviors and teachers’ morale. Results: The findings revealed that both task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership behaviors were positively associated with teachers’ morale. Relationship-oriented leadership behaviors, particularly motivation and participation, demonstrated stronger predictive influence on teachers’ morale than task-oriented dimensions such as planning and supervision. The regression model explained a substantial proportion of variance in teachers’ morale, indicating that interpersonal and participatory leadership practices play an important role within centralized educational environments. Conclusions: The study contributes empirical evidence to educational administration research by demonstrating that leadership effectiveness within centralized educational systems may involve not only administrative coordination and policy implementation but also relationship-oriented leadership practices that support teachers’ professional well-being. The findings further suggest that balancing organizational structure with human-centered leadership may help sustain teachers’ morale within Thai primary schools.
Introduction The rapid expansion of social media has created new opportunities for adolescent connection but has also heightened risks of involvement in online aggression and cyberbullying. This study examined how problematic social media use, social media concealment, and parental media monitoring relate to cyberbullying victimization and perpetration among adolescents. Methods Participants include 686 adolescents ages 12–18 from 12 schools. Logistic generalized linear mixed models were used to account for the nested structure of students within schools. Results Results indicated that both problematic social media use and concealment from parents were significantly associated with greater odds of cyberbullying victimization and perpetration, whereas parental media monitoring was not a significant predictor in either model. Discussion Findings highlight the importance of addressing adolescents’ specific patterns of media use and point to multi-systemic prevention approaches involving families, schools, and technology developers to mitigate cyberbullying risks.
Depression is a leading cause of illness and disability among adolescents worldwide, yet evidence on its burden among school-going adolescents in rural Kenyan counties remains limited. This study determined the prevalence and socio-demographic factors of depression among secondary school students in Bungoma County, Kenya, to provide baseline evidence for mental health planning. The study was guided by Hopelessness Theory of Depression and Ecological Systems Theory. An analytical mixed methods cross-sectional study design was adopted. The target population consisted of secondary school students, with a sample size of 400 respondents determined using Taro Yamane formula. The respondents were selected through multistage stratified and systematic sampling from three sub-counties of Bungoma County (Mt. Elgon, Kimilili and Bungoma South). Quantitative data were collected using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and a structured questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression in SPSS version 28. Qualitative data were obtained through ten Focus group discussions with students and twelve in-depth interviews with class teachers, and analyzed thematically. The overall prevalence of depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 score ≥ 5) was 55.5% (n = 222), 41.5% (n = 166) had mild depression, 9.5% (n = 38) moderate depression, 3.5% (n = 14) moderately severe depression and 1.0% (n = 4) severe depression, while 44.5% (n = 178) were not depressed. Female students were found to be almost twice as likely to experience higher levels of depression compared to the males (AOR= 1.71, P= 0.04). On the other hand, students in mixed day and boarding schools were 78% less likely to experience higher level of depression, (AOR = 0.22, P<0.001), compared to those in girls’ boarding and day schools. Further, students who live with extended family were more than twice as likely as those with both parents to experience higher depression levels (AOR = 2.10, P= 0.04). The qualitative data pointed to gender and family structure as possible associations of depression. Depression is highly prevalent among secondary school students in Bungoma County, with one in seven students experiencing moderate to severe depression. Routine school-based mental health screening using validated tools such as the PHQ-9 is recommended to enable early identification, counselling and referral of affected students.
The article discusses the theoretical and practical foundations for improving an inclusive digital learning environment aimed at developing the information competence of deaf and hard-ofhearing high school students. Drawing on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and official and scholarly sources from Uzbekistan, it shows that 22,381 deaf and hard-of-hearing people were registered in the country in 2021, 13,501 of them (about 60.3%) living in rural areas, while 4,965 children study in specialized boarding schools.
This study assessed the reading comprehension skills and academic performance in English of Grade 3 learners in selected public elementary schools in the Albuera District, Department of Education (DepEd), Schools Division of Leyte, Region VIII, during School Year 2025–2026, as a basis for developing interactive reading activities. A descriptive-quantitative research design was employed, involving six teachers and 90 learners from six public elementary schools. The learners were selected through simple random sampling. Data were gathered using a structured paper-and-pencil questionnaire covering respondents’ profiles, learners’ performance in five reading comprehension strategies, academic performance in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and storytelling, and the issues and concerns encountered in implementing reading comprehension activities. Frequency counts, percentages, and weighted means were used to analyze the data, together with a test of association to examine the relationships between instructional strategies and learners’ academic performance. The findings revealed that the strategies used in reading comprehension obtained an overall average weighted mean of 3.26, interpreted as Highly Effective. Story mapping and the use of photographs received the highest ratings, with weighted means of 3.30 each, followed by activating prior knowledge at 3.23 and monitoring and clarifying at 3.20. In terms of academic performance, learners demonstrated a lack of mastery in noting details (M = 2.20), decoding (M = 2.23), phonics (M = 2.40), vocabulary (M = 2.30), and storytelling (M = 2.40). The findings further revealed that monitoring and clarifying and the use of photographs had statistically significant associations with selected academic competencies, whereas activating prior knowledge and story mapping did not demonstrate significant associations with the measured competencies. The specific association coefficients and p-values were not available in the supplied results. These findings highlight the need to strengthen learners’ foundational reading skills, particularly identifying details, decoding words, applying phonics, developing vocabulary, and organizing narratives. Based on the findings, interactive reading activities are proposed for consideration and implementation by the concerned school officials, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and the DepEd Schools Division of Leyte, to address learners’ literacy needs and improve their reading comprehension and academic performance.
This study examined the reading skills of Grade 3 learners and their relationship with academic performance in English in selected public elementary schools in the Bantayan District, Schools Division of Cebu Province, during School Year 2026–2027. Specifically, it assessed learners’ proficiency in phonemic awareness, phonics, text recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension; described the profiles of the teacher and learner respondents; and determined whether a significant relationship existed between reading skills and academic performance in English. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design involving 100 respondents, comprising 96 Grade 3 learners, with 24 learners from each of four schools, and four teachers from Pooc, Sta. Fe Central, Vito, and Baigad Elementary Schools. Data were gathered through a modified survey questionnaire and informal interviews. Frequency counts, percentages, weighted means, standard deviations, and Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient were used to analyze the collected data. The findings revealed that 70 of the 96 Grade 3 learners (72.92%) demonstrated effective foundational reading skills, while the remaining 26 learners (27.08%) were identified as potentially requiring additional reading support, depending on the established assessment criteria. These results underscore the importance of sustaining effective reading instruction while addressing the needs of learners experiencing difficulties in foundational literacy. The study proposes augmented reading skills learning activities designed to strengthen learners’ reading proficiency, improve comprehension, and support the development of essential literacy competencies. The proposed activities may serve as a basis for differentiated instruction, targeted reading interventions, and continuous monitoring of learner progress. Furthermore, the study emphasizes collaboration among teachers, school administrators, and parents in creating supportive learning environments that promote reading development and improved academic performance in English.
