The educational inclusion of students with Down syndrome requires support systems capable of addressing diversity without replacing the student's own participation or shifting the pedagogical responsibility away from the classroom teacher. This study aimed to interpret the experiences of shadow teachers in providing inclusive educational support to students with Down syndrome in General Basic Education, within the framework of the university outreach project "El nuevo desafío de la inclusión universitaria: estrategias de refuerzo académico para jóvenes con diversidad funcional (discapacidad)". The research employed a qualitative approach, grounded in an interpretive paradigm and a hermeneutic-phenomenological design. Three shadow teachers (MSA1, MSW2, and MSB3) participated, selected through purposive, criterion-based non-probability sampling. Data were collected through individual, asynchronous semi-structured interviews via WhatsApp and analyzed using initial and analytical coding, alongside interpretive memos. Thematic sufficiency was assessed across the entire dataset. The participants' experiences were then compared and triangulated with the theoretical framework. The analysis yielded eight thematic axes: the value of the experience; the reality of educational inclusion; methodology and strategies; the role of the shadow teacher; challenges in providing support; support and collaboration networks; vocation and motivation; and proposals for improvement. The experiences analyzed suggest that this support functions as a mediating pedagogical practice that fosters student autonomy, the adaptation of strategies, and collaboration between families and teachers, though challenges persist regarding resources, teacher training, school pacing, and time constraints.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting a curriculum based on citizenship legal literacy education in order to improve the quality of civic education in Iran’s educational system. Methods and Materials: This applied and developmental study was conducted using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design. In the qualitative phase, the statistical population included experts in education, curriculum planning, social sciences, and citizenship rights. Participants were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through 15 semi-structured interviews, which continued until theoretical saturation was achieved. The qualitative data were analyzed using MaxQDA software through open, axial, and selective coding. The extracted themes were then organized to develop a conceptual structure for a curriculum based on citizenship legal literacy education. Findings: The inferential findings supported a multidimensional structure for citizenship legal literacy education. The analysis indicated that five key components formed the core of the proposed curriculum model: citizenship rights education, values and beliefs, practical empowerment, development of social interaction, and media and digital literacy education. These components represented interrelated knowledge-based, attitudinal, behavioral, and social indicators. The findings showed that emphasis on citizens’ rights and responsibilities, justice-oriented attitudes, dialogue skills, social participation, legal awareness, responsible media use, and digital literacy plays a decisive role in designing an effective curriculum for educating law-abiding and participatory citizens. Conclusion: The results suggest that citizenship legal literacy education in Iran requires a shift from the mere transmission of theoretical concepts toward a competency-based, participatory, and practice-oriented curriculum. Such a curriculum can contribute to strengthening civic awareness, promoting legal responsibility, enhancing social participation, supporting educational justice, and preparing students for active and responsible citizenship in contemporary society.

Insecurity has become a significant threat to the effective delivery of basic education in Nigeria, particularly in communities affected by banditry, kidnapping, armed attacks, and communal violence. This study examined the influence of insecurity on teaching-learning outcomes in Universal Basic Education primary schools in Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Specifically, it investigated the effects of insecurity on pupils’ academic performance and school attendance and identified strategies for reducing its adverse effects. The study adopted a qualitative documentary research design and relied on secondary data obtained from government publications, policy documents, institutional reports, international organisations, and peer-reviewed journal articles. The selected documents were analysed using qualitative content analysis and organised according to the study’s major themes. The findings revealed that insecurity negatively affects pupils’ academic performance by reducing instructional time, disrupting curriculum coverage, weakening concentration, and creating fear within the learning environment. It also reduces school attendance as parents may prevent their children from attending school because of kidnapping, attacks, unsafe travel routes, and instability within surrounding communities. Consequently, insecurity undermines the implementation of Universal Basic Education by limiting regular participation and disrupting stable teaching and learning conditions. The study concludes that ensuring school safety is essential for achieving the objectives of free and compulsory basic education. It recommends strengthening school security, implementing the Minimum Standards for Safe Schools, improving community participation, providing psychosocial support, protecting routes to school, establishing emergency response systems, and adopting flexible learning arrangements during periods of disruption.
This study aims to analyze the learning problems experienced by Grade VIII students at UPTD SMPN 16 Kupang based on students’ experiences and teachers’ perspectives. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, using interviews with 16 informants consisting of one homeroom teacher, three subject teachers, and 12 Grade VIII students. The data were analyzed thematically by grouping responses into recurring patterns relevant to the research focus. The findings derived from the available informant accounts revealed several issues, namely students’ limited openness in communicating their difficulties, inconsistent classroom participation, procrastination in completing assignments, and family responsibilities that reduce the time and energy available for learning. Some students reported being distracted by recreational activities, while others experienced fatigue after helping their parents at home. These findings indicate that learning problems need to be understood by considering academic factors, study habits, communication, and family context. Guidance and counseling services can support the identification of students’ needs and the development of effective learning strategies and time management skills.
This study addresses the critical deficiency in speaking skills among university students, a challenge primarily attributed to the reliance on traditional teaching methods and the limited time allocated for authentic verbal practice within the classroom. The research aims to construct a comprehensive theoretical framework for the Flipped Classroom strategy and identify the pedagogical and linguistic justifications for its implementation in developing speaking skills, while providing practical procedural recommendations for its integration into higher education. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach through a critical review of educational literature, the findings reveal that the flipped model significantly enhances students' fluency, linguistic accuracy, and capacity for spontaneous expression. Furthermore, the model fosters increased motivation and active participation by granting learners the autonomy to progress at their own pace, as pre-class preparation helps mitigate "language anxiety" and bolsters confidence during real-time communicative interactions. Despite these advantages, the research identifies several implementation challenges, most notably the digital divide, potential cognitive overload, and the necessity for intensive faculty training in digital instructional design. Ultimately, the study concludes that the Flipped Classroom represents a fundamental philosophical shift that redefines educational roles, transforming class time from passive instruction into a dynamic "living linguistic laboratory" focused on intensive communicative practice.
This study was motivated by science and social studies (IPAS) learning that remained relatively teacher-centered, with limited student participation and suboptimal conceptual understanding of the Changing Earth topic. The study aimed to analyze the implementation of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) model, identify the challenges encountered, and describe the teacher’s efforts to address those challenges in Grade V at SD Negeri 078011 Tetehosi. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The participants consisted of one Grade V teacher as the key informant and six students as supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model through data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Data trustworthiness was established through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that IBL was implemented through six stages: orientation, problem formulation, hypothesis formulation, data collection, hypothesis testing, and conclusion drawing. The learning activities encouraged students to observe, ask questions, discuss, investigate, compare evidence with initial assumptions, and present conclusions. The main challenges included low confidence, differences in learning abilities, communication barriers, limited learning media, and limited instructional time. The teacher addressed these challenges by using audio-visual media and simple simulations, heterogeneous grouping, individual support, motivation, positive reinforcement, and a safe learning environment. Overall, IBL provided a more active and meaningful learning experience, although its implementation still required adaptive instructional support.
This study examined the perceived impact of active learning as a teaching strategy among 20 overseas Filipino teachers working in schools across the United Arab Emirates. Guided by the five Whole Child tenets and an Input-Process-Output framework, the study explored teachers’ experiences with active learning, their views on its classroom application, and its perceived contribution to student learning. A quantitative research design was employed using an adapted questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. Responses were analyzed through frequency counts and mean scores to describe participants’ perceptions and reported practices. Findings indicated that most respondents regularly incorporated active learning strategies into their teaching and expressed favorable attitudes toward their implementation. Teachers perceived these approaches as encouraging student participation, strengthening the integration of learning, promoting classroom engagement, and supporting improvements in instructional practice. However, respondents also identified practical challenges that constrained implementation, including limited training and experience with active learning methodologies, inadequate funding for instructional materials, and classroom seating arrangements that were not conducive to interactive activities. The findings underscore the importance of institutional support in helping teachers translate favorable perceptions into effective classroom practices. The study recommends targeted professional development to strengthen teachers’ competence in active learning, revisions to departmental plans to facilitate the integration of these strategies, and improved consideration of classroom resources and learning environments. Further investigation from students’ perspectives is recommended to provide additional insight into how active learning is experienced and how it may contribute to learning outcomes in international school settings across the United Arab Emirates.
The integration of technology into elementary education has enabled teachers to design more engaging and interactive learning media. This study developed Canva-assisted interactive animated video media for teaching the water cycle in elementary integrated science and evaluated its validity and practicality. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed, utilizing the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection involved expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and teacher response questionnaires. The media was assessed by two media experts and three subject-matter experts. Results showed that the interactive animated video media achieved validity scores of 95% from media experts and 94% from subject-matter experts, both categorized as very valid. During implementation, 30 fifth-grade students and one classroom teacher participated. Practicality evaluation indicated positive responses, with student and teacher response scores of 87% and 97%, respectively, both classified as very practical. These findings indicate that the developed media is user-friendly for both teachers and students, enhances students’ attention, enthusiasm, and active participation in classroom learning, and supports visualization of the abstract concept of the water cycle. Thus, Canva-assisted interactive animated video media constitutes a valid and practical learning resource for elementary integrated science instruction.
Inclusive education requires instructional strategies that respond to differences in students’ abilities and learning needs, particularly those of slow learners in junior secondary schools. This study aimed to describe teachers’ inclusive strategies for accommodating the learning needs of students in Class VII A at SMP Negeri 2 Teluk Pandan, Kutai Timur Regency, Indonesia. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed from September to December 2025. The participants comprised one homeroom teacher and two students with learning difficulties, identified as H and AR. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was examined through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed four forms of accommodation: repeated explanations and simplified instructions, adjustments to assignments and assessments according to students’ abilities, additional time for task completion, and seating arrangements combined with positive feedback. The teacher also provided individual assistance to help students understand learning materials and complete assignments. However, small-group and heterogeneous-group activities were not implemented consistently. These findings highlight the importance of flexible accommodations, progress monitoring, and varied instructional strategies to support student participation in inclusive learning environments. The use of the cooperative learning model of Teams Games Tournament (TGT) supported by Baamboozle media has the potential to increase student engagement through discussion, collaboration, and game-based activities. This study examines the effectiveness of the TGT model supported by Baamboozle media in improving students' learning outcomes in the topic of Work and Energy at SMA Negeri 2 Tondano. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 30 students divided into an experimental class and a control class, with 15 students in each class. The descriptive analysis showed that the average score in the experimental class increased from 30.6 to 78.93, while the average score in the control class increased from 26.46 to 69.46. The average N-Gain score was 0.6991 in the experimental class and 0.5949 in the control class. Both classes were in the moderate category, but the improvement in learning outcomes was greater in the experimental class than in the control class. These findings indicate that the TGT model supported by Baamboozle media can be an alternative teaching strategy for improving student learning outcomes. The implication of this study is that the TGT model supported by Baamboozle media can be considered for use in physics learning to create an interactive and collaborative learning environment that encourages active student participation
Although Kurikulum Merdeka promotes flexible, student-centered learning, the implementation of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) instruction in elementary schools continues to face various challenges. This study aimed to describe the challenges in implementing IPAS instruction under Kurikulum Merdeka in Grade V at SD Negeri 005 Desa Baru, Kampar Regency. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving two fifth-grade teachers and six purposively selected students. Three students had IPAS scores above 75, and three had scores below 75. Data were collected through nonparticipant observation, structured interviews, and documentation and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data trustworthiness was assessed through triangulation of sources and data collection techniques. The findings identified three domains of challenges related to students, teachers, and learning assessment. Student-related challenges were the most prominent, including differences in understanding, declining attention after approximately 15–20 minutes of lecturing, interest that depended on the type of activity, uneven participation, dependence on external motivation, inconsistent task management, and varying levels of learning readiness. Teacher-related challenges included the breadth of integrated science and social studies content and classroom management during group activities. Assessment involved oral quizzes and student worksheets, supplemented by remedial instruction and enrichment. Achievement scores ranged from 60 to 96, with a mastery threshold of 75. These findings underscore the need for differentiated instruction, concrete and contextually relevant instructional media, clearly assigned group roles, time management, and the use of assessment results to improve instruction. This study provides a contextual account of challenges in IPAS instruction and the need to adapt fifth-grade teaching practices. Its restriction to one school and a focused observation period highlights the need for further research covering more lessons and IPAS topics.
Foundational literacy is central to participation and subsequent learning, yet the instructional routes through which beginning readers encounter print are not equally accessible to all learners. In Tanzania, renewed attention to systematic phonics and early-grade reading has increased the relevance of decodable texts: texts designed to give learners opportunities to apply previously taught grapheme–phoneme correspondences. Their instructional value, however, cannot be assessed only in terms of the linguistic structure of the text. Classroom activities, teacher directions, response requirements, assessment procedures, and available formats can either widen or restrict access. This scoping review maps literature and policy- and curriculum-related evidence concerning decodable or phonics-oriented early reading in Tanzanian primary education and examines the extent to which the evidence engages with accessibility, learner variability, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The review follows PRISMA-ScR and considers literature published between 2014 and 2026. The synthesis indicates a plausible pedagogical alignment between controlled text and the development of decoding, while also revealing a major gap in directly tested evidence on inclusive adaptations of decodable materials in Tanzania. Across the mapped literature, accessibility is more often treated as an implementation concern than as a design principle embedded in reading materials from the outset. The review therefore advances the concept of inclusive decodable-text pedagogy, in which systematic phonics is retained while unnecessary sensory, motor, speech, and communication barriers are reduced through multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement. Implications are developed for curriculum design, teacher education, classroom practice, formative assessment, and future research. The central conclusion is that decodability and accessibility should be treated as complementary properties: a text may be linguistically decodable yet still be instructionally inaccessible if participation depends on a single route that is unrelated to the intended literacy skill.