Background: Job instability within teachers in Nepal's private schools is a persistent matter, however its combined impacts on teaching performance and organizational trust remain under investigated. In this research, "permanent" denotes benefit-eligible status (teachers who get a provident fund, social security fund, insurance allowance, and government-standard paid leave after a certain qualifying period) whereas "temporary or contract-based" denotes teachers are deprived of one or more of these advantages. Objectives: This research investigates (i) the impact of job stability type on teaching performance and workplace effectiveness, (ii) the relationship between organizational job-security assist and organizational trust, and (iii) the joint predictive effect of both independent variables, along with quality of communication and collaboration tested as a possible moderator. Methods: A quantitative comparative-correlational approach was applied. Data were gathered from 219 teachers in private schools of Kathmandu Valley via a structured questionnaire utilizing a 5-point Likert scale. Item-level descriptives applied median and IQR; construct-level composites were examined applying independent-samples *t*-test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression in SPSS. Job status was defined by availability of organizational benefits: permanent (benefit-eligible) teachers get provident fund, social security fund contributions, insurance allowance, and government-standard paid leave after a qualifying period, whereas contract-based teachers are deprived of. Results: Permanent teachers reported substantially higher teaching performance (M difference = 0.254, *p* = .036) and organizational trust (M difference = 0.269, *p* = .027) than temporary teachers. Multiple regression displayed that perceived employment stability (β = .560, *p* < .001) and institutional job-security support (β = .352, *p* < .001) combinely predicted teaching performance, R² = .793, F(2, 216) = 414.87, *p* < .001. For organizational trust, both predictors were additionally significant (β = .443 and .510, both *p* < .001), R² = .863, F(2, 216) = 677.95, *p* < .001. Moderation by communication quality was not assisted (all four interactions non-significant; *p* > .05). EFA extracted two factors justifying 73.75% of variance; Harman's test exhibited 54.64% on the first factor, just above the 50% threshold. Conclusion: Both perceived employment stability and institutional job-security assist independently and collectively predict teaching performance and organizational trust. Permanent employment is connected with higher results. Moderation by communication quality was not assisted. Novelty: This is within the first research to integrate employment stability type and institutional job-security assist in collectively predicting both teaching performance and organizational trust in Nepal's private school field, applying ordinal-appropriate item-level descriptives and composite-level parametric analysis.
The study aimed to find whether differences exist in the perspective of teachers towards online learning when grouped according to profile. Specifically, the study endeavored to describe the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, civil status, and educational attainment; determine the extent of teachers’ perspective towards online learning in the areas of access, interaction, response, and results; ascertain the level of teachers’ preparedness towards online learning in teaching social studies; and find out whether a significant difference exists in the preparedness of teachers towards online learning when grouped according to age, gender, civil status, and educational attainment. The study was conducted among the national high schools in the Division of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon for the School Year 2020-2021. A total of 96 Social Studies teachers were drawn from (6) national schools through purposive sampling. To gather relevant information needed for the study, the researcher adopted the questionnaire developed by Larsen (2012) and Lichoro (2015). Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and analysis of variance were used to treat the data. The majority of the teachers were in middle adulthood and were predominantly female. It is further revealed that most of them were single and bachelor’s degree holders. Access and interaction were observed in great extent, while responses and results were demonstrated in moderate extent, suggesting that the teachers’ perspective towards online learning showed certainty in the way they take online learning as a learning platform in this pandemic period. Similarly, teachers’ preparedness towards online learning yielded positive results in all indicators, implying that teachers consider online learning as a powerful tool for them to teach and support the learning of the students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. There was a significant difference in the preparedness of teachers when they were grouped according to age, where younger teachers are construed to be ready for this kind of learning delivery, while sex, civil status, and educational attainment did not show significant differences. This means that regardless of their characteristics in these three variables, their preparedness for online learning is the same. Thus, school administrators have to consider teachers to acquire new skills, sharpen existing ones, perform better, increase productivity and be better teachers in this new way of approaching learning.
Background: Teacher agency is essential to educational transformation, yet teacher development in Nepal often relies on standardized training approaches that emphasize prescribed methods rather than critical reflection, contextual experimentation, and collaborative learning. Objectives: This study explores how teachers develop and exercise agency through Critical–Creative Pedagogy (CCP) and participatory action research in two Nepali public-school contexts. Methods: Using a participatory action research approach, the study examined two contexts: a cross-school initiative involving 11 teachers from eight public schools in Helambu and a school-based initiative involving 30 teachers at Janata Secondary School in Bardibas. Data were generated over nine months through workshop interactions, teacher reflections, lesson plans, classroom observations, reflective dialogues, and informal conversations with students. The analysis examined how reflection, dialogue, classroom experimentation, and collective professional learning contributed to the development of teacher agency. Results: The findings indicate that teacher agency developed through iterative cycles of reflection, action, observation, dialogue, and re-reflection rather than through standardized training alone. Teachers began questioning textbook-centred and examination-driven practices and experimenting with learning activities grounded in students’ experiences and local contexts. Contextual adaptation and engagement with the wider school community, including school management committees and parents, emerged as important dimensions of pedagogical change. The Bardibas initiative appeared to foster stronger shared reflection, mutual support, and continuity of pedagogical change than the cross-school arrangement in Helambu. Conclusion: Teacher agency is a relational and context-dependent process that develops through critical reflection, pedagogical experimentation, and collaborative learning. Sustaining educational transformation requires professional learning opportunities that connect teachers’ agency with local knowledge, school-level collaboration, and community engagement. Novelty: By examining participatory action research across two distinct school contexts, this study highlights how the institutional setting of teacher collaboration may shape opportunities for collective reflection, mutual support, and sustained pedagogical change. It also foregrounds the importance of connecting teacher learning with school and community contexts in efforts to transform classroom practice.
Traditional games enter school programmes as cultural resources, yet the processes connecting participation with collective values remain underexplored. This study examines how schools organize egrang, a traditional stilt-walking game, as cultural pedagogy in Scouting. An interpretive multiple-case design involved four public junior secondary schools in Semarang, Indonesia. Participants included student Scouts, Scout leaders, teachers, principals, and deputy principals. Participant observation, semi-structured interviews, focus-group discussions, and document analysis informed reflexive thematic analysis and cross-case synthesis. Four arrangements emerged: patrol challenges, exploration stations, cultural-preservation activities, and camping programmes. Shared objectives organized peer assistance, responsibility, solidarity, and leadership, while adult facilitation linked experience with cultural meaning. The comparison shows that cooperation depended on task organization and reflection rather than the traditional status of the game alone. An interpretive model connects cultural practice, patrol interaction, and reflection with the possible continued enactment and negotiation of values. Bourdieu’s habitus provides an analytical lens, but the findings do not demonstrate enduring dispositions. Schools should combine shared objectives, inclusive roles, and structured reflection; longitudinal research should examine whether these practices persist beyond Scouting.
Humanistic–religious education integrates spiritual values, social relationships, and character development in primary education. However, its conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, and outcome evidence remain inconsistently documented, particularly in Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama (SPK) schools. This study presents a systematic review protocol with preliminary synthesis to examine conceptualisation, implementation practices, potential best practices, and contextual conditions. The planned review covers publications from 2014 to 2026 across Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and Indonesian academic sources. The preliminary corpus comprises ten studies identified through targeted searches, including qualitative case studies, quantitative and mixed-methods research, and conceptual analysis. Formal database searching, PRISMA screening, and critical appraisal remain incomplete. Preliminary patterns indicate that vertical–spiritual and horizontal–social dimensions predominate, while habituation and school culture feature prominently in implementation. Explicit curriculum mapping and family–community engagement are less consistently documented, and comparable pupil-outcome evidence remains limited. Evidence concerning SPK schools is particularly sparse, precluding definitive best-practice claims. A proposed four-layer framework may guide further synthesis of conceptual dimensions, implementation mechanisms, outcomes, and contextual conditions. These preliminary observations require verification through completion of the systematic review before supporting evidence-based recommendations.
Our study examines the mechanisms of retention for non-mechanized and unpaid teachers (NU/NP) in public schools or institutions under the Protestant conventionized system, not as an act of volunteerism, but as a dialectical phenomenon shaped by the tension between commitment and constraint. Based on a mixed survey conducted with NU/NP teachers, school principals, and Protestant coordinators, we showed that the permanence of these teachers cannot be explained solely by vocation, nor by the painful coexistence of these two logics. The dialectical thematic analysis of the respondents’ statements reveals pairs of opposing forces: vocation/exploitation, hope/slowness, divine service/survival. Thus, 74.8% of respondents simultaneously express a missionary attachment to the school and a feeling of experienced distributive injustice. This contradiction, far from causing a break, actually drives retention itself: the expectation, Legitimate faith, fear of losing accumulated seniority, but also the lack of job opportunities elsewhere; all prevent people from leaving. On the institutional side, managers maintain this paradox through a multi-valued discourse, mixing structural helplessness with the instrumentalization of faith. The study concludes that keeping NU/NP loyal is dialectical because it doesn’t rely on satisfaction, but on the impossibility of choosing between staying out of conviction and leaving out of dignity. It makes recommendations to the State: increase the number of schools, ensure retirement and mechanization for NU and NP; to the Church, to avoid reassuring NU and NP that their future mechanization is the State’s responsibility through religious discourse and unkept promises.
Allocation of educational resources affects the learning environment and equality of opportunity for students. Frontline teachers' views on the urban-rural disparity in educational resources for Chinese primary and secondary schools are investigated in this study. An exploratory comparative design was used, and based on questionnaire responses from 26 teachers, six were from urban schools and twenty were from rural or township schools. Teacher staffing and qualifications, school facilities, digital resources, curriculum implementation, professional development, family cooperation, funding and policy execution were also analysed. Therefore, the deficiencies in urban and rural areas cannot be confined to primary and secondary school facilities. Rural teachers reported more restrictions in specialist staffing, professional development, curriculum provision, digital resources, family support and the actual implementation of educational balancing policies. Teachers in both groups also listed the recruitment, training and retention of teachers as problems. Therefore, in addition to the supply of resources, schools need to have the ability to use and maintain these resources effectively for educational equity. Due to the small and unequal sample and the reliance on self-reported data, the findings should be interpreted as exploratory. Future research should use larger samples and combine teacher perspectives with student, school, and longitudinal data to further examine how resource allocation affects educational opportunities.
The transition from early childhood education to kindergarten is a critical developmental period for all children, and one that can be particularly demanding for those with special educational needs (SEN). This article presents findings from a mixed methods case study conducted in two private schools in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This study investigates how parental attitudes, teacher preparedness, communication gaps, and structural barriers influence school transitions. Findings reveal a consistent divergence in perspective: parents generally regarded transition difficulties as normal and time-limited, whereas teachers identified sustained, complex challenges related to emotional regulation, large class sizes, limited specialist training, and insufficient information about incoming children. Parental reluctance to accept a formal diagnosis was viewed as a significant barrier in both schools. Given the small and unevenly distributed sample, reported divergences are viewed as illustrative rather than generalisable. The study contributes to a growing body of research evidence on inclusive educational transitions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) context. Its originality lies in comparing perspectives within an under-researched educational and cultural context, revealing differences in how parents and teachers perceive transition difficulties. This context-specific evidence has implications for educational policy and practice.
Amid persistent classroom shortages in resource constrained educational system, makeshift classrooms have emerged as a widespread yet underexamined learning environment that may profoundly shape students’ academic experiences and outcomes.practical response to the shortage of classrooms. Nevertheless, there is limited knowledge concerning how these makeshift classrooms influence students’ educational experiences, especially in Social Studies. The study explored the lived experiences and academic performances of the students in learning Social Studies in the makeshift classrooms in Upper Sepaka Integrated School, Talahik Integrated School and Tapok Integrated School in Surallah North District. A phenomenological research design was used. Data were collected via in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicated that students encountered several challenges including poor classroom conditions, instructional challenges, learning challenges and lack of involvement. Nevertheless, they showed resilience through peer collaboration, independent learning, self-regulation, and a positive mindset. Teachers also made adaptations includes interactive instruction, instructional adaptations, effective classroom management, and environmental adjustments to continue learning. However, the makeshift educational environment continued to impact on academic results with reduced engagement, interrupted learning, poor academic performance and reduced learning development. The key finding of the study is that although students and teachers can adapt to challenging learning environments, adaptation alone cannot compensate for poor classroom conditions. The findings highlight the need for better learning facilities, increased instructional support, and more responsive educational policies to provide equitable opportunities for success for students in marginalized learning spaces.