This study investigated the implementation of a gamified English for Specific Purposes (ESP) speaking instructional framework using spinning wheel media among nursing students. A qualitative case study approach was conducted involving 25 nursing students at STIKES Bina Usada Bali. Data were gathered over five instructional sessions through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, followed by thematic analysis. The analysis revealed five themes: students’ engagement, speaking anxiety, speaking confidence, the relevance of nursing-based communication tasks, and classroom participation. The findings suggested that students perceived the randomized speaking prompts as engaging and considered nursing-related scenarios relevant to their prospective professional communication needs. Some participants further described feeling more comfortable and confident through repeated opportunities to practice speaking. Drawing on the classroom implementation, the study identified six related instructional components: context-based nursing tasks, randomized prompts, individual speaking performance, peer interaction, constructive feedback, and repeated practice. This study offers practical insights into the integration of gamification in ESP speaking instruction for nursing students. Nevertheless, the findings represent students’ experiences and perceptions; they do not demonstrate a causal improvement in speaking proficiency or establish the formal validity of the framework. Future research should investigate the framework in diverse educational contexts and explore its association with objectively assessed speaking outcomes.
This study examined the relationship between innovative and inclusive teaching practices and student motivation and academic performance among Grade 5 and Grade 6 pupils in selected public elementary schools in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines, during the School Year 2025–2026. Specifically, it determined the level of innovative teaching practices in terms of teaching strategies, use of instructional materials and technology, and student engagement activities; assessed inclusive teaching practices in terms of respect for learner diversity, equal participation, and support for diverse learning needs; identified the level of student motivation; and examined the relationships between these variables and academic performance. A descriptive-correlational research design using a quantitative approach was employed. Data were gathered from 97 Grade 5 and Grade 6 pupils through a validated researcher-made questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.892, indicating strong internal consistency. Descriptive statistics and correlational analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that School administrators should provide sustained professional development to strengthen teachers’ innovative and inclusive instructional approaches and allocate resources to enhance access to technology and learning materials. Teachers should consistently apply differentiated, student-centered strategies and foster welcoming, diversity-affirming classrooms to boost student motivation and equitable achievement further further. Parents and guardians should reinforce school learning at home by encouraging curiosity, effort, and consistent study habits, and maintaining open communication with teachers. Future researchers should conduct experimental or longitudinal studies to examine cause-and-effect relationships and explore additional factors influencing academic performance beyond those investigated in this study. Innovative teaching practices, inclusive teaching practices, and student motivation were rated at a high level, which means teachers effectively practice inclusive teaching by recognizing learner diversity, promoting equal participation, and providing support to students with different learning needs; teachers also frequently use innovative teaching practices, apply engaging teaching strategies, integrate instructional materials and technology, and promote active student engagement in classroom learning activities. Furthermore, significant positive relationships were found between innovative teaching practices and academic performance, inclusive teaching practices and academic performance, and student motivation and academic performance, with a moderate correlation coefficient (r = 0.57). Overall, the findings indicate that these educational variables are positively associated with academic performance among the respondents.
Speaking is an essential skill in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. However, many EFL students experience difficulties in developing speaking proficiency due to limited opportunities for oral practice, speaking anxiety, low confidence, and insufficient interaction. Although previous studies have examined Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL) in English language education, their findings are distributed across different platforms, learning contexts, and outcomes. Therefore, a systematic review is needed to provide a broader understanding of how DGBL contributes to EFL speaking development and how different platforms support this process. This study aims to examine the effects of DGBL on EFL students' speaking skills and identify the digital platforms used in speaking instruction. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted by analyzing 20 selected studies through a systematic selection process based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that DGBL can support speaking development by providing opportunities for oral practice, increasing motivation and participation, strengthening confidence, and reducing speaking anxiety. The review also identifies Kahoot!, Quizizz, Wordwall, Duolingo, mobile game-based applications, and other digital game environments as platforms used in EFL learning.
Introduction: Ecuadorian higher education has experienced different dynamics in scientific production, presenting a significant challenge regarding the integration and participation of university students. Background: Father involvement is an important aspect of the caregiving environment that is associated with children’s social-emotional development. Such involvement includes interaction, support, attention, and participation in children’s activities. This study aimed to analyze the association between nine dimensions of father involvement and emotional and behavioral difficulties among children aged 5-9 years. Methods: This study used a quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design. Participants were 130 mothers who had children aged 5-9 years in Jonggol Village. Father involvement was measured using the Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI), consisting of nine dimensions, while children’s emotional and behavioral difficulties were assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) through the Total Difficulties score. Associations were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of 5%. Results: Three of the nine IFI dimensions showed significant negative associations with SDQ Total Difficulties: Time and Talking (rs = −0.181; p = 0.040), Reading and Homework (rs = −0.227; p = 0.009), and Attention (rs = −0.178; p = 0.043). The other six dimensions were not significantly associated with SDQ Total Difficulties (p > 0.05). Findings are exploratory (p-values unadjusted). Conclusion: Specific aspects of father involvement, particularly time and communication, participation in reading and homework, and attention, were associated with lower emotional and behavioral difficulties among children. These findings highlight the importance of examining father involvement not only as an overall construct but also according to its specific dimensions
Abstract Faculty development (FD) and the preparation of future faculty are central to university teaching quality, yet in Japan they are studied separately and remain underexamined in English. Pre-faculty development (pre-FD), a term coined within Japanese higher education, exclusively denotes the pre-service teaching preparation of doctoral students and other prospective academics, broadly corresponding to the American “Preparing Future Faculty” movement. Treating the two as tracks of a single academic-development continuum, this article asks how each has been institutionalized and localized in Japan, and what constrains the translation of policy into teaching improvement. The study is a narrative, document-based conceptual review of policy documents, statutory standards, national surveys, and Japanese- and English-language scholarship, using the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as an analytical lens. Three findings emerge. First, both tracks advanced through top-down policy-driven and policy-induced reform: In-service FD became a legal mandate in 2008, whereas pre-FD remains a best-effort obligation. Second, in-service FD has developed a distinctive cluster of locally grounded practices: inter-university networks, mutual FD, the collegial model, and student-engaged FD. Third, national survey data show participation rising while collegial formats and dedicated provision declined over the same period, indicating that participation rates are a poor proxy for teaching-development quality. Reading the tracks together reveals what single-track accounts obscure: shared organizational carriers and a common ceiling set by the absence of a continuing professional role in academic development. The article argues, as a proposition derived from the analysis, that sustainable development depends on connecting the two tracks into a continuous career pathway framed by SoTL.
The rapid integration of digital technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment has created new avenues through which technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) may occur in school settings. Existing scholarship has examined TFGBV mainly through the lenses of cyberbullying, digital safety, and student well-being. At the same time, emerging work has also begun to conceptualise digital assessment systems as sites of structural and institutional gendered risk. Building on this systems-level perspective, this conceptual paper shifts attention to the pedagogical and interactional layer of digital assessment, examining how teachers' assessment design and oversight decisions may shape the conditions under which TFGBV becomes more or less likely. Developed through a critical interdisciplinary literature review, the paper draws on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, digital citizenship frameworks, and classroom assessment scholarship to examine how learning management systems, peer assessment tools, collaborative online assignments, and social media-integrated assessment activities may create conditions conducive to gendered harassment, image-based abuse, and exclusionary behaviour among learners of all genders. The paper proposes the Assessment-Mediated Digital Ethics (AMDE) framework, a theoretically grounded but not yet empirically validated model integrating gender-responsive assessment design, embedded digital behavioural expectations, and structured teacher oversight. AMDE is presented as a complementary pedagogical extension of existing justice-oriented approaches to digital assessment and TFGBV, rather than as a claim of first conceptualisation. The framework provides a basis for future empirical research examining teacher-mediated assessment practices and their relationship to digital safety, ethical participation, and TFGBV risk across diverse educational contexts. Responsibility for TFGBV prevention is understood as shared among teachers, learners, schools, families, technology providers, and policymakers.
Inclusive education is one of the main challenges facing contemporary educational systems. This article analyzes inclusive education as an educational paradigm shift, and examines the relationship between diversity, educational inclusion, and the right to education. Drawing on different theoretical perspectives, it explores how traditional educational and pedagogical practices have historically sustained mechanisms of normalization and exclusion within schools. It also discusses the transition from the integration paradigm to inclusive education, understood as a transformation of institutional cultures, policies, and practices, aimed at ensuring the full exercise of the right to education. Finally, it argues that building inclusive schools requires profound cultural, political, and pedagogical transformations, that promote participation, learning, and the recognition of diversity as a constitutive principle of democratic education.
The present study explores police cadets’ perceptions of the Psychology course within their training context. The sample consisted of 111 first-year cadets who completed a structured questionnaire including subscales measuring attitudes toward the course, perceived professional usefulness, contribution to personal development, content evaluation, level of understanding, and comparative evaluation with other courses. The findings indicate a moderate to positive overall attitude, with particularly strong recognition of the course’s professional relevance. However, lower levels of intrinsic motivation and perceived contribution to personal development were observed. The course content was evaluated as contemporary, relevant, and appropriately demanding, although it did not strongly engage students’ interest. A key finding of the study is the clear preference for more interactive and experiential teaching methods, which appear crucial for enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. Overall, while the Psychology course is acknowledged as an essential component of police education, the results highlight the need for a pedagogical redesign focusing on applied learning and active participation.
This study was motivated by the need to develop learning approaches that encourage active student engagement in understanding pre-production materials in the Fundamentals of Film Studies subject at vocational high schools. Conventional instruction needs to be examined in comparison with learning models that provide students with opportunities to study materials independently before participating in classroom activities. This study aimed to determine the difference in learning outcomes between students taught using the Flipped Classroom model and those taught through conventional instruction in Grade X of the Film Production program at SMK Negeri 1 Ngasem. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design was employed. The participants consisted of 68 students, comprising 35 students from class X PF 2 as the experimental group and 33 students from class X PF 3 as the control group. Data were collected through pretests and posttests. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The Mann–Whitney U test yielded a significance value of p < 0.001, with a mean rank of 50.29 for the experimental group and 17.76 for the control group. These findings indicate a statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups, with the experimental group demonstrating a higher mean rank than the control group. Therefore, the Flipped Classroom model has the potential to serve as an alternative instructional approach to support students’ learning outcomes in film pre-production. Nevertheless, these findings should be interpreted in consideration of the quasi-experimental design and the possibility of differences in students’ initial abilities between the groups.
This study investigates the internalization of moral education values through traditional games in an Islamic early childhood education institution, focusing on the implementation of play-based activities, teacher facilitation, and children's emerging moral behaviors. Adopting a qualitative field research approach, the study was conducted at RA Athfalul Huda GUPPI, Qurnia Village, Mataram, Indonesia. Research participants were purposively selected and included the school principal, teachers, and children involved in traditional game-based learning. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data credibility was supported through source and methodological triangulation and sustained observation. The findings identify four traditional games Cublak-Cublak Suweng, Gobak Sodor, Petak Umpet, and Dakon—as learning activities that provide opportunities for children to experience and practice moral values through shared rules, peer interactions, turn-taking, and collaborative participation. Teacher facilitation, particularly through behavioural modelling, rule reinforcement, guidance, and post-activity reflection, emerged as an important component of the moral learning process. The values addressed through these activities included honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, patience, cooperation, sportsmanship, tolerance, humility, and social awareness. Furthermore, parent-reported observations indicated that some positive behavioral practices were also reflected in children's interactions at home. These findings highlight the pedagogical potential of culturally embedded traditional games as a context for experiential moral education. The study contributes a contextually grounded understanding of how traditional play and teacher mediation can support the development of moral awareness and emerging behavioral practices in Islamic early childhood education.
This article examines ethics education in schools in the light of three converging processes: the expansion of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), human rights education, and the growing importance of digital environments in everyday life. It argues that Ethics Education goes beyond the transmission of values and involves issues of justice, participation, care, and recognition. Drawing on recent literature, the article analyzes both the contributions and tensions surrounding CSE as well as the challenges posed by digital citizenship. It concludes that schools currently require a broader political-pedagogical horizon to address these issues in an integrated manner.
This study examined teachers' readiness, attitudes, challenges, lived experiences, and assessed effectiveness of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program in the Division of Bohol during School Year 2026–2027 as a basis for a comprehensive action plan. Anchored in program implementation, reading readiness, constructivist, and sociocultural learning perspectives, the study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method design involving 277 Grade 7 ARAL teachers from 129 public secondary schools. Data were collected using a validated researcher-developed questionnaire and semi-structured interviews and analyzed through descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and thematic analysis. Findings revealed high teacher readiness (M = 3.16), highly favorable attitudes (M = 3.22), highly encountered challenges (M = 2.88), and highly assessed program effectiveness (M = 3.08). Regression analysis showed that readiness, attitudes, and challenges significantly predicted assessed effectiveness (R² = 0.643, p < .001), explaining 64.3% of its variance, with attitudes emerging as the strongest predictor. Teachers reported challenges involving limited instructional time, inadequate resources, additional workloads, irregular learner attendance, and insufficient parental support. Qualitative findings highlighted differentiated instruction, diagnostic assessment, collaboration, and adaptive teaching practices as coping mechanisms. The study concluded that teacher preparedness, positive attitudes, and effective challenge management were essential to ARAL implementation. It recommended continuous professional development, adequate resources, flexible scheduling, stronger stakeholder collaboration, and regular monitoring. The study supported Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting equitable learning recovery and collaborative educational interventions. Its sustainability contribution emphasized institutional capacity building, educational continuity, and strengthened stakeholder participation for long-term program implementation.