Twenty First Century Skills (21st CS) are considered to be a pathway of STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Education, yet there is limited evidence at a large scale of the implementation of STEM/STEAM pedagogy in secondary schools of Pakistan. The research sought to understand the self-reported classroom practices of secondary school teachers across nine domains of pedagogical and infrastructural practices associated with STEM/STEAM learning, and to examine the differences in practices by teachers from different localities and males and females. The design of the study was descriptive, cross-sectional survey. The respondents comprised 1,099 STEM/STEAM engaged secondary teachers from all seven administrative provinces/territories of Pakistan who filled an 8-item Yes/No Resource Availability index along with a structured 51 item questionnaire on a 5-point Likert scale, which measured 8 practice constructs: Project- and Problem-Based Learning, Hands-On and Model-Making Practices, Inquiry-Based Learning, Use of Digital Tools and Technology, Arts Integration, Collaborative Learning, Problem-Solving and Design Thinking, and STEM/STEAM Competitions and Achievement Exposure. The instrument was expert validated and showed great internal consistency (α overall was .905). Results: Teachers indicated that they were implementing Project/Problem Based Learning (PBL) at a high level (M = 3.57), Competitions and Achievement Exposure at a high level (M = 3.48), and Arts Integration at a moderate level (M = 3.42), while they were implementing Collaborative Learning at a moderate level (M = 3.39), Problem Solving and Design Thinking at a moderate level (M = 3.34), and Inquiry Based Learning at a moderate level (M = 3.32), and Hands On/Model Making at a comparatively low level (M = 3.05). In general, 49.5% of cases, material and infrastructural resources were available. There was no significant difference between the availability of resources available to teachers by gender, but there was a significant difference by urban and rural (χ² = 22.449, p < .001), with teachers from urban schools saying they had less available in their classroom than teachers from rural schools, possibly because of the overcrowding of urban schools, rather than the fact that rural school resources are superior. Conclusion: relatively high levels of engagement with teacher-directed/low material cost practices and practices depending on sustained student autonomy or on physical materials or infrastructure or on the digital are relatively limited, with the exception of practices that rely on physical materials and infrastructure. Implications: The results justify investing more in infrastructure and professional development in hands-on, inquiry, and technologically focused practice and in the reallocation of resources based on per-capita classroom load instead of on an urban/rural administrative classification.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is increasingly recognized as an important component of elementary education, supporting students’ social-emotional development, engagement, well-being, and academic learning. However, the relationships among teacher social-emotional competence, learning climate, implementation quality, and student outcomes remain insufficiently integrated, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aims to synthesize literature on these relationships and examine their implications for SEL implementation in Indonesian elementary schools. A narrative literature review was conducted using an existing source corpus supplemented by relevant peer-reviewed literature. The synthesis examined major themes concerning teacher competence, classroom practices, learning climate, student outcomes, implementation conditions, and contextual adaptation. The findings suggest that teacher competence is associated with the quality of SEL enactment, while a supportive learning climate provides a context for student participation and social-emotional learning. Implementation quality and cultural context also shape how SEL is adapted and sustained. These relationships should not be interpreted as a universally established causal pathway. The review highlights the need for context-responsive teacher development, school-level support, and rigorous evaluation of SEL practices. Future empirical research in Indonesian elementary schools should investigate these relationships using longitudinal and mixed-methods approaches.
Character education in Vocational High Schools (SMK) faces challenges in aligning technical skill development with student work ethics. This study aims to analyze the role of the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS) in supporting character education at SMK Puspita Bangsa, South Tangerang City. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, with data validity tested using source and technique triangulation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that OSIS plays a crucial role through three main aspects: (1) acting as a peer role model for discipline; (2) executing structured work programs encompassing religious, disciplinary, leadership, and social care dimensions; and (3) internalizing industrial work culture values. The main obstacles encountered include the dynamics of Field Work Practice (PKL) schedules and fluctuations in member participation, which are mitigated through flexible coordination and school management support. This study concludes that OSIS is effectively a strategic vehicle for student character development in vocational schools.
This article investigates the role of project-based learning in the process of teaching visual arts, particularly from the perspective of developing students’ creative, research, and collaborative competencies. The object of the study is the process of teaching visual arts in a general education school, while the subject of the research is the pedagogical potential of applying project-based learning within this process. The aim of the article is to substantiate that project-based learning can transform visual arts lessons into an active research-oriented and creative process, in which the learner not only acquires artistic knowledge, but also independently explores cultural, social, and aesthetic issues. The results of the experimental work conducted within the framework of the study indicate that project-based activities contribute to the analysis of information, the visual interpretation of ideas, group interaction, and the development of creative solutions. It is concluded that project-based learning enhances the effectiveness of visual arts education by fostering proactive, responsible, and independently thinking learners who are able to respond to cultural issues through art.
Introduction Research on the practicum has focused on student teachers, mentors and partnerships between universities and schools, while the pupils in whose classrooms student teachers are placed have rarely been asked about this experience. This study examined how pupils in Ecuadorian host schools perceive the presence, support and influence of student teachers, and to what extent these perceptions can be trusted as evidence. Methods Two age-differentiated questionnaires, with pictographic scales from early childhood education to third grade and verbal scales from fourth grade onward, were administered through a mobile application by the student teachers or by members of the research team hired for data collection (project staff). The dataset comprised 2,453 valid evaluations from 1,140 pupils in 123 classrooms of 38 schools. Analyses included descriptive statistics for the first evaluation of each pupil, agreement between consecutive weekly evaluations, generalized estimating equations that accounted for the nesting of evaluations within pupils, classrooms and schools, a within-pupil comparison of evaluations collected by student teachers and by project staff, and latent class analysis. Results Between 91.5% and 98.5% of pupils gave favorable ratings on seven of eight items, while 69.6% of older pupils always felt comfortable asking student teachers for help. Ratings collected by project staff were lower than those collected by student teachers, especially for comfort in asking for help and perceived influence on learning. Responses of the youngest pupils concentrated in the highest category and did not discriminate reliably between individual pupils, whereas older pupils showed fair to moderate stability on most items and formed highly enthusiastic and moderately favorable profiles. Discussion Pupils perceive student teachers favorably, although part of this favorability reflects social desirability and the developmental limits of young respondents. Pupil voice can inform practicum evaluation when questionnaires are administered by someone other than the student teacher being evaluated and are interpreted according to the age of the pupils.
Mathematics achievement remains a major concern in Ghanaian senior high schools despite the increasing emphasis on effective classroom assessment and instructional quality. This study examined the relationship between formative assessment practices and perceived students’ mathematical achievement, while investigating the mediating role of cognitive activation-oriented instruction. The study adopted a positivist paradigm with a quantitative cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected from 320 Senior High School students selected through a multistage sampling procedure from two public senior high schools in Ghana. A structured questionnaire measured formative assessment practices, cognitive activation-oriented instruction, and perceived students’ mathematical achievement. Data were analysed using SPSS version 23 and AMOS version 23. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling were employed to test the measurement and structural models. The findings revealed that formative assessment practices significantly predicted perceived students’ mathematical achievement and were positively associated with cognitive activation-oriented instruction. Cognitive activation-oriented instruction was also positively associated with perceived students’ mathematical achievement and statistically mediated the relationship between formative assessment practices and perceived students’ mathematical achievement. The findings suggest that formative assessment practices and cognitive activation-oriented instruction are positively associated with students’ perceptions of their mathematical achievement.
Teacher development is essential for improving instructional quality and supporting sustainable school improvement. This study examined teacher development needs across educational stages in selected schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by focusing on three key domains: classroom practices, family engagement, and school support. Using a quantitative descriptive-comparative research design, data were collected through a structured survey administered to teachers representing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Primary, and Secondary levels. Descriptive statistics, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and rank-order analysis were employed to determine the levels of teacher development indicators, examine differences across educational stages, and identify priority areas for professional development. The findings revealed high levels of teacher development across all three domains, with classroom practices receiving the highest ratings, followed by family engagement and school support. No statistically significant differences were found in classroom practices, family engagement, or school support across educational stages, indicating that teachers shared similar professional experiences regardless of teaching level. However, item-level analysis identified important developmental priorities, including strengthening student motivation, enhancing family-school partnerships, improving student well-being monitoring, and expanding opportunities for teacher participation in school decision-making. Based on these findings, the Teacher Development Enhancement Framework (TDEF) was developed to provide stage-specific interventions for EYFS, Primary, and Secondary teachers. The framework offers school leaders and policymakers an evidence-based guide for designing targeted professional development initiatives that strengthen instructional practice, organizational support, and collaborative partnerships, ultimately contributing to sustainable teacher growth and improved educational quality in UAE schools.
Teacher wellbeing has become an increasingly important concern in sustainable education systems because teachers’ professional experiences influence instructional quality, organizational resilience, and the long-term capacity of schools to maintain supportive learning environments. Contemporary perspectives on educational sustainability emphasize that schools are sustainable not only through academic effectiveness but also through their ability to foster participation, professional recognition, supportive relationships, and psychological resources among teachers. Within this perspective, shared instructional leadership can be considered an organizational resource, while teacher job satisfaction represents an important psychological resource contributing to the human foundations of socially sustainable schools. This study examined the relationship between shared instructional leadership and teacher job satisfaction among secondary school teachers in Northern Cyprus. A quantitative correlational research design was employed with 300 teachers working in public secondary schools during the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected using the Shared Instructional Leadership Scale and the Teacher Job Satisfaction Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple linear regression analysis were conducted to examine the relationship between shared instructional leadership and teacher job satisfaction. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between shared instructional leadership and overall teacher job satisfaction ( r = 0.580, p < 0.001). Within this perspective, shared instructional leadership is conceptualized as an organizational resource, while teacher job satisfaction represents a psychological indicator of teachers’ positive professional experiences. ( β = 0.580, p < 0.001), explaining 33.4% of the variance in teacher job satisfaction ( R 2 = 0.334). Significant positive relationships were also found between shared instructional leadership and several dimensions of job satisfaction, including management, achievement–respect–recognition, interpersonal relationships, and the nature of teaching work. The findings suggest that shared instructional leadership may contribute to socially sustainable schooling by strengthening teachers’ professional recognition, relational experiences, and psychological resources. Although social sustainability was not directly measured in this study, the findings highlight leadership practices and teacher satisfaction as important organizational and psychological conditions supporting sustainable educational environments. This study contributes to educational sustainability and leadership literature by emphasizing the human dimension of sustainable schools within the underrepresented context of Northern Cyprus.
This study investigated the level of teachers’ research writing skills to develop a capability training program targeted to enhance teachers’ writing skills. It specifically assessed teachers’ research writing skills in terms of formulation of research problem, data analysis and interpretation, research process, and recommendation and output. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative design of research, data were gathered from 219 teacher-respondents from three (3) public elementary schools in Taguig City. The findings of the study revealed that in terms of the demographic profile of the teacher-respondents, the majority of the teacher-respondents are Teacher I; have been in the service for 1-5 years; with units in Masters; and have attended trainings mostly relevant to writing a research title. In terms of assessment of teachers’ level of research writing skills, the teacher-respondents said that they are all capable in all indicators of research writing skills such as formulation of research problem, data analysis and interpretation, research process, and recommendation and output. In terms of challenges encountered in research writing, selecting the topic and making the title suitable for a specific research interest ranked first, while difficulty in determining the scale of a questionnaire ranked the 10th. Meanwhile, in terms of relationship between the profile of the respondents and their level of research writing skills, only teachers’ educational attainment is not significantly related to all of the four (4) components of teachers’ level of research writing skills. The study highlights the need for an intensive training on how to formulate research problems and find correlations and differences of research variables in the research problems; a separate training and learning session to capacitate teachers in crafting research instrument and the processes involved in making the research instrument reliable and valid; the need for the Division of Taguig City and Pateros to address the difficulty of the teachers in crafting research output by providing and sending teachers to trainings solely for crafting research output and its compositions; more trainings and seminars relevant to crafting research titles must be developed so that teachers will have knowledge on how to choose and craft research titles; the research capability training program prepared by the researcher may be tried and adapted by the Division of Taguig City and Pateros and the Department of Education (DepEd) in general to see its workability and effectiveness; and this study can be replicated and the future researchers may embark on a more comprehensive study utilizing more schools and respondents to negate or affirm the findings of the current study.