The study aimed to analyze the impact of implementing instructional sequences on strengthening the teaching of Spanish Language and Social Sciences at the primary level in Regional 02, San Juan, Dominican Republic. A quantitative approach was adopted, using a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive design. The participants comprised 498 individuals, including 463 teachers and 35 district-level educational specialists. Structured questionnaires were administered, and the data were analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results revealed a favorable assessment of the implementation of instructional sequences, particularly regarding the progressive organization of activities, activation of prior knowledge, student participation, oral and written production, and learning monitoring. Teachers also perceived improvements in lesson planning, organization, and assessment practices. However, district-level specialists identified areas requiring further consolidation, particularly the alignment between planning and classroom practice, the correspondence between activities and learning evidence, the use of educational resources, and pedagogical support. Challenges related to available instructional time and the need to make adaptations during implementation were also identified. It is concluded that instructional sequences have a favorable impact on strengthening teaching, although their consolidation requires systematic monitoring, teacher training, and contextualization of instructional proposals.
Inclusion is a movement that arises from the socio-historical-cultural perception of exclusion and requires strategies to mitigate or eliminate the various barriers that restrict or prevent social participation. The inclusion movement, which gained strength from the end of the 20th century, applies to different social spheres, including literature as a human experience. In this sense, this art form should be addressed in schools from childhood, ensuring both accessibility and the representation of the diversity of cultures, bodies, and subjectivities. This article aims to discuss literary literacy from an inclusive approach, reflecting on its contribution to the development of reading and citizenship. Thus, it uses a bibliographic research methodology, starting from a systematic review of the terms inclusive literature, inclusive children's literature, inclusive young adult literature and accessible literature in the main academic research databases, and then expanded, in an exploratory manner, to related topics. The study focused on understanding what characterizes inclusive literature, considering heterogeneity in theme and/or authorship, as well as access to and accessibility of the book as a cultural object. Additionally, it aimed, through the example of an accessible teaching sequence based on Indigenous literature, to show the applicability of this approach, highlighting the school's role in shaping readers who are more aware and respectful of human diversity. Consequently, the work contributes by showing that inclusive literature, from the perspective of literary literacy, enriches the reading experience by expanding student development through both the aesthetic enjoyment of the work and the formation of civic awareness.
Traditional statistical models face the challenges of insufficient modeling capabilities and difficulty in interpreting complex, nonlinear, and high-dimensional data. Therefore, this paper combines fuzzy logic and deep learning methods to construct a framework model for identifying key factors for high-quality employment for college students. The model in this paper uses multi-channel encoding technology. We use the attention mechanism to fuse the features obtained from multi-channel encoding and input the self-organizing fuzzy inference structure for regression and classification analysis. The system can transform numerical prediction results into a semantic rule-driven decision-making process, which can significantly improve the model’s modeling capabilities and interpretability for uncertainty. Our experiments were conducted on 5,623 graduates. Experimental results on the data show that our model achieved an average mean square error of 0.831, a coefficient of determination of 0.892, and a classification accuracy of 0.865, which are significantly higher than traditional statistical and machine learning models. The corresponding experiments demonstrate the key role of cross-modal fusion and fuzzy reasoning modules in improving the results. Feature importance analysis shows that factors such as internship duration, GPA, and research participation have a key impact on high-quality employment, which is consistent with expert consensus.
Background: Online learning outcomes may relate to students? preparedness and participation, but intention to continue is distinct from verified institutional retention. This study examined the associations among online learning readiness, student engagement, and retention intention among higher-education students in Kuwait. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional questionnaire was administered online from 1-20 September 2026. The supplied dataset included 100 complete responses recruited through personal contacts and community WhatsApp groups. Readiness (20 items), engagement (24 items), and a broad continuation-related index (19 items) were scored as mean Likert responses. Analyses included descriptive statistics, internal consistency, Pearson and Spearman correlations, and a joint regression with HC3 robust coefficient inference. Results: Mean readiness was 4.398 (SD 0.716), engagement 4.353 (SD 0.727), and the broad continuation-related score 4.258 (SD 0.762), on a five-point scale. Pairwise associations were positive: readiness-engagement, r = .890; readiness-retention intention, r = .792; and engagement-retention intention, r = .832 (all p < .001). In the joint model, engagement remained positively associated with the outcome (B = 0.643, HC3 95% CI 0.382-0.903, p < .001), while the readiness coefficient was uncertain (B = 0.262, 95% CI -0.025-0.549, p = .073). The model explained 70.6% of sample variance; this is not evidence of out-of-sample prediction. A narrower, exploratory direct-intention item subset showed a similar pattern. Conclusion: In this convenience sample, higher self-reported readiness and engagement co-occurred with stronger continuation intentions, with engagement showing the more stable adjusted association. Cross-sectional self-report data, unvalidated item sets, influential observations, and nonprobability recruitment preclude causal or population-wide conclusions. No subsequent enrollment was measured; formal ethics approval was not obtained and requires transparent institutional guidance before publication.
Classroom participation in beginner Arabic courses is often interpreted through the number of students who answer questions aloud. This conceptual and practice-oriented paper argues that such a measure obscures differences between willingness to communicate, linguistic capacity, and the opportunity to participate. Drawing on research in Arabic learning, willingness to communicate, classroom discourse, interaction, and corrective feedback, it develops a barrier–indicator–response matrix for teacher decision-making. Six barriers are paired with provisional observable indicators, proportionate instructional responses, and limits on the evidence supporting each response. Three hypothetical Arabic classroom applications illustrate how the matrix can guide preparation, participation opportunities, and feedback without turning visible participation into a proxy for learning. The matrix is a heuristic rather than a validated diagnostic or intervention instrument. Future observational and intervention studies are needed to test its utility in beginner Arabic settings.
Since independence in 1963, Kenya has pursued educational reforms intended to align schooling and training with its social, economic, and political development priorities. This study traces the evolution of these reforms from the Ominde Commission of 1964 to the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in 2017 and examines their relationship with national development. A qualitative document review was employed to analyze reform trajectories across primary, secondary, technical and vocational, university, and examination systems. The review also considered policies concerning free primary and secondary education, bursary and scholarship schemes, and gender affirmative action, focusing on their implications for access, equity, and educational quality. The findings indicate that successive reforms have consistently positioned education as a means of promoting national unity, preparing the workforce, and strengthening civic participation. These priorities reflect the role assigned to education in advancing social cohesion, economic productivity, and political development. However, the translation of policy commitments into practice has remained constrained by inadequate funding, limitations in teacher capacity, and insufficient infrastructure. These implementation gaps restrict the extent to which educational reforms can achieve their intended developmental outcomes. The analysis emphasizes the importance of examining policy design alongside the resources and institutional capacity required for implementation. Sustained investment in teacher preparation and professional development, educational infrastructure, and systematic monitoring is necessary to strengthen reform delivery. The study concludes that education can contribute more durably to national development when policy ambitions are supported by consistent investment and implementation capacity. Its historical and policy perspective provides a basis for policymakers and educational stakeholders to assess reform priorities and strengthen connections between educational change and Kenya’s development goals.
This survey aimed to examine the association between online social participation and attitudes toward aging among older adults within the Chinese socio‑cultural context. Stratified multi‑stage cluster sampling was adopted to obtain sample data. Multiple Linear Regression Model was employed to analyze the factors influencing older adults’ attitudes toward aging. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) was employed to estimate the Average Treatment Effect on the Treated (ATT) of online social participation on aging attitudes. (1) Among the 1,261 respondents, the mean score of attitude toward aging was 10.76 (SD = 5.55, possible range: 0‑20), with 45.0% reporting engagement in online social participation. (2) Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that online social participation, educational level, monthly income, marital status, chronic conditions, and self‑rated health were significant predictors of aging attitudes ( p < 0.01). (3) The ATT values estimated via kernel, radius and nearest neighbor methods were 1.6318, 1.5610 and 1.5549, respectively. (1) Older adults exhibit a relatively low overall level of online social participation, suggesting the necessity of further popularization and improvement. (2) Marital status, educational level, monthly income, self-rated health, and chronic conditions are significant influencing factors of aging attitudes among older adults. (3) Online social participation is significantly positively associated with older adults’ attitude toward aging.
Sports betting has expanded across sub-Saharan Africa, increasingly intersecting with young people’s aspirations, technological accessibility, and economic insecurity. Although awareness of gambling-related risks may influence young people’s decisions, recognising such risks does not necessarily lead to cessation of betting. This study explored how young bettors understood betting risks in Shibai Street, Buhongwa Ward, Mwanza, Tanzania. A qualitative cross-sectional study employing ethnographic methods was conducted between July and August 2025. Data were collected from 18 purposively selected active bettors aged 18-29 years through in-depth semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and informal conversations. Interviews were conducted in Kiswahili, audio-recorded, transcribed into English, and analysed thematically following Braun and Clarke’s approach. The findings were interpreted using Verstehen, strain, and rational choice perspectives. Participants identified financial loss, difficulty stopping, stress and mental distress, relationship conflict, theft, reduced attention to work or learning, reduced work-seeking, dishonesty, deepening poverty, and loss of personal possessions as important betting-related risks. However, awareness of these risks did not consistently result in withdrawal from betting. Some participants continued because betting provided hope, expectations of quick financial gains, peer influence, and a perceived opportunity to escape poverty. The study concludes that understanding betting risks among youth requires attention to the meanings attached to betting and the economic and social circumstances within which participation occurs. Risk education should therefore be complemented by livelihood opportunities, community support, counselling, and appropriate harm-prevention measures.
Teaching English as a foreign language faces several challenges related to student motivation, active participation, and the development of communicative skills, particularly speaking. In response to this situation, gamification has emerged as an innovative teaching strategy that incorporates game elements into educational contexts in order to promote meaningful learning experiences. The aim of this study is to analyze the potential of gamification for the development of English-speaking skills, considering its theoretical foundations, key components, and practical applications in the teaching and learning process of foreign languages. From a theoretical and descriptive perspective, the study examines contributions from various scholars who emphasize the value of elements such as points, badges, levels, challenges, and immediate feedback systems in fostering motivation, participation, and learners' self-confidence. Likewise, practical experiences involving role-playing games, gamified debates, digital platforms, and collaborative learning environments are discussed as effective means of encouraging the contextualized use of the language. The analysis reveals that gamification contributes to reducing communication anxiety, increasing student interaction, and strengthening linguistic and social skills that are essential for English language learning. It is concluded that this methodology represents an effective alternative for enriching foreign language instruction, provided that its implementation is guided by clearly defined pedagogical objectives and adapted to the characteristics of the educational context in which it is applied.
This community service activity reports the implementation of a token economy technique to support attention during English-language learning at LKP Endemic, Warungjayeng, Nganjuk. The activity used a classroom-action-oriented plan–act–observe–reflect framework involving 12 learners. Attention was operationalized through 20 observable indicators grouped into seven dimensions: attention orientation, sustained attention, task engagement, response to instruction, active participation, distraction control, and self-regulation. The intervention combined immediate token delivery, behavior-specific verbal praise, token recording, exchange opportunities, and gradual fading. Descriptive results showed a group mean of 43.92/80 at pre-intervention, 56.08/80 in Cycle I, and 67.75/80 in Cycle II. The absolute increase from baseline to Cycle II was 23.83 points, corresponding to a relative increase of approximately 54.26% from baseline. The largest descriptive improvements were observed in response to instruction, active participation, distraction control, and self-regulation. Cycle I reflection identified the need for more consistent timing of token delivery, more explicit behavior-specific praise, and reduced dependence on external rewards; these changes informed Cycle II through selective token delivery and gradual fading. Because the activity involved a small group without a comparison condition, the findings should be interpreted as descriptive evidence of local implementation rather than as a causal estimate of effectiveness. The findings provide a practical framework for integrating behavioral reinforcement with English-learning activities in a non-formal learning setting.
We examine whether a top-up school grant for Ethiopia's emerging regions, introduced under GEQIP-E in 2018/19, narrowed mathematics learning gaps. Difference-in-differences estimates using Grade 4 data from the RISE Ethiopia survey (2018/19–2021/22) show relative gains of 0.42–0.52 standard deviations, largest among rural and poorer children. Results hold with regional controls, gain scores, school-level models and school fixed effects, but shrink under region-specific trends. About half of each gain reflects emerging regions avoiding a post-2018 decline elsewhere, so the estimates are upper bounds for the top-up alone. School leadership, community participation and teacher knowledge appear to be key channels.
Despite the recognized importance of youth participation in agricultural production for food security, Cash crop production and rural development, its engagement among youth in Tanzania remains remarkably low. In Badugu Ward, Bariadi District, for instance, only about 30% of youth participate in agricultural production despite abundant family land. This study explored the influence of land inheritance systems on youth participation in agricultural production in Badugu Ward, Bariadi District in Simiyu Region, Tanzania. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study focuses on the lived experiences of thirty (30) youth participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, Focus Group Discussions and observation, analyzed thematically following Braun and Clarke's (2006) six-step framework. Findings reveal that decisions are heavily influenced by elders authority, clan norms and gendered inheritance practices, where the credibility of family elders and the rigidity of cultural norms significantly shape youth access to land. Notably, social pressures, particularly from elders and male family members, discourage youth, especially women, from claiming land. Recommendations emphasize enhancing community engagement through consistent communication, education initiatives, and leveraging peer testimonials to foster trust and mitigate uncertainty about land transfer. Overall, the study highlights the complexity of socio-cultural dynamics in agricultural land access and suggests that effective strategies for promoting youth participation must address these collective influences.
This reflective essay examines the establishment of the Research Guild in King’s Digital, a department at King’s College London specialising in online and blended postgraduate education. The Research Guild is an internally created, mentor-supported community of practice designed to help professional services staff engage more confidently in educational research and scholarship. Using an autoethnographic approach and a systems thinking lens, I explore how the Guild emerged in response to a recurring pattern: teams highly effective at delivery but lacking time, infrastructure and perceived legitimacy to undertake inquiry. The essay describes how mentoring through the ALT ELESIG Scholar Scheme, a training needs analysis survey and three structured development pathways (literature review, conference participation and research projects) combined to make evidence-seeking feel more normal, safe and worthwhile. I highlight key outcomes and persistent tensions around time, equity and sustainability, arguing that staff development is most transformative when treated as a deliberately designed ecosystem of scaffolds, feedback loops and shared identity rather than a series of isolated activities.
Free play is one of the few contexts in which children independently organise their social lives, providing a particularly relevant setting for examining how peer culture is produced and negotiated in everyday interaction. This study explored how preschool children shape peer culture through rules, social relationships, inclusion and exclusion, and shared meaning-making. A focused ethnography was conducted with 21 children aged 3 years 9 months to 7 years 2 months in an established mixed-age preschool group in Croatia. The observational period lasted one month and included 17 observation days. Data collected through observation, field notes, and four focus groups were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. The findings indicate that children independently initiate and sustain play, jointly negotiate rules and roles, and create shared symbolic meanings. Group belonging is continually reaffirmed through participation, while temporary forms of exclusion were observed in different interactional contexts, including responses to disruption and restrictions on participation. Educator mediation occurred in some situations in which children did not resolve disagreements independently. The findings position children as competent social actors whose peer culture constitutes a meaningful form of social life and provide contextual insight into how these processes unfold within an established mixed-age preschool group.
This study explores examines the role of expert educators in leading cross-school professional learning networks (PLNs) that are intentionally embedded within a professional development program designed to which cultivate future-ready and inclusive school leaders in Hong Kong. Drawing on a qualitative, open-ended questionnaire-based report from 26 expert educators, including 21 expert principals (EP) and 5 senior expert principals (SEP), the research examines their roles and the challenges they face in fostering cross-school collaboration. The study identified five interrelated leadership practices employed by the EPs and SEPs, including (1) fostering intense collaboration; (2) facilitating reflection; (3) developing a shared sense of purpose; (4) supporting cross-boundary learning; and (5) embodying reciprocal learning. The study contributes to the growing literature on leadership development grounded in PLNs. The findings argue the significance of experts and their independent leadership strategies to establish cross-school PLNs, pointing out that trust and embodying reciprocal learning reinforce their sustained engagement in cross-school PLNs. This study prompts further exploration of how leadership can establish and sustain cross-school PLNs for leadership development. The findings inform policymakers and educational leaders about how to develop meaningful learning across schools. Recommendations are offered to educational policymakers and school management bodies to prioritize the strengthening of professional networks for leadership development through active participation and expert guidance in the field.
Teachers’ participation in professional development is often high, yet it does not always translate into classroom innovation, a persistent transfer-of-learning gap. This study explores how principals’ assertive communication was associated with teachers’ professional competence development in two junior high schools (one public, one private) in Brebes Regency, Indonesia. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was used: baseline teacher competence was descriptively mapped from the Ruang GTK platform and the Education Report (Rapor Pendidikan), followed by a qualitative phase with 22 purposively selected informants (principals, vice-principals, teachers, students, and parents). Data were gathered through surveys, interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles et al.’s interactive model with triangulation. Baseline data showed high training participation (score 4) but stagnant instructional innovation and classroom management (scores 2–3). Four interactional dimensions of assertive communication emerged: directive transparency, dialogic respect, non-blaming corrective feedback, and facilitative advocacy. These were associated with reduced teacher defensiveness and greater openness to interactive and digital teaching, and varied with institutional readiness. The study frames assertive leadership as a dynamic system of instructional communication rather than a fixed trait. Given its two-school, non-causal design, the findings are context-specific; they suggest that sustaining competence requires structured post-training clinical supervision and a constructive feedback culture.
This study aims to explain the implementation of the hidden curriculum through school habituation in shaping students' disciplined character at MTs Al-Quraniyah Manna, South Bengkulu Regency. The hidden curriculum refers to values instilled in students through school culture, teacher role modeling, rules, and daily habits that are not included in the formal curriculum. This study employed a qualitative approach classified as descriptive research. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data collection, condensation, display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that the hidden curriculum is implemented through two primary habituation activities: the TAKRIR program (daily Qur'anic muroja'ah before classes) and congregational Dhuhr prayer conducted regularly from Monday to Thursday at the Maria Affan Mosque. Three main mechanisms contribute to the formation of students' disciplined character: behavioral habituation through consistent daily routines, teacher role modeling through active participation and direct guidance, and the establishment of a strong religious school culture. The results indicate improvements in students' punctuality, compliance with school rules, orderliness during worship, and intrinsic awareness to fulfill obligations without coercion. Therefore, the hidden curriculum through sustained religious habituation serves as an effective strategy for building students' disciplined character at MTs Al-Quraniyah Manna.
Introduction In Japan, noriuchi refers to a collaborative gambling practice in which multiple players pool money used for betting and later split the final net profit or loss. This cross-sectional online study aimed (a) to estimate the prevalence of noriuchi among adult Japanese gamblers and (b) to examine how the frequency of noriuchi participation relates to gambling involvement and problem gambling severity. Methods In February 2022, an online survey was administered via Rakuten Insight, Inc. to adults aged 20 years or older. Participants were eligible if they reported gambling at least monthly in at least one of nine gambling activities during the past 12 months ( N = 2,000). Noriuchi participation frequency was assessed on a four-point scale (never, less than monthly, monthly or more, weekly or more). Outcomes included monthly gambling days, monthly gambling expenditure, and problem gambling severity measured with the Japanese version of the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI). Results Overall, 498 participants (24.9%) reported noriuchi experience in the past 12 months; among them, 198 (39.76%) met the PGSI criterion for problem gambling. After adjustment for demographic covariates, noriuchi participation was associated with greater problem gambling severity across several gambling activities. Associations with monthly gambling days and expenditure were more limited and varied across gambling activities, with significant increases primarily observed among those engaging in noriuchi weekly for certain gambling activities. Discussion These findings suggest that noriuchi is associated with problem gambling severity, whereas its associations with gambling frequency and individual gambling expenditure are less consistent.
Bullying remains a concern at SDN Sindangsono because teasing and name-calling occur in student interactions, while students’ understanding of the forms of bullying is still limited. This community service activity aimed to describe bullying prevention education through a participatory approach for third- and fourth-grade students. The activity involved 64 students, consisting of 34 third-grade and 30 fourth-grade students, and included an initial question-and-answer session, presentation of learning materials, an educational video, discussion, sharing session, written reflection, oral evaluation, and a joint commitment. Evaluation was conducted through the initial question-and-answer session and oral evaluation. At the beginning of the activity, students’ responses were more focused on physical bullying. Fifteen students (23.4%) voluntarily stated that they had engaged in actions they understood as bullying, while all participants stated that they had experienced feeling bullied, mainly through teasing and name-calling. After the activity, students’ responses began to include verbal, social, and social media-related forms of bullying, accompanied by reflective responses regarding peer interactions. All participants also took part in a joint commitment to prevent bullying. The activity indicated a broader understanding of bullying, the emergence of reflection, and student participation in bullying prevention.
Abstract Importance Bullying is increasingly understood as a social process in which peers influence whether it persists. Anti-bullying policies and programs often encourage bystanders to intervene directly, yet direct defending can carry social costs for defenders, and evidence that it reduces later victimization is mixed. Some interventions already target the peer rewards that sustain bullying, but participant-role classifications tend to absorb deliberate non-reinforcement into outsider behavior or passive bystanding. Objective This paper argues that withdrawing social reinforcement, the deliberate withholding of social rewards that peers confer on bullying, such as attention, approval, amplification, or audience participation, should be conceptualized as a distinct bystander response. Methods This conceptual analysis draws on the social-ecological framework, participant role theory, social cognitive theory, and evidence that the outsider category is internally heterogeneous. Results Withdrawing social reinforcement is functionally positive when it reflects a refusal to endorse bullying and reduces the social rewards available to the student who bullies. It differs from uninvolved passivity in intent and social function, and from indirect defending in primary target, because these responses act on different points in the social process of bullying. When enacted collectively, it may also signal reduced peer endorsement of bullying and shift perceived peer norms. Conclusions Helpful bystander responding should not be defined only by direct intervention. Bystanders can also target the social rewards that sustain bullying, and responses grouped as passive bystanding differ in whether they sustain or withhold those rewards. Future research should test whether withdrawing social reinforcement can be reliably distinguished from uninvolved passivity and indirect defending, and whether it reduces reinforcement for students who bully. Implications for Practice Withdrawing social reinforcement requires less public confrontation than direct defending, offering students who cannot or will not confront the student who bullies another way to respond. Schools can teach this method as an explicit option alongside upstanding.
Nature-based extreme sports are often framed through sensation seeking, thrill, and voluntary exposure to risk, yet this framing can obscure the meanings participants attach to prolonged engagement with demanding natural environments. This study explored how experienced South African participants interpreted the relationship between nature-based extreme sport participation and eco-sensitivity. In this article, eco-sensitivity refers to participants' reported environmental attention, affective connection with nature, recognition of ecological dependence, concern about degradation, and efforts to reduce personal impact. A qualitative design using interpretative phenomenological analysis was applied to semi-structured interviews conducted between 29 April and 4 July 2019 with 10 experienced participants, five men and five women, who represented 11 nature-based extreme sport activities and reported two to 22 years of experience. Four interconnected themes were identified: risk as a managed component of participation; connection rather than conquest; sensory sensitivity and experiences consistent with mindfulness and flow; and eco-sensitivity and self-reported pro-environmental orientation. Participants described risk as something to calculate and manage through competence, preparation, and situational judgement. They also described respect for natural forces, heightened bodily and environmental attention, and a stronger sense of ecological dependence. Reported pro-environmental practices were self-reported and were not independently observed. The findings provide an interpretive account of how participants made sense of environmental meanings within prolonged outdoor sport involvement. They do not establish a causal developmental mechanism. The results suggest propositions for athlete education, outdoor recreation management, environmental learning, and future longitudinal research. Keywords: eco-sensitivity; extreme sport; interpretative phenomenological analysis; nature connectedness; pro-environmental behaviour; risk management.
The integration of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Science represents a crucial approach to developing students' scientific competence while simultaneously strengthening Islamic values and character. This study aims to identify the general and specific characteristics of integrated PAI and Science instruction, serving as an empirical foundation for developing an integrated learning model at MI Muhammadiyah Sains Qur'an (MIM SAINSQU) Balong. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through interviews with the principal, curriculum coordinator, PAI teachers, and classroom or Science teachers; classroom observations; and an analysis of relevant school and instructional documents. The findings indicate that this integration is realized through Quran-oriented contextualization, scientific inquiry, environment-based learning, active student participation, teacher facilitation, and the development of cognitive and affective competencies. However, implementation varies depending on the learning topic, teacher readiness, and the availability of integrated learning resources and assessment frameworks. The study concludes that MIM SAINSQU Balong possesses a strong institutional and pedagogical foundation for integrated PAI and Science instruction but requires a systematic model that coherently links scientific concepts, Quranic values, learning activities, resources, the roles of teachers and students, and assessment.
The increasing use of electrical and electronic devices in students’ daily lives highlights the importance of introducing electrical safety awareness at the high school level. Improper use of electrical installations, such as overloading electrical outlets and using inappropriate components, may increase the risk of short circuits, electric shocks, and fires. Therefore, practical education on safe electrical installation is important to equip students with basic electrical safety knowledge and awareness. The electrical workshop aimed to introduce basic science and technology concepts through a practical workshop on electrical installation safety for students of SMA Yos Sudarso Cilacap. The workshop consisted of theoretical explanations, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and safety simulations covering basic electrical installation principles, component selection, safe assembly, and testing. A total of 35 students participated in the activity. Among the 35 students who completed the questionnaire, 60% reported that they had not previously been familiar with the material, while 91.4% perceived the workshop as beneficial. Observations during the practical session indicated active student participation in assembling simple electrical circuits and applying safety procedures. The activity provided students with practical knowledge and strengthened their awareness of safe electrical installation practices.