Purpose: This study examines the role of individual management educators in implementing Responsible Management Education (RME). It addresses a critical gap in the literature, which has disproportionately focused on institutional adoption and programme-level commitments rather than the agency, practices, and development of academics who translate these principles into reality. Methodology: Following PRISMA guidelines, this systematic literature review identified 42 peer-reviewed articles from Google Scholar (2000–2025). The data were analyzed using the inductive Gioia methodology to capture educators' actions and mapped against the UN’s seven Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Findings: The review synthesizes individual academic action into four interconnected, mutually reinforcing themes: curriculum revisions, enhanced external engagement, embodiment of pedagogical changes, and academic development in teaching, learning, and researching (TLR). Crucially, academic development serves as the foundational connective thread, empowering educators with the research capability, credibility, and peer support required to drive the other three dimensions. Implications: For academics, the study demonstrates that RME is enacted through everyday choices in classroom pedagogy and collaborative research. For business school leadership, it highlights that institutional change requires actively supporting educators through protected time, mentoring, and revised workload and promotion incentives that reward responsible scholarship. Originality: By shifting the unit of analysis from the institution to the individual academic, this paper addresses why top-level PRME commitments often decouple into symbolic rhetoric. It contributes to a dynamic conceptual framework that models the individual educator as the central change agent orchestrating curriculum revision, pedagogical innovation, external collaboration, and scholarship. Limitations and directions for future research: This review primarily draws literature from Google Scholar and provides an interpretive thematic synthesis. Future research should empirically validate the framework through surveys and interviews across diverse geographic and developing-economy contexts, while further exploring the under-researched PRME Practice principle. Keywords: Responsible Management Education; PRME; Business Academics; Business Schools; Higher Education
Background. Indonesian language instruction at the high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK), and Islamic high school (MAN) levels still tends to be focused on mastering course content, resulting in students' in-depth understanding not yet being optimal. Aims. This study aims to describe the implementation of the deep learning approach in Indonesian language instruction at high schools, vocational high schools, and Islamic high schools in Cirebon City, examining aspects of planning, implementation, language use, instructional structure, as well as challenges and their solutions. Methods. The study employed a qualitative approach using descriptive methods; data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Result. The results indicate that all three schools have applied the principles of meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning to varying degrees, with one school demonstrating the most optimal implementation due to consistency across all aspects of instruction. Challenges still faced include time constraints, variations in student abilities, and less-than-ideal classroom conditions, which teachers address through adaptive strategies such as the use of engaging learning media and adjustments to teaching methods. Conclusion. This study concludes that the successful implementation of deep learning depends not only on the planning and execution of instruction but also on strengthening teacher competencies and support from the learning environment.
The article analyses the emergence of competition between schools and the new demands it places on the work of school principals. Drawing on international and national sources, the concept of “competition management competence” is defined. Five components of this competence are substantiated: cognitive, analytical-strategic, marketing-communicative, innovative-organisational and reflective-ethical. Ways of developing this competence of principals within the in-service training system are proposed.
Schools are important social environments in which elementary school children develop relationships and construct meanings about themselves through everyday interactions. However, social interaction and children’s identity formation are often examined as separate aspects of development. This study aimed to analyze the forms and experiences of children’s social interaction in elementary school and to understand how these experiences contribute to children’s understanding of themselves and their social positions within school groups. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design at SDN 30 Kota Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving 12 elementary school students, five teachers, and three parents or guardians. Data were analyzed interactively through data condensation, coding, categorization, thematic presentation, and conclusion verification. The findings show that children’s social interactions occur actively through classroom learning, group work, and play activities, involving communication, cooperation, role-sharing, mutual assistance, participation, and adjustment. Experiences of acceptance, involvement, friendship, and rejection also provide children with social experiences that are interpreted in understanding themselves and their positions within peer groups. Viewed through Symbolic Interactionism, children’s identities develop dynamically through interaction and interpretation of social responses. Thus, elementary schools function not only as academic learning environments but also as social spaces for children’s identity formation.
Elementary school students' limited conceptual grasp of norms, rights, and obligations within Pancasila Education has prompted the search for more contextual, culturally grounded instructional strategies. This study examines the extent to which the Value Clarification Technique (VCT), enriched with values drawn from the Malay Tunjuk Ajar tradition, influences conceptual understanding among 33 sixth-grade students of Class VI B, Tahfidz Umar bin Khattab Islamic School, Pekanbaru. A pre-experimental one-group design with pre- and post-treatment measurement was applied, using a 20-item multiple-choice instrument. Data processing involved a Shapiro-Wilk normality test on the difference scores, N-Gain calculation to capture the magnitude of change, and a Paired Sample t-Test to examine mean differences. Findings revealed a mean score increase from 88.79 to 93.64, with t=2.889 at df=32 and a significance level of 0.007 (<0.05), leading to rejection of the null hypothesis. The extent of improvement is reflected in an average N-Gain of 0.443 (moderate category) and an effect size (Cohen's d) of 0.503. These results affirm that embedding Malay Tunjuk Ajar values within the VCT model meaningfully contributes to strengthening elementary students' conceptual understanding of norms, rights, and obligations.