ABSTRACT Students’ active participation in expressing opinions is an important indicator of engagement in student-centered learning. Initial observations in Class III A at SD Negeri Kendangsari III/278 Surabaya revealed that only 8 out of 26 students (30.77%) actively participated in discussions, while the others tended to remain passive. This study aimed to improve students’ active participation in expressing opinions during Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) lessons on the topic “Stories from the Hometown” through the Think Pair Share (TPS) model integrated with a deep learning approach. The study employed a classroom action research design conducted over two cycles, each consisting of three meetings, from July to August 2026. The participants were 26 students. Data were collected through observation and documentation and analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The individual achievement criterion was set at a minimum average participation score of 3.00, while the criterion for class-wide success required at least 80% participation. The results showed that the average percentage of active participation increased from 37.18% in the pre-cycle stage to 60.26% in Cycle I and 87.18% in Cycle II. The final achievement exceeded the predetermined success criterion. These findings indicate that integrating TPS with a deep learning approach may support students’ confidence in expressing ideas and enhance their participation in IPAS discussions. Abstract Educational innovation requires strategies that promote participation, social interaction, and the collective construction of learning. The objective was to analyze the perceptions of educational stakeholders regarding intergenerational play-based strategies as a pedagogical resource related to cognitive and socioemotional dimensions. The theoretical framework integrated play-based learning, intergenerational learning, and socioemotional development. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 502 participants from the educational community. A structured survey was administered, and frequencies, percentages, and associations among categorical variables were analyzed. 96.0% considered intergenerational participation to be important or very important; 89.2% felt comfortable or very comfortable interacting with people of other ages; 93.2% rated their ability to work in teams favorably; and 88.0% rated their memory and concentration skills as good or excellent. A higher frequency of recreational activities was associated with greater cognitive stimulation (76.2% vs. 38.0%; χ²=74.63; p<0.001; V=0.386), and frequent stimulation was linked to a favorable perception of memory and concentration (94.0% vs. 79.4%; χ²=24.35; p<0.001; V=0.220). It is concluded that there is a favorable predisposition toward intergenerational activities, although the cross-sectional design does not allow for the establishment of causality.
Family-school engagement is key to holistic development and educational equity in early childhood. This study proposes and empirically evaluates a hierarchical model of engagement, composed of five dimensions: communication-participation, trust-inclusion, learning support, institutional resources, and digital mediation. The objective was to analyze the relationships between these dimensions from a dual perspective (families and teachers) in early childhood education contexts. Participants included 299 teachers and 308 family members from urban early childhood institutions, who completed a validated Likert-type questionnaire. A cross-sectional quantitative design was applied, employing descriptive analyses, internal consistency estimation (Cronbach's alpha), interdimensional correlations, and hierarchical modeling. The findings revealed: (a) high internal consistency across all dimensions (α ≥ .90), (b) strong correlations between dimensions within each group, (c) a more cohesive perceptual pattern in families, and (d) a greater weight of relational dimensions in the hierarchical model. This study provides empirical evidence and a robust theoretical framework for evaluating engagement in an integrated manner. Its distinctive value lies in offering a useful tool for institutional assessments, pedagogical decisions, and public policies aimed at improving communication, cultural inclusion, and digital equity in early childhood education settings
This qualitative descriptive study examined the perspectives of teachers with direct experience implementing the push-in model in general education classrooms in selected schools in Nevada, California, Arizona, and New Mexico, United States. It explored perceived educational value, implementation challenges, collaborative practices, professional roles, and opportunities for growth, and used the findings to formulate the Collaborative Push-In Enhancement Program (C-PEP). Participants were purposively selected from teachers experienced in push-in delivery or collaboration; the methodology described 11 co-participants, although another part of the dissertation reports a different sample count. Semi-structured interview accounts were examined using the six-phase thematic-analysis approach described in the dissertation. Five overarching themes were developed: push-in as inclusive and collaborative support for diverse learners; navigation of instructional, structural, and relational challenges; collaboration as the foundation of effective implementation; evolving instructional roles and complementary push-in/pull-out functions; and professional growth with holistic student development. Participants described greater classroom participation, confidence, access to grade-level teaching, and belonging, while emphasizing constrained planning time, scheduling, resources, and ambiguous teacher roles. The proposed C-PEP integrates differentiated instruction, problem-solving, co-planning, role clarification, mentoring, learner monitoring, and sustainability measures. Findings concern teachers’ reported experiences rather than independently measured student outcomes. The study highlights how inclusive practice depends on both responsive instruction and organizational support.
Although professional collaboration among teachers plays a critical role in enhancing school effectiveness and instructional quality, empirical studies that jointly examine the organizational and individual determinants of this collaboration remain limited. This study aimed to identify variables that significantly predict the likelihood of elementary school teachers engaging in professional collaboration. The study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational survey design. The sample consisted of 310 teachers working in elementary schools in the city center of Siirt, selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using the Servant Leadership Scale and the Professional Collaboration subscale. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results showed that school level, participation in professional activities, professional seniority, and principals’ servant leadership behaviors significantly predicted teachers’ likelihood of engaging in professional collaboration. In contrast, gender, marital status, educational status, length of time working with the school principal, and length of service at the school were not significant predictors. Overall, the findings highlight the role of servant leadership.
Low learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and the prevalent use of conventional instructional models pose challenges in eighth-grade instruction at MTsN 2 Kota Pariaman. However, research specifically examining the effect of the probing–prompting model on PAI learning outcomes in this context remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the probing–prompting instructional model on eighth-grade students’ PAI learning outcomes at MTsN 2 Kota Pariaman. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample comprised 64 students selected through purposive sampling, including 32 students from class VIII.2 as the experimental group and 32 students from class VIII.3 as the control group. Data were collected through achievement tests administered as a pretest and a posttest and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity of variance tests, and an independent-samples t test with IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a mean posttest score of 78.59, compared with 69.84 for the control group. The t test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < .001). These findings provide empirical evidence of higher PAI learning outcomes among students taught using the probing–prompting model. In practical terms, the findings support the use of this model as an alternative approach to PAI instruction that promotes student engagement through targeted questioning. Future research should involve larger samples, cover a broader range of instructional content, and examine students’ active participation, motivation, and critical thinking skills.
Oral communication skills are an important aspect of Akidah Akhlak instruction. However, teacher-centered instruction may limit students’ opportunities to ask questions, answer, and express opinions. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Learning Cell cooperative learning model on students’ oral communication skills in Akidah Akhlak at MTI Tarusan Kamang. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample comprised 40 ninth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups, with 20 students in each group. Data were collected through an oral communication skills questionnaire and documentation and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s test for homogeneity of variance, and an independent-samples t test with SPSS version 26. The results showed that the experimental group’s mean questionnaire score increased from 36.85 on the pretest to 41.85 on the posttest, while the control group’s mean score increased from 37.50 to 38.45. Hypothesis testing revealed a significant difference between the two groups (t = 2.948; p = .005). These findings support the potential of the Learning Cell model to improve students’ oral communication skills as measured by the questionnaire. In practical terms, the findings may inform teachers’ development of interactive Akidah Akhlak instruction that encourages student participation. Future research should involve broader samples and supplement questionnaire-based measurement with direct observation to provide a more comprehensive understanding of students’ oral communication skills.
This study assessed the employability skill readiness of Alternative Learning System (ALS) graduates in Liloan District, Cebu, during School Year 2025–2026 as a basis for developing a skill enhancement plan. Anchored on Human Capital Theory, Career Construction Theory, and Social Cognitive Career Theory, the study employed a quantitative correlational research design involving 70 ALS graduates. Data were collected using an adapted and modified questionnaire and analyzed through percentages, weighted means, standard deviations, Pearson product-moment correlation, and chi-square tests. Findings revealed high employability skill readiness in communication (M = 4.08), teamwork (M = 3.82), problem-solving (M = 3.81), self-management (M = 3.48), and technical or job-specific skills (M = 3.52). Employability readiness was significantly associated with age, parents’ educational attainment, parents’ occupation, and combined monthly family income, while gender showed no significant relationship. Furthermore, challenges encountered exhibited a significant negative relationship with employability readiness (r = −0.46), indicating that greater challenges were associated with lower readiness. Prominent challenges included limited access to training and upskilling opportunities, insufficient career preparation, inadequate hands-on experience, and limited confidence in applying acquired skills. The study recommends implementing the proposed Skill Enhancement Plan through accessible training, career guidance, workplace exposure, and strengthened stakeholder partnerships. The research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting inclusive skills development and employment readiness. Its potential contribution to educational, socioeconomic, and community sustainability lies in supporting lifelong learning, equitable employment preparation, and improved workforce participation among ALS graduates.
This article analyzes the infrastructure conditions of early childhood education institutions in Pernambuco through the application of the Pernambuco School Infrastructure Index (IEPE). The study combines quantitative analysis, based on factor analysis applied to data from the 2024 School Census, with exploratory qualitative evidence obtained through a questionnaire administered to school managers. The index is structured into three dimensions: essential physical and pedagogical infrastructure, support and accessibility, and basic operational infrastructure. The results indicate a predominance of intermediate and low levels of infrastructure, unevenly distributed across municipalities. Spatial analysis reveals differentiated patterns among daycare centers, preschools, and institutions offering both stages. The incorporation of qualitative evidence allows for the examination of the correspondence between administrative records and the actual conditions of space use, revealing discrepancies associated with the functional adequacy of infrastructure. The qualitative analysis, concentrated in the municipality of Recife due to low institutional participation, highlights the presence of adaptive strategies that enable the functioning of institutions but do not replace the need for planned infrastructure. The IEPE makes it possible to identify territorial variations and to inform public policy planning, provided it is interpreted in conjunction with other sources of information.
Purpose: Although leadership behaviors have been widely examined in relation to teacher outcomes, limited empirical research has explored how different leadership dimensions influence teachers’ morale within highly centralized educational systems such as Thailand’s primary education sector. Existing studies have often emphasized administrative control and procedural compliance, while comparatively less attention has been given to the role of relationship-oriented leadership behaviors in sustaining teachers’ morale within centralized administrative contexts. This study therefore examines the relationship between leadership behaviors within educational administration and teachers’ morale in Thai primary schools in central Thailand. Research design, data and methodology: This study employed a quantitative research design using a survey approach. Data were collected from 417 teachers and educational personnel working in primary schools across central Thailand through anonymous self-administered questionnaires. Leadership behaviors were categorized into task-oriented and relationship-oriented dimensions, while teachers’ morale was examined through Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships between leadership behaviors and teachers’ morale. Results: The findings revealed that both task-oriented and relationship-oriented leadership behaviors were positively associated with teachers’ morale. Relationship-oriented leadership behaviors, particularly motivation and participation, demonstrated stronger predictive influence on teachers’ morale than task-oriented dimensions such as planning and supervision. The regression model explained a substantial proportion of variance in teachers’ morale, indicating that interpersonal and participatory leadership practices play an important role within centralized educational environments. Conclusions: The study contributes empirical evidence to educational administration research by demonstrating that leadership effectiveness within centralized educational systems may involve not only administrative coordination and policy implementation but also relationship-oriented leadership practices that support teachers’ professional well-being. The findings further suggest that balancing organizational structure with human-centered leadership may help sustain teachers’ morale within Thai primary schools.
Student engagement and participation are essential for interactive elementary science and social studies (IPAS) learning. Limited involvement in questioning, expressing opinions, and teamwork may hinder meaningful learning. This study examined changes in engagement and participation during the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model at SDN Karawang Wetan III. Classroom action research involved 30 students across a pre-cycle and two intervention cycles. Classroom observations assessed seven engagement and seven participation indicators. Descriptive analysis showed improvements in both outcomes. Engagement increased in attention, enthusiasm, active involvement, peer interaction, persistence, and responsibility. Participation improved in questioning, answering, expressing opinions, discussion, cooperation, tournament involvement, and task completion. Reported percentages represent mean indicator-level observation scores rather than proportions of students meeting specific criteria. The findings suggest that structured teamwork, academic games, and individual accountability can provide practical opportunities for collaborative IPAS learning. Teachers should establish clear team roles and encourage individual contributions and questioning. Because the study involved one school and two cycles without a control group, the findings are context-specific and do not establish causality. Future research should examine multiple schools, longer implementation, sustained improvements, and relationships with IPAS achievement.
This study examined the relationship between pupils’ involvement in school-initiated absenteeism interventions and their academic achievement in Araling Panlipunan in Kadingilan II District, Bukidnon (SY 2019–2020). A descriptive-correlational design was employed involving 101 Grade 4 pupils identified as at risk of dropping out. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (CVI = 0.89; Cronbach’s α = 0.91) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product–moment correlation. Respondents were predominantly male (65.3%), aged 10–11 years (61.4%), from low-income households (85.1% earning ₱1,000–₱10,999), with parents largely self-employed (92.1%) and with elementary education (80.2%). Pupils reported high involvement in interventions: close-door counseling (M = 4.06), home visits (M = 3.80), CFSS (M = 3.74), and school feeding (M = 4.03), while dormitory involvement was low (M = 1.47). Academic achievement was generally low, with 63% fairly satisfactory (75–79) and 36% satisfactory (80–84). No significant differences were observed across most demographic variables (p > .05), except for dormitory involvement by gender and income (p < .05). Correlation analysis showed no significant relationship between intervention involvement and academic achievement (r = -0.186 to 0.149, p > .05). Findings indicate that while interventions enhance participation, they do not directly predict academic outcomes.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a participatory greening program in implementing a Green Campus and achieving SDG 12 among Biology students. A quantitative pre-experimental, one-group pre-test post-test design was employed with 80 undergraduate student selected by purposive sampling. Instruments included expert-validated knowledge tests, environmental questionnaires, and observation checklist (instrumental validity score of 100%). The four-month program involved activities such as planting, watering, weeding, fertilizing, and monitoring, specially designed to promote sustainable consumption and production practice-including organic fertilization efficient water usage, composting, and responsible resources management. Student participation averaged 84.15%. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated a significant increase in environmental knowledge (Z = -7.786, p < 0.001) with a high N-gain score of 0.83. Additionally, students’ environmental care attitude improved significantly, with the mean score rising from 51.37 to 91.81, categorized as “very positive”. These findings demonstrate that the greening program is empirically effective in improving ecological literacy and foresting proenvironmental attitude while reinforcing sustainable production principles. Therefore, this program can be adopted as a scalable and sustainable model for Green Campus initiative in higher education.
Traditional games enter school programmes as cultural resources, yet the processes connecting participation with collective values remain underexplored. This study examines how schools organize egrang, a traditional stilt-walking game, as cultural pedagogy in Scouting. An interpretive multiple-case design involved four public junior secondary schools in Semarang, Indonesia. Participants included student Scouts, Scout leaders, teachers, principals, and deputy principals. Participant observation, semi-structured interviews, focus-group discussions, and document analysis informed reflexive thematic analysis and cross-case synthesis. Four arrangements emerged: patrol challenges, exploration stations, cultural-preservation activities, and camping programmes. Shared objectives organized peer assistance, responsibility, solidarity, and leadership, while adult facilitation linked experience with cultural meaning. The comparison shows that cooperation depended on task organization and reflection rather than the traditional status of the game alone. An interpretive model connects cultural practice, patrol interaction, and reflection with the possible continued enactment and negotiation of values. Bourdieu’s habitus provides an analytical lens, but the findings do not demonstrate enduring dispositions. Schools should combine shared objectives, inclusive roles, and structured reflection; longitudinal research should examine whether these practices persist beyond Scouting.
Gender inequality in higher education remains a concern in rural Pakistan, where women’s education opportunities are shaped by social expectations concerning mobility, family responsibilities, and appropriate gender roles. This study examined how social stigmatization associated with staying at home and performing domestic roles is experienced by rural females and how public and self-stigma relate to their participation in higher education. A qualitative descriptive phenomenological design was employed. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews from 30 participants in rural Pakistan, including eight female students and nine female family members, and 13 male family and community members. Thematic analysis identified four interrelated themes: restricted mobility and chaperonage, conditional educational and career aspirations, internalized domestic identity, and protectionist concerns surrounding coeducation. The findings indicate that female education was generally valued, but support was often conditional on family approval, proximity to home, supervision, and conformity with socially accepted roles as daughters, wives, and mothers. Public stigma was reflected in shared expectations that restricted women’s mobility, educational location, and career choices. While self-stigma through self-censorship became apparent when some female students anticipated these judgments and adjusted their educational aspirations accordingly. These findings suggest that educational inequality in the setting examined is associated not only with material and institutional barriers but also with social judgments and their internalization. By applying a stigma perspective, the study provides a context-specific account of how public stigma, self-stigma, and self-censorship may interact with gendered expectations to narrow higher education opportunities for rural females.
Purpose: to explore the use of nature-based loose parts in supporting young children’s creativity through material exploration, independent choice, experimentation, and open-ended play at PAUD Kiddy Kid Center, Banda Aceh. Method: this study employed a qualitative descriptive approach at PAUD Kiddy Kid Center, Banda Aceh. Participants included four young children and their teacher, selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings: nature-based loose parts provided opportunities for children to express creativity through material exploration, independent selection, experimentation, material combination, imagination, and the development of diverse creations. All four observed children demonstrated the identified creative behaviors, although their participation pace varied. Teachers facilitated these processes through careful material preparation, safety supervision, and open-ended guidance. Despite challenges in material storage and hygiene, nature-based loose parts offered an accessible and flexible learning resource that supported creative engagement beyond the final product. Implications: PAUD educators can use accessible natural materials to create open-ended learning activities that encourage children’s creativity, independence, and exploration. Originality: lies in its process-oriented examination of how children explore, select, combine, and transform nature-based loose parts, emphasizing creative processes rather than finished products.
Introduction Climate change impacts are not gender-neutral, yet standard reporting relies on aggregate household indicators that obscure intra-household power dynamics and diverse individual vulnerabilities. This review assesses gender-differentiated climate resilience in rural farming households and evaluates the extent to which empirical evidence aligns with the gender-responsive, participatory and transparent mandates of the Paris Agreement. Methods Peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025 were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, AJOL and Google Scholar following PRISMA guidelines. A total of 117 eligible studies were screened and analysed thematically using a hybrid inductive–deductive approach in R. Methodological quality was appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT), and evidence coverage was characterised using GRADE-CERQual adequacy criteria. Policy alignment was mapped against Articles 2.1b, 7.1, 7.5, 11 and 13. Results Eight interrelated resilience domains were identified: livelihood, water, food, ecological, social, community, agricultural and economic. The review reveals a significant implementation gap between the Paris Agreement and ground-level reality. While Articles 7.5, 11 and 13 emphasise equity and participation, resilience is often achieved through paradoxes of depletion. We propose the Gendered Resilience Paradox Framework (GRPF), a novel theoretical model encompassing resilience as a distributive process rather than a neutral capacity. The framework identifies five interlocking mechanisms—workload-resilience, biological buffer, mobility-stability, restoration-marginalisation and hydrological time-poverty—through which household resilience is achieved via the systematic transfer of adaptation costs onto women’s bodies, time and agency. These paradoxes form a self-reinforcing Depletion Cycle, creating a resilience debt that may compound intergenerationally. A co-occurrence network (n = 117) shows that workload-resilience is the most frequently documented paradox (53.0%) and reveals that embodied paradoxes remain the least studied. Articles 2.1b and 7.1 show partial alignment; Articles 7.5, 11 and 13 show misalignment. Men also face climate-related hardships, including psychosocial stress, migration-induced vulnerabilities and systemic exclusion from aid. Discussion Resilience achieved through depletion is not resilience but a debt. Closing the implementation gap requires distributional indicators, time-releasing infrastructure, secure land tenure, and bundled interventions that address multiple paradoxes simultaneously. Systematic review registration Open Science Framework (OSF https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/WFR7Q ).
Introduction Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has emerged as a prominent framework for promoting inclusive education by addressing learner variability through flexible curriculum design, instruction, and assessment. Although interest in UDL has expanded globally, evidence regarding its implementation in primary mathematics education remains fragmented across diverse educational contexts. This systematic review synthesized empirical evidence on UDL implementation in primary mathematics education and developed an evidence-informed integrative framework to guide research and practice. Methods The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) guidelines. Searches conducted in Scopus and Web of Science identified 168 records, from which 14 studies met the inclusion criteria. Methodological quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT, Version 2018), and data were synthesized through thematic analysis. Results Three substantive themes emerged: instructional practices supporting UDL implementation, educational outcomes associated with UDL implementation, and contextual challenges and enabling factors. The findings revealed that effective UDL implementation was characterized by differentiated instruction, multiple means of representation, engagement, and action and expression, supported by accessible learning resources and digital technologies. These practices were associated with improved mathematics achievement, conceptual understanding, learner engagement, participation, and accessibility. However, successful implementation depended on sustained teacher professional development, institutional support, and equitable access to instructional resources. Discussion The review informed the development of an evidence-informed integrative framework that contextualizes UDL implementation within primary mathematics education. By linking enabling conditions, instructional practices, contextual influences, and learner outcomes, the framework extends existing UDL applications and offers a comprehensive model for advancing inclusive mathematics education. The findings underscore the importance of systemic support structures in ensuring effective and sustainable UDL implementation.
Professional speech culture is an essential component of teacher preparation, yet university courses in this area often emphasize normative linguistic knowledge without sufficiently integrating its application to authentic pedagogical communication. This study aimed to preliminarily adapt and evaluate the Teacher's Speech Culture course for pre-service Kazakh language teachers by strengthening the integration of normative-linguistic, communicative-pragmatic, discursive, and interactive components of professional speech competence. A single-group pre-test–post-test design was used. Initially, 180 students were recruited from two higher education institutions in southern Kazakhstan; 156 completed all stages and were included in the final analysis. The adapted course combined theoretical instruction with professionally oriented communicative situations, independent construction of professional utterances, interactive tasks, and reflective analysis of speech behaviour. Professional speech competence was assessed before and after the course using diagnostic and performance-based measures. The assessment demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.86). Data were examined using pre-test -post-test comparisons and path analysis. Overall professional speech competence increased from M = 7.84 (SD = 1.62) to M = 9.72 (SD = 1.48), t (155) = 11.46, p < 0.001, Cohen's d = 0.92. Significant improvements were also observed across the normative-linguistic, communicative-pragmatic, discursive, and interactive components. Path analysis indicated that the ability to analyse professional communicative situations had the strongest direct association with professional speech competence. Professional speech competence was also positively associated with speech self-control and flexibility of professional speech behaviour. The findings provide preliminary empirical support for a practice-oriented adaptation of the Teacher's Speech Culture course that connects knowledge of language norms with contextual analysis, independent speech production, and regulation of professional communication. Given the absence of a separate control group, the observed changes should be interpreted as pre-test–post-test differences associated with course participation rather than evidence of a causal intervention effect. Further controlled studies involving broader samples are required to evaluate the effectiveness and generalizability of the adapted course.
This article reflects upon the possibilities of remote teaching in the context of Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT), a response to the suspension of in-person activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Against this backdrop, the article examines resources, strategies, and pedagogical possibilities mediated by digital technologies experimented with by higher education institutions (HEIs) to ensure the continuity of academic activities. The reorganization of educational practices has driven the incorporation and reappraisal of digital technologies and environments, expanding possibilities for interaction, communication, access, and student monitoring. In this context, remote teaching highlighted not only the availability of technology but also the need to articulate it with methodological approaches consistent with educational objectives and students’ concrete conditions. It is concluded that emergency remote teaching has enhanced possibilities already present in the educational landscape while simultaneously revealing challenges regarding interaction, pedagogical mediation, and the participation of those involved in the educational process.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is increasingly recognized as an important component of elementary education, supporting students’ social-emotional development, engagement, well-being, and academic learning. However, the relationships among teacher social-emotional competence, learning climate, implementation quality, and student outcomes remain insufficiently integrated, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aims to synthesize literature on these relationships and examine their implications for SEL implementation in Indonesian elementary schools. A narrative literature review was conducted using an existing source corpus supplemented by relevant peer-reviewed literature. The synthesis examined major themes concerning teacher competence, classroom practices, learning climate, student outcomes, implementation conditions, and contextual adaptation. The findings suggest that teacher competence is associated with the quality of SEL enactment, while a supportive learning climate provides a context for student participation and social-emotional learning. Implementation quality and cultural context also shape how SEL is adapted and sustained. These relationships should not be interpreted as a universally established causal pathway. The review highlights the need for context-responsive teacher development, school-level support, and rigorous evaluation of SEL practices. Future empirical research in Indonesian elementary schools should investigate these relationships using longitudinal and mixed-methods approaches.
Introduction This study examines the public visibility and documentary traceability of university co-creation and collaborative governance for sustainability, based on documentary evidence available on the institutional portals of a set of universities in Ecuador. It explores how publicly available records represent forms of territorial articulation that extend beyond traditional university extension models. Methods The research adopts a documentary case study design supported by a multi-criteria matrix of co-creation indicators, mapping the 59 institutions included in the defined universe. Data were gathered exclusively from verifiable public sources on official university websites, institutional repositories, sustainability reports, strategic plans, and digital documentation spanning the 2024–2025 period, with a standardized corpus closure date of July 24, 2026. Results Evaluated institutions exhibit heterogeneous institutional records regarding their engagement and sustainability initiatives. Five documentary cases were selected for analysis based on information availability, alongside candidate cases retained for sensitivity analysis using “Not Assessable” (NA) coding. The publicly documented cases provide evidence of varying degrees of participation, multi-actor coordination, knowledge-system dialogue, governance arrangements, documented results, project continuity, and articulation beyond traditional third-mission activities. Discussion The findings are restricted to the scope of public documentary visibility and traceability. They should be interpreted as patterns of documentary traceability rather than as direct evidence of the full implementation or effectiveness of co-creation practices in the institutions studied.
Character education in Vocational High Schools (SMK) faces challenges in aligning technical skill development with student work ethics. This study aims to analyze the role of the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS) in supporting character education at SMK Puspita Bangsa, South Tangerang City. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, with data validity tested using source and technique triangulation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that OSIS plays a crucial role through three main aspects: (1) acting as a peer role model for discipline; (2) executing structured work programs encompassing religious, disciplinary, leadership, and social care dimensions; and (3) internalizing industrial work culture values. The main obstacles encountered include the dynamics of Field Work Practice (PKL) schedules and fluctuations in member participation, which are mitigated through flexible coordination and school management support. This study concludes that OSIS is effectively a strategic vehicle for student character development in vocational schools.