Educational leadership is increasingly recognised as a critical determinant of the quality, relevance and sustainability of education systems. The rapid development of digital technologies, changing learner expectations, increasing demands for accountability, teacher shortages, resource constraints and the emergence of artificial intelligence have expanded the responsibilities of educational leaders beyond traditional administration. This paper discusses the changing educational leadership in the digital age. The paper posits that educational leaders should not merely introduce technology into schools but should create an institutional culture where technology supports teaching, learning, and professional development. The paper notes that digital transformation cannot succeed through technology acquisition alone. Inadequate infrastructure, electricity challenges, digital inequality, limited professional development, resistance to change, weak institutional support, and insufficient leadership preparation may constrain implementation. The paper therefore advocates a context-sensitive model of educational leadership that integrates vision, instructional leadership, digital competence, distributed leadership, ethical practice, teacher development and community engagement. It was suggested that systematic preparation and continuous professional development of educational leaders, investment in digital infrastructure, stronger leadership standards, participatory governance, digital citizenship education, and context-sensitive monitoring of school leadership is important in Nigerian schools. The paper concludes that Nigeria's educational transformation requires leaders who can combine human-centred leadership with technological competence to create schools that are innovative, inclusive, collaborative and focused on meaningful learning
Inclusive education practice in secondary schools faces a plethora of challenges such as inadequate assistive devices, restrictive school environments and poorly designed classrooms. Despite the identified challenges, little has done in terms of research on the extent to which these challenges influence inclusive education practice in Osun State. Therefore, this study examined the influence of technology and environmental support systems on inclusive education practice in public secondary schools in Osun State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design of the predictive correlational type; the population comprised 6,330 teachers from all the public secondary schools across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state. The study adopted multi-stage sampling procedure, simple random sampling technique by balloting (to select 15 from the 30 Local Government Areas), systematic sampling technique (to select 93 schools) and proportionate sampling technique (to select teachers from each Local Government Area) this ultimately yielded a sample of 950 teachers. Data was collected through structured questionnaire on Inclusive Education Practice and Support Systems (QIEPSS). The instrument was subjected to face and content validity and construct validity was established through exploratory factor analysis. The research questions were answered with mean and the hypothesis was tested with multiple linear regression. The findings showed that the level of inclusive education practice was low. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the government prioritises the provision of assistive devices and completely overhaul of school structures.
Lesotho has enacted the Lesotho Inclusive Education Policy (LIEP) to guide the conduct of inclusive education. However, the extent of the implementation of the policy on inclusive schooling in the rural communities of Lesotho is yet to be ascertained. Two research questions were raised and answered in this qualitative study. The study adopted the bioecological system theory as a theoretical lens. Data was collected using a discursive semi-structure interview from 21 participants who were the key stakeholders in inclusive education in rural schools `and communities in Lesotho. The participants were recruited using a purposive sampling procedure. The data gathered was analysed using the inductive-deductive thematic data analysis approach. Findings revealed five themes. Three themes addressed the current state of inclusive education practices: overcrowded classrooms, limited supplies and teaching capacity, and limited implementation of the LIEP. Two themes addressed stakeholder concerns: geographical challenges and limited government interventions. Based on the findings, the study advanced the need for the government of Lesotho to establish and adequately equip more inclusive schools so that stress on teachers and learners can reduced significantly.
Global Citizenship Education (GCE) faces a persistent challenge: preparing children to engage with an interconnected world without detaching them from the cultural knowledge, identities, and communities that shape their lives. Indigenous storytelling offers a culturally grounded means of connecting these local foundations with broader civic responsibilities, yet its underlying learning mechanisms and sensitivity to educational context remain insufficiently understood. This study investigated how Indigenous storytelling relates to global citizenship competencies and whether these relationships differ between urban and rural primary schools. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design involved 500 Grade 5–6 students from ten public primary schools (five urban and five rural). Quantitative relationships were examined using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), Measurement Invariance of Composite Models (MICOM), and Partial Least Squares Multi-Group Analysis (PLS-MGA). Semi-structured interviews and classroom observations with purposively selected students, teachers, and principals were subsequently analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis. Both strands were integrated using joint displays and meta-inference. All hypothesized structural relationships were significant ( p < 0.001), revealing interconnected pathways from cultural authenticity, narrative engagement, community participation, and reflective learning toward global awareness, cultural respect, social responsibility, civic participation, and sustainability awareness. Urban students showed stronger narrative engagement–reflective learning (β = 0.712 vs. 0.618, p = 0.036) and reflective learning–global awareness relationships (β = 0.514 vs. 0.432, p = 0.028). Qualitative evidence explained these differences: rural schools embedded storytelling in community participation and cultural immersion, whereas urban schools relied more on teacher facilitation, collaborative reflection, and technology-supported storytelling. Indigenous storytelling connects cultural rootedness with global responsibility through context-sensitive learning pathways. Rather than positioning local identity and global citizenship as competing educational aims, the findings demonstrate how culturally grounded pedagogy can support reflective, socially responsible, and sustainability-oriented citizenship while requiring different enactment strategies across urban and rural primary education.

Abstract The Baka people, an indigenous forest community in Cameroon's East Region, hold a distinct body of social practices, ecological knowledge, and cultural values shaped by their historical relationship with the forest environment. This study examines the influence of social practices of the Baka people on the implementation of the geography curriculum in schools within the East Region of Cameroon. The study adopted a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The target population comprised of Geography teachers and students especially Baka students enrolled in secondary schools in selected Baka community of the East region in the study area. Two instruments were used to collect data which were questionnaires and interview guides. Quantitative data obtained from the questionnaires were coded and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics included frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. These statistics were used to describe the prevalence of particular Baka social practices and participants' perceptions of their influence on Geography curriculum implementation. Inferential analysis was used to examine relationships between selected dimensions of Baka social practices and indicators of curriculum implementation. The findings indicate that Baka social practices have significant implications for curriculum implementation, although their influence should not be understood exclusively in negative terms. Baka livelihood practices, language, cultural values, traditional learning processes and Indigenous environmental knowledge interact with formal schooling in complex ways. Some practices may contribute to irregular attendance or difficulties in adapting to conventional classroom routines, while others provide valuable knowledge and experiences that can enrich Geography education. The study contributes to broader debates on curriculum relevance, indigenous knowledge integration, and educational equity for marginalized populations in Cameroon, and offers recommendations for curriculum policy and teacher training that better reflect the sociocultural realities of indigenous learners. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that Geography teachers should incorporate local examples into classroom instruction. Lessons on ecosystems, natural resources, agriculture, environmental conservation, settlement and human–environment relationships should make use of geographical features and activities familiar to Baka learners. Teacher-training institutions should strengthen preparation in culturally responsive pedagogy. Curriculum developers should provide greater flexibility for the inclusion of Indigenous and local knowledge. schools should make greater use of experiential learning. Keywords Baka people, social practices, curriculum implementation, geography education, indigenous knowledge, East Region Cameroon

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Deep Learning based on Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) in creating meaningful learning in elementary schools. The diversity of students’ abilities requires teachers to provide learning experiences that are appropriate to students’ initial competencies, needs, and characteristics. TaRL focuses on identifying students’ actual learning levels through diagnostic assessment, flexible grouping, and appropriate learning interventions, while Deep Learning emphasizes three main principles: mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning. This study uses a literature review method to examine various previous studies on the implementation of Deep Learning based on Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) in fostering meaningful learning in elementary schools. The findings indicate that the integration of TaRL and Deep Learning can support differentiated learning by aligning learning materials, activities, media, and assistance with students’ ability levels. Previous studies also report improvements in learning outcomes, student engagement, motivation, conceptual understanding, and participation. However, its implementation faces several challenges, including the accuracy of diagnostic assessments, limited instructional time, large class sizes, teacher readiness, preparation of differentiated learning resources, and students’ and parents’ acceptance of ability-based grouping. Therefore, the integration of Deep Learning and TaRL has the potential to create adaptive, active, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences in elementary schools through continuous assessment, flexible grouping, appropriate learning strategies, and strong teacher and school support.