Education in Yenagoa LGA, Bayelsa State, faces persistent vulnerability to environmental, infrastructural and socio-economic shocks-annual floods, riverine isolation, poor school infrastructure, and weak community ownership-leading to disrupted learning continuity and low retention. The paper contends that resilient education extends beyond the confine of a school-centric model and requires a robust, strengthened learning ecosystem. Through an integrative review of literature and the theoretical synthesis of Bronfenbrenner, Ecological System Theory, Epstein, Overlapping Spheres of Influence, and Resilient Theory, conceptualized as Yenagoa Resilient Learning Ecosystem Model (YRLEM). The model places the learner at the Centre of six interconnected pillars/layers: Immediate Learning Environment/Resilient learner: (1) Community Engagement Pillar, (2) Technology and Digital Access Pillar, (3) Environment and Climate Resilience Pillars (4) Infrastructure and Schools Pillars (5) Governance and Policy Pillars (6) Livelihood and Skills Pillars. It argues that by intentionally engaging indigenous institutions-traditional rulers, CDCs, women and youth groups, and SBMCs-and fostering structured multi-stakeholder collaboration between government, oil and gas companies, tertiary institutions, NGOs, and faith based-organizations, educations can be transformed from a fragile service into a community owned resilient system. The paper contributes a context-specific framework for policymakers, the Bayelsa State Universal Basic Education Board, and development partners, and advances propositions for future empirical validation in the Niger delta context
This study explored the academic validation experiences of internal migrant college students and their implications for proposed psychosocial support activities. Specifically, it examined forms of academic validation, their influence on psychosocial well-being and academic persistence, and challenges in obtaining institutional support. Using a qualitative research design and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, the study examined interview accounts from eight internal migrant college students at Cavite State University–Main Campus during the academic year 2025–2026. Findings revealed that students experienced academic validation through faculty recognition, constructive feedback, peer encouragement, and academic achievements. Such experiences fostered motivation, confidence, belonging, and continued academic engagement. Conversely, limited recognition contributed to discouragement, self-doubt, and emotional distress. Participants also described homesickness, social isolation, language barriers, unfamiliar cultural practices, communication difficulties, and hesitation in seeking academic or emotional assistance. Despite these challenges, personal resilience, supportive classmates, and determination helped students adjust and persist in their studies. Based on the findings, the study proposed the BRIDGE Program, emphasizing peer mentoring, support circles, cultural integration, wellness activities, academic assistance, counseling, and opportunities for emotional expression. The study concluded that academic validation and accessible psychosocial support are important to the adjustment and educational persistence of internal migrant students. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-Being; Goal 4, Quality Education; and Goal 10, Reduced Inequalities. Its potential sustainability contribution lies in guiding inclusive institutional support practices that strengthen student welfare, social belonging, and equitable participation in higher education. These practices may also encourage more responsive and supportive campus communities.
Teacher development is essential for improving instructional quality and supporting sustainable school improvement. This study examined teacher development needs across educational stages in selected schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by focusing on three key domains: classroom practices, family engagement, and school support. Using a quantitative descriptive-comparative research design, data were collected through a structured survey administered to teachers representing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Primary, and Secondary levels. Descriptive statistics, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and rank-order analysis were employed to determine the levels of teacher development indicators, examine differences across educational stages, and identify priority areas for professional development. The findings revealed high levels of teacher development across all three domains, with classroom practices receiving the highest ratings, followed by family engagement and school support. No statistically significant differences were found in classroom practices, family engagement, or school support across educational stages, indicating that teachers shared similar professional experiences regardless of teaching level. However, item-level analysis identified important developmental priorities, including strengthening student motivation, enhancing family-school partnerships, improving student well-being monitoring, and expanding opportunities for teacher participation in school decision-making. Based on these findings, the Teacher Development Enhancement Framework (TDEF) was developed to provide stage-specific interventions for EYFS, Primary, and Secondary teachers. The framework offers school leaders and policymakers an evidence-based guide for designing targeted professional development initiatives that strengthen instructional practice, organizational support, and collaborative partnerships, ultimately contributing to sustainable teacher growth and improved educational quality in UAE schools.
This research analyzes the implementation of a gamification strategy as a methodological framework for delivering curricular content in a sixth-grade primary education class over the course of a full academic year. The study aimed to understand how the integration of game-based elements fosters motivation, participation, collaborative work, and learning processes within an inclusive environment. The research employed a qualitative approach through a case study involving twenty-two students, including one student with a developmental language disorder, one with dyslexia, and one with autism spectrum disorder (level 2). Data were collected through participant observation, checklists, rubrics, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires administered to students and families, and an analysis of the work produced during learning projects. The strategy involved organizing content from four formative domains into thematic "worlds" and "islands," while incorporating avatars, badges, and an experience point (XP) system that recognized both individual and collective effort and progress. The findings indicate a significant increase in active student participation, improved attendance, greater peer collaboration, heightened engagement with school activities, and a positive perception among families regarding the students' learning and emotional well-being. It is concluded that gamification when grounded in the principles of neurodidactics, formative assessment, and educational inclusion serves as a methodological strategy capable of fostering learning environments that are motivating, equitable, and focused on the holistic development of students.
OBJECTIVE: To conduct a national environmental scan of child hearing health-related services and databases as part of the Australian National Child Hearing Health Outcomes Registry program, and to identify system-level barriers and enablers to developing a coordinated Learning Health System for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. METHODS: A cross-sectional national survey of organisations providing hearing health-related services or managing data for Australian deaf and hard-of-hearing children. The survey examined the scope and practices related to data collection, standardisation, interoperability, stewardship, and governance. RESULTS: Ninety-nine respondents from 92 organisations delivering 290 services participated. The scan identified a disjointed data landscape. Standardised data were limited, with inconsistent capture of key variables across organisations and 49.4% rating their data quality as acceptable or good. Interoperability was constrained by heterogenous data practices, including use of multiple databases (34.3%), limited external reporting (24.2%) and lack of accessible data dictionaries (71.9%). Stewardship and data governance arrangements were variable, with fewer than half of organisations reporting formal consent (47.6%), privacy statements (51.2%) or ethics oversight (38.1%). Despite these challenges, 56.5 and 54.8% of organisations expressed interest in data linkage and research participation, indicating readiness for coordinated system development. CONCLUSION: Despite Australia's substantial investment in newborn hearing screening and hearing health-related services, fragmented data systems limit Australia's ability to monitor outcomes, equity and system performance in child hearing health. However, strong stakeholder interest in data linkage provides important momentum. These findings inform policy and service planning, and support staged development of a national child deafness Learning Health System through the Australian National Child Hearing Health Outcomes Registry.
Aim: to analyze teachers’ educational communication in the teaching and learning processes of students in upper secondary education and the baccalaureate. Methodology: a qualitative study was carried out involving 230 students from a private educational institution in Riobamba, Ecuador, during the 2022–2023 academic year. Data were collected through observation and interviews, and subsequently organized into categories relating to interaction, participation, feedback and classroom dynamics. Results: Difficulties in communication between teachers and pupils were identified, as were few opportunities to ask questions and a predominance of activities focused on theoretical content. In contrast, group dynamics, educational games and other participatory activities were accompanied by closer interaction and greater opportunities for exchange. Conclusion: educational communication was closely related to student participation and to the way in which teaching and learning activities were carried out, although the results do not allow causal relationships to be established.
Whether breadth of leisure activity engagement (LAE) is associated with cognitive resilience (CR) in older Chinese adults, and whether this association differs by gender, remain unclear. Using five waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2011–2020), we estimated CR as the residual of global cognition after accounting for age, education, gender, residence, and chronic disease burden, and examined activity × gender interactions in generalized estimating equations ( n = 7130 observations from 3293 adults aged ≥60). Cognitive and social activity breadth were each independently associated with higher CR, but with contrasting domain patterns. Cognitive activities showed a linear dose-response with comparable associations in both genders (males β = 0.164, females β = 0.171, both p < 0.001; Activity × Gender interaction p = 0.435). Social activities followed a quadratic dose-response peaking at approximately three activity types. In gender-stratified models, the social-activity association was concentrated in males ( β = 0.164, p < 0.001) and was not significant among females ( β = 0.032, p = 0.323; activity × gender interaction β = −0.111, p = 0.020), despite higher social participation rates among women. Lagged analyses supported temporal precedence. These findings indicate that the resilience associations of LAE breadth in older Chinese adults are domain- and gender-dependent: cognitive activity breadth was positively associated with CR in both genders, whereas this association was concentrated in men for social activities. These findings warrant further investigation of whether the content, context, or measurement of social engagement contributes to the observed gender difference.
Justification: Reading comprehension difficulties among basic education students have driven the search for pedagogical strategies such as gamification; however, their effectiveness depends on the specific characteristics of the context in which they are implemented. Objective: Therefore, the aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature published between 2020 and 2025 on gamification strategies used to strengthen reading comprehension among basic education students in Ecuador and to analyze the reported results regarding their effectiveness. Methodology: The study was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The search was carried out in the Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, DOAJ, and Latindex databases. A total of 34 records were retrieved, of which 12 studies were selected for analysis. Results: Findings indicate that gamification strategies were mainly developed through digital resources and structured instructional sequences integrating challenges, feedback, rewards, points, levels, badges, narratives, progression systems, and collaborative activities. Regarding effectiveness, the studies reported improvements in literal, inferential, and critical reading comprehension, with greater progress in inferential and critical processes. In addition, increases were found in motivation, participation, engagement, and interest in reading. Conclusion: The findings support the favorable effects of gamification in strengthening reading comprehension among basic education students in Ecuador.
Purpose: to examine the effectiveness of numeracy-based think-pair-share (TPS) in improving grade V students’ learning motivation in IPAS compared with conventional instruction. Method: this study used a quasi-experimental design with 20 grade V students in experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pretest and posttest motivation questionnaires and analyzed using N-Gain. Findings: showed that numeracy-based TPS improved students’ learning motivation, with a mean increase of 21.39 points and an N-Gain of 0.68, compared with 10.12 points and an N-Gain of 0.32 in the control group. These findings suggest that numeracy-based TPS is a promising approach to enhancing motivation in elementary IPAS learning. Implications: this study highlights the potential of numeracy-based TPS as an innovative instructional strategy to enhance student motivation through active participation, peer collaboration, and meaningful numeracy activities in elementary IPAS learning. Originality: lies in integrating numeracy literacy with the think-pair-share (TPS) model to enhance students’ learning motivation in elementary IPAS, an approach that remains limited in previous research.
The increasing demand for digital competencies in the current labor market has intensified concerns regarding the employability of unemployed graduates, particularly in developing economies. This study examined the impact of a short online digital skills training program on the employability readiness of unemployed graduates in Cebu City, Philippines. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed to assess changes in participants' employability readiness following a structured, self-paced online training intervention. The program focused on productivity software, digital communication platforms, and online job-search strategies. Employability readiness was measured using a validated, researcher-developed questionnaire assessing digital literacy, job-application preparedness, digital communication skills, and job-search confidence. The instrument demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency, with an overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.88. Results indicated a statistically significant improvement in participants' employability readiness after completing the intervention (t = 9.87, p < 0.001). Improvements were observed across all measured dimensions, with the greatest increase found in job-search confidence. While the findings suggest that participation in the online training program was associated with improved employability readiness, the absence of a control group limits causal interpretation. Nevertheless, the study highlights the potential of short-duration online digital skills training as a practical and scalable strategy for supporting workforce preparedness among unemployed graduates in developing-country contexts. Future studies employing more rigorous experimental designs are recommended to validate these findings further.
Teacher–student relationships outside formal lessons are part of school social life and may provide opportunities to practice democratic values. This qualitative case study examined patterns of out-of-class interaction, their relationship to democratic values, and factors shaping them at SMK Lingga Kencana Depok. Fourteen informants participated: two vice principals, a Pancasila and Civic Education teacher, a religious education teacher, and ten eleventh-grade students. Data came from in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Findings show open communication, mutual respect, professional closeness, and opportunities for students to express opinions. Democratic values appeared through openness, respect for differences, participation, dialogue, and responsibility. Teachers’ personal approaches and the school environment supported interaction, while differences in student characteristics, limited time, and some students’ lack of confidence posed challenges. Unlike studies centered on formal lessons or structured programs, this case foregrounds everyday out-of-class interactions in vocational education. These interactions may provide a contextual space for practicing democratic values relevant to building democratic culture, but this case study does not establish a direct causal effect on its formation.
The rapid expansion of online learning in higher education has transformed the way students interact with course content, instructors, and peers, making student engagement a critical indicator of learning success. This study investigates the influence of online learning quality, lecturer support, and academic self-efficacy on student engagement in an online learning environment. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from university students through a structured questionnaire measuring the four key constructs. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis to examine the direct effects of each independent variable on student engagement. The results reveal that all three variables—online learning quality, lecturer support, and academic self-efficacy—have significant positive effects on student engagement. Among these, academic self-efficacy emerged as the strongest predictor, indicating that students’ confidence in their academic abilities plays a central role in shaping their level of participation and involvement. Online learning quality also significantly contributes to engagement, emphasizing the importance of well-designed, interactive, and accessible digital learning environments. Additionally, lecturer support was found to positively influence engagement, highlighting the role of instructor presence, feedback, and communication in fostering an engaging learning experience. These findings suggest that improving both structural and psychological aspects of online education can enhance student engagement. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on online learning by providing empirical evidence on key factors that influence engagement and offers practical implications for educators and institutions aiming to optimize online learning experiences.
This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Dance Art learning for class IX.1 at SMP Islam Terpadu Budi Mulia Padang, focusing on the suitability of planning, implementation, and evaluation with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was used, with the Dance Art teacher of class IX.1 as the primary data source. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, teaching module document analysis, and documentation, then processed through data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that: (1) lesson planning through the teaching module generally aligns with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, although the Creating element of the learning outcomes was not explicitly stated; (2) implementation followed a Project Based Learning (PjBL) model across three meetings, engaging students in observing, discussing, designing, and performing a group creative dance work, although the three-meeting time allocation was not yet sufficient for the ideal PjBL stages, and some male students showed limited confidence; and (3) evaluation was carried out through diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments, with 95% of students achieving mastery on the theoretical aspect but only 65% on the practical aspect. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Dance Art learning has generally been consistent with its guiding principles, while time allocation and equitable student participation remain aspects that require further attention.

Background and Objectives: Legal recognition of same-sex marriage is prohibited in most Southeast Asian countries. This has led a Philippine local government to pass the Right to Care ordinance, allowing LGBTQIA+ individuals to make medical decisions for their partners. In the development of local policy, community engagement is essential (Dada et al., 2023); however, there is limited understanding of how communication enables such engagement. Therefore, this study aims to answer how the Quezon City Local Government and MullenLowe TREYNA engaged the community in developing the Right to Care Card (RTCC) and how LGBTQIA+ couples and implementers describe their experiences and challenges in accessing and implementing the RTCC. Methodology: This paper utilizes a qualitative research design, specifically a case study. Considering that this study focuses on community engagement, it is also anchored in the sociocultural tradition of communication, thus, emphasizing the importance of understanding community dynamics in a social and cultural context (Craig, 1999). The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with stakeholders of the RTCC, selected through purposive sampling. For the first coding cycle, the researchers used Descriptive and Process Coding, while Pattern Coding was employed to determine the themes. Results: It can be inferred that MullenLowe TREYNA and the QC LGU substantially engaged the LGBTQIA+ community, including other sectors, in developing the RTCC, with the forms of Modified Spectrum of Public Participation as the basis. Through the validation provided by the implementers and end-users of the RTCC, stakeholders can understand the expectations and limitations of the policy, specifically regarding the protection of their respective interests. In effect, as evidenced by the LGBTQIA+ representative's eagerness to push the passage of the ordinance to protect the lives of their partners, this eagerness demonstrates their empowerment. It reflects their ability to express their gender identity and their same-sex relationship, which aligns with the final form of public participation. Discussions: The researchers propose that the first form of public participation, Inform, has become in the case of RTCC, less applicable in the current context of public participation, given how governments engage the public for policy development. They suggest that Inform may be replaced with Identify. The researchers also suggest the placement of Participatory Communication and Transformative Communication in the proposed framework, as it was also found that the proponents and adopters' responses focused on grassroots mobilization and RTCC adoption in other cities. Conclusions: The QC LGU and MullenLowe TREYNA have strengthened their image as an inclusive local government and agency, respectively, because they were able to consult various sectors and make it possible to implement the RTCC within the city. The implementation of the RTCC also showed that the LGBTQIA+ couples are empowered in securing the RTCC and protecting the lives of their partners. Empowerment should not be understood only in terms of access but should also be evaluated based on whether local government processes enable beneficiaries to realize the intended benefits of the policy. These findings recommend further studies on other cities that recently implemented the RTCC, as well as a quantitative study for further validation.
Background: Previous studies have investigated the levels of distress reported by children and adolescents while participating in trauma-focused research. However, the role of complex PTSD in responses to participation in trauma-focused research is unknown. The aim of the study was to investigate adolescents’ positive and negative reactions to trauma-focused research and their associations with lifetime trauma exposure, PTSD, and complex PTSD.Methods: The sample comprised 834 school-based adolescents (40.9% boys), aged 13–18 years (M = 16.17, SD = 1.34) from the general population. Lifetime trauma exposure was measured using the Child and Adolescent Trauma Screen (CATS); PTSD and complex PTSD were measured with the Child and Adolescent version of the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ-CA). Positive and negative responses to research were measured with the short version of the Reactions to Research Participation Questionnaire for Children (RRPQ-C).Results: Most adolescents reported neutral or positive reactions to participation: 73.4% did not feel upset or sad, 81.4% did not regret participating, 34.3% reported being glad about participating, and 61.0% felt good about helping. 6.6% reported feeling upset. Lifetime trauma exposure was reported by 74.5% of participants (M = 2.18, SD = 2.18); 6.8% met criteria for PTSD, and 13.1% for complex PTSD. Lifetime trauma exposure, PTSD, and complex PTSD were associated with feeling upset or sad, as well as being glad to participate. PTSD increased the odds of negative reactions to research 2.07 times, and complex PTSD 5.78 times. On the other hand, 42.2% of those with complex PTSD reported being glad they had participated. Conclusions: Adolescents generally responded positively to participating in the study. However, complex PTSD was associated with a higher likelihood of research-related distress, highlighting the need for tailored safety and risk protocols for adolescents with complex PTSD.

Arabic vocabulary learning for early childhood is an important effort to introduce a foreign language through enjoyable learning activities that are appropriate to children's developmental characteristics. However, conventional learning methods often make children less enthusiastic, resulting in limited Arabic vocabulary mastery. This study aims to describe the use of the Picture Magic Lamp learning media in improving the Arabic vocabulary of children aged 5-6 years at TK Adz-Dzakia Pangkalpinang. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The participants were children aged 5-6 years at TK Adz-Dzakia Pangkalpinang. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The picture magic lamp media was implemented by asking children to identify the displayed colors and mention their names in both Indonesian and Arabic. The findings revealed that the use of the picture magic lamp media increased children's learning interest, active participation, and ability to recognize and pronounce Arabic color vocabulary. Therefore, the Magic Lamp media can be used as an effective and engaging learning medium to improve Arabic vocabulary mastery among early childhood learners.
In an era of CRT bans and university neutrality, democracy demands active civic engagement among college students. Scholars have called for a deliberate approach to political learning in higher education, focusing on how campus environments shape it. However, our understanding of how campus environments influence the political engagement of students of color, particularly during this turbulent political moment, is limited. Therefore, this study examined how a culturally engaging campus environment affects the political learning and engagement of students of color at four Minority Serving or Emerging Institutions. Findings were organized by the servingness typology of producing and serving, as all campuses had high voting rates, a proxy for political engagement, but may not have had high cultural reflection. The themes point to the importance of faculty of color in role modeling how to engage in civil discourse about contentious topics, students’ motivation to become politically engaged through cultural familiarity, and how feelings of disregard by the administration led students at producing campuses to go off campus to learn and engage politically, whereas students at serving institutions engaged with their administration and as part of the student government.
Global Citizenship Education (GCE) faces a persistent challenge: preparing children to engage with an interconnected world without detaching them from the cultural knowledge, identities, and communities that shape their lives. Indigenous storytelling offers a culturally grounded means of connecting these local foundations with broader civic responsibilities, yet its underlying learning mechanisms and sensitivity to educational context remain insufficiently understood. This study investigated how Indigenous storytelling relates to global citizenship competencies and whether these relationships differ between urban and rural primary schools. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design involved 500 Grade 5–6 students from ten public primary schools (five urban and five rural). Quantitative relationships were examined using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), Measurement Invariance of Composite Models (MICOM), and Partial Least Squares Multi-Group Analysis (PLS-MGA). Semi-structured interviews and classroom observations with purposively selected students, teachers, and principals were subsequently analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis. Both strands were integrated using joint displays and meta-inference. All hypothesized structural relationships were significant ( p < 0.001), revealing interconnected pathways from cultural authenticity, narrative engagement, community participation, and reflective learning toward global awareness, cultural respect, social responsibility, civic participation, and sustainability awareness. Urban students showed stronger narrative engagement–reflective learning (β = 0.712 vs. 0.618, p = 0.036) and reflective learning–global awareness relationships (β = 0.514 vs. 0.432, p = 0.028). Qualitative evidence explained these differences: rural schools embedded storytelling in community participation and cultural immersion, whereas urban schools relied more on teacher facilitation, collaborative reflection, and technology-supported storytelling. Indigenous storytelling connects cultural rootedness with global responsibility through context-sensitive learning pathways. Rather than positioning local identity and global citizenship as competing educational aims, the findings demonstrate how culturally grounded pedagogy can support reflective, socially responsible, and sustainability-oriented citizenship while requiring different enactment strategies across urban and rural primary education.
The Gender Development Index (GDI) is an index of achieving basic human development capabilities to measure success in efforts to develop the quality of human life by considering gender inequality. Papua Province is the province with the lowest GDI score when compared to the 34 provinces in Indonesia. This condition shows that there is still a development gap between the male and female genders. For this reason, it is necessary to research the factors that are suspected to influence GDI in Papua Province. In this study, the pattern of GDI data and the factors that are thought to influence it do not form a specific pattern, so we used spline nonparametric regression. Based on this study, the best model is obtained by the optimal knot point based on the smallest Generalized Cross Validation (GCV) value, which are 3-knots and six significant variables, namely, Life Expectancy , Expected Years of Schooling , Female Income Contribution , Sex Ratio , Female Labor Force Participation Rate , High School Enrollment Rate. This model has an of 99.95%. The predictor variable used has an effect of 99.95%, and other variables influence the rest.
This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to examine the implementation of growth mindset-oriented differentiated learning to improve movement skills and active participation in forward roll and backward roll learning among Class VIII.2 students at SMP Negeri 23 Bandar Lampung. The study involved 32 students (15 boys and 17 girls) across pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II stages, following the Kemmis & McTaggart model (planning, acting, observing, and reflecting). Data were collected using movement skill rubrics, active participation observation sheets, growth mindset questionnaires, and reflective interviews. Initial assessment during the pre-cycle stage showed that classical mastery reached only 31.25% (10 students) with a class average of 64.50, and active participation was categorized as low (37.50%). Following the implementation of differentiated learning (content, process, and product differentiation) integrated with growth mindset principles in Cycle I, classical mastery increased to 59.38% (19 students) with a class average of 73.20, and active participation rose to 62.50%. In Cycle II, through refined dynamic grouping, incline mat variations, peer tutoring, and process-oriented feedback, classical mastery significantly reached 87.50% (28 students) with a class average of 84.10. Concurrently, active participation surged to 87.50% (very high category). These results demonstrate that growth mindset-oriented differentiated learning is highly effective in improving movement skills and active participation in gymnastics instruction.
This study examines the implementation of collaborative supervision and its contribution to student well-being at MI Al Mubarok Uman Agung, Central Lampung Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The participants included the principal, three classroom teachers, and three students selected purposively. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data credibility was established through source and technique triangulation and member checking, while data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that collaborative supervision was implemented through three interconnected stages: participatory planning, non-interventionist classroom observation, and dialogic reflection and follow-up. This approach reduced teachers' anxiety, encouraged openness during reflection, and supported changes in classroom practices. Its contribution to student well-being was most evident in the loving dimension through warmer teacher-student relationships and in the being dimension through greater student participation in learning. However, its contribution to the having and health dimensions remained limited because these aspects were closely related to school facilities and health-related policies. The study demonstrates that collaborative supervision can contribute to a school environment that supports student well-being, particularly by strengthening teachers' professional and interpersonal practices.

Although school-community partnerships are crucial, the formalistic nature of community participation and power imbalances among actors often hinder quality management in religious-based schools. This study aims to analyze and describe in depth the patterns of involvement and the dynamics of synergy in the tripartite partnership (madrasah, committee, and community) in the quality management of educational services at Nurul Jadid Senior High School. This descriptive qualitative research, designed as a case study, collects data through in-depth interviews with key informants, limited participatory observation, and document analysis, then analyses it using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The research results show that the tripartite partnership at Nurul Jadid Senior High School transforms administrative functions into humanistic relations, grounded in the pesantren's social capital, through open madrasah management, the committee's role as a substantive dialogic partner, and participatory supervision by the community and alums outside the school environment. This synergy has created a sustainable, community-based quality assurance model in which meeting national education standards aligns with religious culture and stakeholder satisfaction.
Independent assignments and classroom presentations require clear assessment criteria and actionable feedback. This study aimed to develop the SELSA evaluation model in the Elementary School Teacher Education program at Universitas Tribuana Kalabahi. Research and development comprised needs analysis, design, and development without effectiveness testing. Data were obtained from 72 fourth-semester students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling, a lecturer interview, and classroom observations. Descriptive quantitative and qualitative analyses informed the model. Perceived attainment reached 74.6% for assignments, 89.8% for presentations, 82.7% for motivation, and 88.7% for model needs. Qualitative findings identified unclear criteria, uneven participation, inconsistent feedback, and missing structured rubrics. The resulting model integrates orientation, authentic assignments, exploration, presentation, discussion, rubric-based assessment, feedback, and reflection with revision. Guidelines and assessment formats support its proposed use. SELSA connects learning evidence with improvement in teacher education; its practicality and effectiveness require subsequent testing