(Teaching at the Right Level یا TaRL) در ایجاد یادگیری معنادار در مدارس ابتدایی است.
The transformation of 21st-century education demands the strengthening of higher-order thinking skills, known as the 4Cs (critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration), along with the need for technology integration in the learning and assessment process. In the context of Sekolah Penggerak (Moving Schools), Indonesian language teachers have a strategic role in designing assessments that are oriented not only toward cognitive achievement but also toward developing students' competencies and character. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) approach in assessing 4C skills, formulate an effective TPACK-based 4C skills assessment model, and construct an applicable assessment concept for Indonesian language teachers at Sekolah Penggerak (Moving Schools) in Bali Province. This study used a mixed methods approach with an exploratory design. Qualitative data were obtained through observation, document study, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs), while quantitative data were collected through questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. The study subjects included Indonesian language teachers, school principals, and educational stakeholders at Sekolah Penggerak (Moving Schools) in Bali Province. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis, while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research results show that Indonesian language teachers have positive perceptions of the implementation of the TPACK-based 4C skills assessment. The integration of technology into the assessment is considered capable of increasing student engagement, encouraging reflection on learning, and strengthening student-centered learning. The developed assessment model emphasizes the integration of learning objectives, pedagogical strategies, Indonesian language content, and the contextual use of digital technology. The resulting assessment concept is flexible, adaptive, and relevant to the characteristics of the Driving Schools and the implementation of the Independent Curriculum.

This phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of school heads leading Indigenous Peoples (IP) Community Schools in San Agustin and Lianga Districts, Division of Surigao del Sur, during School Year 2025–2026. Seven school heads were purposively selected and interviewed using a semi-structured guide, with data analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings showed that their experiences were shaped by cultural immersion and adaptive leadership, community trust and shared leadership, remote and resource-limited conditions, and fulfillment from learner and community transformation. To address challenges, school heads relied on resourcefulness, stakeholder partnerships, consultation with Indigenous leaders, flexible and participatory governance, and continuous professional learning. The participants also emphasized the need for community-centered governance, culturally responsive and inclusive instructional leadership, sustained Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) training and mentoring, adequate resources, and stronger inter-agency support. The study concludes that effective leadership in IP Community Schools is adaptive, relational, culturally responsive, and grounded in sustained collaboration with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
This qualitative descriptive case study examined the financial management experiences, challenges, and proposed solutions of school heads in Claveria North District, Masbate, and used the findings as basis for a Financial Management Capacity Enhancement Program. Ten public school heads with at least five years of leadership experience were purposively selected from principals, head teachers, and teachers-in-charge. Data were gathered through semi-structured one-on-one interviews and review of pertinent school financial documents, then analyzed thematically. Findings showed that school heads managed persistent resource inadequacy, delayed fund releases, unexpected expenditures, geographic and logistical constraints, limited formal financial management training, procurement bottlenecks, and demanding documentation and liquidation requirements. Despite these conditions, they developed competence through prioritization, strategic budget allocation, community fundraising, income-generating activities, adaptive procurement practices, peer learning, and close stakeholder coordination; some also relied on personal funds when official resources were delayed. The study concludes that the resourcefulness of rural school heads cannot substitute for institutionalized support. Context-responsive financial training, clearer and more adaptive procedures, timely releases, stronger supplier and stakeholder networks, and standardized accounting and liquidation support are therefore necessary. These findings informed a capacity enhancement program intended to strengthen transparency, accountability, compliance, and efficient financial governance in geographically isolated rural schools.
This study investigated the direct and parent-mediated relationships of school-based management, capacity-strengthening programs, and teacher work ethic with school output quality. A quantitative causal survey was conducted from October to December 2025 among 245 teachers randomly selected from a population of 627 teachers in public elementary schools in North Aceh Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires operationalizing the five constructs and analyzed through descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, regression, and path analysis. All variables were predominantly at moderate levels: school-based management (M = 81.13), capacity strengthening (M = 81.06), teacher work ethic (M = 79.30), parental involvement (M = 80.15), and school output quality (M = 81.20). Based on the decision statistics reported in the original analysis, all nine hypothesized direct, indirect, and simultaneous paths were accepted. The complete model accounted for 9.7% of the variance in school output quality, while parental involvement had the largest coefficient in the simultaneous equation (0.13), exceeding capacity strengthening (0.07), school-based management (0.04), and teacher work ethic (0.04). These results indicate that organizational autonomy and teacher-related resources are more consequential when translated into sustained school-family engagement. The findings imply that district improvement strategies should institutionalize participatory governance, job-embedded professional learning, supportive work cultures, and structured parental partnerships while also addressing the substantial unexplained variance through broader instructional, leadership, and socioeconomic factors.
Leadership plays a decisive role in the implementation of inclusive education at the school level. In this paper, we report on a small-scale, qualitative study which explored how the beliefs and actions of leadership teams at two mainstream schools in the Maldives influenced their efforts to provide a shared vision for inclusion and a positive culture across their school community. School selection was based on purposive sampling, with both schools being recognised for their good inclusive practice. Semi-structured interviews with the six leaders (the principal, deputy principal, and the leading teacher at each school) were used to capture personal beliefs, shared understandings and daily actions that promoted inclusion at the respective schools. Data analysis revealed two major themes: Access for learning and Building collaboration and partnerships through supportive leadership. While a sense of duty, strong desire and personal drive were common threads running across individual perspectives and themes, leaders signalled that a lack of resourcing (human and material) was a major obstacle to the successful implementation of inclusive education in their country.
